Kira noticed that D'jono was ignoring her whenever she was home. He would be doing something with his cousins or out on the town. She hasn't seen him since they had that conversation in the garden. She had thought that he wouldn't be on her mind. She shouldn't care that she didn't see him because she was thinking about the academy and what her future was going to hold in Starfleet. She had no time for boys right now in life.
Kira made her way through the quiet and dark house. She knew that she could ask the computer to turn the lights on, but she liked walking in the dark. She knew the house very well by now. B'Elanna had messaged her that she and Tom were taking the kids to something in town and wouldn't be home. B'Elanna didn't say anything about what D'jono would be doing. She wondered if he would go with his grandparents and cousins.
Kira was making her way to the kitchen to get something to eat. She thought that she had ran into a chair when she felt D'jono's hands on her arms making sure that she was steady. She let out a hiss she had felt his body against hers. She could tell that he was lean, but he had some muscle on him. She wondered if it was from his Klingon training. He pushed himself away from her.
"Sorry," He let out of her arms. Kira liked him touching her. "I should have turn on a light."
"No, I should have done the same," Kira sighed.
"Computer turn on lights," D'jono said to the room. The lights in the family room and the kitchen turned on.
Kira saw that he was in only pants. He must have been working out with his bat'leth because he was holding it in his hands. She wondered if he had used that in the holodeck or was he outside. She made sure to glance at his face and not at his well define torso. He was also barefoot. She heard her heart beat a little faster. She moved around him.
"Would you like something to eat?" Kira made her way in the kitchen.
"No, do you know where my grandparents are?" D'jono asked.
"They took your cousins out for the night. I thought that you might have gone with them." Kira turned to the replicator and ordered her food. "Are you sure?" D'jono nodded. D'jono walked passed the kitchen heading for the basement.
"I'll leave you," D'jono mumbled louder enough that she heard him.
Kira had enough of him. "Why are you ignoring me?" She yelled after him.
D'jono turned to face her with a fire in his eyes that she had never seen. "If I spend any time with you, I'm going to want to kiss you and I can't do that."
"And why is that a problem?" Kira had to set her plate down.
D'jono made his way over to her and stood very close that their noses could have touched. "You have the opportunity to love who want. I don't. I don't want to be the only lover for you," Her hair had fallen in her face again but D'jono moved it out of her face and behind her ear.
Kira could feel her temper raising. "You don't know me," She hissed.
D'jono backed away from her. "You're human. You don't understand."
"Last time I checked, you have human blood in you, or you wouldn't be here," Kira waved her hand in front of her to the house. "At your grandparents' house on Earth."
"I was raised on Q'onoS," D'jono frowned.
"You're a coward," Kira said.
D'jono stepped closer to her that they were almost touching. "I am not," He growled at her.
"You won't let yourself love because you are worried that we would be stuck together for life. It that such a bad thing." Kira lowered her voice.
"No, but you might have to quit Starfleet because we are together," D'jono said. "And what if you met the love of your life and wanted to be with them. I would stand in the way of that."
Kira had to take a breath. "You don't know what will happen in my life."
"I know but I want you to have your dreams come true and I won't stand in the way of that." D'jono backed away from because her scent was getting to him.
"People can have more than one dreams," Kira said.
D'jono smiled. "Kira, live your life to fullest and remember me always," D'jono moved away from her and headed for the basement.
Tears started to run down Kira's face. "Damn you, D'jono," She mumbled before taking her plate of cold food now to the back patio.
Neither D'jono and Kira heard the front door open and the other residents of the house came in. Riley and Brice made their way to their room and didn't notice the tension in the room. Tom and B'Elanna traded a look. "What did we just walk into?" Tom asked.
Tom had come up for a cup of coffee when he saw his grandson, working out in the backyard. Tom had told him that he could have used the holodeck but D'jono didn't want to use it. The rest of the house was quiet with B'Elanna taking Brice and Riley to the academy with her for the day. Kira was at Starfleet doing her internship. Tom took his coffee and made his way to the back patio. He stood on the patio watching his grandson with the bat'leth. D'jono looked up after some move that Tom couldn't remember the name of. He knew that his wife and son would know the name.
"Grandpa," D'jono let out a breath. "Is there something I can do for you?"
"I was wondering if we could have a talk," Tom took a seat at the patio table. D'jono took a seat next to his grandfather and took a drink of the water bottle that was sitting on the table. "How are you doing?"
D'jono shrugged his shoulders. 'I don't know. I still don't know what I want to do with my life. It seems that everyone I know knows what they want to do with their lives. Did ever have that feeling?"
"I wanted to join the Navy, but my father had other ideas. So, I joined Starfleet."
"Do you regret that?" D'jono asked.
"No," Tom smiled. "Maybe at the time I did, but I think that my life turned out good."
"Famous holo novelist," D'jono smiled.
"I just liked writing stories, but what I'm most happy about is my family. I don't think I would have had this family if I didn't join Starfleet and be discharged. I would have never met your grandmother and fell in love with her. We wouldn't have this family. You wouldn't be here." Tom sighed. "You don't need to have all the answers right now. I didn't when I was your age. That's great that your siblings have their lives planned. Your mother was the same way." Tom smiled. "You want to hear a story of your mother." D'jono nodded.
"Your mother didn't know that she was going to be diplomat until she met your father. She knew that there was attraction with him. She wanted to find out what was between them, and I have to say that she did." Tom smiled.
"I always thought that Mom had everything planned for her life. She made it seem that way," D'jono looked away from his grandfather for a moment.
"Your mother was always that way even growing up. It got her where she wanted to go," Tom smiled as he remembered a four-year-old Miral with her hands on her hips, telling him something and almost had him convinced. It is no wonder that she is a diplomat.
"Do you think that I should follow Mom's footsteps or Dad's?" D'jono asked.
Tom shook his head. "I think that you should follow your own steps and see where life takes you. You know that your parents would love you no matter what," Tom said. "Like ask a certain girl out." Tom threw that in there. He noticed that Kira and D'jono were avoiding each other. Tom was ready to call his friend Harry Kim and throw them on a ship where they couldn't avoid each other.
D'jono gave his grandfather a look. "No, she has her life planned and I want to give her a chance to live it the way she wants too."
"And what if she wants you," Tom said in a quiet voice.
"She'll never be able to have a career in Starfleet if I was her mate," D'jono narrowed his eyes at his grandfather.
"Then that is a choice she is going to have to make and not you," Tom said.
"Can I ask you a question?" D'jono asked. Tom nodded. "Let's say that Grandma in her first year of Starfleet academy and she had dreams of being in charge of all of engineering in Starfleet and you were in the Navy academy at the time. And you were home for the summer, met, and spent the summer together knowing that you were going on different plans. What would you do?"
Tom had to think about that. Life would have been different. He doesn't think that he would be the same person and B'Elanna wouldn't be the same person. They would be younger, but if he only had a summer with her, he would enjoy that forever and it they were meant to be together they would find a way. "I know that I would try to take a change with your grandmother and see what your grandmother would do. If she put a stop to it, I know that I would love her forever. But maybe we would met again in the future." Tom took a breath. "Don't let your life pass before you while you are trying to figure it out," Tom thought that it was best to leave D'jono with that thought. He hoped his grandson would make a good choice.
"He is kind of cute," Kira turned around to see B'Elanna standing next to her. Kira almost dropped her coffee cup. Kira was looking out the patio doors and drinking some coffee. She thought about playing it off, but both women knew that Kira would be lying. Kira was watching D'jono workout with the bat'leth. He was shirtless and Kira could see sweat rolling down his back.
"I don't know what you are talking about, I was watching his movements with the bat'leth. It was something I never seen," Kira lied.
B'Elanna raised an eyebrow at the young woman. "Really, what was your favorite?" She asked.
"The one where…" Kira tried to think of a move that D'jono did but couldn't think of anything.
B'Elanna smiled. "You don't have to explain to me I know all about looking at someone you find attractive. I remember a few times I would just watch Tom."
Kira turned and walked back in the kitchen. She saw that the kids were gone. "At least you got to be with him," Kira placed her cup down on counter.
"What is my grandson doing?" B'Elanna asked. She had seen D'jono and Kira avoiding each other.
"He thinks that he might ruin my life if we get together," Kira frowned. "He is blaming it on how Klingons mate for life. I'm not asking for forever, but he thinks that it will be. Can I just feel his lips on mine?" Kira started to pace the kitchen. B'Elanna thought that she might have to say something, but Kira continued. "Why is he so stubborn?"
"He is his father's son," B'Elanna stopped Kira by taking her arms.
"How?" Kira asked.
"Selena never told you the story of D'stil and Miral," B'Elanna smiled. Kira shook her head. "There was an attraction right away between D'stil and Miral when they met for the first time. Miral beat him up in front of the other children when she was seven and he was nine," B'Elanna let out a laugh. "About ten years later, we were visiting my family when Miral ran into D'stil again. He was trying to avoid her, but she cornered him and asked why he was avoiding him. D'stil told her and so told that they could only be friends. They were friends for many years before Miral took the step to be with him forever."
Kira smiled. She had met D'jono's parents and could see that happening. "You raised strong women. They go for what they want."
B'Elanna looked at Kira. "I think that your parents did the same thing. Just not everyone gets into Starfleet." Kira blushed. "If you want my grandson than go for it. Take your future by both hands."
Kira looked out the kitchen window at D'jono. He was wiping the sweat off his face. Kira looked at B'Elanna before heading outside towards D'jono. He looked up when he saw her. "What…?" He asked.
Kira didn't let him finish his sentence as she took his face between her hands. She leaned up and kissed him. D'jono dropped his bat'leth on the ground. He placed his hands on her upper arms to push her away, but Kira pushed into him. D'jono's hands left her arms and wrapped around her waist to pull her closer to him. D'jono deepen the kiss when he knew that he should push her away from him, but she felt so good in his arms. He would love to taste her more but they were in his grandparents backyard.
D'jono stepped back and pushed her way. "You shouldn't have done that," He said after he got enough air to his brain.
Kira smiled a satisfied smile. "We both want each other. You can take me out on the town tonight," Kira turned away from him and headed for the house.
D'jono let out a growl and knew that going out tonight was a mistake. "Be ready at seven," He yelled after her.
Kira had the biggest smile on her face as she entered the house.
"You look nice," Riley said as Kira made her way downstairs. Riley and her brother were sitting in the family room watching a movie that their grandfather thought that they needed in their life.
"Thank you," Kira smiled at Riley.
"Where are you going?" Riley asked.
"I don't know, your cousin didn't tell me, only to be ready at seven," Kira looked at the basement stairs waiting for D'jono to make his way up.
Kira didn't have to wait long before D'jono made his way upstairs. He saw her and thought that she looked beautiful. He took a breath before making his way over to her. "You look beautiful," He said.
"Thank you," Kira smiled. "You don't look too bad yourself," It looked like he was wearing human clothes and not something Klingon.
"D'jono smiled. "Are you ready to go?" Kira nodded. They headed for the door.
"Have her back by twelve," Tom yelled after them.
D'jono and Kira didn't hear what was said because the door closed behind them. There was a transporter waiting for them. D'jono helped Kira in the transporter. Kira settled in her seat. "Where are taking me?"
D'jono gave a rare smiled that she hasn't seen in while. "You are just going to have to wait and see," The transporter started to fly.
Kira watched as the transporter flew over San Francisco and the bay. They landed in a front of a restaurant. D'jono helped her out of the transporter. D'jono led her in the restaurant as the transporter flew away. Kira looked around the place as D'jono gave them his name. The host led them to their table. The place was good for quiet conversation. They spent the evening talking about their plans for the future and about their childhood. D'jono told Kira that she should visit Q'onoS, that she would like it.
After dinner they had time to walk the valley before the transporter came to pick them up. They rode home holding hands. The transporter dropped them off in front of Tom and B'Elanna's house. There was a light on in the house. D'jono wondered if his grandparents were still up or did they leave a light on for them.
D'jono stopped them at he door and watched as the transporter fly away. "I hope you had a good time?"
"I did," Kira smiled. "Thank you for a wonderful evening," She leaned over and kissed him on the cheek. "See we can go out and not have it mean anything," Kira was about to open the door when D'jono grabbed her arm stopping her from entering the house.
"It meant more than that," D'jono growled.
Kira raised an eyebrow at him. D'jono pulled her closer to him. D'jono took her lips and kissed her until she let out a moan. Kira wrapped her arms his neck. D'jono placed his hands on her waist and held her close until she was flushed against him. Kira could fell his hard body pressed against her. D'jono broke the kiss and pulled Kira away from him. Kira had to catch her breath.
"Always remember me," D'jono said in quiet voice.
Kira nodded. She didn't know what else to do. She had a feeling that she wouldn't be kissed like that ever again. She knew that D'jono wouldn't let it go any farther. She took one more look at him before opening the door, D'jono followed her in. Kira made her way upstairs to her room before touching her lips. Kira knew that any man she dated now, she was going to compare them to D'jono.
There was a transporter waiting for Kira and D'jono. It was going to take them to transporting station. Kira was going back to London while D'jono was going on a ship that was going to take him back to Q'onoS. Kira hugged Tom and B'Elanna.
"Thank you for having me," She smiled at them.
"It was our pleasure," B'Elanna said. She watched D'jono say goodbye to his cousins. Kira went over to talk with Riley and Brice as D'jono made his way over to him. B'Elanna noticed that they didn't say a lot to each other after their one date. She knew that something happened but neither one said anything to her or Tom.
"Thanks for taking me in, Grandma," D'jono smiled at B'Elanna.
"Did you figure out what you wanted to do with your life?" B'Elanna asked.
D'jono looked away towards Kira. "I think that I did," He said before turning back to B'Elanna.
B'Elanna wanted to say more but D'jono turned to his grandfather and said his goodbyes. Tom made sure to tell his parents that they miss them and to come and visit them. D'jono nodded before picking up his bag and heading for the transporter. Kira soon followed him on the transporter. As the transporter flew away, Riley and Brice went back in the house. B'Elanna lanced her arm through Tom's as they headed back to the house. "Do you think that they will figure it out?"
Tom glanced up at the transporter before looking back at his wife. "I don't know."
