12 years after summer's death

Ruby tossed and turned in her bed, murmuring in her sleep. Suddenly, she shot up and breathed heavily. Looking around, she sighed in relief. Know that she wasn't in any immediate danger, ruby laid back down and fell asleep.

NEXT MORNING

Yang glanced at her sister in worry, she hadn't slept well at all the past few days and it showed. The red reaper had bags under her eyes and seemed to be struggling to stay awake. Weiss was trying her best not to reprimand her sleep deprived leader.

"You sure that you're ok sis?" she asked. Ruby sighed. "No, I'm having those dreams again." She said resting her head on her arms. Yang pondered for a bit before her eyes widened. "I thought you stopped having them." the blonde said. "Me too." Came the muffled response.

"Dreams?" Blake asked. "when she was younger, ruby had nightmares of men in full-body black armor with emotionless expressions on their faces. Their skin were ash grey in color." Yang said. "This time they're ending the same way. With me strapped to an operating table, and an active drill approaching my face. A single line is spoken, but it sounds like a thousand people are speaking at once." Ruby said raising her face.

"What was it?" Weiss asked, now fully concerned for her partner's mental health. "You are damaged, we will save you. Prepare to be assimilated." The red reaper said in the best emotionless voice she could make.

Unaware to the four girls, 6 of 8 was watching them whilst cloaked. Hearing that one of the two children that the collective protected wasn't functioning properly was worrying. "the child known as Ruby is having trouble with her recharge cycle. Cause; dreams regarding the collective itself. Required action by collective: inconclusive. The drone transmitted.

6 of 8 watched the girls throughout the day and followed them to Vale. when they got back the ravenette classified as Blake was arguing with the white-haired girl classified as Wiess. "the children's colleagues are arguing about the terrorist faction white fang and species 78969. Subject known as Blake has revealed herself to be a member of species 78969. Required action by collective: dispatch drones to track Blake until retrieval. The command drone transmitted narrowing its emotionless eyes in anger at the Schnee.

"Blake, wait!" Ruby called out as her friend ran. Weiss huffed. 'good riddance.' She thought before the feeling of sheer terror swept over her. Despite it only being ruby, yang, and herself in the room. She couldn't shake the feeling of being watched.

"Does anyone have the feeling that we're being watched or is it just me?" she asked. "All the time." Yang deadpanned. "Good so I'm not… wait, what do you mean by all the time?" Weiss asked. "Remember the men in full-body black armor we spoke about?" the blonde asked. After receiving a nod, Ruby spoke up. "apparently our uncle Qrow and Yang's birth mom, raven both encountered one such person a few years ago. All it said was that my mother's last wish was for its kind to protect Ruby and I." Yang chuckled.

"when we mentioned men in full-body black armor, they turned ghost white." Wiess frowned. "That's not very reassuring Yang. If said person made them pale that bad… whatever was said to your relatives, terrified them to no end." She said

"At the time, ruby and I thought they looked funny, looking back now… I guess you're right." Yang said agreeing with the heiress. "anyways, tomorrow we look for Blake, no arguments or trying to get out of this Wiess. She's our teammate. we all will look for her." Ruby said in a tone her sister never heard before.

"Someone's cranky." Yang teased. "Of course I am. I haven't been able to sleep well. It'd be a lot worse if you were IN MY POSITION!" Ruby said as her voice slowly raised in volume. Yang backed away. "Easy, and yeah it would be." She said sweat dropping at Ruby's irritated expression.

6 of 8 watched as Ruby tossed and turned in her bed. While he didn't wish to fully interfere with the lives of Subject 508839's offspring, seeing the ravenette-red head like that made him feel something he hadn't felt since being assimilated by the collective; worry

The command drone made a decision. Decloaking, he silently approached Ruby's bunk. Ever so gently, 6 of 8 gently held Ruby's head in place before pricking her neck with a needle. Suddenly there was a sound of a shotgun priming.

"Don't move buddy. I knew you were watching us. What do you want with my sister?" Yang said. "No need for violence Yang Xiao Long. This unit was merely giving Ruby Rose a stimulant to aid her during her sleep cycle." 6 of 8 said removing the needle.

Yang watched as Ruby's restless movements ceased and the stranger gently tucked her under the blankets before turning to face the blonde. Yang's eyes widened.

"It's you. The guy that my birth mom and uncle described. The one who tried to save summer." 6 of 8 looked away having been reminded of the collective's failure.

Yang looked behind him to see Weiss stirring. "You should go before Weiss wakes up and screams in terror." The blonde said getting back in her bunk. 6 of 8 glanced behind him and saw the silverette stirring.

"Ah, the one you call ice queen." 6 of 8 said. Yang had to bite her hand to stop herself from laughing out loud. The command drone prepared to walk off and cloak, but paused to look at yang one last time.

"We are always near both of you. Your shadowy guardians. Have a pleasant sleep cycle Yang Xiao Long." 6 of 8 said before vanishing from view.

A/N: so ends chapter 2. As I mentioned in the previous chapter, these borg are unsure if the humans of remnant are able to be assimilated. I will say that the crew of the Enterprise-D won't appear for quite some time. Speaking of which, I forgot to mention in chapter 1 that I'm basing these borg's looks on both TNG-Era and Star Trek Online borg. The armor is based on TNG era borg whilst the weapons and head gear are a mixture of TNG, and Star Trek Online.

That's the best description I can give for the Remnant Collective. Yes, that's what they'll refer themselves as when Picard and crew arrive.

As always, read and review. That being said, peace.

Reviews:

Guest- I'm well aware you want RWBY Chronicles to return. And that's why I'm happy to announce that after a sad and disappointing near 2 ½ almost 3 year hiatus, production of chapter 9 for book 2: journeys is officially underway.
