"Sam, get back here!"
Jason heard as he walked the hall of the space station. He saw a black-haired little boy running towards him. He reached out and grabbed the arm of the boy to stop him. "Hey, where are you going?" Jason asked the young boy. The boy looked up with dark blue eyes. He could tell this boy was going to be heartbreak when he was older.
"Nowhere," The boy looked behind him. Jason looked up and saw the boy's parents making their way over to him. The boy looked just like his father expect for the faint ridges on his head. He must have Klingon blood in him.
"Thank you for grabbing him," The mother smiled up at him. Jason could see that she was pregnant with her second child. The mother grabbed the boy's hand. "Sam, you don't run from Daddy and me," Sam only smiled at his mother. His mother finally looked up at him. "Jason Draco."
Jason smiled when he recognized the mother. "Selena Paris."
"Yeah," She placed a hand on her round stomach.
"Selena, are you okay?" Jason looked up and saw the man that was with Selena. He could see what Selena fell in love with him.
"Yeah, Stephen, this is Jason Draco," Selena turned from him. "Jason this is my husband, Stephen Parker,"
Stephen Parker eyed him up and down. He held out his hand. "Hi," Jason saw that he was trying to be nice for his wife's stake.
"Hello," Jason took his hand. Jason had heard of Commander Stephen Parker. He was a great first officer and climbed the ladder of Starfleet. Jason didn't realize that he was married with a child and that his wife was pregnant with their second.
"How do you know Selena?" Stephen gave a tight smile.
"Stop it, Stephen," Selena elbowed her husband. "Jason is an old friend from my childhood. Our mothers are friends. How is your mother?" Selena asked Jason.
"She is good. Retired and spending more time with the grandkids," Jason smiled. "How is your mother?"
"She is good," Selena took a breath. She needed to sit down. "We should have dinner tonight to catch up," She suggested.
Jason smiled. "That would be great," They agreed on to where to meet before leaving each other.
"How well do you know Jason Draco?" Stephen asked. They had gotten back to Selena's quarters. He had just put Sam down for a nap and they were sitting on the couch.
Selena laughed. "Jason is an old friend and he was my first kiss," Selena smiled as she remembered that time. She got in so much trouble because she wanted to be with him. She was grounded for two months once they got home from her mom's conference.
"What?" Stephen hissed.
Selena laughed at her husband. "You have nothing to worry about," She patted him on the leg. "The last time I checked I married you and that little boy in there," She pointed to Sam's room. "Is yours. And this is yours," Selena pointed to her round belly. Stephen growled. Selena leaned over and kissed him. She broke the kiss and let out a yawn. "I'm going to lay down for a second," Stephen nodded and helped his wife up and to her room. He lay down beside her.
Jason watched as Selena came into the room with her husband and son. They looked like a beautiful family. Stephen was holding Sam while holding a hand on Selena's back. Jason wondered how she felt with his hand on her back. It seemed that she expected it.
"Jason," Selena hugged him. "Let's sit," She pulled out a chair at a table for four. He took a seat next to her while Stephen settled Sam in a chair. Stephen reached over and whispered in Selena's ear, and she nodded. Stephen left to get food for them. "So, what is going on in your life?"
Jason told her that he was a commander of a ship and was hoping to be made captain one day. Jason watched as Stephen brought the food to the table and put food on a smaller plate for Sam. He made sure that Selena had food, too.
"Are you married?" Selena asked.
Jason smiled. "Divorce. She didn't understand what it meant to be married to a Starfleet Officer."
Selena nodded. "Any children?"
"A daughter, Mary," Jason smiled. He loved his daughter and always loved to see her when he could. He wished he could be more a part of her life, but he was always working. Selena nodded. "How did you meet your husband?"
Selena saw the change in the subject. "He walked in my sickbay, complaining of an upset stomach." Selena gave her husband a look. "It was history after that."
"I had to almost died for you to go a date with me," Stephen said. Jason saw a sparkle in his eyes, and he knew how much this man loved his wife. Selena rolled her eyes at him.
Dinner ended with them talking about their families and what was going on in them. Jason was happy that Xavier was married with two children and happy about it. He told her of his sister and her husband and how they are doing.
"We have a sleeping child," Selena looked over and saw Sam in his father's arms, sleeping.
She smiled at Jason. "I have to get this little one home to bed, but don't be a stranger while you are here," She stood and followed her husband out.
Selena heard her computer going off after they got home from dinner. She looked up and saw that it was her mother calling. Selena answered the call. "Hi, Mom."
"How are you feeling?" B'Elanna asked. Selena took a seat.
"Good, I am ready for him to be here," Selena patted her round belly. "Any day now."
"Is Stephen there?" B'Elanna asked.
"Yes," Selena laughed. "He is putting Sam to bed right now," Selena glanced to make sure that Stephen wasn't around. "I ran into Jason Draco today."
"Lisa's son?" Selena nodded to answer her mother's question. "How is he?"
"He is good," Selena looked around to make sure that Stephen wasn't around. "Stephen was jealous of him."
B'Elanna laughed. "Your father was the same way when we ran into an old boyfriend of mine's."
"Really," Selena could see her father doing that.
"Yeah, and we were dating for a while. I told him he had nothing to worry about, but you know your father," B'Elanna laughed.
Selena laughed along with her mother. "Oh," She felt the first pain. "Mom, I love you, but I think that it's time for this little one to come."
"You'll do fine. I love you and your boys," B'Elanna hung up on Selena. Selena had a feeling that she was going to tell her father that they were going to have another grandchild soon.
"Stephen," Selena hissed for her husband.
"What?" Stephen came out of Sam's room.
"Your son is coming," Selena started to pace the room.
Stephen took a breath. He had done this before and knew what to do. The only thing that is different is Sam. "Who is going to watch Sam?" He asked his wife.
"The Hanson's. They are next door to the right," Selena let out another breath. Stephen nodded and ran out of the room. He came back with Mrs. Hanson, who smiled at the couple. She took a seat on the couch with a PADD.
"Go and have your new son," She waved them off.
Stephen went over to Selena's side and helped her out of the room. They had no problem making it to Sickbay. The doctor on shift got Selena ready while they called the midwife to come. It didn't take her long to come and help Selena bring her baby boy into the world.
Jason was walking past Sickbay to see if Selena was working, and he could tell her that he was leaving soon. He stopped in the doorway and saw that Selena wasn't working but lying in a bed, holding her new baby. Stephen was there with Sam. They looked like a happy family that Jason didn't want to intrude on. He turned on his heel and walked out of Sickbay.
"Hey," Jason turned around and saw Stephen making his way over to him. "I saw you and I sure that Selena would like to show off our new son."
"No, you all look so happy," Jason glanced back at Sickbay.
"I'm sure now we do but not a few hours ago," Stephen smiled. "When Selena was yelling at me for getting her pregnant. I'm sure you remember how it was."
Jason shook his head. "I wasn't there when Mary was born," Stephen nodded, he understood that some Starfleet personal couldn't make it to the birth of their children.
"I'm sorry," Stephen said. He didn't know what else to say.
Jason shrugged his shoulders. "So, what did you name the little guy?"
Stephen smiled. "Saxon Thomas Parker."
"I good strong name," Jason turned to walk away so Stephen could get back to his family. He heard that Stephen was heading back to Sickbay. Jason took a breath before turning around to Stephen. "How do you do it?"
Stephen stopped in his tracks and faced Jason. "Do what?"
"Have a family and an amazing career," Jason made his way over to Stephen.
"Sit," Stephen pointed to the bench that was behind them. Jason took a seat and watched as Stephen took a seat next to him and let out a sigh. Stephen let out a laugh. "I thought that I was going to be single for the rest of my life when I entered Starfleet. I knew that there were Starfleet officers that had families and make it work, but I didn't think that it would be me," Stephen pointed to Sickbay. "I met Selena, and I knew that we would be together forever.
"I don't know how I do it. I make my family my first priority and I let the captains I work under know the same thing. I thought that I was going to be made captain by forty, but I'm a father of two now. If there is a way, I will find it. I know one day I will be captain but right now I'm okay being called Dad."
"What do you do?" Jason asked.
"About what?" Stephen asked.
"Making your family first," Jason looked back at Sickbay.
"When I'm not with my family, I call every night just to talk to them. I ask my four-year-old about his day and any change I can get I spend time with my family. It was easy at first because Selena was running after her own dream, we didn't count on children and Sam was here before we knew it. The moment that I knew Selena was pregnant with Sam I saved my time so I could be with my wife when she gave birth and to be there after. I got to spend two months with Selena and Sam. I get to do the same Saxon."
"You are one lucky man," Jason said. Stephen nodded. "Take care of your family." Jason stood. "Congratulations on Saxon. Tell Selena I am proud of her." Jason started to walk away. "You should ask Selena how long she was grounded for when we were together," Jason smiled again before walking away.
Stephen sat there and watched the man. Stephen wanted to tell him that he could do the same, but Jason was going to have figured it out on his own. Stephen got up and went back to his family. He watched as Selena was telling Sam to be careful with Saxon. Stephen stepped up to be with his family.
