Hiddenville XXVII
Summary: Phoebe meets a new Superhero in town and Mia runs into a familiar face.
Evie's Notes: Happy Saturday! I hope you all are having a wonderful week! As always, thank you so much your support of this story, it really and truly means the world to me ! I hope that you all enjoy the this new update .
Phoebe was walking on cloud nine ever since she got her hero cape for saving Max from Dark Mayhem. The Hero League had even officially given her her own town to protect, Hiddenville! The best part though was that she no longer had to hide her families' secret from her best friend Cherry. She was so glad that between Link, Cherry and her family, all the important people in her life knew the real her.
Unfortunately, crime fighting in Hiddenville was rather boring. She found herself bored waiting for the tablet given to her by the Hero League to ping with potential crimes. So far she had been stuck helping old people cross the road and saving animals from bushes.
What Phoebe wanted was a real crime to fight. A chance to make a name for herself within the Hero League. Glancing down at her beeping tablet, Phoebe grinned, it seemed she might just be getting that chance.
*A New Hero - A New Hero - A New Hero*
She was not getting that chance. Arriving at Hiddenville High School Mia spotted a boy dressed in black fighting a rainbow haired girl, both of them were wearing masks that blocked the top parts of their face, beside them lay a discarded box of trophies. Phoebe watched as the pair traded kicks and punches. The girl whipped out a laser and fired two quick shots hitting the boy and knocking off his hood, revealing a far too familiar swoosh of hair. The boy returned the laser blasts with jets of freeze breath.
"I should have known this was you" snapped Phoebe as she watched the girl judo flip her brother Max before kneeling beside him to slap on a pair of handcuffs which she had stored on the gold belt on her skirt.
Letting out a groan Max replied, "Of course it's me Thundergirl. I'm the only one who cares about Evil in this town"
"Facts," laughed the rainbow girl. "I've been beating you for the last couple weeks Dark Knight"
"Fuck off Barbie," sulked Max.
"You're just grumpy because you lost again" teased the girl, pulling him to his feet.
"I much prefer it when you are the one tied up" flirted Max.
Phoebe stood still shocked by what she was seeing and hearing.
The girl clearly blushed under her mask, but flirted back "But there is just something about having a powerful man at my mercy"
"Your name is Barbie?" asked Phoebe.
"Hah, no. I'm Madam Danger, that's just what this one calls me" replied the rainbow girl, throwing a dirty glare Max's way.
Max snickered, "Come on Barbie, it's a fitting name".
"Okay… whoever you are. I am Thundergirl the official Superhero of Hiddenville so I can take it from here" said Phoebe, officially weirded out by the conversation and scene she was witnessing… That was her brother!
"Great! Then I will leave this troublemaker to you. Glad to meet another protector of Hiddenville" grinned the girl.
The girl then leaned forward and whispered in Max's ear "Stay outta trouble Knight… I'll see you next time" before placing a kiss on the bound boy's cheek, leaving behind a red lipstick mark.
Waving goodbye to the twins, the mystery girl disappeared through the school doors.
"What the heck was that Max!" exploded Phoebe.
"Uhh, Barbie? She's been foiling my plans for the last couple weeks" shrugged Max, as he attempted to get out of the handcuffs Rainbow had put him in.
"This has been going on for weeks? How have I not noticed it before?"
"I don't know. How did you know I was here tonight?" asked Max.
"You two of you set off a silent alarm" explained Thundergirl, causing her brother to swear.
"So, you gonna turn me in to Mom and Dad?" grumped Max.
About to say yes, Phoebe paused as a thought occurred to her. "Actually, how about I let you go?" Sure it was definitely a bad idea but she blamed it on the weeks of boredom she had been experiencing. "You get to keep committing your little crimes, and I get to practice stopping you. It's a win-win… Well, for me, 'cause I'll always win".
Max thought about it for a minute, "Okay, I...I accept your challenge. But when I win, I'll be the one flaunting it in your face, and you'll never catch me".
Phoebe watched unimpressed as her brother sped away laughing, only to run face first into the clear school doors.
"Ouch!" exclaimed the boy, rubbing his head, "The door caught me – not you" he insisted before exiting the school.
Rolling her eyes, Phoebe used her telekinesis to place the trophies back in their case before following her brother home to get some sleep.

Over the next two weeks Phoebe found herself in a variety of crazy situations cooked up by her insane brother. She managed to stop his 'evil' plots each time with minimal effort, leading to much complaining on Max's part. This was in part because whenever she arrived Rainbow would already be there. Ten out of ten times the pair would be engaged in their weird flirting-sparing thing which Phoebe promptly broke up and ordered Max home.
"I was this close to stealing those jewels" snapped Max one night as Phoebe dragged him back home from a failed museum break in. When Phoebe arrived, Max had Rainbow tied up and had been taunting her as he waved the jewels he was stealing in front of her, a tiara had been placed on the girl's head.
"Next time don't stick around after committing the crime to gloat" sighed Phoebe. "Isn't that like Villain 101?".
Max just grumbled unhappily and disappeared into his lair to sulk.
Another time she caught her foolish brother at the zoo and he swore all the way home that he "was this close to starting an elephant stampede". Rainbow had been snapping selfies with the zoo animals when the twins left.
"And I was this close to not catching you" replied Phoebe only to laugh and add "Just kidding. It was easy".
"Oh, I'll throw myself in," snapped Max as stormed into the house. "But this isn't over!" he warned as he slid down the slide into his lair.
*A New Hero - A New Hero - A New Hero*
Two weeks of crazy capers came to a head on a Friday evening. Phoebe was getting ready for her ballet audition when the tablet from the Hero League alerted that there was something that needed her attention in the town.
Walking into the Hidenville Department of Water and Power; Phoebe called, "Alright let's get this over with Dark Knight. Whoa! Defeated by a door. I'm just gonna stop trying so hard;" remarked Phoebe as she found Max with his head trapped between the automatic doors. Surprisingly there was no sign of Madam Danger.
"I'm about to have my head popped like a zit. Just get me outta here!" whined her brother as he struggled to get free.
"All right, fine. I'll save your life… again" teased Phoebe, pushing open the doors easily with her telekinesis.
As she did so, Max's hands shot forward and attached two gold bands to Phoebe's wrists. "I'm not the one who's gonna need saving this time," he growled.
"And what exactly do I need saving from?" asked Thundergirl doubtfully.
"Oh, just the world's only gold-attracting magnet" smirked Max, as he hit a button on his watch causing Phoebe to go flying across the room and slam into the wall next to a very familiar figure.
Madam Danger was stuck to the wall unable to move due to the gold in her belt and wrist bands, her mouth was gagged and honestly she just looked kinda bored. The fact that she was restrained and unable to speak explained how Phoebe had missed her originally. The girl shot Phoebe a look as if to say, 'can you believe this guy?'
"Look at that, I've got my two favorite women in this room" crooned Max, striding over to the bound girls. Raising a hand, Max laid it on Rainbow's face, fingers grazing her mask, his eyes burning with a clear desire to see just who was underneath the mask and brightly colored wig.
"Max, what are you up to?" demanded Phoebe, in her best superhero voice.
Turning to face his sister, Max declared "I'm about to take down your town. I told you this wasn't over".
"Fine, you win this round. Now can you please let me go so I can get to my ballet audition?" demand Thunder Girl, assuming that an audition wouldn't be enough to give away their identities to Rainbow.
"You're not going anywhere" snapped Max, strolling back into the pump room. "See these pipes? They bring water to the city and I'm gonna melt them with this nitric acid and turn Hiddenville into a desert".
Rainbow lifted an eyebrow at that, clearly intrigued. Phoebe watched as the girl struggled against the magnets to try and raise her hand.
"Uh Dark Knight? Rainbow here's got something to say". The girl made a very irritated sounding huff beside her, clearly still not loving the nickname.
"Hey, pipe down you two! Get it? Pipe. That's goin' in chronicle!" cackled Max, as he hooked his barrel of nitric acid to the pipe system. "Time to unleash Operation Dry Mouth".
Sensing that she was running out of time, Phoebe muttered "Come on, Thundergirl, Think! Oh, maybe I can melt the wiring in the magnet with my heat breath".
Phoebe blew her heat breath over the wires while ignoring Rainbow's muffled but frantic protests.
"Okay, the only thing that could go wrong is if the polarity reverses itself-Whoa!" yelled Phoebe as both girls were thrown to the ground with a heavy thud.
Lying on the ground groaning, Rainbow pulled down her mask to remark "Why didn't you just freeze him or use your telekinesis. Jeez for being powered you two don't take full enough advantage of them"
"Fight now, critique later" snapped Phoebe, pulling the girl to her feet.
"Dark Knight! You have to stop this madness! Please" begged Madam Danger as the superheroes rushed into the pump room.
"It's too late, my dear! The nitric acid is already making its way through the pipes. The town is done for"
"Yeah, I'm not so sure about that" drawled Phoebe as she rubbed off some dirt which was covering the label on the barrel. "This says it's not nitric acid, it's citric acid… as in orange juice"
"What? Colosso, how could this happen?" demanded Max to his watch where the bunny was on screen.
Rainbow looked confused. "Who's Colosso?"
"You try shopping online with paws!" protested the huffy rabbit before signing off.
"Yum! Free orange juice for everyone! It's like you're Hiddenville's other superhero– Captain Backfire" teased Phoebe, knowing that being called a hero would get under Max's skin like nothing else.
"Hey! I'm Hiddenville's other superhero" protested Madam Danger, only to be ignored by both twins.
"Ugh! I wanna crush this town, not provide it with part of a balanced breakfast. I gotta stop that juice!"
"Good luck with that" scoffed Phoebe.
"Aha! The outflow pipe!" called Max, as he melted the pipe with his heat breath.
"Dude! What have you done? You're gonna back up the whole system and all the pipes will burst" shrieked Madam Danger, her eyes wide behind her mask.
"Oh, you're so dramatic, Barbie" waved off Max, only to freeze as several pipes burst and alarms started to wail. "But you're not wrong. Good enough for my evil chronicle. Let's get outta here before this place blows".
"No, I'm not going anywhere. This is my city. I have to protect it" declared Phoebe. Grabbing the nearest pipe the girl tried to stem the leak. Rainbow did the same across the room.
"I can't leave you," said Max.
"Because you care about us?" asked Phoebe
"No, the door's locked" drawled Max.
Rainbow rolled her eyes and ordered Max to stop the leak in the pipes nearest him.
"Oh, no. There's another leak over there" worried Phoebe, since she was already using both hands to block leaks, she had to kick her leg up by her head to block the leak.
"Oh! Did you see that perfect technique? I would have nailed that ballet audition if you didn't make me miss it".
"Meh… 7 outta 10" shrugged Rainbow.
"Oh you think you can do better?" dared Phoebe.
The girl smirked, "Challenge accepted". The rainbow haired superhero climbed her way between two sections of pipe and did the splits to block leaks with her feet as well as her hands. "You were saying?" she asked with a cocked brow
Max's jaw had dropped when he saw the girl's flexibility. He came back to himself though when he got hit in the face with a stream of orange juice. Sputtering, he did his best to cover it up."That's enough, both of you! This isn't my fault. It's yours, Thundergirl!"
"Oh, yeah? How do you figure? You're the one trying to destroy Hiddenville, you fresh-squeezed fool!" snapped Phoebe.
"Because of your dumb challenge. And because you wouldn't stop blabbing about saving my life".
"Since when do you care about me teasing you?" asked Phoebe, the twins had always acted like this. Why was this time any different?
"Since everything's been coming up Phoebe!" shouted Max. "I've been in a total evil slump while you've been out saving me, saving the town, doing that weird thing you do with your leg. How do you even do that?"
"I'm not as great as you think, okay? I should be out solving crimes, not daring you to do them".
"You guys made a bet about commiting crime?" asked Rainbow.
"And I certainly shouldn't be going around bragging about saving lives– like I saved yours" continued Phoebe, ignoring the girl.
"Seriously?" yelled Max and Rainbow incredulously.
"Sorry! Last time. I promise".
"Warning! System failure in ten seconds. Assume blast protocol" blared the computer system.
"There's gotta be a way to shut down the system before the building explodes" said Rainbow, "I really don't want to get blown up today".
Phoebe looked around the room and grinned when she spotted the perfect thing, there was only one problem; "There! We need to turn that wheel! Dark Knight, I don't have any hands left. You'll have to do it".
"You're so lazy" whined Max.
"Just save the town!" snapped the girls.
Using his telekinesis, Max turned the wheel to shut off the water distribution, restoring the balance of the machine.
"System restored" blared the computer.
"Ma- Dark Knight, you did it! You saved Hiddenville" cheered Phoebe, hoping that the Rainbow haired girl didn't catch her fumble over Max's name.
"No, I saved you… which makes us even!" laughed Max victoriously.
"All right. Fine" Phoebe playfully sighed. "Hey, I wonder where all the orange juice went?"
"Who cares? Everything's finally coming up ME!"
Unfortunately for the boy, at the moment a chute opened up and a large amount of orange juice fell on Max, causing him to hit the floor.
"And now everything's coming down You" giggled Rainbow, making her way over to the drenched boy.
"This is so not going in my chronicle" groaned Max, dropping his head in defeat.
"Cheer up, it's not a total loss" comforted Madam Danger, helping Max to his feet.
"How?!"
"Well at least you know your gold attracting magnet works" she offered.
"Yeah! You're right!" perked up the boy.
"I'm always right," winked Rainbow. Pressing a kiss to Max's cheek she commented, "oooh Orange juicy. Stay outta trouble Knight… I don't wanna see you for a couple days"
"No promises Barbie"
The girl just shook her head and waved goodbye to Phoebe as she made her way out the door "Night, Thunder Girl".
*A New Hero - A New Hero - A New Hero*
Amelia was exhausted the next day and instead of sleeping in like she wanted to, she was spending her Saturday morning driving to Bordertown University to pick up papers for Charlotte. She quickly located the Registrar Office in the Student Union and dropped off Char's registration papers and check. As she was making her way back through the lobby Mia spotted a VERY familiar face.
"Fred?" she whispered. Sitting in one of the armchairs working on his laptop was none other than Fred Benson. Sure the man was several years younger than the last time Mia had seen him, but she was sure it was him.
Team Danger had previously made peace with the fact of having to wait to find Fred again through the Hero League, and possibly never seeing him again. But now standing her in front of their old kickass Tech Genius… Mia couldn't bring herself to walk away.
Plopping down in the open chair beside Fred, Mia stuck out her hand with a grin "Hi I'm Mia! Do you go to school here?"
"Uhh, Yeah. I'm Freddy. I'm sorry, do you want an autograph or something?" asked the young man clearly surprised that she was talking to him.
"No?" replied Mia, kicking herself as she realized he probably thought she was some crazy iCarly Web Series fan. The fact that she had been a fan of the series when Fred and his friends were running it was neither here nor there though. "I'm here checking out the campus and thought I'd ask some of the student body how they liked it" she lied.
"Oh," sighed Fred, a look of relief on his face. Mia remembered how in the future they had had many conversations about how he worked to distance himself for that part of his life. "Yeah, I'm a student here. I'm studying computer coding".
"No way! That's super cool. I have a friend who is pretty good at computers too, I swear she's like a total machine"
"That's fun. What are you thinking about studying Mia?"
"I'm not sure yet… maybe criminology, political affairs or journalism"
"Those are all great options" encouraged Fred. "We have a great Political Science program here at B.U.".
The pair chatted for a while before trading phone numbers when Fred had to reluctantly dash off to his internship.
"I really hate this job, but I need the money" he explained, when Mia asked why he looked so bummed to leave.
"Have you looked for something else?" she asked curiously.
"Yeah, but it's hard to be taken seriously with my internet footprint. I'd also ideally like something that uses my tech skills" shared Freddy.
"Dude, that totally sucks. I'm so sorry. If I think of something that fits your skills I'll text you?" she offered, internally planning to draft up his offer letter that evening.
"Thanks, I'll take leads from anywhere. I'm supposed to graduate at the end of the semester and I still don't have anything lined up. At this rate I'll have to move back to Seattle to live with my mom"
"Well between the two of us I bet we can find something" laughed Mia, shaking Freddy's hand before the pair split up to go their different ways.
Making it back to her car Mia whipped out her phone and opened her chat with the rest of Team Danger.
Family Meeting
Agent: Y'all are NEVER going to guess who I just met!
*A New Hero - A New Hero - A New Hero*
A week later, Fred officially signed on as a full fledged member of Team Danger. The time traveling quartet had decided it was best to keep the fact that they were technically from the future a secret for the time being, but other than that they gave the young man full range of the Danger Zone. It was love at first sight for Fred when he saw the computer setup that Mia had paid a company that contracted with Hero League to design.
It was decided that Fred would finish the last few weeks of his degree in Bordertown before moving to Hiddenville. He had declined the offer to move into the Danger Zone, choosing instead to rent an apartment in town. The first snowflakes blew into Hiddenville on December first marking the beginning of change. Mia rested easy knowing that piece by piece her family was becoming complete.
