"We know we can get in from here, but we can't leave from there, they'll be all over us by that point. That's where you come in, BA. You're going to come through the drainage pipe that you found and cut your way into the saferoom." Hannibal pointed to the makeshift map.
BA hadn't much liked the idea of going scuba-diving, but he had done as Hannibal had requested, only to run into a chain link fence. Just beyond that he had found an open area—too open—and then at last, the saferoom. It looked like a big metal box out in the open (definitely electrically charged), and BA decided that he could probably laser through it with a little time, and he had told Hannibal so.
"The room is electrified from the outside, but there will be a switch that Face and Murdock should be able to disable once they're inside, which means we need to time it perfectly. They should be in the saferoom by 12:00 sharp and that's when you can start cutting."
"What if they haven't gotten to the switch by then, Hannibal? The room is sealed tight, man, we won't have a way to talk to each other." BA voiced his concern.
Hannibal grinned at him and took the cigar out of his mouth, holding it out in a gesture towards the mechanic. "Well, on the bright side, you won't ever have to fly in a plane again!" He gave the classic Hannibal laugh, and added, "That empty plot in between the water and the room is definitely a mine field, so you'll have to figure something out for that as well."
BA glared at his leader and teammates, and Face just gave a nervous head shake, saying, "He's already on The Jazz."
"Face, Murdock, you guys are going to break in the normal way, Face will have the code we got from Amy's bill and open the safe, and Murdock will have the explosives on him to blow this slimeball's stash up with. You guys meet in the saferoom, light it up, and head out with BA. I've got a suspicion on where they're keeping Mrs. Parton, and I'll handle getting her out."
"Am I sitting this one out at the bar, then?" Amy asked, and BA noted that her usual spark held a little genuine nervousness.
"Nope. You're going to be the distraction. I'll explain it to you in a minute. For now, you guys" He gestured to his three men, "go ask the doctors' what kind of gadgets they might have that could help you with your missions." BA and Face nodded while Murdock gave an over-the-top salute, and the three of them walked over to the group of scientists who were talking animatedly with one another.
"We gonna need some of your machines for our plan." BA silenced them with his usual glare, and one of them, Ryan Karthall, jumped into action.
"Oh! Yes—what exactly do you need?"
BA explained his own situation and a few of the scientists began talking amongst themselves.
"That's all I need, but Face and Murdock are breakin' into the safe the other way and need stuff too." He looked at Face, who was patiently waiting his turn (he kept ogling at a beautiful young woman standing among the scientists) and he signaled for Face to explain their needs. Instead, Murdock immediately cleared his throat, speaking in a deep voice,
"Thees operation ees not going to be simple, and we will need seweral tings in order to pull eet off. Forst, we—"
"Shut up, Fool! What'er you doin'?!" BA mentally slapped himself for not making it clear he only wanted Face talking, and physically slapped Murdock, wishing against reality that it might smack some of the crazy right out of him. "These people ain't gonna help us with you talkin' like a crazy man!"
Murdock scowled at him, and Face broke the angered silence, holding his hand out. "Ah… Murdock and I are going to need something to help us with electro-charged flooring and walls, along with some other things as well…" Karthall signaled for BA to follow him away from the group, and led BA to a table piled with strange contraptions.
"I think this will probably be strong enough to get you through the saferoom walls, no sweat." He gestured at what looked like a fancy blowtorch with a handle, and then moved to another section of the table, sorting through several machines while he stated, "Now, the minefield is a different story. I think we can figure something out with a few of the things that we have."
BA glanced up at Face talking to the other scientists and Murdock standing at his side in sulky silence. BA would never admit it, but he did occasionally feel a little guilty for constantly being angry at his crazy companion. To be fair, Murdock didn't help his own case with all of his constant ridiculous antics.
In the middle of BA's silent train of thought, Murdock seemed to sense the eyes on him, and slowly and dramatically swiveled his own eyes and then his head to stare back at BA with a single eyebrow raised and a face full of over-exaggerated suspicion. BA quickly averted his eyes and began angrily helping Karthall search through the pile of machines in front of them.
No. Murdock definitely didn't help his own case.
"I think this is it!" Doctor Karthall pulled BA back into reality, and held up a small handheld device. In his other hand he held a bag full of more devices just like it. "See?" He pressed a button on the small black box and a little light on it started blinking. "You can use a metal detector to find the mines, and when you find one, put one of these flashers on it so you don't step on it. It will take a while to get through the mine field though, so make sure you have plenty of time for that."
BA was handed the bag full of "flashers" and Karthall finished, "We don't have a metal detector here, but someone is bound to have one at home that they can get for you." BA just nodded as the doctor headed back to his friends to ask around, wondering what kind of person would have a metal detector sitting in their garage.
This plan is almost as crazy as Murdock. Hannibal better know what he's talkin' about… BA thought to himself as he shook his head, following Karthall back to the group.
After a few more minutes of conversing, BA had secured all that he needed for the operation that night, and so had Face and Murdock, who was still acting like some kind of superspy.
The three of them walked together back to Hannibal and Amy, who seemed to have just finished their own conversation. Amy was looking rather determined, and Hannibal was focused on a blueprint layout of the casino that Face had stolen earlier that day. He glanced up when he heard them approach, and said,
"Get everything figured out?"
"Yeah, but—Hannibal—how are you planning on getting Dolly out exactly, I mean, while we're breaking into the safe?" BA nodded as Face voiced what he had just been thinking.
"I'm going to sneak in as some kind of janitor, she's being held somewhere on the second level. It won't be hard to find her because everyone should be pretty preoccupied with Amy by that point." Hannibal grinned at Amy, who smirked back, eyebrows raised.
"This is a risky plan, Hannibal. There are too many things that can go wrong." BA put in his own two bits before anyone else could say anything, but Face nodded in agreement from Hannibal's left side. "I don't wanna be blown up or electrified, Hannibal." BA turned his statement into a threat as he glared at his superior.
"It'll be fine, BA!" Hannibal smirked, "Besides, what's the fun without a little risk involved?"
Simultaneously, BA, Face, Murdock, and Amy all opened their mouths to reply but Hannibal stopped them after glancing at his watch,
"Alright, guys, time to suit up!" He turned to leave and let out a cackle full of Jazz as he walked off. BA shook his head and heard Face sigh.
This was going to be a long night.
Hello again mi amigos.
