Summary:
Family day is here, and with it comes intense feelings and warnings
Izuku was at peace, and he refused to move. The early morning sunlight streaming across his face couldn't even rouse him. His bladder, on the other hand, might make him move soon. He opened his eyes and took in a rare early morning sight. Todoroki was laying on his back next to him, one long arm wrapped around his shoulders as he was on his side, Izuku's head resting on his chest. His legs were bent and tangled with the other pair of legs sharing his too small bed. Todoroki must have accidentally fallen asleep in his room, they had been up last night talking about their family, how excited they were to see them today.
His heartbeat was a drum beneath his ear, chest rising and falling in time with his steady breaths. Slowly, he reached a scarred hand over, catching a few strands of silk like hair between his fingers. Todoroki, being a bit of a light sleeper, woke with the slight movement.
Izuku looked up and into dual colored eyes and the warmest of sleepy smiles, a sight he would never tire of waking to.
"Morning," a sleepy voice breathed into his hair as he leaned over to kiss the mess of green curls.
"Morning," he replied as he stretched out his cramped limbs, leaning up to capture Todoroki's smile with his lips. He loved to surprise him early like this; the soft, sweet kisses. Because when he pulled away after a few moments he smirked at the blush going across Todoroki's face, and as he caught his breath he had a bit of steam coming from his mouth.
"C'mon," Izuku started as he stood up, turning away from the bed to get his clothes for the day. He heard Todoroki move around as he stretched his arms above his head, and smirked as he felt fingers trace over his abdomen as he was pulled backwards into his boyfriend's chest. He felt a pair of lips ghost along his neck. "Mmmm. Todoroki, I love you, but if either of our mothers see a hickey we will never hear the end of it today." He felt the other boy stiffen as he stepped out of his embrace. "I'm going to get a shower, see you when I'm done."
Shoto was quiet as he slowly picked at his late breakfast, so lost in his own thoughts he didn't notice the dining room empty around him. He finally looked from his plate when a hand rested on his shoulder. It was Uraraka.
"Hey, Todoroki, people are going to start arriving soon, we could use help setting up the tables."
"Sure," he got up, putting his mostly untouched food in a container in the fridge, ignoring the concerned look from her as he walked with her to the courtyard. "Where's Midoriya?" He asked when he didn't spot him among his classmates outside. It was almost noon, and the weather was just getting warm enough to hold the event outside.
"He went with Yaoyorozu to get more chairs, and to see about a few heaters for later." She informed as she effortlessly lifted a table, he wasn't sure if she was using her quirk or not, either way he helped her get the legs into place. After setting several more tables up in silence she spoke up again.
"What's wrong? You're quiet." Her question confused him.
"I'm always quiet?"
"Not like this. Normally, you're quiet but you still pay attention. Right now you're quiet and lost in your own head. If you need to talk I'm here."
Shoto thought over her words as he helped carry out food, maybe heshouldtalk to someone. When he went into the kitchen to get a drink she was there chatting with Yaoyorozu over tea, which meant Midoriya was back, somewhere in the dorms was the person he couldn't get out of his head.
"He said he loved me." He saw the look of confusion on both girls' faces slowly turn into understanding as they both squealed.
"What did you say?" Uraraka demanded, her voice just a little too loud, drawing the attention of the other girls who were in the dining room.
"I didn't get to reply, he just walked out of the room and I haven't seen him since." There was a chorus of sighs and 'oh nos' as Yaoyorozu lead him to the table with all the girls, and as she poured him a cup of tea he began to talk.
As Izuku waited at the school doors he let out a loud, painful sounding sneeze.
"Bless you," Aizawa said from beside him, offering him a tissue from the pack he kept in one of his pockets.
"Thanks, Sensei," right then he sneezed again, so loud even Kamanari flinched. Due to increased security there was a group of them waiting at the front of the school to escort the families to the dorms once they cleared the security check point at the gates. He smiled as he saw the first group of people approach, his mother leading them, her smile blinding.
As she got closer he noticed it, she was shorter than the last time he saw her.
"You're shorter!"
"You're taller!" She laughs, the top of her head barely reaching his chin.
"Of course Midoriya is the only one to not notice he's had a growth spurt." Kaminari whispers to Kirishima, not being very quiet about it. Now that he thinks about it he has been hitting his head a lot, and his pants were a bit short, but he had thought that was just because they were old ones.
"I've got this group, Aizawa-sensei," he informed as he lifted his mother off the ground in a hug. Looking over her shoulder he looked at the rest of the group. Todoroki's family showed up, his mother taking Endeavor's place due to his work taking priority. Even Hawks was there, carrying his infant daughter. What looked to be Tsuyu's parents, two preteens looking around in wonder close to them. Uraraka's parents he recognized, and they were chatting with an elderly couple; the woman had a familiar shade of pale lavender hair, they must be Shinso's grandparents.
As Izuku looked around he couldn't help the smile on his face. His mother was next to him, chatting with Todoroki's mother and Auntie Mitsuki over tea and cookies. On his other side was Uraraka's parents talking with Jiro's parents. Tsuyu's, Mina's, Sero's, and Ojiro's younger siblings were all running around. Jiro, Tokoyami, Kamanari, Kacchan, and Yaoyorozu were off to one side, taking requests to play songs.
The entire class was scattered about, enjoying this brief time with their families. Even a few not part of their class had come to join them. Eri, who was currently in his lap, and Mirio, who was talking with Hawks. Even Kendo was here, talking with Yaoyorozu's siblings. The whole dorm felt full of love and warmth.
He just didn't understand why Todoroki was avoiding him, or why all the girls either glared at him or looked at him and gave him a knowing smile. As the sun started to set and the music died down, everyone started moving around, the women next to him gathering their empty dishes as everyone made their way inside. At that moment Kamanari decided to open his mouth.
"Floor is LAVA!" He laughed as he heard the groans of his classmates, the surprised gasps from parents, the excited squeal from the younger children. He was standing next to his mother and Eri so he grabbed them and used his quirk to float a few meters off the ground. Looking around he saw everyone using their quirks in various ways to get off the ground.
Almost everyone was safe off the ground, everyone except the person who started this. Kamanari was standing on a chair, and in his haste to jump on it, it had started to tilt. The only thing keeping him from falling was Shinso's grip on his shirt as he stood on the chair next to him.
"Babe, please." The purple haired teen raised a brow at the blond's begging. "No no no no!"
"Perish," he deadpanned as he let go, the blond boys arms flailing dramatically as he fell backwards and was the only one to lose this round.
The adults laughed at their antics as they made their way inside, some saying their goodbyes as they had to leave. As it got darker more families left, soon the only people left was the Todoroki family, they had decided to wait for a car and not take the train as they had done this morning. They were still waiting after Izuku and the others had cleaned everything up outside, Hawks on his phone arguing with someone over the wait for a car.
Being the polite young man he was, said his goodbyes to them, Todoroki's sister even pulling him in for a hug. Her whisper in his ear was a surprise.
"Hawks wants to speak to you, privately. Go out on your balcony and wait for him. Please." He gave the slightest of nods, making his way upstairs moments later.
Izuku was tidying up his desk when there was a tap at his balcony door. He stepped out and saw a red feather waiting for him, he reached out only for it to fly up the side of the building. Using his quirk he floated the roof to find Hawks waiting for him.
"Midoriya," he could sense the unease in the hero's voice.
"Hawks," the cool night breeze had them moving closer to the wall. "You wanted to talk?"
"I wanted to warn you, as well as get some answers." The silence lasted for an uncomfortable period of time, and Izuku let out a long sigh as he leaned against the wall.
"Why the roof?"
"I'm going to be honest, and you aren't going to like what I say. I'm being watched. Tokoyami helped me get up here while avoiding cameras."That was an impressive feat, there were cameras all around campus.
"Who is watching you?"
"Twoveryinterested parties."So the HPSC and an unknown, the HPSC was always watching him.
"Why tell me?"
"Because if something happens to me I need someone who knows and will protect everyone. I can't risk my family. For some reason people trust you."
"I see. Do I know the second party?" He glanced over and locked eyes with Hawks, the pro giving the slightest nod.
"Do you still have that book I gave you?"Book, when did he give me a book? Oh no… The Meta Liberation nodded, Hawks having his full attention now. "That's good. Because the HPSC doesn't trust me, not about what I'm about to tell you."
"That would be?"
"Over the past six months people have gone missing, over a hundred different cases, and they have all been covered up. All different ages and sexes, but they all have one thing in common. They all have fire-based quirks."
"Why won't the HPSC listen to you, why bring this to me?"
"Because their top priority isn't the Meta Liberation Army like they let the public believe. Their top priority is your class, controllingyour class."
"How do they possibly think they can control us?" Izuku's voice went dark at the thought of someone trying to control his friends. Dark enough that Hawks stiffened at his tone.
"Their normal methods; promising fame, money, and if that doesn't work resorting to blackmail. What I want to know iswhythey want to control your class?"
Izuku didn't know the answer to that, and he looked up at the stars above them. Stars that his classmates; his friends and new found family, were constantly trying to catch. Trying to do the impossible. He remembers seeing an article online, years and years ago, about how All Might's class was the strongest to graduate from UA, simply because of him.
Things have change.
Sure, All Might was the standard of how pro heroes were measured, but All Might was no longer a hero, not technically. When it came down to it, his class was the strongest. They didn't rely on one person. One person can be controlled easily. Twenty rising stars, some who were more popular than some pro heroes, who have had years to form trusting relationships within their class. They would be hard, if not impossible, to control.
"Because we could rattle the stars if we dared," he whispered, more to himself than to Hawks. "They know it, and they're scared of us. We have the power and the popularity from the country to do anything if we truly wanted to, and for them to not have any power over us scares them. Scares them enough that they are making unforgivable mistakes, letting innocent people go missing." Izuku could feel his quirk dancing across his skin. "Is there anything we can do to help?"
"Stay safe and stay together." His phone rang from his pocket, and the pro left out a relived sigh at the message. "My car is finally here." His phone rang again, and his brows rose as he read it. "Shoto is looking for you? Did something happen, I noticed he seemed to be avoiding you today."
"I don't know what I did, but he obviously told the girls," Izuku grumbled as he tilted his head back against the wall. Missing Hawk's grin as he walked to the edge of the roof.
"Don't worry kid, I already told him to come up here, I've gotta go anyways." He heard the rustle of wings before he could even respond, before he could even get his thoughts together, the door flew open and Todoroki came out of it.
Just looking at the dual haired teen, Izuku could tell he was must have already changed for was wearing a pair of black sweatpants, one of Izuku's old All Might shirts, and Izuku held in a laugh at the mismatched slippers. He was holding the door for support as he caught his breath, little puffs of steam escaping his mouth. He took a step towards him, leaving the door open behind him.
"Todoroki?"
"I love you too!" He shouted.
"T-too?" Izuku felt the blush creep across his face.
"I love so much about you, the way you care about everyone, how you see the best in people. How you let Eri sit in your lap for hours because she's nervous. The fact your freckles still show no matter how much you blush."
"Todoroki."
"I love how fiercely you protect the ones you care about. How excited you get when you see a new hero in action. I love how," Izuku caught the other boy's face in his hands, forcing him to take a breath. "I love how looking into your eyes makes me fall in love with you even more."
"You've been talking with the girls, haven't you?" Izuku asked with a laugh.
"Have I been talking to- yes I was talking with all of them this afternoon, why?" The question derailed Todoroki's train of thought.
"Hagakure, get back inside right now or you're going to be locked on the roof!" He heard the shuffling of feet and called out to her as he closed the door. "If you recorded anything it better be deleted, this was private and you know it!"
Izuku turned to Todoroki, and noticed he was just a bit taller than him now, dual colored eyes had to look up at him. "Todoroki."
"Shoto," he corrected.
"Shoto," Izuku smiled. "I can't put into words how much I love you. All I know is that I do, and as long as you feel the same I will be with you." He heard the alarm on his phone go off, thirty minutes until curfew, and grinned. "I don't have the words but I can show you how it feels."
"Midoriya?"
"Izuku, and hold on." He grabbed Shoto around the waist, the other instinctively looping his arms around his neck, and shot off the roof. Shoto let out a surprised yelp, which then turned to laughter the higher they got. At their peak, or as high as they could go within school grounds, he moved a hand from his waist to brush dual colored hair away from his laughing face.
"I love you," Izuku whispered before capturing Shoto's lips with his own, and as he moved one arm from around his neck to his waist he started their free fall. Full of adrenaline from the fall; holding his world in his arms, not having to hide his feelings anymore, he couldn't be happier.
Over the last few weeks of break dozens of pictures went up on the wall. Pictures of everyone interacting with their families. Someone had managed to capture the moment Shinso had let go of Kamanari on the chair. One of Todoroki blushing as he sat at a dining table with the girls, the looks on their faces meant juicy gossip.
Then one moment Midoriya was glad was captured, despite him telling Hagakure to leave, she must have invested in a nicer camera to get this clear of a picture. His and Todoroki's free fall, the look of joy as they fell was priceless.
