Summary: After the death of her father, Emily is forced to move in with her Uncle, Aunt, and Cousin. Just when she starts to move past the pain, she finds something that forces her to confront her past.
Emily stood at the grave and wiped her tears away. It was officially the worst day of her life. Her father died of a heart attack; the funeral just finished. She stood in front of the headstone, not able to move.
"I miss you, Papi." She said.
She tried to keep the tears from falling again... she failed. She started crying again when a hand touched her shoulder. She looked and saw Heather and Tracey.
"Hey, I already know the answer to this, but... are you okay?" Tracey asked.
Emily flung her arms around Tracey and started crying into her friend's chest. Heather and Tracey hug Emily.
"Hey, Emelina, it's time to go."
Emily looked over and saw Luz.
"Heather, Tracey, this is my cousin, Luz Belos." Emily said, "I'm moving in with her and my Aunt and Uncle. They live in Maine."
"So... this is goodbye?" Tracey asked.
Emily got more tears in her eyes, but nodded.
"I guess so." Emily said.
They share one more hug before separating.
"We're going to miss you." Tracey said.
"Guess this means we won't get to see the Blood Moon together in a few weeks." Heather said, sadly.
"I'm going to miss the both of you." Emily said.
Luz and Emily walked away, while Tracey and Heather walked in the other direction. Emily was openly crying; Tracey and Heather were quick to wipe away the tears, but they couldn't stop. Luz put an arm around Emily's shoulder, trying to give her comfort.
"Hey, I'm here if you need me." Luz said.
"Thanks Luz." Emily wiped the tears away, "Okay, let's go."
"I thought you'd never ask."
Luz snapped her finger's, causing her ears to become pointed. She pulled out a key and lead Emily away.
"Everything's out of my house, right?" Emily asked.
"It was all moved out this morning." Luz said, "You ready?"
Emily looked down, the truth was, no she is not ready, but this was the only way to get to her only family left.
"Do it."
Luz pressed the eye of the key and a portal rose from the ground. The portal opened and they walked through it.
"Ah, home, sweet castle." Luz said.
Emily looked around and sighed. This was her new home.
"Come on, Emelina, I'll show you to your new room."
"Not so fast."
They turned around and Emily saw someone with bright orange hair.
"Eda!" Luz said, running at her, "What are you doing here?"
"Well, three reasons. One, I'm your mentor and it's time for your lesson. Two, I need my portal back. Three-"
"It's her payday."
Luz ran at the new voice and hugged them.
"Daddy!"
Belos rubbed Luz's head.
"Hello, darling." He said, "Edalyn, I believe this is yours."
He handed her an envelope which she took quickly.
"Ah, the royal check." Eda said, stuffing it in her hair, "That takes care of my mortgage for the month."
"Please, you could buy a new house with what I pay you every week." Belos said, turning to Emily, "Hello, Emelina."
"Hi, Uncle Alex." She said, sadly.
"Luz, go with Edalyn, I'll bring your cousin to her new room."
"Okay, daddy!"
Luz went with Eda and Belos walked Emily to her room.
"Are you okay, Emelina?"
"Honestly, no. Papi was the only parent I had. I don't know what to do without him."
"Don't worry, Honey, we'll be here for you." Belos said.
"Thank you, Uncle Alex."
