Paul's POV
Jordan was on the phone with her mom a few steps away from me. I could tell that she was getting some bad news. But I wasn't sure if it was bad news because of something to do with her mom or something bad with her dad. I guess I was just going to have to wait to find out. When she got off the phone she came back to me.
"Everything okay?" I asked giving her a hug.
She nodded. "Yes, everything is cool. Jules is flying out in an hour. She is on her way to the airport right now. Her dad has been sick lately and so this isn't good."
I kissed her hair. "You sure you're okay with this?"
She nodded. "Actually, he never really liked me. Never liked the fact that Jules married Sam either which is why he isn't going either. It might make it nice for you though cause, it means that you can spend more nights with me." She smiled up at me. Turning towards the beach instead of going straight which is where we needed to go.
I pulled on her hand. "No, we need to go this way. We can go to the beach after we go see where you are meeting Sue." I had to laugh at the pout on her face. She really wasn't happy about it at all, but she did seem to accept the idea.
"I like going to the beach though. Oh, could I meet her at the beach instead of at her house?" She lit up for a few seconds until I shook my head.
"No, you are going to her house. But if you are a good girl then I'll take you to the beach for a picnic for dinner Monday night."
"Fine, I guess that is okay. I really don't want to go still though."
I smiled at her. "I could come with you for it if you wanted, I just have to tell Sue."
She shook her head. "It's okay, I don't want you to have to miss school. Kim said you guys miss enough school as it is already."
I shrugged. "Either way you want it. If she is home right now and doesn't have a client I can see about introducing you to her now."
Jordan shook her head. "Nope. I'm fine. I want to put this off as long as I possibly can. I really don't want to even be made to see a counsellor. I just want to get on with my life not have to keep revisiting what brought me to Sam and Jules in the first place."
When we got to the house Sue wasn't actually home. She may have gone out to go grocery shopping or something. But seeing how both her kids were at Sam's place probably for most of the day it was a really good time to do that. After I showed her the door to go in she nodded. "You sure you're okay? I mean you seem a little down and distracted."
She simply just nodded. "Yes, all good. Now beach?"
I smiled. "Yes, we can go to the beach now. Did you want to have a picnic lunch down there? I can get Embry and Quil to bring some lunch down and we can have a bit of a get together and teach you some Quileute over lunch?"
She nodded and smiled. "That sounds like a great idea. At least I'll know some for Monday morning in class."
I pulled out my phone calling Quil. He said he was happy to be able to get out of the house and bring Embry along for some fun. I could hear Jared asking in the background if I wanted Kim and him to come along too. I explained to Quil that it probably wasn't the best of ideas. He said okay and that they'd be down to the beach in less than 10 minutes for us to all have lunch.
I grabbed her hand pulling her close before walking towards the beach. "We could go cliff diving even if there isn't anyone at the beach."
Jordan just shook her head blushing a little. "I don't think that is such a good idea. I mean you guys can if you want to. But I don't do that kind of thing."
I smiled down at her. "So, tell me what you had to do yesterday with this machine?"
She smiled. "Well the wheels all needed to be oiled, Spike is constantly forgetting to do that to it. And then some of the bolts had to be tightened and the wires had to be checked and a few of them had to be replaced. It is fairly easy, but Spike lets me do it for him. Plus, sometimes he goes to fast and forgets to check something, then on test day it fails, that has happened a few times on him before."
I nodded. "So maybe you can help me with my truck one of these days?"
She just laughed. "Only if you can control it with a remote control."
When we got to the beach Quil and Embry were just getting there. "You mean to tell me that you can only fix small things?" I pouted at her as we walked towards the two.
She nodded and giggled. How I really loved that sound. Her laughing about things. In these moments when she was carefree. I wanted them to last forever, sadly I didn't think they were. There was a dark part of her past that was going to have to come out, a part that I know part of her was even scared to talk about. Part of me feared what was going to happen Monday afternoon with Sue, it was that part that wanted to join her there. But she had said no so I would respect that.
When we reached Quil and Embry they both were laughing about something. "So why did you want both of us down here?" Embry was facing Jordan.
"Well Paul said you two could help teach me Quileute which is awesome but this way I get to know both of you better seeing how tomorrow you'll be in one class with me."
Quil nodded. "Alright, but why not ask Seth to come down, I mean you have the rest of the day with him I think it's only fair." He smiled pulling out his phone.
Jordan just nodded. "I'm cool with doing that. I mean that way I'm sure Paul will calm down a bit about me being in a different class than he is."
I just huffed behind her, she was getting a bit cheeky again. Embry just laughed for a few seconds before telling Quil to make sure that Seth brings some food down for himself.
We all settled down on a few trees that had fallen before turning to her. Embry smiled before turning a goofy smile. "So, in gym we aren't doing too much, just a bunch of random sports, we were supposed to have health this week, but the girl's grade 10 class took the health room, so we can't have it."
Jordan breath a dramatic sigh of relief. "Thank god I don't have to deal with health class my first week in school. I would be bored out of my mind. Gym is supposed to be fun and health class is boring."
He nodded and laughed. "So, Emily made us sandwiches and ordered us to make sure you get some first before we get any. She was also disappointed that you didn't eat the dessert from last night."
She just shrugged getting all quiet again. I glared at him, pulling him up out of his seat and walking him away from her and Quil. "Why would you say that?"
He glared back. "I was trying to make her laugh, you know how nice it is to hear her giggle. I didn't mean to upset her."
I nodded running my hands through my hair. "Look Embry, I know but right now it is just really hard to deal with her. She is struggling with a few things. And hearing her laugh and be carefree is actually nice but I'm afraid that she is more of a fuse than I am."
Embry stepped back shocked. "Let's hope you're wrong there Paul. Now if we go back, we can tell you two how to get by the no PDA rule that the school has. Jared explained it to me a while back when I was going through a rough patch and wanting to make out with some girls."
I nodded walking back pulling Jordan onto my lap. "Was Quil nice to you while we were gone?"
She nodded snuggling onto my lap more but grabbing a sandwich from the basket first slowly starting to eat it. "Did she send some dessert today?"
Quil looked in the basket just as Seth came up carrying a container of cookies. "Emily baked these fresh, I almost got my hands hit quite a few times trying to take them."
Jordan just giggled grabbing the container from him, holding it tightly on her lap. "Well good, they are all for me, I might share a few with Paul but you three get none." With that she stuck her tongue out at them before returning her attention to her sandwich. I just smiled kissing her hair at least she was going to share with me.
Embry smiled back at her. "How about you let me hang onto those for safe keeping there Jordan? We wouldn't want Paul to sneak around you and eat them all."
She just laughed. "Like I believe that, no thank you Embry I am pretty sure they are perfectly fine on my lap. I trust that since I said I would share with Paul that he won't take any."
Seth sat down between Quil and Embry. "So, I get my hand hit trying to get those and all you do is take them and are not going to share them with us? That is so not fair Jordan!"
"Jordan be fair? Who are you trying to kid?" She whirled around to look at the offending person.
"Spike. I am always fair." She giggled before turning back to the guys. "Everyone this is Mike Scarletti and Louis Young. Or Spike and Lou."
Spike nodded. "I need to borrow Paul for a minute Jordan. I promise nothing big or bad I just need to have a conversation with him."
She slowly climbed off my lap as I followed him a distance away. Unfortunately, it wasn't far enough for my packmates to not hear what was being said but it was far enough for any human to not hear. "So, what's up?"
"I got the information to the person you were talking about. However, she does understand the problem with Jordan, well the one problem that she used to have. She came over to see us at my place about an hour ago and just left."
I nodded. "Well I'm glad she understands. Though I don't know if that will really help us out. She already is fighting the idea even with me."
Spike nodded. "Well we will see what happens tomorrow. I can't say that she will go to the appointment but if she doesn't, Sue has Sam's number and she will call him. Don't worry about that."
I risked looking over at her. I was worried about her and if she chose to not listen to her father and go to see Sue. "I'm worried, Spike. I mean she rambled on the other night about what would happen if she didn't go and see a counsellor and I don't want that to happen."
He put a hand on my shoulder. "Don't worry about that happening. It will all be fine. Last time to prevent anything from happening Sam and Ed went and dragged her to the counsellor, if they must do that again they will. But that was only a few months after she moved in with Sam. They know her better now, so stop worrying about that."
I nodded, actually happy that they had an idea of what to do. "Well at least someone does but we should get back to them before she decides to eat all those cookies, Emily can really make a mean chocolate chip cookie."
We walked back over to the group together. Spike leaned down opening the container on her lap taking a cookie out of it. He took a bite looking down at her. "I mean these are really good."
Jordan turned and glared up at him. "SPIKE! Those are for me!"
I laughed having a seat pulling her onto my lap. "Let everyone have one and we can share the rest." I took the container and passed it around telling everyone that they could have one, turning her head and giving her a kiss before hearing a whistle.
I glanced up to see Embry covering his eyes and Quil looked at us "Get a room you two."
I laughed again to find Spike and Lou gone. "So, how do I … I mean we deal with this no PDA rule on Monday?"
Embry smiled. "Well it is quite easy. Jared said that all you have to do is go outside the school walls then it is okay to do as you like. So, between classes and over lunch you can leave and go do your business outside away from all of our eyes."
Jordan giggled again, looking over at me. "Do you have to work today?"
I shook my head, "Nope, Sam gave me the day off to do as I like, which means staying with you all day and listening to you laugh."
She just blushed glaring at me slightly. "Don't say things like that especially when there are others around to see me blush!"
I did laugh kissing her on the nose. "But I like seeing you blush. It makes me happy to see you happy and smiling. Now what did you want to do for the rest of the day?"
She looked at the others then turned around and looked at me. "I want to stay here and enjoy the beautiful weather. You can tell me about what life is like and you can tell me what you and Spike were talking about."
"And are you coming to Emily's for dinner tonight?"
She just shrugged looking down at her hands. Before quietly saying "I doubt anyone wants me there." And before I knew it, she was out of my arms and a few feet away from me. With her legs pulled up to her chest.
I got up walking over to her. "I get it that you're scared about something happening again, but I promise nothing will happen again. Kim has been told to leave the matter alone actually, Sam ordered her to leave it alone. So, we can go there, you can help Emily cook. Maybe even hit Jared with a wooden spoon a few times if you wanted."
She laughed at that for a second. "I could give you a spoon and you could hit him for me."
Embry raised his hand, "Oh I'd love to do that, can I hit him instead?"
She nodded giggling grabbing a cookie from the container. After eating it entirely we turned to her and decided that Quileute would be too annoying right now and we could just sit and talk about random things. We explained about the bon fire that would be happening soon and that Emily would need help getting things ready for that as she cooked all day for it then we could hear the legends that night. I was happy we had one planned soon as it was going to be it was less than a week away. When it started to get dark, we decided to head back to Emily's house. By this point Jordan had calmed down about the idea that anything was going to happen, and she had promised to get Embry a wooden spoon so that he could hit Jared for her.
When we got to the house, we found Kim, Emily and Leah were in the kitchen while the rest of the pack was in the living room. Jordan just smiled up at Sam innocently before going into the kitchen we heard greetings in there before I heard Emily yell at Jordan. "Where are you taking that?"
"To Embry, we made a deal." I could hear the smile in her voice as she said it before she came back into the living room holding a good wooden spoon. "Now I have to go help Emily with dinner, you know what to do with this."
He nodded taking the spoon from her with an evil grin on his face. I sat back in my usual chair while Jordan skipped back to the kitchen, giggling.
Sam looked at Embry slightly confused. "What are you going to do with that, Embry?"
Embry just smiled hitting Jared's hand with the spoon, when he went to raise it again Jared tackled him to the floor. "Hey, I promised Jordan that I would hit you with the spoon if she was able to get me one from the kitchen." He just smiled as Jared grabbed the spoon away from him.
"I'm taking this back to the girls where it belongs as for you, I am going to make sure that is the deal that Jordan made with you, because I think she would have wanted you to hit Paul and not me."
Embry shook his head laughing. "Ask Quil if you don't believe me, Jordan said to hit you, not too sure why but she wanted you to be hit."
-Back in the kitchen-
Leah's POV
When Jordan returned to the kitchen, she started helping me at the stove. She seemed in a relatively good mood considering that she had spent the day with the boys, but she seemed to be okay with all of it so far. Though she couldn't hear what was going on in the living room where as I could.
"So, who did you really give the spoon to?" I looked down at her when she was finishing the pasta that I had been making.
She just smiled. "I told you I was giving it to Embry, when we were at the beach, he said he would do something for me if I agreed to come and help with dinner tonight. Here I am so he was going to do me the favour as long as I managed to get him a wooden spoon to do it with."
A second later Jared walked in rubbing his hand holding the wooden spoon. "Jordan, did you ask Embry to hit me with the wooden spoon."
Jordan just shook her head and giggled. "Nope I didn't. I had asked Paul to do it but before he answered Embry volunteered and he was so happy and excited about doing it I couldn't say no."
I had to step back from the stove because I was laughing too hard. Jordan was batting innocent eyes at Jared and he was a little upset with her though not enough to do anything. She was finally actually happy and that is what all of us wanted. Granted it came at Jared expense but even Kim was giggling about it.
Emily had a grin on her face too as she took the spoon away from him and threatened to hit his hand as he was reaching for the cookies. "You gave Seth an entire container this morning to take to the beach, can't I just have one?"
Kim shook her head at him. "It'll spoil your dinner."
Even Jordan snorted at that comment, "Come on Kim let him have one. I'm sure he will still out eat you and me at dinner tonight."
Jared just smiled and took a cookie taking it into the living room. To tease the others that he got a cookie for being hit if nothing else.
After that we finished making dinner and set the table for it. After we got something to eat Emily called to Sam to tell him that dinner was ready. The rest of the guys all went and got something to eat. Calm conversation happened over dinner as we all discussed school and the upcoming date for the 2 pairs on Friday night.
After dinner and a bit of razzing Paul decided to take Jordan home promising to be at work to relieve me at midnight as Jordan's father was suppose, to be home that night.
Jordan's POV
When we left the house, Paul turned to me for a minute leading towards the beach. "I need to talk to you about something!"
I nodded and followed him down the pathway, though he didn't start talking until we made it to the fallen tree at the edge. After having a seat, I looked up at him, "What's on your mind?"
He had a seat beside me. "I'm worried about you. I know you don't want to go see Sue tomorrow, but I understand how hard it is to talk about stuff. She is nice and sweet, kinda take the best parts of Leah and Seth and put them together into one person." He laughed for a second. "Can you tell me why you are scared or don't want to see her."
I shrugged but nodded. "It's hard to explain. It isn't that I don't want to see her specifically it's that I don't want to see anyone. That part of my life is over and done with, I'm fine or surviving right now. Can't everyone just leave this idea alone?"
He nodded hugging me slightly. "Then let me come with you tomorrow. I'll talk to Leah in a few hours see if her mom can make us lunch and we can take the rest of the afternoon off. Sam would be fine with it as will the school."
I shook my head. "I'll be okay to go to it don't worry. And I'm sure she is nice." I sat quiet for a second thinking about it. "It is like driving in a car only with a leash on it, do you remember those as kids? I can only get so far before I am pulled back by that cord connecting me to the remote. I want to cut that wire and maybe going to meet with her is the way to do that, but I don't know."
He nodded getting up holding out his hands to me. "Let's get you home before your father refuses to let me see you on Friday." He laughed for a second. "Oh, by the way he said that I could get to find out a few things about you on Friday from the other SRU officers there."
I nodded. "Yes, some of them might tell you a few things that I wouldn't normally tell you." We walked back to my place hand in hand.
The walk gave me a chance to think. Both Seth and Leah were nice and to take the best of both of them might be okay. But then again part of me didn't want to talk anymore about this. I did just want to get on with life I had met Paul and he didn't know about any of this really. So why bring of it back into my life, if only I could find who made the ruling here then maybe I could get them to reverse the need for me to actually talk to someone.
When we got to the house Paul was still smiling. He seemed happy and that was what matters more than anything. When we got to the front door, he stopped pulling me to him giving me a kiss before walking in the house.
"I see you brought her home in one piece again?"
Paul nodded to him. "We spent part of the day at the beach, but she has been fed and she should sleep really well tonight. I however have a few things that I need to take care of."
Sam nodded to him. "I need a word with you before you leave, but Jordan you should probably get ready for bed there is a lot of things to deal with tomorrow. I'll see you in a few minutes."
I nodded and headed towards my room. "We are going to Emily's place for breakfast tomorrow morning?"
Paul nodded to me. "I'll be here about 6 to pick you up."
Sam's POV
I sat down pointing at a chair at the table. "Can we talk for a second?"
Paul nodded to me having a seat. "Sure, what is this about?"
I sighed. "Spike called me after he was talking to you. I get that you are worried about her skipping the appointment tomorrow but don't worry about it. I need to know who runs the tribe though. Seeing how we are on their land if I want to get her out of these appointments, I have to talk whoever that is. I was wondering if you could figure out who that is and pass my number onto them?"
He nodded and smiled. "I will discreetly talk to Sam about it before going onto my stuff tonight, he would know who you have to talk to then I will tell you when I come to pick her up in the morning. I can even get you the person's contact information."
I nodded. "Please, though I should go say goodnight to her before she comes looking for me."
Paul nodded and got up heading to the door.
