BA hadn't been having the greatest night to begin with, with the stupid scuba gear and whole tote of other things he had to bring, but after he cut through the chain link fence and finally reached completely dry land rather than having waves bashing his back for fifteen minutes, and saw the expansive minefield he'd have to make his way through, he'd pretty much had enough.
He complained to himself as he took a look at the time, seeing that it was only 11:14 and that he had more than half an hour to get through the football sized minefield in front of him. After a quick breather, BA unloaded the metal detector that had been given to him earlier, made sure it was dry, and switched it on. Giving a sigh and shaking his head, he got to work.
It was slow and hard, and annoying, but BA slowly and methodically started locating mines and gingerly placing a flasher next to it before moving on. He had a few close calls and nearly stepped on several mines, but he continued on unscathed. The only reason that he hadn't complained more to Hannibal about getting this job was because he wouldn't have to be with that crazy fool the whole time. He snickered to himself imagining what Face was probably already going through.
After what seemed like forever, BA finally made it to the far edge of the field, and checked to see that it was now 11:53 and that he still had several minutes to wait before he could get too close to the electrified wall in front of him. And BA thought of his team's roles. Hannibal was up high high in the hotel above the casino-or more accurately, he was out of the casino with Mrs. Parton by this time. Face and Murdock were probably near him, maybe already in the saferoom, and maybe nearly there (hopefully not stuck or dead because then in turn he would die). Lastly, Amy was acting as a distraction-a role that might be seen as less glamorous, but if BA knew anything about Hannibal's plans, it was that they never went according to plan, but they still somehow worked. So BA figured her distraction would probably end up being really important somehow and left it at that.
As he thought, he double-checked his gear, found a few more mines with his detector and used up the few remaining flashers he had, and then pulled out the heavy duty welder and stepped up to the wall in his scuba gear, his oxygen tank and other gear on the ground nearby. He kneeled next to the metal wall at 11:59.
When 12:00 AM hit, BA lit the welder.
But it didn't light. BA tried again, sparking the machine in his hands, but it still didn't light. BA's frustration slowly grew as he tried again and again to spark the flame, and again and again it refused to light.
A minute ticked by, and then two minutes, and though he had already tried many times, the large welder would not fire up. A wave of relief washed over him when he at last was able to spark a flame into existence, but it went out a second later , much to BA's steadily growing annoyance. A few seconds later, he managed to get the flame to reappear, but it was only briefly. After the third time the flame successfully lit before sputtering out, BA was ready to punch something, and after giving the machine in his hands an angry shake, he tried again.
Finally, the flame lit, and didn't immediately die out. With satisfaction, he glanced at the clock to see he had lost over three minutes, and it was 12:03. Without another thought, BA turned his attention to the wall, and was grateful to not feel electricity shooting through his body when he made contact, because it meant he could keep his life, but more importantly (though he wouldn't want to admit it) that his two comrades were still alive and kicking in at least some capacity.
To make up for lost seconds, BA made the new entrance to the vault as small as it could be with him still able to fit through it, since he knew if he could fit, his two smaller companions would have no trouble slipping through.
As the minutes ticked on, BA felt the urgency pressing on him, and hurried as quickly as he could. When at last he had connected the end of the melted path through the metal with it's beginning, he quickly turned off his welder and removed the scuba goggles he had used to shield his eyes from the fire, sitting on his pockets and kicking with both feet as hard as he could, hoping he hadn't gone too fast through the thick metal layer.
The makeshift entrance gave way after a little struggle to remain stationary, and BA felt a rush of air around him as he peered inside the safe room, looking for his friends. The sight that greeted him was both confusing and worrying.
The small white room was mostly empty save a desk and chair for a guard, a bench against a wall, and a table on the right wall that had boxes on it, and several weapons layed out next to the boxes. At the foot of the table, two men (probably guards) were sprawled on the ground.
The thing that had BA hoisting himself down through the hole as quickly as he could was the other two men on the ground seemingly lifeless near to the left wall of the room that held an enormous metal safe door.
Face was crumpled and limp leaning against the large door, and Murdock was several feet closer flat on the ground.
Neither of them were breathing.
Heyoo, it's been a hot minute, but I'm back! I am also switching a few things up, so bear with me as I edit some chapters!
Good to be back!
