Xavier entered his parents' house, he wanted to show them the bracelet that he had made for Peata. He was going to ask her to marry him. They have been together for four years. Xavier would have asked her sooner but every time that he brought up marriage, she would turn and walk away from him. She never gave a reason why she didn't want to get married, because he knew that she loved him. He wasn't going to let her go. If she didn't want to get married, he didn't care because he loved her too much.
He found his parents in the living room, watching some old movie that his dad had found. "Mom, Dad," Xavier said. They turned around with looks that could kill. Xavier was glad to be their only son, or they would have killed him for interrupting them and their movie. "Sorry," Xavier raised his hands in surrender.
His parents smiled. Xavier didn't know if he believed it or not. "Sorry, we weren't excepting anyone."
His dad narrowed his eyes at him. "What brings you here, son?"
"I wanted to show the bracelet that I'm going to propose to Peata with," Xavier pulled out the bracelet box and opened it. The bracelet was diamonds and emeralds. In the center of the bracelet was a big diamond.
B'Elanna took the box away from him. "It is beautiful."
Tom looked over his wife's shoulder at the bracelet. "Is that the diamond from the ring you got from your grandfather?" Tom looked up at his son.
Xavier smiled. "Yes," Xavier took the box from his mom.
"Good luck," B'Elanna smiled.
"Thanks," Xavier all of sudden the nerves got to him. "I'm going to need all the luck I can get."
"Are you afraid that she is not going to say yes?" B'Elanna looked at her son.
Xavier sighed. "Every time that I bring up getting married, she walks away and doesn't tell me why when I ask about it."
B'Elanna and Tom traded a look. They had seen the two of them together and knew that they loved each other. They had wondered when the wedding would be taking place, but year after year, nothing. "I'm sure she has her reason," It was all B'Elanna could say. She didn't know what else to say.
Xavier nodded and left his parents to enjoy their movie. He went home to the apartment he shared with Peata. He noticed that she wasn't there. He knew that it was his turn to make dinner. He picked up his PADD to see when Peata would be home. He saw that he still had a few hours. Xavier thought that tonight would be the night he asked Peata to marry him.
Peata came home to candles lighting her apartment. There were two candles in the center of the table. She took a moment to locate Xavier and couldn't find him anywhere. Peata saw roses in a vase, there was a note next to it. The note said that she should proceed to the bedroom. Peata went to the bedroom to find a new Bajoran dress. She went and took a shower before putting on the dress. She stepped out of the bedroom and found her boyfriend, putting the final dish on the table.
"What is the meaning of all this?" Peata asked.
Xavier smiled. "Can't I do something nice for my girlfriend," He kissed the side of her neck. He helped her sit. He took a seat too.
Dinner was great. Peata was trying to figure out why Xavier was so nervous. She wondered what was going on with him. "Peata, I love you and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?" Xavier took out a rectangle box and opened it. Inside the box was a beautiful diamond and emerald bracelet. Tears came to Peata's eyes.
She knew this day was coming with Xavier asking about getting married. Peata stood and wiped her eyes. "No," She ran for the bedroom.
Xavier watched the bedroom door for second before closing the box and making his way to the bedroom. "Adrian Peata, why won't you marry me? I love you and I know you love me, so why won't you marry me?"
Peata opened the door part way. "We both want children, and it could be hard for us."
"Why?" Xavier said. "I know it would be hard for us, but we try and if that doesn't work, we can always adopt."
"You are Klingon and human and I am Bajoran. I know humans and Bajoran have had children but," Peata opened the door fully.
"I have Klingon blood in me," Xavier said in a soft voice. Peata nodded. Xavier took her in his arms. "Why don't we talk to someone and see what they say?" Peata nodded again. "I know someone." Xavier kissed the side of her head. "I still want to marry you even if we can't have children," He looked at her in the eyes. "I love you so damn much that it hurts. You are the woman I want to see when I'm an old man and barely see."
Peata laughed. "I love you too. I can see that picture now of you as an old man," Peata wrapped her arms around him. Xavier growled that had Peata laughing. Xavier picked her up and took her to bed.
"Why don't we say maybe on the engagement until we hear the news?" Xavier said as he laid over her.
Peata nodded. "Okay," She pulled him down on her.
"I'm nervous," Peata said as they entered the doctor's office. Xavier pulled her close and kissed the side of her head.
"Everything will be fine," Xavier gave their name to receptionist behind the desk.
They were told to take a seat. Xavier reached for her hand and held on to it. They didn't have to wait long before they were called back. "Hello, Mr. Paris," Xavier smiled at the doctor that was a hologram, but he was a great doctor.
"Hello, Doctor," Xavier smiled at the man.
"Take a seat, Mr. Paris," Xavier jumped on the bed. The doctor pulled out his medical tricorder and ran it over Xavier. "How are your parents?"
"They're good last time I checked," Xavier told the doctor about what his parents were doing while the doctor worked.
"You are all done, Mr. Paris," Xavier jumped off the bed. "Your turn, Ms. Adrian," Peata got on the bed. The doctor ran his medical tricorder over her. He didn't say much to her, even those they had met before this moment. There was a smile on the doctor's face. "You can step down, Ms. Adrian."
The doctor stood before them with a smile on his face. "Have you been sneezing a lot, Ms. Adrian?" The doctor asked.
Peata was confused but answered the question. "Yes, I think it has to do with allergies. The seasons changing in San Francisco always been a problem for me."
"Well sometime next year there will be a reason for sneezing," The doctor smiled.
"What are you saying, doctor?" Xavier was just as confused as Peata.
"You are going have no problem having children," Doctor said.
"How do you know that without running more tests?" Peata asked. She thought that he would have many more tests to run before he would say that.
"Because Ms. Adrian, you are pregnant and I'm sure Mr. Paris is the father of your baby," The doctor said. The couple looked between them and smiled. Xavier took her in his arms and hugged her to him.
Xavier pulled back. "How far along is she?" He placed a hand on her stomach.
"I say about five weeks," The doctor leaned back against the bed.
Xavier and Peata stepped out of the office with the biggest smiles on their faces. Xavier stopped in front of the bench at a park. He made Peata sit down on the bench. He pulled out the box that held the bracelet and opened it. "Does this mean you'll say yes?" All Peata could do was nod. Xavier took out the bracelet and put it on Peata. Xavier leaned over and kissed her. "I love you."
"I love you, too." Peata leaned her head on Xavier shoulder. "We are going have a baby," Peata placed a hand on her still flat stomach. "It is going to be a girl."
Xavier placed a hand over hers. "Yes. When do you want to get married?"
"Soon, I don't want to be a balloon in our wedding pictures, and I want to do it before the baby gets here or we are not going find the time to plan the wedding."
Xavier nodded. "Okay, what about in a couple of months. It will give your parents time to get here for the wedding. What kind of wedding do you want?"
"A Bajoran wedding. We can do it at the Bajoran temple and have a reception in your parents' backyard." Peata said.
"I like it. I think we should go and tell our parents that they are going to be grandparents," Xavier stood.
Peata nodded and stood with him. She lanced her arm with his. "My parents first," She said as they headed home.
"Hello," Peata's parents appeared on the screen. "Peata," Peata's mother smiled. "Is everything alright?" Her mother asked.
Peata smiled. "Yes, Mom. I just wanted to share some news with you and Dad," Peata's mother gave her a look before her father into the room. Peata smiled at her father as he told a seat next to her mother.
"What is going on?" Peata's mother asked. She looked between Peata and Xavier.
Peata traded a smile with Xavier and lifted her wrist. "Well, I want to say that Xavier and I are engaged."
Her mother screamed and hit her father in the arm. "Our daughter is getting married."
"I can see that, Doare," Peata's father mumbled. Xavier and Peata hid a smile.
Doare threw her husband a look before looking at the engaged couple. "When are you planning to get married?"
"In a couple of months. I already talked to the Bajoran temple, and they said that they can do it," Peata took Xavier's hand. "We would really like you to come if you can make it."
"Don't worry about us. We'll find a way there. We will bring your brother and sister, too." Her mother said.
Peata smiled at her parents. "We can't wait to see you."
Peata watched her father stand. "Peata, are you forgetting the other news they would like to hear." Xavier said. Peata smiled at him. She knew that they had planned this.
"What other news?" Doare asked.
Peata leaned back in her chair and placed a hand on her stomach. "We are going to have a baby."
"Oh, my prophets," Doare said. "We are going to be grandparents," She turned to her husband. Tears came to Doare's eyes. "Our first grandchild. Do you know the sex of the baby?"
"Yes," Xavier traded a look with Peata before answering Doare. "We are going to have a girl."
"I can't wait until we meet her," Doare said. Peata and Xavier nodded.
Peata looked at her father to see how he was taking the news about being a grandparent. "Dad," She said.
"I am happy for you both," Her dad said. "Congratulations on both. Welcome to the family, Xavier."
Doare looked at her husband. "He's been apart of this family since the moment Peata brought him home."
They soon hung up with her parents. Xavier smiled at Peata. "I think that we should go and tell my parents now."
"Now," Peata looked at the clock to see that it seven at night. "This late."
Xavier nodded. "You know your mom is going to call mine to talk about the wedding and the baby." Peata nodded and sighed.
"Alright," Peata said.
"Mom, Dad," Xavier yelled in his parents' house.
"Really," Peata hissed at him.
B'Elanna came out of her study with a PADD. "What the hell, Xavier?"
Xavier picked up his mom. "Peata and I have news for you. Where is Dad?"
"In his study." B'Elanna said.
Xavier let his mom go. Xavier ran to the basement stairs. "Dad, come up to here."
"What is it, Xavier?" Tom ran upstairs.
Xavier pulled Tom towards the women. Tom looked at his wife like he didn't know what was going on. Xavier came and stood by Peata. Xavier traded a look with Peata. "First things first, Peata said yes to marrying me."
B'Elanna and Tom came over and hugged their son and future daughter. "That is great," B'Elanna could see how happy the couple was.
"There is other news," Xavier looked down at Peata's still flat stomach and placed a hand on it. "We are going to have a baby."
Tom and B'Elanna traded a look. They were going to have another grandchild. They already had three grandchildren from Miral and D'stil. They hugged the couple one more time. "We can't wait to meet the newest member. Do you know what you are having?" Tom had a big smile on his face. He had a feeling that he would be seeing this grandchild more than the others.
Xavier smiled. "A girl."
"When are you getting married?" B'Elanna said. She stirred everyone to the living room to sit and talk about the changes in their lives.
"In a couple of months," Peata took a seat on the sofa. "I want my parents to be here."
"Is that enough time for them to get here?" B'Elanna asked. She had met Peata's parents and knew that they would want to be here for that.
"We hope so," Xavier told his mother.
"So, what do you have planned?" Tom asked. They spent the rest of the evening talking about plans for the wedding.
