Ranger's POV
The detective seems to be sharp, taking in the entire scene beyond and behind the yellow tape. Saw Babe as the victim of the blown up car fairly quickly. That meant he was aware of which person to ask the statement to and go from there. Average but slightly built build, must've served a decade or so ago to still have the rigid assessing form in a controlled way, but no special forces indications. He doesn't look like just a detective, maybe a Fed or working for an alphabet agency currently on loan to the PD. Might be a cover to see the happenings and assess the internal workings from the local perspective rather than just relying on the sayso of reports.
Anything or anyone new that would be hovering within my Babe's life will need to be throughly vetted. I can't afford for her to be harmed by anyone, be it underground or above ground, dark or supposedly the light side of the law. Lord knows money talks to either side of the law, and I will not leave it to a prayer that my Babe will be safe. She gets into the worst parts of any situation just by stumbling in a sale or a trip to the Tasty Pastry. Shaking my head, I drive off to Rangeman so I can get a pulse on the underground, see what chatter involves my Babe and go from there.
