After a few days, we find Ruby and Laxus on the plateaued mountain, they're both stretching. "Laxus, you've confused me a bit, the other day, you said I'm the only person you consider a friend, but I'm barely over half your age, and you have Freed, Evergreen and Bickslow, who are not only closer to your age than me, but they're also beyond loyal to you, how am I the only one you consider as your friend?" Ruby asks, and Laxus sighs.
"The three of them are loyal, but they seem to have no desires of their own. Well, I mean they do work on their own, but they don't really do anything else. They'll do anything I ask, which is idiotic, I don't need sheep. You have a mind of your own, you don't follow anyone mindlessly, that's a good trait for any mage…, for a leader." Laxus says; when shadows meld out of the ground, hitting him in the stomach, making him lurch over. "What the hell?!" He yells.
"Don't call me that, I've been down that path before, and I'm not a leader." She snarls.
"Geeze, fine, I mostly meant it as a joke anyway, but I do think you'd be a good one." He says, getting back up. "Now let's get started, we'll train for a few hours, and refine your spells." He says.
"What do you mean?" She asks.
"Well you still seem stuck using your respective Devil Slayer Magic, on their side only, only able to use light on the Right side, and Shadow on the left, aside from Light Travel and Shadow Form." He explains. "By the trials next year, I expect you to be able to use both your Devil Slayer Magics on both sides. Now after training, I'll be taking you on an S-Class job, just the two of us, and get used to it. I've taken you on as my apprentice until next year's S-Class trials, you'll be going on every job I do until then." He says, and she nods, happy. A few months later Ruby walks into the guild, to get breakfast, getting ready for a job that Laxus is getting.
"Going on another job with Laxus?" Ruby hears, and she turns, and sees a 16 year old girl, she has mid-back length, brown hair and eyes, she's wearing a blue bikini top, orange knee-length pants, and high-heeled sandals.
"What do you want, Cana?"Ruby asks, coldly.
"Well, some advice, since you've been training so hard, likely in hopes to be picked for the trials next year." Cana says, and Ruby slams a fist through the bar.
"Like I need advice from a failure like you!" Ruby snarls, grabbing a bag that has breakfast for her and Laxus. "With the way you are, ever since you lost to Laxus, 2 years ago, even Gray could beat you." She says leaving alongside Laxus, after several hours of travel, the two sit down to rest and eat.
"What was that about earlier, I mean I know Cana can be annoying sometimes, but she's also one of the decent ones in the guilds?" Laxus asks.
"She annoys me, I know you see her potential too, which I hate to admit is more than me, Erza, Mira, Natsu, Gray, and even you! But something is keeping her from reaching it, and it really annoys me! She has all of this potential, and is, seemingly, too inept to reach out and grasp it!" She screams, annoyed, shocking him.
"It's not like you to get so worked up, about something that isn't personal to you." He says.
"What do you expect, considering who she's the daughter of, she should've had the ability to beat you and become an S-Class instead of Erza." She says, confusing him, and she notices. "Right, I always forget that few people can sense Magic like I can, even being able to tell who shares blood, those who are related by blood, have this unique feeling that I can feel from their magic. And since I know you're wondering, Cana is the daughter of Gildarts." Ruby says, shocking him.
"O-Ok, let's shelf that revelation for later, what was that comment about Gray about, you and I both know Natsu is stronger." He says.
"Well yeah, currently, Gray is the weakest between Erza, Natsu and him. Though I have no doubt that Natsu will surpass Erza in the next few years, if not next year. A few weeks ago, Natsu asked me for some training tips, I agreed after having a sparring match with him, and I actually saw how badly Lisanna's death hit him but I won't get into that, since I already knew it'd be like that, anyway I highly expect that Natsu, Cana and I will likely be chosen for the trials next year, but he's really the only threat between the two." She says.

We see all of the guild members, within the guild, outside of Gildarts who took a 100 year quest two years ago, there's also a certain energy buzzing through the guild. "My children, as you know, it's that time of year again, the S-Class trials have arrived, three members have been chosen this year. But before I reveal your names, let me tell you now, this year's trials aren't to be taken lightly, they will test you three in ways that haven't been used since Mavis Vermillion herself was the Guild Master. This year the chosen three will accompany myself, Erza and Laxus to the Caves of Illusion." Makarov says, shocking Macao, Wakaba and Summer, in her pouch.
"What about Mystogan?" Several guild members ask.
"Mystogan can't make it, he has matters he has to attend to. Now for the three chosen, Cana Alberona, Natsu Dragneel, and Ruby Rose." He says.
"Just as I thought." Ruby says, smirking.
"What, Flame brain was chosen over me!" Gray yells, annoyed and jealous.
(Are you sure about that master, Ruby's currently the youngest member of the guild?) Macao thinks, as several members actually verbally question Ruby's nomination.
"Quiet, quiet, I know most of you might not think Ruby is ready for this, yes she's the youngest member of the guild, but you all forget she's only a year younger than Erza was when she was nominated. Either way, Laxus, Erza, Mira and myself agreed that the three of them earned this chance, and this year there will be no partners." Makarov says, and the three nod, while the rest of the guild nods, reluctantly. "Now you three, prepare, we'll be heading out in the next few days." He says, and the three nod, Ruby leaves the guild, and heads out into Magnolia, and after a few turns she comes to a shop called A Thieves Price, and walks in seeing all the supplies and magic items showing that it's a supply and Magic shop.
"Hello, Red." Ruby hears, and looks over at a man in his mid twenties, he has neck length orange hair, with bangs covering his right eye which are both green, he's wearing a fairly common, yet nice white shirt, black pants and boots, she's quiet for a few minutes, browsing.
"Hello Roman, how's business been?" Ruby asks.
"It's good nowadays, definitely since I met you, and you donated funds to actually advertise my little shop." Roman says, and she smiles, though it's impossible to actually tell she is. "Now what's going on with your guild, the amount of jobs Fairy Tail has been doing lately, is much more than usual." He says.
"The guild is holding S-Class exams, Natsu, Cana and I have been chosen to participate, whichever of us succeeds will become S-Class." she explains.
"Oh, I imagine Master Makarov wouldn't choose you, unless he knew you had a chance of succeeding, and I know you're very strong, Red, but do you think you're ready for this?" He asks.
"Laxus has trained me for a year straight, for this day, but there is something I'm wondering about, have you ever heard of the caves of Illusions?" She asks.
"Just rumors, why?" He asks.
"Well, that's where our trials are going to be held, now those rumors." She says, and he sighs.
"Apparently the caves of illusions are a very dangerous set of caves not for any creature that lives there, but for the tricks the caves play on people's minds, some rumors saying that a person can go completely insane from getting lost in those caves." Roman says, and Ruby nods.
"Sounds like a perfect place for the trials, anyway I need a top up on my usual supplies." Ruby says.
"Regular job, or Laxus level." He asks.
"Laxus level to be safe, these trials are likely going to be as hard as an S-Class job." She says, and he nods, and after a few minutes, she has a whole crate of supplies, that glows gold, and in another gold glow, she hands him several diamonds, and go's to leave the shop. (I still can't believe I can talk so casually with your Reincarnation Torchwick.) She thinks.
"Hey Red, despite how you always say we never met before last year, it still feels like we've met before." He says, and she nods.
(Be glad you don't know, Roman, remembering your Past life isn't all it's cracked up to be.) She laments, and a few days later Ruby, Natsu, Cana, Erza, Laxus and Makarov are camping nearby mountain range.
"Alright, you three, tomorrow we'll be at the caves, that's when the test will truly begin." Makarov says.
"What will we face in those caves master?" Cana asks.
"Roman, said that the rumors of the caves, say they play tricks on the mind, and that people could go completely insane, which means you'll need all the luck you can get Cana." Ruby taunts, and Erza goes to say something, when Natsu interrupts.
"I hate to agree right now, but considering how you tend to get around this time of year, a place that messes with people's minds seems to be a bad test for you Cana." Natsu says, but they all hear, by his tone of voice, that he's not agreeing with Ruby to be mean, but he's actually worried for Cana, and Makarov just sighs.
"While those rumors about messing with your mind are true, even I don't know how much it will, the only notes on the caves that Master Mavis left, only says that those who enter will face something, and it's different for anyone who enters." Makarov says, and they nod, the next afternoon they're all standing in front of a series of cave entrances. "Now that we're here, I have no idea what you three will face in there, but I will explain the rules, we'll be waiting on the other side and the first person to make it out, will pass on to the technical second round, the second to get out will face Erza and the last to get out will face Laxus." He explains.
"So the one, that is the least affected by the cave or manages to keep their shit together, long enough to get out first, will essentially be rewarded by not being stressed further, and allowed to rest, while the one who's the most affected or takes the longest will be penalized the most, and if we lose to Erza or Laxus, we'll likely lose our chance of becoming S-Class." Ruby says, and Makarov nods.
"Yes, now if you beat Erza and Laxus, or they deem you worthy to pass to the next stage, then it'll be a battle royale between the three of you, and whoever comes out the victor, must answer this question, Power, Heart or Soul, which is most important?" He asks, and the three nod, with Ruby tossing Summer to Makarov, and they all walk towards three different cave entrances, Ruby notices the odd runes at the top of each entrance.
(These are written in the demon language, and these runes are Uncle's handwriting, so this definitely won't be easy." She thinks, and looks at each set of Runes, for their cave. (Mine says, 'Face Yourself', this won't be pleasant, no matter what way I think this could go. Natsu's, 'Face your Worst Self'. And Cana, hmph 'Face Your Greatest Fear'.) She thinks, and enters the cave and after an hour of walking, she's beginning to get annoyed, especially since she's felt the magic of the cave peering into her the whole time, when she finally steps into a large cavern and after she gets past the halfway point of the cavern, she feels a presence. "It's about time you appeared." She says, looking behind her and seeing her 15 year old self from Remnant. "Of all the versions of me I could've seen, you're the most annoying choice." She mutter's already annoyed.
"How could you see yourself as annoying?" Past Ruby asks, legitimately confused, tilting her head and current Ruby glares at her.
"I hate how naive I was, when I was you." Ruby says.
"But…, you are still me. You show our kindness around Romeo, Laxus, recently started showing it to Natsu, and you always showed it to Lisanna, who reminds you of Yang and Charlie. And you might not show it, but you care about the Guild and everyone in it." Past Ruby says.
"And? Just because I acknowledge what you're saying is true, doesn't mean I'll change the way I act now, it's the reason I've gotten as strong as I have." Ruby says, but is whacked in the head with a stick. "Ow, what the hell, where'd you even get that!" She exclaims, and past Ruby looks at the stick.
"No clue, either way, you shouldn't lie to yourself like that." Past Ruby chastises.
"I'm not lying." Ruby says, and past Ruby whacks her in the head again.
"Yes you are, you and I both know that you get stronger, for the same reason we wanted to be a huntress, to help people. And you only act the way you do, to keep as many people away from you so you don't get attached, like we did to Penny and Little, but you know things don't work like that, people always worm their way in." Past Ruby says.
"That may be so, but it's only heartbreak waiting to happen." Ruby says, turning around and continuing through the cavern, intent on being the first one out, so she can deal with the headache she now has.
"Hey where are you going, I'm not done talking to you." Past Ruby says, running after future self, her stick now gone, only to have a fist slammed into her face and being launched into the cavern wall, cratering it.
"But I'm done talking to you, you and I are no longer the same person and will never agree, for the simple fact that you're an annoying little brat that sees the good in everything, you're full of hope. I lost that hope a long time ago, and I see the world for what it really is." Ruby says, as her eyes glow pink. "The world is cruel, cold and ruthless, it doesn't care about anyone that lives in it, pain and suffering run rampant, that is how the world is. And no amount of hope, kindness, care or good will, will ever change that!" She yells, leaving the cavern and after another hour, she finds her way out of the cave, and sees Laxus.
"Hmph, the first one out, as I'd expect from you, though I kind of wish you were the last out, just so we could have a no holds barred fight, well go rest." Laxus says, and she nods, and she walks off, going past Erza, and eventually finds Makarov.
"Ah, Ruby, I had a feeling you'd be the first one out." Makarov says, jovially, but she ignores him, and sits under a tree.
"No offense Master, but unless you have something that can get rid of my headache, can you please be quiet." Ruby says, and he nods, not knowing what she might've dealt with in those caves, she nods in thanks and takes a nap, while she waits for Natsu, and after 3 hours, she's gently shaken awake by Laxus, she gets up and takes notice an unconscious Cana, and a beaten and bruised but happy Natsu.
"I take it, you finally beat Erza?" She asks, and Natsu nods, grinning. "Congrats then, here." She says tossing him a red lacrima.
"What's this?" Natsu asks.
"It's a spell lacrima, it has a spell sealed in it, a fire spell called Inferno Wrath, if we're going to fight, I want you at your best, I haven't fought at all today. You and I both know, you beating Erza, used up a lot of your magic, I don't want to beat you, just because you used the majority of your magic against Erza." She says, annoying him, but he nods anyway, he walks a distance away and crushes the lacrima creating a massive explosion of flames, and similar to Ruby, Natsu consumes all of the flames.
"Wow, that was amazing, I'm even more fired up than usual!" He yells, slamming a fist into his palm, expelling a pulse of flames, as both of their Magics spike, and despite the fact that becoming an S-Class possibly rides on this fight, the both of them are more excited for this fight than the promotion at the moment.
"You know, I'm surprised Natsu, the day I joined the guild I wrote you off as a weakling, but I haven't been this excited for a fight in a long time." She says.
"I remember, I'm still angry at you for that, but after what Laxus and Gramps said that day, I took it as a challenge, and when Lisanna died, I realized there were a few things you were right about, most of the guild is to lax, maybe if Gramps had been harder on Mira, hadn't been so lenient, Lisanna would still be with us." He says, as his magic spikes immensely from the thought of Lisanna's death, and Ruby's magic spikes similarly.
"Yeah." She says, sadly, then shakes her head. "Let's stop these thoughts, let's get to the fight, becoming S-Class rides on this, after all." She says, getting ready to fight, as her marks appear, her eyes turn pink and her hair spikes up, and he nods. After a few minutes Natsu rushes at Ruby. "Fire Dragon's Iron Fist!" He yells,
"Light Devil's Curse Fist!" She yells, meeting his fist with her own, which throws his arm back. "Shadow Devil's Hex Crush!" She yells, kicking him in the stomach, throwing him back. He flips, landing on his feet, but immediately tenses up and lunges at her, his body engulfed in flames.
"Fire Dragon's Sword Horn!" He yells, headbutting Ruby in the stomach launching her back, but her body glows, light pink, and she disappears from his sight, she appears in front of him, with her leg lodged in his stomach, she then slams both her fists on his back throwing him to the ground.
"Light Devil's Ripping Whip!" She yells, as a bright pink whip appears from her hand, wrapping around Natsu's leg, she pulls, throwing him into the air, and jumps, pulling her hands to her side in a maker stance. "Demon Hunter : Warhammer!" She yells, creating a giant, dual-toned, light pink and dark pink hammer, slamming it down on Natsu, and slamming him into the ground. "Light Devil's Hex Crush!" She yells, but her whole body glows bright pink and she speeds downwards and slamming her heel into Natsu's stomach, making him spit up blood, but he manages to flip, throwing her off him, creating two orbs of fire on both his hands.
"With a Flame on the Right hand… and a Flame on the Left Hand… When you Combine the Flames Together… Fire Dragon's Brilliant Flame!" He chants, slamming his hands together and throwing them up, creating a giant orb of fire that he throws at her, exploding and it blasts her through a mile of forest, and multiple trees, after a few minutes , she walks back through the trail of destruction, but she's smiling, and her body glows bright pink, she appears in front of him, in a maker stance.
"Demon Hunter : Chains!" Ruby yells, slamming her hand on Natsu's chest, creating links of dark and bright pink chains, around him, then her hands turn dark pink and she slams them into the ground which phases into it, she pulls her hand back out without the chain which sinks into the shadow zone, pulling Natsu against the ground. "You know Natsu, as strong as you've gotten, you still have one glaring weakness, and contrary to what the others think, it's not your emotions, as a Fire Dragon Slayer, your emotions are a very powerful weapon. Your weakness is your predictability, you only use Fire Dragon Slayer Magic, and yes I use two different Devil Slayer Magics, but I've learned another Magic, you should never be a one trick pony." She says, as her right hand bursts with blue lightning. "Thunder Palm!" She yells, slamming her hand on him making him scream, from the electrocution, she jumps still with blue lightning. "Thunderbolt!" She yells, throwing a blue bolt of lightning hitting him, she then puts both her hands up.
"Shit!" Natsu yells, twitching trying to get up. "Damn it, why can't I get up?!" He yells.
"Because of the lightning magic I learned, it's not as powerful as Laxus's, but it has a paralyzing effect. Now, Light and Shadows Together… Light of Azazel… Shadows of Empusa… Eclipse of Bakunawa!" She chants, launching the bright and dark pink orb down on Natsu, creating a massive, two-toned, pink explosion, she lands, and is shocked seeing Natsu is still conscious, and he screams, his body exploding in flames, and he shoots up, and rushes at her.
(The paralysis should've lasted longer than that!) She thinks, shocked.
"Crimson Lotus : Fire Dragon's Fist!" He roars, slamming a multitude of flame engulfed fists, onto Ruby, for a minute then landing one final hit, launching her away, but she catches herself and flips in mid air and lands, smirking, pulling her head back, and Natsu's eyes widen, then her marks appear to glow, he also pulls his head back and both their Magics spike, and there eyes shoot open. "Fire Dragon's Roar!"He roars, releasing a torrent of flames from his mouth.
"Enlightened Shadow Devil's Rage!" She roars, releasing a dual- toned, pink beam from her mouth, both attacks impact for a few seconds, before Ruby's Rage wins out, tearing through the flames and hitting Natsu and kicking up a dust cloud; when the dust settles, they all see Natsu unconscious. Off to the side Cana has regained consciousness, and is astounded.
"I knew Ruby was strong, but I didn't think she'd beat Natsu." Cana mumbles.
"Yes, the two are quite amazing." Erza says.
"Well, that settles it, Ruby, head on to the old man." Laxus says, and she nods, requipping another fire spell lacrima, and tossing it to Erza.
"Give that to Natsu, when he wakes up." Ruby says, walking away, and starts heading towards Makarov. "Power, Heart and Soul, and which is most important, huh." She mumbles, walking slowly, being drained from the fight with Natsu, as different images come to mind, from training with Laxus, and now friendly spars with Natsu, to the annoying but still sweet birthday parties that Macao plans for her. Then the faces of everyone in the guild, even those she doesn't get along with, even Mira, who she's still angry with. To even images of Lillith, Charlie, Yang, Weiss, Blake, Jaune, and a blonde haired man with ten angel wings. Then she thinks of earlier. "Even if I don't show it, huh." She mutters, and after 20 minutes, she walks up to Makarov, who's overlooking the ocean.
"Ah, hello Ruby, I had a hunch, you're the one I'd be talking to." Makarov says, handing Summer back to Ruby. "So do you have an answer?" He asks, she looks at Summer for a minute, then lets her go, to float beside her, as she's also waiting.
"I do, Power, Heart, Soul, all three are important. Without power, you can't protect the innocent, you can't protect those that can't protect themselves, and most importantly, you can't protect those you care about, you can't protect your family. Heart it's synonymous with emotions, without it, you can't empathize with others, you can't show others compassion, understanding, love or forgivnes. And Soul, it's the hardest to put into words, even for me, who knows the weight of a soul more than most, but I believe the soul is the essence of who we are, it confers individuality and humanity, at the root, the soul is eternal, it's who we are, even after death." Ruby says, and then looks at Makarov, whose eyes are shut, his eyes open, and he looks at her.
"That's quite an interesting answer, I guess, there's only one thing for me to really say, Ruby, you pass, as of this moment, you are promoted to S-Class, congratulation's my child." Makarov says, and she nods.
"Thank you master." She says, putting Summer back in her pouch, but Makarov chuckles.
"You know, you just broke two records, you're not only the new youngest Fairy Tail Mage, to become S-Class, beating Erza, but you've also set the ne new record of youngest Mage to attain S-Class in all of Fiore, beating Bacchus Groh who set attaining S-Class at 15, 2 years before Erza." He says.

Ruby is walking towards the guild and her appearance hasn't changed, from the past two years, other than a necklace, it's a yellow lightning bolt, when she gets to the guild, she meets a frog person with a few guards from the Magic Council. "Ah Miss Rose, how fortunate, to meet you when we're here to apprehend Miss Scarlet." The frog man says.
"Damn it, what did Scarlet do now?!" Ruby snaps, slightly scaring the frog man.
"Ah, well this arrest is more of a formality." He says.
"She caused a lot of property damage didn't she." She says, annoyed.
"Her, Dragneel and Fullbuster, but since they were doing a job, and since she was the highest ranked Mage on the job…" He says, but is interrupted .
"Say no more." She says, and they head on into the guild. "You know Erza, for someone who's always criticizing the rest of the guild for causing property damage, the only ones in the guild who cause as much or more than you do, are Gray, Natsu and Gildarts." She says walking in and grabbing her by her armor's neck guard, and pulling her to the frogman, making her drop the strawberry cake she was eating.
"My, my cake." Erza says, and the rest of the guild starts to freak out.
"Screw your cake, you've got more to worry about, you're actually being arrested, for whatever you, Natsu and Gray did." Ruby says, annoyed.
"What?!" Everyone yells.
"As Miss Rose said, Erza Scarlet is under arrest for 11 counts of property damage, during the Eisenwald case." The frogman says, and they cuff Erza, leaving the guild, and an angry Natsu goes to follow, when he hears knuckles popping, and starts to sweat, he looks back to see Ruby standing there.
"And where do you think you're going?" She asks, a glint in her eye.
"Oh come on, you might not like Erza, but even you know this is bullshit!" Natsu yells.
"It's a formality, they can't actually do anything to Erza, and they know that, the worst they can do is imprison her for a single night." She says, walking over to the bar where we see Mira working, ordering food and a drink, before heading up a set of stairs, and sits at a table.
"Gray, who's that?" A girl asks, she has shoulder-length, blonde hair, and brown eyes, she's wearing a white shirt with blue trim, a blue skirt and black boots.
"I'm surprised you don't know who she is, Lucy, since you knew both Erza and Mira as soon as you saw them, and seem to know most of the big names of the Guild. That's Ruby Rose, she's as famous as the both of them combined, though you might know her by her alias, the Demon Fairy." Gray says, and Lucy's eyes widen.
"That girl is the Demon Fairy, she can't be older than 15 or 16, and based on the alias, I thought she was a guy and much older, at that!" Lucy says, shocked.
"She's 15, and I guess her alias is a bit misleading, but no more than Mira's, who used to be called the Demon Mirajane." He says.
"Oh, well." She says, processing that, and sees Mira take a plate of food and a drink, with a side plate of cookies and milk, up the stairs. The next day, Erza's back and things are going as normal.
"So how are things, Ruby, you'd have normally taken another job by this point!" Natsu yells up to Ruby, and she shrugs.
"I'm taking a break, 4 S-Classes in a row, will tire anyone out, other than Gildarts!" Ruby yells down at Natsu.
"Why don't you go up there with her, Natsu, if you and her want to talk." Lucy says.
"He can't go up there, the second floor is where the S-Class Job board is, and only S-Class Mages are allowed on that floor." Mira explains, shocking Lucy.
"That means!" Lucy says.
"Yes Lucy, Ruby is S-Class, and believe it or not but she's stronger than Erza, Natsu and Gray." Mira says.
"But the other day, you said Natsu, Gray and Erza were the strongest team in the guild." Lucy says, and they hear a mirthless chuckle.
"Of course that failure would say something as stupid as that. But the strongest possible team in the guild would be Gildarts, Laxus, Mystogan, myself and Natsu." Ruby says, when everyone starts getting tired, except for her, Makarov and Laxus, and everyone slumps over, the doors open and a cloaked man with a blue bandanna and a green mask obscuring his face, and bundle of staves on his back, walks in. "Afternoon Mystogan." She says, looking over the rail.
"Same to you Ruby." Mystogan says, walking in and grabbing a job. "I'm taking this job, Master." He says. Leaving the guild.
"Hey, take off the sleep magic first!" Makarov yells, Mystogan sticks his hand up and counts down from 5, when he disappears outside the door, and everyone that fell asleep wakes up.
"Damn it, Mystogan was here!" Natsu yells.
"You guys really need to learn how to shake that magic off." Ruby mocks.
"Great advice, if it wasn't coming from someone, who's not affected by any magic that messes with your head." Gray snorts.
"Mystogan?" Lucy asks.
"He's a candidate for Fairy Tail's strongest, well, when Gildarts isn't around." A guy says, he has short, spiky orange hair and hazel eyes, he's wearing a green coat, red shirt, black pants and white sneakers, who then freaks out. "Even so, no one even knows what he looks like, other than Laxus, Ruby and Master Makarov. When he comes to look for a job, he puts everyone asleep, except the three of them, who aren't affected by his sleep spell." He says.
"Which really shows how pathetic you all are, that sleep spell isn't even that strong." Laxus says, looking over the railing.
"Forget them, Laxus, they're not worth your time." Ruby says, getting up and heading over to the S-Class board, and spots a job, then heads out. "Macao, I'm heading home, to rest more, I'll probably take a job tomorrow, Romeo, make sure your dad doesn't get too drunk." She says, waving at a 6 year old boy with dark purple hair, and black eyes, wearing a black shirt with a red rose surrounded by a pink dragon on the front, blue shorts and sandals, and the kid nods.
"Of course, big sis." Romeo says, and Ruby nods, in thanks.
"Tch." (Galuna Island, huh, Aunt Lillith and Uncle Lucifer said somethings happening there, and that the demons there, aren't responding to the messages. I'd rather not be used for scout work like this, but in the off chance that humans have attacked the island, it could spark a war with Makai, and that'd be really bad.) She thinks, annoyed.
"What was that about, why'd she tell Macao that she's going home?" Lucy asks Mira, at the bar.
"Well, Macao is Ruby's Legal Guardian, being her Godfather, remember when you and Natsu went to save Macao, and I told you Romeo only has his dad and a sister figure at home, Ruby is his sister figure, as they're god siblings." Mira says.
"What about her parents?" Lucy asks, and Mira looks down.
"They died… when she was 3, her village was attacked by Dark Mages, she was the only survivor." Mira says.
"And Macao's been raising her since?" Lucy asks, smiling.
"No." Macao says, walking up.
"What do you mean, no?!" Lucy screams.
"We didn't find out about what happened, until the day after, when Makarov, Wakaba, Gildarts and I went, to see what happened, and had hoped to find Summer or Ruby, Summer was dead, and Ruby was gone. We didn't know what happened to her, until 6 years ago, when she joined the guild." He says.
"Summer? And what happened?" She asks, and Macao takes her to a wall with a bunch of pictures, and shows her some pictures that show a younger Macao and Wakaba, with a woman that looks almost exactly like Ruby, and looks to be a few years older than the two.
"Summer Rose, Ruby's mother, she was like a big sister to Wakaba and I. And about Ruby, the Dark Mages that attacked her village, they were Demon Worshippers, they sacrificed the villagers, and they summoned something, but it wasn't a Demon, the idiots summoned a Devil. To be precise they summoned the Devil Queen of Makai : Lilith, she was not happy, about what those Dark Mages had done, and that the leader was about to kill Ruby, a toddler at the time, and ripped them apart, she then found Ruby, and decided to raise her with her Husband, the Devil King. Ruby was raised in Makai, and like how Natsu is a Dragon Slayer, Ruby is a Devil Slayer." He explains, she nods, and after a while Lucy is back at the bar talking to Mira.
"Mira… what are S-Class quests?" She asks, and she sees the pain that appears in Mira's eyes.
"S-Class quest's they're jobs, where even the tiniest misjudgement can result in death. And right now, there are only 6 people, a part of the guild allowed to take S-Class Quest. They are our S-Class Mages, Gildarts Clive, Laxus Dreyar, Erza, myself, believe it or not, then Mystogan and Ruby." Mira says, and Lucy looks down thinking.
"Hey Mira?" Lucy asks.
"Yeah?" Mira answers.
"I noticed, Ruby seemed annoyed with the rest of the guild, but she seemed to actually have this angry tone, when she was speaking about you, yesterday. And now that I think about it, Natsu doesn't seem to like you either, or at least, not like he does the rest of the guild." Lucy says, and the pain in Mira's eyes increases, and looks at a picture, with everyone in it from 6 years ago, and looks at Lisanna, she takes Lucy over to the picture, and point's at lisanna.
"This is my little sister, Lisanna Strauss, she and Elfman went on an S-Class job with me, 2 years ago but she died, I haven't gone on any quest since. And yes this is important to your question, Ruby and Natsu were very close to Lisanna, Natsu especially, neither took her death very well, and neither will ever forgive me." Mira explains.
"But her death wasn't your fault." Lucy says.
"You sound like Master Makarov, but it is, I didn't have to take them on the job with me, I could've done it by myself, and as the S-Class who went on the quest, It was my responsibility to keep her safe." Mira says, and the two are very quiet for a while, when Lucy notices something in the picture and what Mira said.
"Why isn't Ruby in this picture, and why'd you say 'Natsu especially'?" Lucy asks.
"Ah, this picture was taken a few months before Ruby joined the Guild, heck this was actually taken before Laxus became S-Class. And about Natsu, as Ruby explained, with Natsu being a Dragon Slayer, he can only show true love to a single person, that was Lisanna, she was his Mate, in Dragon terms, and to Dragons and Dragon Slayers, there Mate is the most important thing in the world to them. So in Natsu's eyes, I got what he cares about more than anything in this world, killed." Mira explains, shocking Lucy, the next day, Natsu walks into the guild, and sees a sweating Gray, sitting at the bar beside Ruby.
"Took you long enough, Natsu." Ruby say's, holding up a quest, that Natsu notices is an S-Class quest. "You and Gray are coming with me on this job." She says, and he nods.
"Uhm, is that alright?" Lucy asks, walking up.
"Why wouldn't it be, they've both gone on S-Classes with me in the last year, Gray is borderline S-Class, and Natsu is an S-Class in all but rank." Ruby says, getting up.
"Uh, I'll go too, on a tough job like this, more the merrier right." Lucy says, scared inside, but thinking of what Mira said the day before.
"Please, we don't need a pathetic weakling like you getting in our way." Ruby says, coldly, and the three leave the guild.
"So where are we going, Ruby?" Gray asks.
"First we're going to Torchwicks, for supplies, then Hargeon, we're heading to Galuna Island." Ruby explains.
I have a little explaining to do, I originally had no thoughts, of Ruby going to Galuna, I only planned her to be apart of the Phantom Lord Arc and Battle of Fairy Tail Arc, while Edolas is still on the drawing board, but as this chapter got closer to the end, I realized with how I dealt with Natsu, he's not as gun-ho to prove himself to Laxus, and I was like crap, how am I going to get Gray on Galuna if Natsu doesn't steal the quest, but Galuna is an island of demons, so maybe that'd be a reason I could have Ruby go their, under request of her Devil parents, and I might not like the Sub-Zero Emperor arc, but I know it's important to Gray's character.
