"Ivy talking looks like this."
Faye taking to Ivy in her mind looks like this.
"Faye talking out loud looks like this."
Chapter 11: Sneaking a Peek
It's been about a year since I shifted, which makes me ten years old now, my birthday passed in August. I grew a bit but thankfully I still fit my clothes.
Ivy and I celebrated by making the best meat meal and watching the stars. During the year, Ivy and I practiced switching control back and forth, and now she can take over my human body! I've been getting better with shifting into our wolf form, and now I can shift quite fast and easily.
I've also been practicing my shapeshifting, so far I could change into many different animals such as birds, squirrels, raccoons, deer, a bear, and Ivy's worst nightmare, a cat.
I've been antsy lately, it's been too long since I've been able to put stuff together and take it apart, I will even settle for some Legos at this point.
I looked at my calendar, Today is March 7, 2003. Only two more years before Bella comes, I sigh, not that I don't like living in the woods with Ivy, it's fun! Although it would be interesting to see what's going on in forks, I can't because of the restriction.
"Why can't you?" Ivy asked tilting her head, I shook my head at her question.
"You know why, the restriction says I'm not allowed to… wait."
I focus on pulling my spell book out of my shadow opening the page to restrictions and rereading the page, must wait until Bella arrives at Forks before talking to the other characters, may observe them, but cannot talk to them unless they talk to you first.
"Yeah, it says that can't talk to them but you can observe them and it should be easy since you can hide your presence and scent."
"Ivy, you are a genius!" I tell her putting the spell book back into my shadow.
"I know!" Ivy replied with a proud smug look on her face.
Although I don't want to talk to them yet at least I can see what they are doing and maybe return their ball, I thought to myself forgetting that I could send my thoughts and Ivy could hear.
"Just turn into an animal and return it, just probably not our wolf form they might think that we are one of the wolves from La Push."
I nodded my head in agreement and started to think about what animal I should turn into.
"How about a bird to fly over there that way I can hold the ball, then a raccoon to hide on or behind a tree to observe them?" I asked Ivy, but also thinking out loud.
"Anything other than a cat" , Ivy shivered and I laughed going to grab the baseball and walk outside.
I set the baseball down, closed my eyes, and focused on erasing my presence and scent, then I grabbed the baseball again and walked to the stream.
"What are you doing?"
I dunk the ball in the water.
"Erasing my scent from the ball before we return it."
While cleaning the ball I explained to her, "Vampires have a good sense of smell which means if I return it as is they will smell us on it."
"Hmm, that's smart!"
I smiled, nodded my head, and pulled the ball out of the water, smelling it, it smelled like fresh water.
Perfect.
I walked back to the front of the house setting the ball on the floor and focused on transforming. It took a bit of time but I finally managed to turn into a Swallow-Tailed Kite, a bird that's native to Forks.
I shook off my feathers and looked towards the ball, grabbing it with my talons. I looked back at the cabin, before finally taking off in the air and exiting my barrier, leaving the woods for the first time.
I felt the barrier wall as I passed through it, I reminded myself of the location of the cabin and how to get back. Ivy helped me use my nose to find the scents of vampires. She says that they smell kind of sickly sweet and they should be easy to smell, I nodded and tried to pinpoint which way it was coming from. Once I had the scent I followed it to where the smell was the strongest.
I ended up flying to a nice house in the woods and figured this must be their house. There didn't seem like anyone was inside and the cars weren't in the driveway.
So I figured that they weren't home and I perched myself on a branch and waited.
Soon enough some cars pulled into the driveway and I hid behind a branch. I watched each person get out of the different cars.
The first to get out of their car was a man and a woman. The man had a professional aura to him like he was in a high position, that must have been Carlisle as he held out his hand to help the woman out of the car. The woman smiled at him as a thanks as I leaned closer to see her better. The woman had brown hair and kind eyes, this must be Esme. I watched as they headed inside the house.
There was a yellow Porsche where a short vampire that had a pixie cut came out along with a blond vampire man. That must be Alice and Jasper, I thought to myself, staring while they went inside, Alice looked like she was floating on air as she walked.
Next, I saw a man get out of his car and storm towards the house. All I saw was that brown messy hair and figured it was probably Edward. I wonder why he was so upset. Bella shouldn't be here yet. I shook my head and looked at the last car.
Last but not least the last car, I watched as a large man with a wide smile on his face exited the car walked to the driver's side, and playfully bowed with his hand extended, that must be Emmett as I shook my head at how funny he acted. I saw a hand emerge from the car and grab his, long blond hair blew in the wind as she got out with a roll of her eyes, this must be Rosalie.
I can't believe this is real! It's really them!
I heared Ivy clear her throat as I watched the last vampires walk inside.
"Aren't you forgetting something?"
Oh yeah, the ball, I completely forgot about that.
How to do this?
I flew off the branch and into the woods behind their house and turned into a raccoon. I could hear the piano playing and chatting inside the house as I walked closer. I grabbed a couple of pebbles and hid behind the closest tree.
"Umm, what are you doing," Ivy asked confused by my actions.
Just watch, I told her and threw a pebble at the back door.
The music stopped and everything went silent. I heared a girl's voice say, "Did you guys hear that?"
"it was probably just an animal walking in the woods," I heard a man reply.
Well, that won't do.
I threw another pebble at the backdoor, this time harder.
"See, there it was again, I'm going to check it out, it sounds like it's coming from the backdoor," the same voice said.
"Hold on, we will come with you," this time another male voice replied.
Soon all the vampires came outside. Alice and Carlisle came out looking curious, Jasper looked defensive like he was expecting a fight, Edward walked out sulking, and Esme looked worried. Emmemt walked out looking excited as Rosalie came out looking bored with her arms crossed.
I saw Carlisle look down, picking up a pebble I threw. "Hello?" Carlisle called out looking into the woods.
This was it.
I took a deep breath and rolled the ball at his feet.
I watched as the ball rolled from the bushes and stopped at Carlisle's feet.
I saw the confusion on each of their faces, as Carlisle carefully picked up the ball and turned toward his family showing them what it was.
"A baseball?" Esme asked looking closer.
I could see the recognition appear on her face. "Didn't we lose a ball last year?" She turned and asked her family, I watched as the recognition appeared on their faces as well.
"Yeah, didn't Eddie lose it?" I saw Emmett ask nudging Edward, If he could blush, Edward's face would be bright red as he made an embarrassed expression with a bit of anger mixed in. "No I didn't lose it, it just disappeared out of nowhere," he exclaimed shaking his head.
Carlisle cleared his throat bringing the attention back to him, and looked back into the woods, "Well, it's back now, I am just wondering who gave it back."
I saw all of them turn to Alice and ask her if she sees anything in her visions, she tries and shakes her head. They then ask Edward if he hears any thoughts coming from the woods. He looked frustrated for a moment before shaking his head. It must be my gift reflecting theirs.
I smiled to myself, as they turned towards the woods in confusion.
Well, this was entertaining! Time to head home, I say to Ivy, taking a couple of steps back quietly and heading deeper into the woods before shifting back into a bird and flying off, heading home.
Before I left the area, I heard Emmett declare, "Well, there's got to be someone out there, even I know things don't just come back on their own."
Well, there was, but not anymore!
I jokingly thought to myself and sent my thoughts to Ivy as I heard her laugh.
Soon I arrived home and checked the traps before draining a rabbit, making the rabbit for dinner, and going to bed.
