This might be a chapter story, I'm not sure yet. I just has this idea and wanted to write it! I do have more ideas for it, so I'm leaving it open as a possible chapter story. I wanted to see an AU where Ellie and Abby had met back at Salt Lake and have a connection.

14-year-old Ellie Williams was sitting nervously on a hospital bed. Waiting for when she is going to be pulled into surgery. This surgery is to help mankind from the virus that has engulfed the world for 20 years. Dr. Anderson had explained the treatment to her and how in order to do this, she sadly needed to lose her life. This had given her a conflict. Whilst on one hand, she wanted to be the reason to save the world and end anymore tragedies of losing a love one to this virus. On the other, she didn't want to miss out on spending more time with Joel. Yeah that asshole can be a…well…an asshole; he was the closest thing to family to her since ever. Luckily, Dr. Anderson said she can think it over and decide what she wanted to do. She had talked to Joel on his opinion. Which was a mistake in some ways, because now he doesn't want her out of his sight. She thought about the conversation:

"We should just leave," He remarked. "Go back to Jackson. Pretend none of this shit ever happened."

"Joel," Ellie said. "It's not that simple! People are counting on me."

"Baby girl, you don't need to lose your life to help others."

"I still need time to process all of this." She walked out of the room.

Having that conversation didn't help shit in her opinion. She knew she had to make up her mind sometime today. God, she wish she can have a lifetime to decide.

Then her door opened a little. Crap, do they want me to decide NOW? A girl a few years older than her with a blonde braid came in with a tray of food.

"I'd figure you would be hungry with all of this waiting," she said, softly as she lain the tray on the table next to Ellie.

"Oh, um…thanks," Ellie replied, softly. The blonde girl sat next to her.

"So, have you decided?" Ellie sighed.

"No, this is so hard." She doesn't know why this girl is talking to her or why she herself is responding to her.

"If it's any help, my dad is the best surgeon in the Fireflies. Hell, he might be the only one…" She sorta giggled. "But, I could also be bias."

"Why are you talking to me?" The girl looked shocked at Ellie's comment.

"I figure you could use some support or even a punching bag."

"Who even are you?"

"Oh," the woman stuck out of her hand. "Abby Anderson." Ellie just sat there and stared at her hand; debating on shaking it. Abby could sense she was feeling uncomfortable and put her hand down.

"Why my whole brain?" Abby looked at her a little sadden.

"I'm not sure. My dad seems to think it's the best way to get the virus out with the immunity. I'm not sure to be honest, I'm not a doctor." She softly laughed. Ellie just sighed a confused sigh.

The door knocked as Dr. Anderson walked in.

"Hello, Ellie," he said with a warm smile. He nodded at Abby. "See you've met my daughter."

"Yeah…I guess," she slightly chuckled.

"So, have you decided?" Ellie kept looking around. Shit, she thought. She wasn't ready.

"I don't think I want to." She looked at him, scared he was going to get mad and force her to do it.

"Are you sure? This could help millions out there and stop the progression of this disease." He probably didn't mean it, but it seemed like he was guilt-tripping her.

"Dad…" Abby said.

"I know! I know!" Ellie started to raise her voice. "I just-I just can't. I want to be able to do more. I can't just wait or can't you just wait till I like die?"

"No…at least if we're trying to do it now. I mean we could wait, but it'll be better if done now."

"Dad, if she doesn't want to do it…"

"Abs, didn't you say you personally would do it?" Abby looked at Ellie and than back at her dad.

"Yeah, but that's me. You asked her for her decision and this is her choice."

"Well, if that's the case, Ellie; I'm sorry we couldn't agree on this, but if you do change your mind, please contact us." He walked out of the room. Ellie turned to Abby.

"Thanks." She slightly smiles at the older girl. Abby smiles back and puts her hand on her shoulder then proceeds to leave the room.

Hours later, Abby was helping clean the rooms of the supplies that wasn't going to be in use anymore. She went to the room where Ellie was and saw a piece of paper as she was cleaning it up.

Dear Abby,

I just wanted to say thank you for being there for me. I know it must've been hard to talk to your dad that way. I never had a dad so I assume that's not normal? I guess Joel is the closest to a dad I ever had so I guess I'll see as our journey goes on. I hope it's okay I leave you this note/letter.

We're moving to this settlement called Jackson if you ever want to come visit. It's in Wyoming. If it's okay with you, I'll send you a letter when I get there so you know when I'm actually there.

Again, thanks. Hope everything goes okay with you.

From, Ellie.

I kind of have ideas on future letters as I said this might be a chapter story. If you have any ideas what they can write to each other, let me know.
