Embry's POV – Night before
I tore off the porch at Sam's all happy that I got to spend the night with Jared and Jake. The three of us were usually able to have a blast. Paul had agreed to let me take the shift for him. Meanwhile Quil was inside trying to figure out his math homework. He had forgotten a page at school when he had come back to Sam's at lunch time, now he was trying to figure it out alone.
I phased after stripping at the edge of the woods. We ran together for a little while before we caught the scent of 4 vampires. They were feeding when we caught up to them. Of them sneered at us, red eyes met up with mine.
"Oh look, wolves, they should be yummy." He swiped a clawed hand at Jake. As Jared and I both let loose a howl hopefully pulling the rest of the pack to us. The chorus of howls that followed was music to my wolf's ears. The thoughts that all invaded me as Jake took a snapping bite at the vampire.
Paul was the first one to us. That is when I realized that we were really close to Jordan's house. The leader of the vampires looked at him. "That one smells like her."
"Are you sure?" The redhead looked at the leader. "I mean it has been years since you last lay your hand on her."
He grabbed the redhead's neck. "She was in my grasp years ago. You doubt my memory of smells, he smells like her. If she made friends with wild animals, she can have some back where she belongs."
Sam was in our thoughts now. That's it. We are coming up behind them. Let's take them down. They are after Jordan for some reason.
Jake growled baring teeth at the vampire as the rest of us took chase after them. They were vampires and they were on our lands.
It happened to be a long night which ended us getting 2 of them killing them both. However, the redhead and the leader managed to get away. Paul had sworn that he was going hunting them most of the morning, but we figured if the more of us were around Jordan the better. So here we are sitting at Sam's it is just past 5am and we are all dead tired. Paul had gotten a text from Jordan saying that she would be over around 5:30 for breakfast. Did she know about the danger that lay just outside her back yard?
"Sam, maybe one of us should call her to check on her." Jared suggested.
Paul shook his head. "Unless she has had her meds, she won't be able to answer the phone. And if she does it will just be silence. And hearing that silence will just make it worse for me."
Leah and Jake turned away from the windows. "They won't try to come back any time soon. But if they do, we will make sure she isn't left alone unless it is within the walls of the school where she can run. It is obvious that she will recognize them, or at least the leader."
It wasn't long before we heard knocking on the back door. It was quiet but our wolf ears can hear more than expected. When Emily opened the door and started scolding Jordan, we could hear how sheepish she was being to Emily. When Paul is called to the kitchen most of us relax but hearing Jordan's voice tell him that he is trembling has both Jake and Sam's attentions.
When he pulled her into the living room Quil put down the sketch pad. She glanced over to Jared, "I got your messages this morning. Thanks for what you said." Then she proceeds to tell Paul that she isn't mad at him as he had texted her and in fact, she found some of the texts quite funny.
When breakfast was ready Kim came in and told Jordan that they should go get some food. We could hear them talking in the kitchen and from what we could hear they were getting along quite well. It seems that Jordan was very forgiving with things. And simply just forgave Kim, but then I wondered what the messages from Jared had said, that maybe he had gotten involved in the entire situation between the 2 girls.
When breakfast was done Paul took Jordan into the living room as both Jake and I stood by watching everything unfold. Leah had gone out on patrol along with Quil, Sam would join them as soon as the rest of us headed off to school.
When he picked up the sketch book and scrolled through the pages Jordan took the book from his hands and placed it on the table. This caused both Jake and I to snicker.
"Jordan, I need to show you a picture that Quil drew this morning."
She simply shook her head. "Unless it is of that cute wolf I seen in the woods on Monday when I was at the beach, I don't care to see it. All other pictures in there are private."
Jake went into the room. "We can get you a picture of that wolf soon if you'd like. Maybe even let you meet it one day. But right now, Paul really does need to show you a picture Quil drew this morning. And we need to know something from you, okay?"
She leaned against Paul handing the book to Jake. "Go ahead and find the picture."
He took the book finding the page and showing it to her. Her hands shakily took the book before she went pale. "How did he see that man?" Her eyes met Jakes, "Would Quil be mad if we ripped this page out of his book?"
Jake simply shook his head, "No but where are you going?"
"We need to go to Forks, can you tell Sam that we are going to be late for school and get him to okay it with them." She was pulling out her cell phone glancing at him when he didn't move. "Go Paul."
We could hear her entire phone conversation with how close both Jake and I were.
'Shouldn't you be on your way to school, Jordan?'
"I will be soon, but can you meet me at Ed's. Grab Rav and my dad on the way there please."
'What's wrong?'
"I'll explain when we get there. Paul and I are leaving in a few minutes. So hurry." With that she hung up glancing around the room. "I think Sam needs to come with us."
Jake nodded to her. "Both Sam and Paul will go with you and see this through. But you sure you're okay? I mean you went pretty white when you seen that picture."
She nodded taking a steadying breath. "Ya, sure. I'll be fine you know me."
Paul's POV
I walked into the kitchen looking at Sam. "We need you to contact the school that Jordan and I are going to be late for school."
Sam looked at me. "How is she doing?"
Just shaking my head at him. "Not great. I think maybe you should come with us. We are heading to Forks to see someone about the one we seen last night. She paled when she seen the picture."
Jake and Embry took off for school, as Jordan and I piled into Sam's car and took off for Forks. He turned to Jordan, "Where are we heading?"
She looked up at him. "15 Court Drive. You can park on the street in front of the house."
He nodded, I pulled Jordan to me, kissing her hair. "You're trembling now. Are you okay?"
She nodded. "I'm fine. Just slightly scared of what can happen now that they are here again."
When we pulled up in front of the house there were 3 cars in the driveway. As if she could read my mind when she glanced up. "One is Spikes, one is Ed's and I assume the third is Sophie's who is Ed's wife." She got out of the car and walked up to the house, knocking on the door once and entering without waiting for an answer to come from inside.
When we greeted in the kitchen living room by a woman who smiled. "Jordan, how is school going?"
She shrugged. "It's okay, I miss Clark but that is to be expected. Would prefer him there instead of Kelly as we get along so much better."
The woman nodded. "Ed is in his office along with the guests all of whom are curious as to why you called this meeting."
Jordan nodded taking a steadying breath before walking down the hallway that we could hear voices coming from one of the rooms down the hall. I leaned down and nuzzled her neck which caused her to calm slightly. When we walked into the room it was stressful, and when Jordan almost reared back out the door I was concerned even more. But a gentle squeeze on her hand had her glancing up at me once more before turning to the room full of men.
"When I got to Sam's this morning after breakfast, Paul explained that them watching over the reservation had been why he had been called away from the house last night."
Spike and Jordan's father looked weary about this. Before Sam spoke up. "It is nothing to be concerned about the ones that look after the reservation are completely capable of handling almost anything and we have a local cop in Forks we can call if we need some more assistance."
Though we rarely called him despite him knowing about what we are and what we can normally do. It had a few nice reactions, especially Jordan calming.
"Well after that they showed me something that I think you guys are going to want to see." Her eyes met Rav's as she took the page and unfolded it and lightly tossed it onto the table.
Spike, Sam and who I assume is Ed all paled as the seen the paper. "His twin brother?" Ed gasped. "How did they get this?"
"He was behind your guys house I presume he was trying to catch a glimpse of Jordan as he knew her very well it seems."
I glanced down at her. "Whose twin brother is this?"
Her eyes met mine, "My biological father's twin brother. He used to run with about 4 others, you can bet that they aren't going to be far from him."
Spike glanced at me. "You positive she is safe where she is?"
Sam nodded, "Don't worry we won't let anything happen to her, she will have at least one of the guys or Leah with her all day, even when she is in school."
Ed nodded. "Well that is really a relief, but it doesn't solve that he is back around."
Jordan smiled. "I understand that. But at least with you guys all knowing it might work better and with everyone who patrols the reservation aware of it then I should be safe."
Sam nodded. "We should be able to keep her safe and Paul can stay with her at night to help things remain safe."
Everyone nodded, before Jordan's father looked at her. "You should be getting to class you are missing enough school today as it is."
Jordan just huffed. "Yes, I know 10 minutes of math class." I could almost hear her growl at him which made me snicker.
"Your father is right Jordan we should get going."
When we went to leave Ed smiled at me. "I look forward to getting to know you much better on Friday when you come to pick Jordan up for your date that night."
Jordan just giggled and shook her head. "I guess you didn't hear. Spike made a deal to get cookies from Emily so now Paul will be landing at the station only 10 minutes max before I am ready to leave so you guys don't get to ask him that many questions."
Ed turned angrily to Spike as Jordan pulled me from the room, Sam followed behind us. Jordan seemed to be in a much better mood. "You can drop us off at school, Sam."
He nodded to us as we sat in silence the entire way back to La Push. When we got to the school Sam glanced back at Jordan.
"This is an order, Jordan, you are not to go anywhere alone. You aren't to even be alone in the school at all. I'll send Leah to school today and everyday until he is caught and dealt with."
Jordan huffed. "Well at least this means that Paul is able to join me for my appointment over lunch." She smiled up at me.
Sam simply shook his head. "I get it, you don't want to go to the appointment but don't worry would there be anything that would make it go easier besides someone coming to join you?"
Jordan glanced at him and pretended to think. "hmm. Well now that you mention it. Jake said there might be a chance for me get a picture of the wolf I seen on Monday when I was at the beach, if I go and have this appointment without Paul there is there anyway that you could get me that picture so I could draw it?"
I almost laughed outright at this. She was asking for a picture of Quil but without really knowing it was him to begin with.
Sam sighed. "I'll see what I can do about getting you one. Though the wolves don't make scheduled appearances for anyone. So, it might take some time."
Jordan nodded accepting that. "Okay fine." With that she got out of the car and turned back to me as I got out.
"I'll see you over lunch Sam, you called the school about Jordan eating lunch during her health class?"
He nodded to me with a smile. "Be good both of you."
Jordan's POV
Paul walked me to my Quileute class before quickly kissing my cheek and watching me go in before I assume taking off to class himself. Seth and the teacher were both pleased on how well I had done on the sheets from the previous 2 days and she gave me some more work that would be a bit more of a challenge but she assured me that I could do it.
When the class was over, I was slightly grateful that language stuff made my brain hurt. I'd be happy tonight to have some help with it. But I was mostly done it anyway so another 20 minutes or so and I'd be finished it. Seth walked me to my locker and then we went to his and headed for English class. When we were at the door walking in Seth introduced me to Jared's younger sister, Johanna. She was in our English class and on our debate team which we were going to be bringing in front of the class on Monday.
It was nice getting to work together on what their thoughts were on the debate and ideas that can cripple the other side. Though about two-thirds of the way through class I realize that I need to go to the washroom. I turn to Seth. "I'm slipping to the lady's room. Be back in a few minutes."
He looked up at me worried. "I'll text Jared to come get you."
Johanna laughed. "Why do you need my brother to take you to the washroom?"
I shook my head. "Seth, everyone is just being overprotective. Nothing can happen to me inside the school walls. Let me go to the washroom alone." So, getting up I walk over to the teacher. "I need to go to the washroom."
Miss Anna smiled. "Of course. But when you return, I would like a word with you if that is possible?"
I nodded. "Sure." With that I turn the pass that she handed me and left the classroom. Seth was on his phone and I could only guess who he was texting on me.
It didn't take long for me to find the washroom, after going and splashing water on my face. The nerves were getting to me. Between this morning and what was coming up counselling appointment. When I got out of the washroom, Jake was leaning against the lockers across the hallway.
"Jordan!" He was over to me almost too quickly. "Sam, I believe told you to not go anywhere without one of us."
I nodded. "But Jake it was just the washroom, plus Seth said he was going to text Jared especially when we were with Johanna as well. She laughed at me." I glared at him before starting to walk towards the class again.
His hand was on my wrist twirling back around to look at him. "Jordan, listen that doesn't matter. We can have Jared speak to her about that. But this is serious, you don't walk around the school alone until this security problem is dealt with."
This is when something new happened. Well not exactly new, it had only happened a very few times and only with Rav. That part of me that usually powered my defiant side wanted to submit, but it was on the fence and I knew if I pushed it to the defiant side it would be powerful. I glanced up at Jake and I knew that there was glints of purple in my green eyes. "I should be fine to walk between the class which is 2 doors down the hall to go to the washroom alone."
He didn't back down though which was odd, even Sam backed off when I glared him with my glinted eyes, but Jake just squared his shoulders with me. He seemed to have more power than Sam Ulley had which was odd. "Jordan, if Paul knew you left the classroom without one of us, he will be very mad at Seth for not following you. And you don't want to piss Paul off when it comes to your safety." His voice was so soft it was deadly which had me nodding. "I'll speak to Seth about his choice to get Jared, but you had many others you could have asked for, so this one is on you. I'll keep it away from Paul, but you get caught once more and he will find out."
With that he released my wrist, nodding to the classroom. I ran towards the classroom door going into the room. Once I was in, I turned and glared at Seth he didn't have to text Jake, I was completely fine, the hallway wasn't that long, and I could see the classroom door from the washroom. But NO, he had to text Jake and get me in shit. Part of me wished that Paul was told about this then maybe just maybe he would get pissed at Seth and he'd get in trouble more than me. Going over to the teacher I nodded to her. "What did you want to talk to me about?"
"I just wanted to make sure you were feeling better."
I nodded, guess Sam hadn't told the teacher why I wasn't in class yesterday which was a bit of a relief to think about. "Ya much better, thank you."
She nodded and smiled. "You understood everything for the independent study alright?"
I nodded. "Though it says the firs report is due on Monday, is that going to be the same for me?"
She nodded. "Yes, though I don't expect you to have as many pages read of the book or your report to be as long as the rest of the students but I still expect a report to be handed into me on Monday, when you enter the classroom."
I smiled. "Alright, I'm going to go continue working on the debate stuff with Seth and Johanna." With that I walked away going over to them and hitting Seth in the arm. "You didn't have to text Jake that I was leaving the room without someone."
He gulped shaking his head. "I didn't, I texted Embry, hoping that he might be a better choice but it seems him and Jake are together this period maybe so he may have told him."
Simply shaking my head and glancing around. "Okay we have another 10 minutes left of class let's see what more we can get done."
We worked until the end of class then after wishing Johanna a good rest of the day we left heading to Seth's locker first this time, then to mine and then to Embry's where Quil was waiting for me.
When he seen me, he breathed a sigh of relief. "I am so glad you are coming to math today. I don't have to sit there and feel dumb while the teacher rambles on. Oh, by the way, I have spoken to her and she is going to give us our work for the day then we can go to the library to work on it. That way Paul can just come and pick you up there. Isn't that wonderful."
I placed my head in my one hand and shook it. "Quil, to your surprise I do prefer to work in the classroom cause sometimes the teacher's explanation is nice to hear. But I can for sure help you with the work if you want to sit in the back corner together. And I'll keep an ear to the teacher the entire time we are doing this."
"Oh fine. At least I get some help." He laughed as Embry and Jake took off for their next class and Jake gave me a glance and a meaningful one at Quil.
"What was that look about from Jake to you?" I asked as we started walking.
"Oh, it has gone around that Jake had to leave class to go meet up with you after you left the classroom without any of us. Paul seems pretty pissed about it as well as pissed that Seth would let you do that and not follow you out."
I nodded. "Alright, well the only time I plan to leave math is when we have 10 minutes left and Paul comes to pick me up so you don't have to worry about him being mad at you for me leaving you this time."
We walked to the math class and headed to the back of the classroom where there was a round table to work on things in a group.
Jake's POV (rewind)
We were sitting in Quileute when Embry's phone went off. After he read it, he passed it to me his phone with a grim look on his face. It said:
"Embry help me. Jordan left to go to the washroom without letting us call someone. Can you go check on her?"
I huffed. "Text him back telling him I'm going to go corner her. Sam told her not to go anywhere without one of us with her."
I walked out of classroom with a slight glance at the teacher before leaving the room. When I got to the washroom, she was in so I decided to lean up against the lockers across the hall. When she came out we had a conversation that left me slightly scared as I had to use my power on her quite harshly to force her to agree with me about a few things, namely that she didn't want us to come with her to the washroom. And I knew at the end of it that I was going to have to inform Paul as well as Sam that she had disobeyed the rules.
When the conversation was done, I decided to pay a visit to her math teacher to inform her that Jordan was not to leave the classroom without Quil or Paul when she was there. She was very agreeable when I explained that it was just a matter of Jordan's safety and that I couldn't explain more than that. But with her missing the day before it was just thought that it had something to do with that issue.
By the time I made it back to class I texted Paul and Leah as well as everyone else that Jordan had indeed left her English class without one of us and we needed to be extra vigilant about watching her and her leaving the classroom. I did warn Embry about it and he assured me that when they were in health class that if she left the room that he would be sticking very close to her and that Leah had a spare the second last period and Jared had it the final period so they would both be around so this afternoon she wasn't going to be breaking the rules.
When we met up with Quil before their math class I explained to him that Paul did know about it too as I had sent him a separate message asking him not to be pissed off at Seth that he had texted one of us immediately after it happened or rather as it was happening so it was okay. But it was slightly surprising when he didn't meet Jordan between her classes with us but Quil straightened the idea out. Saying that he had gone on a little patrol before having to pick Jordan up with 10 minutes left of class and that she tended to be calmer when he had just shifted so it would hopefully help with her counselling appointment this afternoon.
