Marty Deeks was the new liaison between the LAPD and the NCIS LA field office. He'd also been hiding an unusual secret from his new team over at NCIS. He wanted to tell them to get it all out in the open but he was also afraid of telling them. With the line of work he was getting into it was going to be far too dangerous.

Early one morning he was sleeping soundly in his room, he was in a very light sleep. He peeked his eye open and saw the other side of his bed empty. He sighed sadly. It had been the anniversary of his wife's death. His wife, Grace, was an agent for the FBI and had died. It's been only a year, the pain was still there. It seemed like it just happened yesterday. His hand rested where she would be.

His door quietly opened and in popped in a small little girl with long chocolate brown hair, ocean blue eyes, she had worn pink Disney Princess pajamas. The young girl was his and Grace's daughter, Danielle Riley. Or Dani as he called her for short. She was their only child. Grace was just about to leave the force to be a full time mother but that was cut short when she was killed in action.

Deeks still remembered being told, the words rang in his head . He was numb the entire time. How he told his daughter was hard. Dani was only six when her mother died, she hadn't fully understood her mother dying. What child would understand death? All she understood was her mother wasn't coming back.

Dani was hurt the entire time it had taken a while for her to bounce back but the youngest Deeks had. Her father had taken a lot longer to bounce back, he had taken a few months leave of absence from work to be with his daughter. He wanted to retire from his job to be a full time father, but he couldn't. When he managed to return to work he had enlisted the help of his mother to watch his daughter while he worked.

When he had finally returned to work he was given a new assignment as liaison between LAPD and the NCIS field office. He never told the new team about his daughter nor did he bring his work home with him. One thing he swore was he would never bring his job home and endanger his daughter.

The dirty blonde man had been broken out of his thoughts by his young daughter climbing on the bed, getting in the empty spot and laid on her side, her small blue eyes met his larger blue ones. The father smiled softly, brushing her hair back. God she looked so much like her mother. Sometimes it physically hurts him to look at her. It was a mixture of hurt and comfort.

"Good morning daddy," Dani says softly.

"Good morning sweet girl" Deeks voice was just as soft. "Are you ready to spend the day with nana?"

"Why can't I come to work with you?"

"Because my job is too dangerous for you sweetheart. Besides you'll have so much fun with nana"

Before Dani could speak the front door opened and a woman's voice was heard. "Marty! Marty!"

Knowing his mother's voice anywhere he groaned and got up, Dani hopped on his back wrapping her arms around his neck smiling. He couldn't help but smile and turned his head back kissing her cheek, he made sure to get hold of her as they walked down.

Roberta Deeks looked around her son's house when she was about to call him about she had heard footsteps coming and coming into view was her son and granddaughter. After Grace had died she moved in to help her son, she moved out just a few months back and missed them dearly already.

"Mom it's 7 am what are you doing here so early?" Deeks asked his mother.

"I'm here to see you and my grandbaby," Roberta spoke with a huge smile.

"I was gonna bring her to you like I always did"

"It's fine, I have some errands to do this morning anyway. I was gonna take her with me"

"I really appreciate your help ma"

"Oh it's the very least I can do for my little boy and my grandbaby"

"Just please no sugar today I want her to actually sleep tonight"

The older woman smiled and went to her granddaughter Marty had looked at his mother. "Ma. Ma! Mother!"

His mother was already gone and went to his daughter. "Well this outta be an interesting day"
