"Oww…." Kaito grabbed his head at the phantom pain that comes with being bashed in the head with a shot put ball and immediately 'respawning', for lack of a better word, back to where it all apparently began. As soon as he realized he was back in the locker, he immediately forgot he was in a locker, and tried to bolt straight forward. He fell out of said locker, subsequently landing on his face. "Woah- ouch!"
"Uh. Are you okay?" Ryoma's voice sounded from above him.
Kaito slowly sat up, still rubbing his head. "Y-yeah… Yeah! I'm great!"
Ryoma raised an eyebrow and grimaced. "Oh really? Because you're nose is bleeding all over your shirt"
"Huh?" Kaito swiped his hand under his nose, only to see Ryoma was right. The side of his hand was now painted scarlet, and he could see red stained drops of blood down the front of his shirt. "Shit, I must've hit my nose pretty hard huh?"
"Yeah, I could hear the crack from across the room."
Kaito groaned, and pinched the top of his nose. "I'm gonna find a bathroom real quick, I'll catch you later Ry- uhh… whatever your name is."
"The names Ryoma Hoshi. I'll catch you later… maybe. You shouldn't hang around someone like me."
Kaito was about to protest as usual, but Ryoma gestured for him to get going, before his white shirt became completely red.
Kaito hurried out the door, and rushed to the nearest bathroom, which he thankfully already knew the way to. Small blessings he decided. Really small. Kaito leaned over the sink, grabbing a paper towel to hold over his nose. He had started to notice the pain, and he was a bit worried about his nose being broken, but he couldn't very well check if his nose was crooked with the towel in the way.
It was several paper towels, and two very red hands before his nose finally stopped bleeding, and he was able to assess the damage. He quickly washed his hands as he leaned closer to the mirror. The pain had subsided to a dull ache, was less painful then he figured a broken nose would be, so he wasn't to worried about that, and his nose looked fine, if not a little bruised from the fall, and red from all the handling it had just gotten from the rough paper towels, but he deemed himself fine, telling himself that if his nose started hurting again he would ask Kirumi for help. After making sure he looked presentable, or as presentable as a person with blood all over their shirt could look, he swung the bathroom door open, revealing a startled Shuichi and Kaede.
"Oh! Hi there!" Kaito grinned.
"Uh, hello." Kaede smiled, but it didn't quite reach her eyes. "Why are you…covered in blood?"
"Huh? Oh! No worries, it's all mine!" Kaito reassured them, holding out his hand in a thumbs up gesture.
Shuichi and Kaede didn't look any less on edge.
"Uh… are you… okay?" Shuichi mutered.
"Oh yeah! Sorry if I scared you, when I stepped out of the locker I was in, I tripped and fell on my face! I just finished cleaning myself up, and was about to explore this place and see if I could find anyone, but when I opened the door I saw you two, so mission accomplished!"
"I see… that makes sense!" Kaede smiled again, and this time it looked genuine, though Shuichi still looked a little skeptical behind her.
"My name is Keade Akamatsu!" Kaede said, cheerfully, before pointing to Shuichi. "And this is-"
"Shuichi… Shuichi Saihara."
"It's nice to meet you!" Keade finished.
"Nice to meet you two, too! Though it's too bad it couldn't be under different circumstances. My name is Kaito Momota! Luminary of the stars! Even crying children adore the ultimate astronaut!" Kaito Recited.
"The ultimate astronaut? So you've been to space before? That's amazing!" Kaede looked as starry-eyed as Kaito remembered.
"Well, technically I'm still in training, but I'll get to space one day! You can count on it!" Kaito rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly before grinning and smashing his fists together.
"Oh." Kaede's expression fell a bit, but she quickly regained her smile. "Well I'm sure you'll get there! Let's find a way to escape this place so you can get to space, okay?"
"Right! We'll definitely get out of here together!" Kaito decided to ignore the pit that was reforming in his stomach.
"It'll be a piece of cake with the ultimate detective on our side!" Kaede added, nudging Shuichi.
"Ultimate detective, huh? That's great!" Kaito praised. "You must be super smart to achieve that status! I bet you've already solved countless cases!"
"A-ah, no! I'm a detective in training… nothing really special, I just… happened to solve a case before the police once…."
"That's still an amazing achievement! You'd make a great side-kick!"
"That's what I've been trying to tell h- wait what? Side-kick?" Kaede looked extremely confused.
"I mean side-kick! You know, like Robin and Batman!"
"What are you, a superhero?" Kaede raised an eyebrow. "Maybe you should be Shuichi's side-kick, he is the detective after all."
"Huh? That's not how it works! He's my side-kick because he needs training! Look at him, he's scrawny like a twig! He needs someone, like me, to help him get some muscles so he can be even cooler!" Kaito hit his fists together again. Had it always felt so ridiculous, or was he just getting more self conscious?
Kaede crossed her arms. "Well m-"
"Don't worry Kaede! You can be my sidekick too!" screw it. Maybe if she was his sidekick he could stop her from killing Rantaro… maybe… somehow.
"H-huh?"
"It's decided then! Nice to meet you, side-kicks!"
"But we didn't agree t-"
"Well, as the leader of this group, I think we should split up to cover more ground! You two pair up and keep looking down that hallway!" Kaito pointed to the right of where he stood, the opposite of where the duo and been coming from when he opened the door. "And I'll go this way!" He pointed the other way.
"Wait, hold on a seco-"
"Catch ya later, side-kicks!" Before the two could argue further, Kaito turned to the direction he had pointed for himself, and quickly ran away. If they didn't get a chance to accept his offer, then they also didn't have a chance to refuse his answer, and that was better than nothing.
Kaito kept running down a few different hallways, surprised he hadn't seen anyone. He had lost track of time, so he had no idea where anyone would be by this point… well, he had a pretty good idea where Tsumugi was, but he really didn't want to see her right now… or ever preferably.
Kaito turned another corner, and ran into someone, sending them both tumbling over.
"Ouch…"
"Hey! Watch where you're going, degenerate male!"
Dammit
"Oh, my bad!" Kaitoo scrambled to his feet, wincing when his eye's met Tenko's, who was of course glaring. "I was jus' trying to find someone and wasn't paying attention to where I was going, sorry 'bout that!"
"As you should be! Tenko doesn't tolerate degenerate males and their clumsy falling! Next time this happens Tenko will throw you! Kiyaaa!" Tenko karate chopped the air in threat.
"I'm… sure you will, Tenko"
"Are you mocking me, male?!"
"What- no! I'm serious, I don't doubt that you'd throw me!"
Tenko didn't drop her raised hands. "Tenko doesn't have time to-"
Tenko was cut off by an alarm.
Ding Dong Bing Bong
A monitor on a nearby wall blinked to life, showing all 5 monocubs sitting on the stupid orange patterned couch. Just the sight of them made Kaito nauseous.
Monophanie spoke first. "Thanks for bearing with us!"
"Kept you basterds waiting huh?"
"Everyone make your way to the gym please."
"The opening ceremony can finally begin!"
"Phew, we finally finished all our preparations."
"...you do realize you read your lines backwards, right?" Monosuke sounded like he would have facepalmed if his arm was long enough.
"So long! Bear well!" All the monokubs sang before the monitor winked out.
The gym meeting, that's the first time all 16 of them gather together. More importantly, this is when the killing game should be announced, and everyone will try to escape through the secret passageway… which would lead to nowhere. and soon after the first motive would be announced, then the time limit, and then-
"Hey… degenerate male, are you ok?"
"H-huh? Oh yeah, I'm fine! Don't worry about me!"
"Hmph. Tenko's not worried about someone like you! Tenko was just making sure you didn't die of disgust after seeing those ugly bears! Now hurry your lazy ass up, you heard those things, we have to go to the gym!"
Kaito nodded. "Yeah… the gym, right. Let's go! Wherever we are, and whoever took us here, I'm sure we can outmatch them together and beat them, easy peasy!" He felt bad lying through his teeth, but what else could he do?
"Tenko will destroy whoever took us here right now!" Tenko didn't wait for any kind of responce before turning and running towards the gym.
Did she already memorize the map on her monopad?
Kaito shook his head, before quickly following
/
Kaito arrived at the gym a few moments after Tenko, which was apparently enough time for her to become besties with Himiko, since she was already way up in her personal space. Kaito looked around at all the familiar faces around him, and felt the now familiar pit forming in his stomach. He wanted more than anything to walk right into the middle of the crowd, and give some kind of inspirational speech about how far they'd come, and how far they'd go… but how far had they gone? No one would be inspired, everyone would just feel more disturbed. Kaito… didn't know what to do. He saw Maki standing by herself towards the corner of the room, but he wasn't sure how to go over there. What would he say? What could he say? Kaito couldn't remember… what had he said to her when he first talked to her the first time? What could he say now?
Kaito was shaken from his thoughts, again, when he saw Shuichi and Kaede enter the gym, Kaede looking determined as ever, and Shuichi looking as nervous as ever. Kaito decided to take the weaker option, like the coward he is, and go over to them.
"Hey there side-kicks!" Kaito grinned, sauntering over.
Kaede and Shuichi looked at him warily, as he neared.
"We never agreed to be your side-kicks." Kaede said, squinting.
"What? You can't back out on me now! I have big plans for us!"
"Plans?" Shuichi muttered.
"Yeah, we-"
Kaito was cut off by the arrival of the exisals arriving, and the obvious mayhem and dispair they brought with them.
The last thing Kaito wanted to hear was the monokuma's yapping, and he definitely didn't want to see monokuma's weird appearance. His chest hurt as his friends, if he could even call them that at this point, all slowly realized the amount of danger they were really in. He felt like he was working on auto-pilot, even up to when they went to the underground obstacle course. He felt like a zombie, mindlessly walking and talking, all the way until he eventually reached his bed, at 10:00, collapsing onto it, and staring at his ceiling. He blinked a few times, feeling like he completely missed everything that happened the whole day.
What the hell was that?
/
Kaito didn't know what to do. The time limit was coming to an end sooner rather than later, and he didn't know what to do. He already had his group of fighters down in the basement, preparing for a fight Kaito wasn't sure if he should try to prevent or not. Last time he'd been rash. He'd rushed to "save" Rantaro, without much thought. He'd been unprepared, and got his skull smashed by a shot put ball. Just thinking about it was enough to make his head spin. He didn't want to be killed again… but he couldn't just sit back and watch Rantaro die. But what else could he do? If Rantaro didn't die, what would happen with the time limit? Would they all just die anyway? Kaito grit his teeth, hard enough that it hurt. What. Could. He. Do? Kaito needed to get everyone out, as safely as possible, but how? How was it possible? Was it even possible? How long would it take for Kaito to find the answer? If there even was an answer. Maybe Kaito was destined to wander these halls for the rest of time, watching his friends and himself die over and over again. Maybe their really is no way out. Kaito had to bite his lip to keep from scoffing. Look at him. Not too long ago he was going around throwing around the phrase "The impossible is possible, all you gotta do is make it so!", hell, he'd probably said it at least 5 times just today. Yet here he is, faced with an impossible task, doubting his abilities to get through it. Who says he can't find a way out of this? He's Kaito Momota, luminary of the stars! If anyone could figure this out, he could. And he'd made his decision.
Kaito walked up to Rantaro, who was doing some basic stretches in the corner of the room they were in.
"Hey, I thought you were training with Gonta." He said, joining Rantaro and copying his stretches.
"I was, but he decided to watch some bug movie or something."
"Bug movie? We're supposed to be training to fight, not catch bugs!" Kaito paused his stretching, frowning in faux confusion.
Rantaro shrugged. "He said bugs motivate him."
"Huh… well I guess he is the ultimate entomologist." Kaito shrugged, and continued his moves.
Rantaro nodded. Their conversation awkwardly faded after that, the silence almost suffocating to Kaito, but he preferred the awkward silence over finding Rantaro's dead body again.
Kaito kept his eye on Rantaro, and made sure to stay near him, making sure he didn't leave the room. Any time Rantaro moved away, Kaito would either follow, or make sure someone else was with him. The whole time the group sat in the room, the music from the monitors got louder and louder, becoming almost ear splitting. It got to the point where you'd have to yell to be heard over the racket. Tenko, Himiko, and Rantaro were covering their ears, and Gonta stumbled into the room again, looking a bit off while he too covered his ears in pain.
"Is this music ever going to stop?" Tenko yelled.
"Yeah, when we all get massacred by that damn demon plush." Maki rolled her eyes.
"Or when someone dies!" Angie said, sounding way too happy for her own good.
"Hey! Don't say that, we're not goi-" Kaito stopped talking, along with everyone else. The room went dead silent.
The music had stopped.
The monitor mounted on the wall winked to life, a distant ding dong bing bong chiming, and Monokuma appeared, looking somehow smug as he gazed into the camera.
"A body has been discovered! Everyone please go to the dorms area, where you can investigate for a certain amount of time, until I get bored, then, prepare yourselves for the trial of your lives! And I mean that literally! Puhuhuhuhuhu!" The monitor winked off again, leaving us all in shocked silence.
(A/N Are we ready for the investigation? and the trial? Who do you think died? Who do you think did it? review? maybe, please? They speed up the process a bit... ok bye 3)
