Chapter 23: Doctor Faye and Nurse Ivy

I could feel the dirt and rocks in my paws as I ran as fast as I can. I could also hear some footsteps in the far distance trying to follow us. I smelled the air to see who it was and realized it was Edward.

Shit.

Thankfully, I still had my scent blocked, but I realized he was following Robyn's scent. We were some distance away so I stopped and slowly slid Robyn off my back. She looked at me confused as to why we stopped.

"Faye?"

There's got to be a way to hide her scent.

With quick thinking, I grabbed some dirt and rubbed it all over her.

I took a deep breath trying to smell her scent. Thankfully all I smelt was dirt. I nodded my head for my quick thinking.

Faye, we have to change. We will get caught if we continue the way back as a bear! We are not quick enough.

I know, I know. I'm working on it.

Something fast, Something big enough to carry Robyn…

I have an idea, but Ivy won't like it.

But I don't have a choice!

Sorry about this, Ivy…

No.

No way.

Can't you pick anything else?!

No, sorry. This is the only thing I can think of and Edward is catching up quickly!

Fine, just make it quick, but once we get back you better change!

I close my eyes and focus on changing quickly. I could feel my limbs become slimmer and my tail grow. I opened my eyes to see my transformation completed. Robyn let out a gasp to see that I was now a Jaguar.

Not the fastest cat in the world, but it will have to do.

I would have chosen a Cheetah, but they are kind of small so I was afraid that Robyn wouldn't fit on my back.

"Faye, you have some explaining to do, young lady!"

Yeah, yeah I will. But first, we have to get out of here! Edward is catching up. Get on my back.

She nodded her head with determination and quickly stumbled on my back. Once she was secured, we took off again, this time outrunning Edward.

Soon enough we reached the barrier I put up.

Shit, I forgot about that.

I remembered the spell I created and made a slight alteration.

From earth below to trees so high,

Let only Robyn and I pass by.

For others who seek to find this trail,

Turn them around, let their efforts fail.

May they lose their way, safe and sound,

As we alone tread this hallowed ground.

I cast the spell quickly to allow Robyn entrance and slowly walked in making sure it worked. As soon as I passed the barrier and felt Robyn still on my back, I figured it worked and took off towards the cabin.

We got to the door when I figured out a slight problem with becoming a Jaguar.

I don't have thumbs to open the door.

Robyn? Do you think you can open the door? It will take me a while to turn back into a human. Too much adrenaline.

I felt her nod into my fur before struggling to stand. I felt her hand rest on my back to keep her standing which I didn't mind as I helped by leaning into her hand and legs. I felt her rub my head in appreciation.

I helped walk her over to the couch. As she lay down, Ivy spoke up.

Okay, we are home now. Can you please transform into something else?! I know you can't transform back into a human yet but can you change into something other than a cat?

Fine, Fine! Got any recommendations?

Anything, but a cat.

I let out a snort at her advice.

Robyn, how about you?

"You can transform into any animal?"

I nod my head as she seems to think about it for a moment, before pointing to her bloody head.

"How about a type of monkey or a raccoon? I could really use some help with this, and having an extra set of thumbs would come in handy!"

I nodded my head and closed my eyes.

Monkey…

A type of monkey…..

Big enough to help….

But not too strong to hurt.

I thought of the different monkeys I knew.

I felt my body begin to shrink as I thought of a good choice.

A Ring-Tailed lemur.

Not too big, not too small.

I open my eyes and look at my hands.

Yep, lemur hands.

I look up to see Robyn looking down at me with awe.

I quickly jumped onto her lap and put my pointer finger up.

Follow my finger.

She nodded her head as she followed my finger from left to right.

Okay, that looks good. Stay here, I'll be back.

"Okay."

I jumped off her lap and took off toward the bathroom. I think I saw a first aid kit under the sink. I never drew attention to it before because I never thought I would need it.

How wrong I was…

Thankfully the bathroom door was cracked so I could just push it open. I grabbed the first aid kit and dragged it back to Robyn who at this point was lying down on her side.

She must have heard me dragging the kit because she turned her head cautiously toward the sound. Once she saw it was only me, she relaxed a bit before sitting up.

I hauled the first-aid kit over to the couch, but when I realized it was too heavy to jump with, I set it down beside the couch and leaped onto Robyn's lap again instead. I glanced up at her, then shifted my gaze to the kit.

Can you give me a hand? I can't lift it on my own.

She smiled at my unfortunate predicament, then nodded, slowly bent down, and placed the first-aid kit on the couch before opening it. As she reached for the alcohol pads, I swatted her hands aside and grabbed them myself.

She let out an amused snort as I did.

What? I just needed help getting it up here. I can handle the rest.

Without waiting for her to respond, I stood up on her lap and wiped the blood from her forehead.

I tilted her head down and brushed her hair aside to inspect the wound. Fortunately, it wasn't too bad, but I still cleaned it with an alcohol wipe. As I did, she clenched her eyes shut and let out a quiet hiss. I quickly grabbed the elastic bandage and started to wrap it around her head before taping the end with medical tape.

She cracked one eye open and smiled.

"Will I live, Doctor Faye?

I gave her a thoughtful look by putting my thumb on my chin before saying playfully.

I'm confident you'll make a full recovery—just try to avoid any more feisty or moody vampires!

Anything to add, Nurse Ivy?

Yes! Eat lots of meat! It will help you regain your strength and it tastes good!

She let out a laugh before yawning.

"Well, Doc? Do you think I'm okay to take a nap?"

I thought about it for a moment. I heard that when you have a concussion you should stay awake for a couple of hours. It's been about one to two hours since we ran away and she hasn't thrown up yet so that's good.

Yeah, it should be fine. If you feel like you are going to puke let me know.

She nodded her head before lying on her back and putting her arm over her eyes. She looked so comfortable that I couldn't resist joining her.

I settled onto her stomach, surprising her. She smiled, let out a contented sigh, and gently placed her hand on my fur, softly petting me.

"Faye?"

Yeah?

"Don't think I forgot about our talk."

At that, Ivy busted out laughing.
