Here we are~!
With my fifteen year anniversary on this site finally here, I find myself reflecting on the little things in life. What was once a lazy pastime meant for me and a few friends really grew and evolved over time. There are days when I look back on the last fifteen years here and I wonder if anyone will remember me; if I made an impact, despite never making a single cent on any of these stories. Some days were happier than others, and some stories I enjoyed writing WAY too much; to the point where I'd stay up all night working on them.
And of course, there are times when I look to the future and wonder what will become of things when I'm gone.
Of course, I try not to dwell on the latter overmuch; I'm still alive and still writing. In an ideal world, I'd like to keep doing so for as long as I can. But old age is catching up to me and these days, the world is filled with so much madness and death. Feels like everyone's lost their minds sometimes. Even before that, so many friends and fellow writers I once knew are gone, now. Will I still be here in twenty years? Ten? Five? Its a chilling thought. But for now, I'm still here, still writing.
So here we go. The fate of this story depends on you, the reader. Your feedback determines the fate of this tale, and many others.
I'm just a humble author trying to make his way in this wild world, one word at a time.
Time and feedback will determine if this remains a story. Simple as that.
In other words...its up to YOU, the reader. Do let me know~!

Re-Destro loves his speeches, doesn't he? Oh? Did I say Re-Destro? Why, yes! I did!
Heeeeeere we go~!
"What?! You're leaving?! No way! Nuh-uh! Why do we have to stay here?!"
Because it won't be safe for you where I'm going, Tenko.
...you'll come back, right? Promise?"
Of course I will. A man never goes back on his word.
~Family.
Just a Revolution
Naruto kept his promises.
He prided himself on that; in fact, he liked to think that was one of the few aspects of himself that remained unaltered in this world; although he'd been forced on occasion to harden his heart in some aspects, he had also become more thorough in others as well. But still, he always, always, ALWAYS kept his word. Once given, it was his bond, his promise, his oath.
Which was precisely why he didn't give it lightly these days.
Harden your heart. It sounded so simple in theory. In practice it was another matter entirely. He'd been learning that lesson the hard way ever since he landed here. If you went through life feeling nothing for anyone or anything, it made you a bastard. That was how monsters were made. If he'd closed his heart off to others, he never would've been able to help Tenko and the others.
Conversely, if one cared too much, they'd be bogged down by all the little things in the world. Balance was key.
With that in mind, he'd fulfilled another promise he'd made and finally let went to meet the Meta Liberation Army. He knew what they were in theory thanks to Curious; an organization that ascribed to a rather a unique creed. They believed that the free usage of Quirks was a basic human right, and emphasized liberation over regulation. He suspected there was more to it than that, more than the eccentric young reporter was telling him, but he'd never know the truth while he stood on the outside, looking in.
And so in he went.
Turns out they'd taken over a town, a place of their very own.
Deika City was just the right size, neither too big or too small. Hidden away in the mountains, its entrance and exit routes were were limited and could be easily manipulated by the army. Surrounded by nature on nearly ever side, it was the perfect place for the Liberation Army to hide away from the world.
Surprising, given their origins. Surprising, and full of people.
He could feel their eyes on him even now as he strode down the street. Watching. Waiting. None dared to bar their path, but he sensed a sort of intense readiness from them all the same.
"I hope you're not planning to ambush me...
"No, no, no!" Curious crossed both arms before her face -forming the telltale shape of an X- just a touch too quickly, hinting at the panic she must be feeling within. "We wouldn't dream of it; we remember what you did to Endeavor...
A bead of sweat ran down Naruto's brow.
That really was going to haunt him until the end of his days, wasn't it?
"And besides," she lowered her arms and continued with a grin, "The last thing I want is to die before I can share your story with the rest of Japan-no! The world!"
...alright, that bit at least, made more sense. Curious was journalist through and through. He'd thought her loyal to this MLA and this Re-Destro guy she kept prattling on about, but in truth, she just loved a good story. Or maybe she had been loyal to the cause once, but he'd broken her. He could use that. No, he was GOING to use it. Was that cruel of him? Perhaps. It was also necessary. He very much doubted that he'd been asked to this remote city for a spot of tea.
That said, there were quite a few people in said city. More than he could count.
In an ideal world, he would prefer not to level their homes with Kurama.
"It would make a fair point, though."
'Perhaps.' He let the ghost of a smile touch whiskered cheeks. 'We'll save the nuclear option for last. I promised Tenko and Toya that I'd be home before supper. Rei's cooking tonight~!'
Chitose must've seen said smile; because HER smile became a touch more strained. "In any case, our leader is very eager to meet with you. He's in the main tower. Shall I take you to him?"
He craned his neck back, regarding the distant building in question. "That big building, right?"
"That's the one!"
"Then by all means, go right ahead."
She didn't miss a stride, but still gulped. "Are you going to fight him?"
"That depends." He let his facade slide into place, face becoming an impassive mask once more.
"On?" She was practically salivating, a bit of drool running from the corner of her mouth..
He shrugged. "On whether your leader is amenable to reason."
"And if he isn't?"
Blasted firebrand this one; always chasing excitement. ""Then your army might need new leadership.
He didn't like the idea of confronting this many people, and he likely wouldn't, but to kill them all simply because it was easier? He hadn't fallen that far yet.
After all, he had an example to set for the little ones.

Tenko sneezed loudly.
"Aw man," he sniffed, "Not again...
Why did dad get to have all the fun?"

"Come in, come in! By all means, make yourself at home~!"
The leader of the Meta Liberation Army was...not who Naruto had expected. He'd never met the man, but from what he'd heard, he had imagined a fiend twirling his mustache with a wicked smile and a devilish glint in his eyes...
.
..
...there was no mustache.
Nor did he wear a deranged grin.
If anything, he was almost disappointed by the lack of the latter.
In place of that supposedly wicked figure he'd thought to find, he found himself face to face with a rather lanky individual in a fine blue suit. This was not the monster he'd expected. Just a balding man, with a rather large nose and orange hair. He felt...stressed. Almost strangely so. Not toward in or anyone in particular, just agitated. He seemed to be suppressing a great deal of anxiety...
Idly, he let his gaze roam across the tower's uppermost level.
Someone had dragged a heavy oak desk up here-how they'd managed it he never knew-with a pair of tall glasses set beside an equally dark green bottle. A plush leather chair sat behind the desk, while another had been positioned before it. He supposed he would be expected to sit in the later.
"Rikiya Yotsubashi, at your service." the businessman stepped forward and offered him a hand. "CEO of Detnerat. It truly is a pleasure to meet you face to face. Thank you for coming such a long way to meet me!"
...thanks?" Naruto accepted the enthusiastic man's hand. "I've heard a little about you."
The CEO laughed. "Only good things, I hope!"
"Eh, more or less."
The man flicked a glance to Chitose, still standing near the elevator. "That will be all, Curious. You can wait for us outside."
She squirmed in place, looking like she wanted to protest, or at the very least stay and record the conversation they were about to have.
Rikiya chuckled softly and waved a hand toward the ceiling. "Rest assured, you'll have the "scoop" you seek. Now go."
Naruto flicked a glance that way and saw the cameras in the ceiling above. Hmm. Someone had come prepared.
"Please, take a seat." Rikiya paced past his desk, uncorking a bottle as he went. Would you like some wine?"
"No, thank you." he waved him down, claiming a seat for himself.
"More for me, then." Rikiya tittered and poured himself a glass. "I must admit, your work has fascinated me. Curious speaks most highly of you. I think you broke her."
That was one way of putting it. He stifled an awkward laugh behind one hand. "Not intentionally. That was a bit of an accident."
"Worry not." Her superior chuckled. "She's been a useful liaison between the two of us. She's welcome to work with you. I've been following your career for some time now. You've done well, given the resources at your disposal. Its been an amusing diversion, watching the heroes chase their own tails.
"Wish I could say the same about you. Tell me a bit about yourself.
"I lead the Meta Liberation Army, as you well know. Our objective is to liberate meta powers." the man clenched a fist before him. "To demolish the existing framework of Japan and rebuild a world where people can be people, and use their abilities freely. And what of yeou? What do you desire?"
Naruto considered it for a moment, then shrugged. "I'd prefer to live in peace, if I could."
"Hmhmm." Rikiya hummed. "Peace, you say. You've kept you and yours hidden in the shadows, ever mindful of the watchful eyes of heroes and police." the words almost sounded like a compliment. Almost. "But that very method leaves you susceptible to pursuit within that same darkness." He tapped a finger on his desk. "You really do need to be more careful going forward."
His brow furrowed. "What are you implying?"
Nothing at all." Rikiya tittered anew. "We've simply kept a number of vile villains from banding together and retaliating against you. Consider it...a show of good faith." he raised his glass in a toast. "Truly, I praise their meaningless resistance. They would've been a nuisance to you, nothing more, but you're meant for more than merely cracking skulls.
For generations, we've endured, withstood, taken root and made ready. To that end, we've ever been on the lookout for capable allies like yourself. We learned of you quickly you see; we have a satellite camera locked onto you at at all times. Purely for your own safety, of course." his smile said he actually believed those words. "Wherever you go, we know. Just as you know the heroes would drop everything to get their hands on you. You, the vagabond, the vigilante, the villain who makes them look like fools.
"I'm no villain." he clicked his tongue. "Definitely ain't a hero either...
"Indeed you are not." Rikiya bobbed his head in agreement. If you were some common thug or witless crusader, I wouldn't be making you this offer."
He offered him a hand.
"We seem to share the same goals. You should join us."

Breath in.
Breath out now.
In, now. Out once more. Innnn. Out.
Lady Nagant stared down the scope and prayed. It held no answers for her, only the silent byplay of two titans talking. Naruto seemed at his ease for now, but that could change. She knew from experience. Life loves to throw its nasty little curveballs when you least expected it.
There would be none for her partner today. She'd make damn sure of that.
She didn't trust these Meta Liberation folks; in some ways, they were even shadier than the HPSC. Sure, they pretended to be above-board, but they did some real dark shit. Her old bosses would've told her to pull the trigger. It brought back bad memories, ghosts that made her rifle arm tremble and left her trigger instinct twitching.
She wasn't a weapon.
But Naruto hadn't asked her to be. She took another deep breath and settled in to wait.
He said she wasn't a weapon. Not their gun. Did he have any idea just how much those words meant to her? For him, she would happily become a killer again.
Because this time, it was her choice.
Lady Nagant loved her new life. She cherished it.
And she wasn't about popping a few heads to keep her happiness.

"Join us."
It was always about the joining, wasn't it?
Everyone wanted him to join them. When would they realize the truth? "You want me to join your army?"
"If direct cooperation troubles you, then perhaps an alliance?" Rikiya remained undaunted. "You've gathered several powerful Quirk users to yourself and we seem to share the same goals. What say you?"
...what kind of alliance?"
"One dedicated to the free use of quirks. Such is a basic human right. Some support our movement while others dismiss us as terrorists, but you!" he clapped his hands together and belted out a laugh. "You've turned the tides. Villains fear you. Heroes hunt you. The very world hinges on your words. Yet the net is closing on you. Surely you realize this."
Not so much as he thought, but he'd let him believe he had the upper hand for now.
...and what do you offer?
"Justice. Protection. Safety. The CEO preened. "We have one one hundred thousand men and women waiting to strike at society and liberate those with with Quirks. Allow me to ask you this." he offered him a hand in lieu of another rant. "Do you think the current system is just?"
"I don't," he allowed.
Any system that allowed children like Tenko and Toya to slip through the cracks wasn't one he believed in. To say nothing of Nagant and Rei...
"And do you believe everyone can be saved?"
"Some, maybe, but not all." he shrugged a smile, recalling his and Nagant's nightly excursions. "Sometimes you help people by healing. Sometimes by killing. Suppose it depends."
"On that we agree. You've saved a great many, but you've also killed just as many villains."
"Only those beyond redemption." he countered.
"Some might argue that Endeavor falls into that category now. Why not kill him?"
That was the question, wasn't it? He could have. He certainly would have been well within his rights, given the situation back then. But he knew his answers. He'd always known. Just as he knew now. And he wasn't about to change his mind. Some might call him a fool for that. Naive. Idealistic. Foolish, even.
But this naive, idealistic fool had already saved one family. And he wasn't about to stop there.
"I believe Endeavor can change." And he did. But it had to be away from his family. "I've given him the chance to learn from his mistakes in solitude and be a better person. Its up to him to take it or not." his lips thinned as a thought occurred to him. "Speaking of changes, I have a question. Sounds to me like you want a regime for the quirks, of the quirks, and by the quirks. Is that correct?"
Rikiya steepled his hands and nodded. "In a sense, yes. You would excel in such a world, I believe."
He shook his head. "I can't agree with that. What of those who are quirkless?"
Rikiya blinked, not quite comprehending. "What about them?"
Ahhh. He inhaled deeply through his nose. So that's how it was; now they came to the truth of the matter. "I can't help but notice that you've consistently failed to mention them. All people have equal value. Even those without quirks."
Re-Destro drew back slowly, almost ponderously. "Do you reject our ideals, then?"
"No, I agree with some of them, but I believe others need to be tweaked."
Rikiya twitched. "Tweaked, you say?
"Hurting civilians for one." Naruto held up a finger and ran roughshod over anything he might've said. "That stops today. If you're going to help people, help the quirkless as well. If you don't, you'll be no better than those you want to overthrow."
...I see." A muscle jumped in the older man's jaw. "Destro's principles have guided us for decades now. And you would thrust them aside because you deem yours to be better? Its starting to sound like you didn't come to join us at all, Uzumaki Naruto, but rather, to inflict your views upon us.
"I came to deal with you. One way or another." He tilted his head to the right. "Which will it be?"
The CEO granted him a death's head grin. "There's no need for sluggish bargaining. I've made my decision.
"Is it the right one?"
"For our organization, yes." his smile didn't waver. "I'm terribly sorry, but you'll have to die now. I'll be sure to apologize to Curious.
In an instant his arm swelled to ten times its size and slammed into his face...
.
..
...at least, that had been his intent.
Naruto caught it with one hand. "Better men than you have tried. Unfortunately for you...
He whirled and pivoted, wrenching that arm behind his back.
...I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty these days."
"You arrogant little...!"
"Lets take this party outside."
He lurched backward and threw himself through the glass, dragging Rikiya with him.
Together, they fell.
(.0.0.0.)
"Of all the reckless...!"
Kaina saw it all from her scope.
"You bastard! You'd better not die!
(.0.0.0.)
A fall like this could not kill him.
Rikiya Yotsubashi forced himself upright, grimacing as he set his shoulder. Their impact had smashed them down into the street proper, birthing a crater in its absence. His entire body ached, feeding his stress, adding yet more to what he'd already stored away. Stress was power. If he thought a little drop like this could do him in, he was sorely mistaken!
But where was the blond brat?
...there you are."
Much to his surprise, Shinobi was already waiting for him as he crested that crater. Arms folded before his chest, feet planted, blue eyes narrow, he looked down at him from on high. As though he were no one. Nothing to him. No, less than nothing, a mere ant beneath the boot of a giant, not even worthy of his notice.
It galled Rikiya.
He was Destro reborn, no, Re-Destro! To think someone like this would exist!
"You cannot stop us." he grinned at him. "We possess innumerable resources and wealth! We will change this world!"
"It sounds like a noble dream." came the reply. "On the surface, at least. But its no dream if you trample over everyone to get it."
"A noble dream, huh?" something cracked inside him and a grin tore across his face. "Perfect timing. I'll test you. If you pass, I'll grant you a quick death."
"Test...?" A blond brow rose. "This the kind of exam I'll be quizzed on?"
Such arrogance...
"Consider it a test of character rather than mental acumen." He raised a finger as his muscles began to bulge. "Once there was a woman who gave birth to a child with a meta ability. This was back when people still had strong prejudices against such things, when the words was in chaos. It was before your time, or mine. An era of unending abuse, overflowing discrimination, and relentless aggression!
He lunged with a snarl on the last word, slamming a massive arm down on him.
Shinobi swayed aside and snapped a kick into his ribs. Three broke in an instant. Rikiya laughed despite himself and doubled over with a laugh.
Stress Output: Seventy Percent.
"When stones were being thrown at her beloved child day after day, she pleaded in a quiet voice to the world-"this is my child's quirk. "Please make this a world where he can live freely!"
An overhand smash forced the bedraggled blond to dodge back or risk being crushed, only for him to conjure a strange spiraling sphere in his palm. Rikiya didn't hesitate and charged him headlong. Whatever manner of quirk that was, it couldn't possibly stand up to his own-
Naruto slammed it headlong into his stomach.
PAIN!
Momentum and velocity were the architects of Rikya's undoing; he grunted as the snarling vortex drove him down, tearing into his body.
A swipe of his right hand banished it, allowing him to stand once more.
"And yet her pleas were drowned in scornful laughter by the masses." he scoffed as he climbed back to his feet, shaking off his injury. "She never raised her voice again. Why is that, do you think? I'll tell you. You see, she was killed by those who opposed meta powers; those who feared her words. Because people fear change!
Eighty percent!
"They do," his foe acknowledged, "But you can't fight fear with fear."
"You can! For you see, as heroes and vigilantes became more popular, the government tried to rectify the situation." try as he might he couldn't hit him, each word brought with it a blow, and yet every time, he matched him, meeting him punch for punch as they wailed on one another. "And so they dug up her appeal while working out the political measures. "A meta ability is part of someone's personality-ergo, a quirk. They're diverse! It changed how people thought!"
He thrust a foot out, kicking his fierce foe away, giving himself a moment to breathe and speak again.
"However, the actual measures that were implemented suppressed meta abilities more than ever!" he slapped a hand to the device at his belt, conveying a singular command to the drones buried beneath his feet. "There's no point in just changing the name! If only made people avoid using their powers, Uzumaki Naruto!"
At his command, a suit of armor burst fort from the earth and wrapped around his body. This was Detnerat Patented Burden-Amplifying Steel Pressure Mechanism: Claustro, or simply Claustro for short. With it, it he could amplify his stress far beyond the normal. The armor enfolded his giant body and bit down, enhancing him yet more for the fight to come.
One Hundred and Ten Percent!
"If people can't use their power freely, then it isn't true freedom, wouldn't you agree?" Their fists collided again, rattling the world around them. "Destro thought, this isn't the future my mother wanted. Meta abilities must be able to be called quirks in the truest sense of the word! It was an inconvenient truth for them, you see!
ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY PERCENT!
Here at last he caught Naruto with a lucky grab, ripping the slippery Shinobi off the ground.
"Do you understand now why Destro was was wanted for so much?" he tightened his grip on him, crushing him within a giant fist. "Revolting against the country! True freedom! Bearing all of that, I will accomplish Destro's dream! Me! I am his descendant! His legacy! His blood flows through my veins! I am Re-Destro!" he glowered down at his entrapped victim, inexorably grinding his bones down. "Do you really think this crusade of yours carries more weight than ours?
A low rumble of laughter reached him.
"Crusade? Legacy? Weight?" Naruto raised his head. Blue eyes stared back at him without so much as a hint of fear. "I'm not fighting for anything like that." He popped his shoulder, and quite suddenly, his heft arm was free, then his right. Firm fingers bit down into the darkened skin of his hand, hard enough to draw blood. "I'm just trying to do what I think is right."
Rikiya scowled at him. "And what, pray tell, do you deem to be right? Enlighten me."
Naruto answered immediately, almost speaking over him. "I don't know."
Just like that, Re-Destro felt his Stress falter. "...what?"
"I do what I think is right. That's all." as he looked on, the blond's body snapped into a shimmering shade of gold. "What I consider right might be wrong for some, but that doesn't matter. If you see something and think, hey, that's wrong, you step in. If you see a woman crying you help her. If I a villain kidnapping KIDS you break their legs. I follow my own moral code. That's it."
The words rattled him. "How can you cal that freedom?"
"How can you not?" His captive retorted. ""Seems to me you're the one weighed down by the past. You're not free."
Realization broke like the dawn.
.
..
...he was right.
Ah. He understood now.
This warrior, this shining man, embodied true freedom. He wasn't bound by rules or restrictions or regulations, or even the past. Rather, he did what he felt was right. Nothing more, nothing less. He saved and destroyed. He loved and he hated. He spared and slayed. It was not suppression, but freedom in its purest form. His strength allowed him to excel in nearly every field, but it was his choices that defined him .
"My turn."
His fingers snapped as Naruto forced himself free.
Heavy boots struck the ground for all of an instant; then he was upon him.
The first punch shattered his armor, taking his defenses with it. The second found his gut and would've disemboweled him if not for his quirk. The third blasted the breath from his lungs, leaving him wasted and gasping for air. The fourth found his chin and blasted him onto his back. They kept coming! Five and six! Seven and eight! NINE! He tried to stand, tried to weather the storm, stray strong and fight the good fight...but he couldn't. His body buckled beneath the blows at and his quirk went with it, leaving him to shrivel back to his normal size.
With the absence of his quirk the pain became too much; Rikiya crumpled to his knees, clutching his sides.
Was this what defeat felt like? He'd been bested, completely and utterly.
Such a refreshing feeling. He couldn't remember the last time...
"You don't seem to understand." The blond loomed over him, casting him in his golden shadow. "Hero? Villain? When on earth did I ever claim to be any one of those things?
What nonsense was this?! Surely he had...oh. Oh, dear. He hadn't, had he?
...that's right." Naruto's smile grew. "I didn't. Nope. Not once. I've only ever been one thing. A shinobi. As you're about to learn." he reached down, grabbed him by the scruff of his neck and hauled him upright. "Earlier ya said I was a long way from home. You know, you're right. I definitely am. Unfortunately for you...
His right arm wound back, with intent. Muscles bunched visibly in his sleeve.
...I'm here to stay. Now, then! CLENCH YOUR TEETH."
Scarred knuckles barreled headlong into his face.
Re-Destro blacked out with a smile.

You can work with me and try to make the world a better place for you and yours...or you can live in the past. Stagnant. Forgotten. Its your choice. I can't force you.
...did I just accidentally get an army...?"
Something struck him. Distracted as he was, Naruto sensed the danger a second too late; by then it was over.
"YOU MAGNIFICENT BASTARD!"
Curious absolutely cackled as leaped on him, locked her legs around his waist and drove him down to the ground. Something soft slammed against his mouth. Her tongue plundered his for a brief moment, then she was done, drawing back with a happy sound was she smacked her lips. "Take me now!
"HA?!"
"Um...I mean, that was amazing! Did you plan that all along?!
The child she'd inadvertently saved laughed and clapped their hands. "Giant mommy!"
Mount Lady balked. "Eh?!"
The she saw him. HIM. Her heart leaped into her throat.
"Wait, wait, wait! I wasn't trying to start anything! Honest!"
Naruto slapped his forehead. "Here we go again...
Mirko tilted her head. Tilted it some more, now.
Naruto quirked a brow. "Can I help you?"
...I thought you'd be taller."
He twitched. "Ha?"
"Eh, doesn't matter. Can you fight?"
"I don't think I should answer that question-OI!"
His hand snapped up, catching her by the ankle when she tried to smash her heel into his head.
Her grin was wild. "And there he is!"
...good job, Izuku. Why don't you go play with Fuyumi for a bit?"
"M'kay!"
"You're good with him...
"Go on, then." they smiled at him as he dragged himself upright. "Pretend to be everything you are not. Teacher. Husband. Father. You cannot change. "I see the real you, the beast inside." that soulless smile became a mad grin now as they stabbed a finger his way. "You act all high and mighty, but you're not! You're just an animal. Passing on your cruelty and rage. You will never change. You will always be a monster.
...then you don't know me."
"I know enough. You weaken yourself with this "family" of yours.
"And who are you to say that? Everything I do, I do for my family. For those I swore to protect."
"Surrender. Society demands it.
He cracked his neck. "No."
"...Good."
