When Callen and Sam saw the older woman and young girl, they were shocked. Deeks had a child. They had a feeling he was holding something back from them but this was something they weren't expecting. Sam couldn't be angry, as a father himself he understood where Deeks was coming from. As a parent, all they wanted was to protect their children.
Callen wanted to be angry but for a moment he had put himself in Deeks shoes and thought about what he would do if he was a parent. He'd wanna protect the child too. Their world was far more dangerous and it made perfect sense to keep the kids away from that world.
After the initial shock had worn off the two men, both had smiles on their faces to keep straight faces. Callen had stepped forward first.
"Mrs. Deeks, I'm Special Agent Callen, NCIS and this is my partner, Sam Hanna, as Agent Blye told you we work with your son. We're going to put you and Dani into protective custody until we solve your son's shooting" Callen tells the older woman gently.
"How long will we be in protective custody?" Roberta asked him, keeping her granddaughter close.
"Just until we catch the shooters, once we apprehend them you and Dani will be safe to go back home. Your son just wants to ensure that you both are safe"
"I understand"
The youngest Deeks had looked at the two men. "Can we say bye to daddy first?"
Sam smiled, the little girl reminded him of his own daughter. "I think we can arrange that"
The three agents had taken the older woman and the small child. Deeks was bored out of his mind just laid and cooped up in the hospital bed. Suddenly the curtain was moved and he saw his mother and daughter with his team. Callen hoisted the little girl onto the bed so she can get to her father. Dani had hugged him tightly and the young father had hugged her just as tight.
Deeks had pulled his daughter back and looked into her small blue eyes that had matched his own. "I want you to be on your best behavior Dani, I want you to listen to Nana, Callen, and Sam, do you understand me?"
"I understand daddy"
"That's my girl. And please don't go anywhere by yourself"
She nodded. "I understand daddy"
He softly kissed her head and smoothed her hair back. "You have your inhaler?"
"Yes daddy"
"And you remember how to take it if needed right?"
"Daddy, I know how to do it. I'm a big girl now"
He smiled and chuckled. "Go with Nana for a moment"
"I've got her Marty" Roberta assured her son.
"Thanks, ma" He gave his mother a smile.
The older woman had taken her young granddaughter and stepped out, Kensi followed them while Callen and Sam eyed the injured detective. Deeks knew what they wanted to talk to him about.
"I was going to tell you guys, I was. I just didn't know when" Deeks told the two men. "It's not because I don't trust you guys, I do. I really do. It's the job it's twice as dangerous as being a detective. I didn't wanna take any chances"
"Deeks relax, we aren't mad. We're shocked but not mad" Callen told him.
The injured detective looked surprised himself. "You're not?"
This time Sam spoke. "Deeks you were protecting your child. We understand. We'd have done the same thing"
"Besides you made me, Sam, and Eric uncles. You made Kensi and Nell aunts. And Hetty an honorary grandmother. Dani and your mother now became our family and we protect our own" Callen continued.
A smile had formed on Deeks's lips. His team had already accepted his family, he knew his mother and daughter would be in the best hands possible. Nobody would ever get past Callen and Sam, at least not alive.
"Thanks, guys. Oh before I forgot, Dani has asthma, she has her inhaler with her. If at all she starts to wheeze, huff, puff, she gets two puffs of her inhaler. She knows how to give it to herself and my mom"
"We got it Deeks we'll take them to the boat shed and keep them safe. We'll have an agent with them. For now, you just rest and recover"
The two agents padded his blanket and left. Kensi had gone back to her partner, Callen and Sam went and got Roberta and Dani. They escorted them out to the car and soon they had left for the boatshed.
