Paul's POV

We were both asleep at least until Jordan woke me up. She pulled me outside to see that there was a wolf out there in her back yard. Well, it was Embry sitting there acting all cute in front of us. Until a howl sounded in the distance towards the beach, and he took off.

She yelled out loud, "NO YOU CAN STAY!"

It took me a few seconds to realize that she had actually spoke and then was curled up on her side holding her throat. I picked her up and carried her into her bedroom, pulling out my phone trying to desperately to figure out who to call. I finally decided to call the SRU hopefully her father would be around there and able to tell me what to do.

'SRU Seattle, Winnie speaking how '

"Winnie, I need to talk to Sam Braddock immediately."

'I'm sorry he is busy right now can I take a message?'

"No there is a problem with his daughter, is anyone around?"

'One second, Ed is right here.'

'Ed Lane, who am I speaking to?'

"Paul, one of the 2 that was with her the other morning."

'Okay Paul, I need you to take a deep breath for me. And then tell me what happened to Jordan.'

"She woke me up to go outside. But she had gone to bed had gotten some sleep, then woke up and we went out. Then something happened she yelled, then collapsed holding her throat."

'Wordy, can you call Spike and Lou and have them get over to the house? Paul, I need you to leave Jordan for a few seconds and go to the door and unlock it.'

"But she needs me here. I can't leave her in her room alone."

'Paul listen to me. If you don't go and unlock the door then Spike and Lou won't be able to get into the house. She will be fine for a few seconds, don't worry.'

I looked down at Jordan, she was so still it scared me. But I slowly got up and made my way to the door. Very quickly unlocking it before running back to her bedroom. "Okay it is unlocked now."

'Okay, Paul, can you check her pulse for me? Do you know how to do that?'

I nodded forgetting that he couldn't see me. "Ya I can give me a second." I counted in my head watching the seconds pass. "Ed, something is wrong it is like at 20. That is bad isn't it?"

All I heard next was cursing and orders being yelled out at people. 'Paul you need to tell that to Lou when he gets there. He should be there in a few minutes. And then you need to call someone to be with you while you wait for Rav and Sam to get there. I have to go.'

With that he hung up and left me sitting with Jordan on her bed. But only for a few seconds until both Spike and Lou came into the house. I went to stand up only Jordan had an iron grip on my hand so I couldn't really move. "In her bedroom." I yelled down the hallway to them. Lou was the first one in the door. "Ed said to tell you that her pulse is 20, then he started yelling orders around and said to call someone to be with me for when Sam and Rav get here."

Lou nodded. "You should probably go make that call."

I looked down at my hand, Jordan had traded her death grip from my hand to my shirt which she had bunched in a ball in her fist. "Um would love to. However, her hand is stopping me slightly."

Lou looked at the situation. "You apposed to making the call from here. I shouldn't be long with what I have to do then she should relax a bit."

I shook my head grabbing my phone, thinking for a second. Before making a snap decision and scrolling to Embry's picture and hitting it.

2 rings later and he answered. 'Paul, you shit. I'm trying to sleep.'

I laughed for a second. "Hey be nice now. Can you come over to Jordan's place? I need someone and I can't think of anyone better. Jared won't understand what is happening and you might be the only one around who could help."

'Ya man. You need me to drive?' He asked.

"I'm not sure, but if needed we can take my truck. If this is something that there are going to be issues with, I have a feeling I'm going to be waking Emily and Sam to help as well."

'Okay. I'll run over, give me 5 and I should be there. Front door?'

"Ya it's open." With that I hung up glancing down at Jordan who seemed to be sleeping more peacefully than she was before.

Lou nodded to me. "Let's talk out in the living room. I'm sure you have a few questions that you want to have answered."

I nodded. "Does Sam need to know about what has happened?"

Spike looked a little grim. "I think he should know what has happened. I mean this will more than likely affect at least the next few days of her life. No doubt effect Saturday."

A few seconds of sitting in the living room Embry walked in the door and over to me. He had thrown on a t-shirt and had a pair of cut offs on. Spike glanced between the two of us for a second. "I'm not the one you thought he'd call?"

Lou shook his head. "I mean I know you and Jordan share a class but other than that I didn't think you and Paul were all that close."

Embry nodded putting a hand on my shoulder. "True, usually in a situation like this Paul would have probably called Jared. Though I am suspecting this is going to cause some issues with Paul staying calm which is why he would have called me in the first place."

They both nodded as to us, turning to me for a second before Lou started. "Paul, what exactly happened? I had to give her more than expected, she yelled while she was out there by the looks of things."

I nodded, glancing over at Embry. "She did yell." I let my head fall into my hands. "Why would she do that if she knew this would happen?" I got up walking towards her room only to have Embry at my back his hand on my shoulder when I made it to the door.

"I know this is hard man. I couldn't even imagine what I would do if that was my girl laying in that room like that. But you need to keep your head on straight right now, especially if her father is going to be here."

I nodded taking a deep breath looking over at Spike and Lou. If they could hear us, I'm glad Embry hadn't used any words from the pack. "Ya, I know that. But what happened? Why did she collapse? And why did she have the death grip on me?"

Spike glanced at Lou for a second before pointing to the couch. "What happened is the medicine that she takes in the morning had worn off. She was in severe pain using her vocal chords the way she did to yell whatever she did. Her collapsing is because of the pain, though it takes a lot of it to bring her down something like that will each and every time. As for the death grip I don't understand that; it has never happened before."

A second later Lou's phone rang, and he put it on speaker in the center of the living room table that was there. "Ya, Sam what's up?"

'Listen, we have been trying to get a hold of Sam Ulley, but we haven't been able to. With what has happened I fear what everyone could be having to deal with on Saturday. I was wondering if Paul had another number for him?'

I glanced over at Embry. "We can make a call; did you want to meet there instead?"

Embry already had the phone to his ear talking quietly so I knew he had probably called Emily's cell phone which Sam wouldn't have given away to anyone.

'Yes, but I don't just want to show up there.'

I laughed for a second, worst case someone would be passed out on the couch but if Sam was home for the night then he no one should be there. "Sam said it was okay. Emily is going to get up and make us all something to eat and coffee. We can head over there right now." Embry piped in as soon as he was off the phone and close enough to us to actually talk normally. "I wouldn't worry about not being able to reach him. I called Emily's cell to get a hold of them."

'Jordan can't be left alone for this time.' Rav spoke calmly to all of us.

I glanced up at Lou and Spike who were both sitting there. They both nodded. "Sam we will stay with Jordan until you are done. Don't worry about her."

'Sounds good. We will be there in about 15 min, Paul make sure you go tell Jordan you're leaving but will be back. Trust me, especially if she pulled out the death grip on you, she will know if you leave the house.'

I nodded getting up and making my way towards Jordan's room. So, she has done a death grip on someone before today. I gently ran my fingers through her hair, we would only need about 5 minutes to get to Sam's. I grinned looking at the pile of elastics sitting there and braided it down her back. "Jordan, I have to go over to Sam's place for a bit. I'll be back though soon. Spike and Lou will be here while I'm gone. I have Embry with me, he laughed when he found out you wanted him today instead of Quil and he argued that he could have come and then gone to his meeting." Placing an elastic at the bottom of her braid, I tugged on it a bit. "See you in a bit, I'll try to convince your father to let us sleep together when I get back." Kissing her forehead, I walked out of her room and to the living room. "You ready to get going?" I looked to Embry.

He nodded to me standing up, "Sure, bet Emily is making muffins." He grinned at me as we walked out the door. "So, Jordan really did want me this morning." He laughed.

I shrugged. "According to Jared she did." I paled not wanting to tell him why she had wanted to talk to him. "I mean Jordan said that to me as well."

Embry smiled as we got into the yard. I headed for the woods for a second just glancing around, eyes scanning the area.

Embry's hand on my shoulder held me in place. Holding back those scared feelings which has managed to bubble up on the walk over here. "I know I'm the one who caused this, for that I am sorry. But the look on her face was adorable."

I nodded back to him. "I know it was. She was so happy to see you, I think that is why she woke me up was to show me that there was a wolf in her back yard."

"Did you want Jake here too? I think it might help having another member of the council present if we are discussing changes to a counselling appointment." He suggested. "You know as well as I do how hard those are to get changed and approved, and we both know Jake will be the easiest to convince."

Glancing at Embry I was shocked. "I know it would be hard to convince Sam, but do you really think Jake would go for it."

He nodded. "He is the best shot we have." Embry was pulling out his cell phone for a second before pushing me towards the house. "Go get me some coffee oh and one of those muffins. I'll wake grumpy from his nightly slumber."

I nodded walking towards the house. I could hear Sam talking to Jordan's father and Rav inside the house. Embry was at the edge of the woods just chatting with Jake waking him up and asking him to come over to Sam's to help us with this. Opening the back door, I breathed in the wonderful scent coming from the oven. On top of the oven, I spied a plate of chocolate chip cookies. Jordan would love a few of these, but I'd have to hide them. Taking 8 and putting them on a plate and putting it into the freezer I glanced towards the living room.

"Paul, I seen that." Emily scolded me.

I shrugged looking innocently at her. "They are for Jordan tomorrow for our date." I smiled pouring myself a cup of coffee and one for Embry too. "Embry wanted me to save him a muffin."

She pointed to the living room. "They are in the living room. What is he doing outside anyway?"

I just shook my head walking into the living room having a seat on the love seat that was there. I figured that might be the best spot for me to be as it would mean me having the ability to have Embry beside me while we talked. "Embry is calling Jake. We figured if there was going to have to be a counselling change then we'd need at least 2 council members here and we both thought Jake would be the best choice."

Sam nodded at me. "That's okay," He turned to Jordan's dad and Rav. "So, this has happened before I take it?"

Rav nodded. "A few times. She did it a few times when we were in Toronto. It usually happens by accident. She'll have a nap and then forget that the stuff has probably worn off and tries to talk or worse yell about something at someone."

Jordan's father looked at me. "Do you have any idea what she was yelling at?"

I paled looking over at Sam for a second just as Embry came in from the kitchen. "Ya there was a wolf in the back yard. One of the tame ones that roam around the reservation. But when a howl sounded the wolf took off and Jordan yelled at it that it could stay."

"So, she was upset?" Rav asked.

Embry nodded. "Probably was, I mean she has asked for Sam to have the wolf she seen on Monday be around for her time here on Saturday."

Jordan's father gapped at Embry. "Were you there?"

He shook his head. "Nope, but I know about the deal for the wolf on Saturday. We all do. There is a bet going around as to how much effort Sam is going to have to put in to make it stay in his yard all day while the girls are in here cooking."

Sam groaned. "Yes, well that bet needs to end now."

Both Embry and I raised our hands in surrender. "It was Jake who started it." I said as Jake came through the door, glancing around the room and then having a seat next to Sam.

"What's happening? All I got was a call from Embry to get my ass over here because you needed another council member." Jake looked at Sam.

He nodded. "Yes well. From what I have heard Jordan's appointment on Saturday might need to be changed slightly."

Jake nodded. "What about the date tomorrow night?"

I stood up. "Oh no. That is not being cancelled."

Embry's hand was on my arm. "Paul, sit. I doubt they will cancel the date and have to deal with Jordan complaining."

Rav rubbed his chin. "Actually, we won't be cancelling the date. We are just going to put a few restrictions on it if that is alright?"

I nodded. "Ya, that's cool."

Jordan's father glanced around at all of us before settling on Sam. "Okay, so you'll need to stay around here. I know you'll be driving her from the station to La Push but once you are back on the reservation land you are to remain on it. And it will be going from the station to here."

"Is the beach okay?" I asked. I didn't really want to hang out with Sam and Emily all night.

Rav glanced at Jordan's dad and shrugged. "I can see one problem with the beach."

A low growl left my lips before I could stop it. "Then where can we do? We don't want to hang out here, everyone will be here. And your place you all will be watching us."

Rav put his hand out stopping the rest of my yelling. "Paul, would you calm down please? Sam here is just a little nervous. Nothing like this has ever happened without him around and he is slightly overreacting."

I nodded glancing at him. "I didn't intend on this happening. It just did. I'm sorry she is hurting."

Rav nodded. "I'm sure she is feeling fine now. But what I was going to say is maybe we can talk to Sam and Emily here about it being a triple date instead of a double one. If that fails Jared, I believe lives next door to Jordan, am I right?"

He waited for us to nod in affirmation before he continued with what his idea was.

"Then I am suggesting you change the location of your plans to his place. Provided he doesn't have any younger siblings who would be there to pester you guys. If there are, I'm sure we can come up with a viable solution."

I shrugged. "I know he has a younger sister. And I know she will more than likely be around for part of the evening as well as his parents. We wanted sometime without adults around, which is why we wanted to go to the beach."

Rav nodded while looking between Sam and Jordan's dad. "Okay, like you wanted to have a picnic at the beach?"

"And make out session." Jake coughed out.

Embry threw a pillow at him from behind his back. "Dude, be nice."

Rav laughed. "Oh, we all know they like to kiss don't worry. How about this compromise then? You guys can go for a picnic dinner at the beach. But then you return to Jordan's place for a movie night. We will keep Sam preoccupied for the evening, that way she will be at home and you'll have access to a list of numbers in case something happens."

I thought about it for a second, then nodded hesitantly.

Embry glanced at me. "What has you concerned?"

I shrugged. "All of this. I mean the last time the side effects didn't even show up. But this time you are all panicking again." Grabbing another muffin out of the bowl. "What could possibly happen that has both of you so concerned?"

Jordan's father met my eyes for a split second. "You aren't affected by her purple eyes at all aren't you, Paul?" When I shook my head in response he continued. "Very few people aren't. That death grip she had on you is her trying to hold onto something that will keep her calm."

I nodded. "Okay so that still doesn't explain why you are so concerned right now."

Jordan's dad looked at Rav, who continued. "It is rare for Jordan to do that with someone she has just met. I get it you two have a connection, and it happens to be a strong one. Sam is just being overprotective of her."

I sighed and nodded. "Alright, we will have a picnic and then go for a movie night over at Jordan's or Jared's place. If his parents and sister aren't going to be home, we might just chill there for the evening anyway. We weren't planning on really doing anything much anyway."

Everyone nodded, before Sam glanced around the room clapping his hands. "Alright, now as much fun as this has been. Jake came over to discuss the issue this is going to cause with her counselling appointment which is set up for Saturday."

Rav gulped and her father looked pale. "I know you have hopes to have this happen on Saturday, but she might down right refuse. It won't be her fault though."

"Won't be her fault. She has skipped them, stayed quiet for them, and downright refused to be liking them period. If this one is cancelled, which is a plan I didn't like to begin with, then I think it might be time for some more drastic actions." Sam huffed.

My mouth dropped open, eyes focusing on Jake for seconds before he shook his head at me. "Sam, we both" gesturing to both Embry and I "did worse things far more often than this before you threatened more drastic actions."

He nodded. "Yes, but I was able to look into Jordan's past. Her past history with counsellors. This happens quite a bit, so that is my final offer. Saturday happens or she is removed from school and any other social event until she is deemed safe to be around people."

My head fell into my hands, taking deep breaths trying to hold onto my human side. 'Jordan needs me to stay human. We need to cuddle tonight. I need to warn her that she has to at least try to attend on Saturday. I lifted my head eyes focusing on Jake's. "What if she tries, like really tries and it just is too hard. Can we try something else? Like maybe Embry or I being here with her."

Sam shook his head. "Paul, my ruling is final. Saturday happens as it is set up or we go to the next step. I know both you and Embry have spoken to Jordan about your time."

Embry shook his head. "Actually Sam, I haven't had a chance to yet. And so, I probably won't until Saturday, which would cause an issue with the timeline."

Jake hung his head. "I only told Jordan about Embry's situation slightly. No real detail and he had his appointment today which prevented him from joining Jordan this morning which she did ask for. She was trying but Jared knowing about the appointment refused to ask."

Sam slowly nodded, glancing at Emily. "You think you can handle prep a bit alone on Saturday if Jordan was to go for a walk with Embry to discuss his time?"

Emily nodded. "Yes, and I won't be alone. Leah will be here, if they want, they could even do it in the yard."

Embry shook his head. "I mean, Sam you know you and Emily are awesome and all. But I don't want to have this conversation where anyone or everyone can hear it. Just give us 2 more times after Saturday from what Paul said if this fails then she has a deal with Rav that will come down and my understanding is that the situation won't be too pleasant."

Sam glanced at Emily for a second who shrugged, while Embry glanced at Jake. It was Jake who spoke up first. "I think it would help convince Sam of this if he knew what would happen to Jordan if she chose to remain quiet again during Saturday."

Jordan's dad shrugged. "I truthfully don't know what the exact deal was, it was a deal between Rav and Ed and Jordan."

My eyes turned to Rav. There was a small chance that this might just work to convince Sam to let us have another fail if this didn't work, but only if he knew what this deal, she had with Rav was.

"I can't tell any of you. That was part of the deal, that it would remain between her, Ed and myself what would happen if she did this again." He took a breath. "Telling you, any of you, would invoke it which I'm sure no one here wants." He glanced at this phone for a second before grabbing it and dialing a number on it. "Hey Spike, how much work do you have for Jordan tomorrow?"

"So, if she wanted to have breakfast with Sam and Emily that would be okay?"

"Okay, thanks man. We should be back in about half an hour."

"Oh, wow. She has. Did you give her the stuff?"

"Okay, yes. We will make sure he comes over with us."

His eyes met mine as he hung up the phone. "You told Jordan you would snuggle with her all night?"

All eyes were on me. "I didn't know she could hear me; I mean you said she was sleeping and just to let her know that I was going to be gone for a bit."

Her father laughed. "Well, she can hear and understand you. But since you promised her that I will allow it however all clothes must remain on and her bedroom door is to remain open."

I nodded, before Embry, turned the conversation back to Rav. "So why did you call Spike?"

Rav nodded. "We built in a loophole into the deal. Not one that would allow her to get out but one as an escape if something like this ever happened. If you want to know what the deal is then she can tell you and it won't invoke it. Spike said he can start the stuff on Baby cakes in the morning if Jordan needs to do this."

I looked over at him. "Why am I sensing a but?"

Rav smirked. "Well maybe because there is one. If you do this Jordan will need a ride to the station. So, the deal is this. You go for your meeting, while Jordan explains everything to Sam here and then you drive her down to the station and you hang out with us while she works on Baby cakes."

I nodded. "If that is what it will take to get her another chance then so be it."

Sam raised a hand. "As much as I like the idea of knowing what will happen if when she gets here, and I clear everyone out if she doesn't want to say anything about this?"

Rav shook his head. "Explain to her that you are willing to give her the get out of jail free pass. She'll know what that means if she explains to you about our deal. I know there will be a part of her that will want to use that, I just hope it is bigger than the part that is alone right now."

Sam nodded to him. "You best be getting back to her. I need a word with Paul for a second then he will follow you soon."

I glanced over at Embry, "Could you go and tell Jordan I'm just dealing with something with Sam for a few seconds."

Embry nodded, placing a hand on my shoulder. He knew what was going to be happening between Sam and myself over the next few minutes.

Rav glanced between us. "If we land there without Paul it might not help the situation back at the house at all."

Embry turned to Rav, "Don't worry he will be around in a few minutes. Sam just needs a word with him about all of this. Plus, this will give Jordan and I a chance to talk about my situation with counselling." He turned shoving Jordan's father and Rav towards the door. "Keep this quick."

I nodded towards him. "I'll be right behind you."

When they left Sam glared at me, "Outside NOW!"

I ran outside going for the woods. "I'm sorry Sam." I glanced back towards the house.

"My authority is final on things. I know she is your imprint but maybe you should see what has happened in the past with her previous counsellors. In Toronto alone she went through 8 of them in the 6 years she was there." He placed a hand on my shoulder. "I know you don't want to see her kicked out of school. But right now, I'm literally being left with very few options. Be thankful this is a reservation, and I can make these rulings. The last one she seen had said if this happened again, she should be forced into an institution because she is such a danger. From everything I've read she has been rather calm around here lately. I'm just worried what will happen when she does explode, she could do some serious damage to someone."

I nodded. "She trusts us though which is a good thing, we need her to stay trusting you and everyone here and going against that by pulling Saturday away won't help any of us."

He nodded, rubbing his chin. "You best get to her. Last thing I need is an angry imprint even if she doesn't know what she is yet over here demanding to see you."

I laughed taking off for her house.

Rewind

Embry's POV

Rav looked as we got into the truck. "I promise he will be right behind us."

Sam shook his head. "We land there without him and she is going to go looking. All the training we have won't be able to convince her to stay in the house. She has a one-track mind right now and something is pulling her towards Paul."

I nodded. "Well then we wait outside, or you let me go inside and talk to her."

Rav nodded. "Can I ask you a question?"

I laughed. "Well, you just did but I'm assuming you have another so go ahead."

He laughed easing the tension in the car. "Why did Paul call you tonight?"

I breathed. "Well, if it has anything to do with counselling and convincing Sam or Jake, I'm his best shot at convincing either of them along with him. Paul and I have had a rough time with counsellors around the reservation and when we joined up with Sam, we pushed every button he had. So, we know what is fair between us. How far we got before Sam pulled that card or even played it in my case. But sometimes you don't want your best friend there to see you break down. You want someone who will sit there and hold you back as you're ready to punch something because your temper is about to go off on your soon-to-be girlfriend's father." I looked up meeting Sam's eyes in the rear-view mirror.

"Was he really that close?" Sam asked as we pulled into the driveway.

I shrugged. "He is a hot-tempered mess most of the time which I'm guessing is the situation with Jordan normally?"

He laughed. "Well, that would be putting it mildly. She has a violent temper which comes out most often when her eyes go purple and stay that colour for an extended period of time."

I nodded. "But being together seems to help the two of them. Jordan has calmed Paul quite a bit and the only time since they met that he almost went off was at Jared when he was getting pissed at Kim for her doing something to Jordan."

We got out of the car and went for the door. "Jordan is going to be wanting Paul but maybe if you wanted to talk to her in her room about your situation that might help. You can shut the door."

I nodded. She was at the table with her hair still braided. "Hey, can you talk yet?" I asked leaning over stealing a piece of cheese.

She shook her head pulling out her phone typing something really quick before a mechanical voice read what was on her screen. 'No Lou is being a dumb dumb ass and won't give me it. Says it too early for it and I should go to bed and forget about Paul.'

I laughed as her father's face grew angry. "Jordan Harrison Braddock, those words are not to be said in the house."

She just stuck her tongue out at him and turned to me and typed on her phone again. 'Where is Paul? He said he'd be back' the mechanical voice read off her screen.

"He is dealing with something with Sam. But we thought this would be a great time for you to ask some questions of me. I know Jake told you part of my story."

She glanced up at me and took the last piece of cheese placing it into her mouth before getting up and walking for the door. She grabbed the keys to her father's SUV before placing her hand on the door looking back towards us.

No one moved, glancing between the 4 men in the room they just stood there and stared after her as she opened the door and walked outside.

"Aren't you going to stop her?"

Rav and Spike shook their heads. "We can't, she will just turn her eyes on us and without being able to speak we can't help her."

Shaking my own head, I took off after her, finding her in the car in the driver's seat crying. I knocked on the window causing her to jump. When she opened the door, she was sitting so still. "Did you want me to take you back to your room?"

She nodded, obviously sleepy from being up part of the time. She pressed something on the phone, and it said through the speaker of the car. 'I want to see the wolves, again.'

I laughed. "Maybe after we talk a bit I'll see if we can get one to come by again. If not maybe at breakfast tomorrow morning you can go out back and play with a few of them."

She looked at me as I carried her into the house, dropping the keys in the bowl and walked towards her bedroom. "Now, so Jake told you about the fact that I have to go see a counsellor too and Jared said no to me coming over yesterday because of the appointment with Sue. Which I don't understand I could have come over, then gone to the appointment then come back."

Spike stood in the doorway of her room. "She couldn't be left alone yesterday with her being sick it can get very bad."

She growled at me and pointed to the doorway. I laughed. "Sam said I could shut the door and we could talk for a bit."

Spike held up a syringe. "It's 4 am, Sam said you could have this if you wanted it?"

She just nodded holding out her hand taking the syringe and emptying it into her mouth. I sniffed the air and found that Paul's description of the stuff he had yelled at everyone the other day was right it does smell like Jake's feet.

"What's so funny?" She asked glancing up at Spike. "You can leave now Spike."
