I don't own Vampire Diaries. The show and any other references I will use in the story will belong to their rightful owners. I don't gain anything from my stories. Just the joy of writing them. I do own my OC, Harmony, who is based on multiple things I love. In this fanfic story, however, I had the idea of having my OC be asthmatic. She is also an Angel (no really she is). My muse for my OC is Chloe Grace Moretz (See story picture to see how she looks like in the story).
Chapter 1 - Pilot
Hi, my name is Harmony "Songbird" Gilbert, the little sister of Elena Gilbert and twin sister to Jeremy Gilbert. Anyways, things about me you should know is that I am asthmatic, a straight "A" student, I volunteer in many community service activities and events, and can play multiple instruments. I used to sing, but only for my parents. I am also scared of the dark so I still sleep with a night light. I am also an orphan. My parents died a couple of months ago. My big sister was the only one in the car that survived. I don't hate my sister, but I can't deny that there is some resentment deep down. My parents went to pick up my sister who snuck out for a party only to call them to pick her up. I also admit that the rest of my family as spiraled out of control. Uncle John is God only knows where. Aunt Jenna, though doing her best, is having difficulties in being our guardian. My twin brother, Jeremy, turned to drugs and alcohol. And my sister, Elena, who tries to control everything thinking she knows best for everyone while writing in her diary every day. Me... I grieved in a more positive way. I dedicate my time to continue living my life to the best of my abilities because that is what my parents would want me to do. I continue to spend my time volunteering and doing community service, keep my straight"A" grades at school, practice my music, and the most important thing I do is making sure I take care of myself. It doesn't mean that I don't want to just break down and cry. It still hurts that they're gone. However, I know that if I allow myself to stop living my life I don't know if I will ever get better.
~ Harmony P.O.V. ~
It is the first day of school, and I am standing in front of my Distressed White Morgan Cheval Mirror checking my outfit for the day. I decided that for the first day of school I am going to wear a white long-sleeved crop top with a purple high waist skater skirt, and black ballet flats. My hair is curled into soft waves half pinned up, with a few strands framing my face, and light makeup (mascara and lip gloss).
Grabbing my backpack, I then went to my five instrument cases and decided to practice my cello today. Carrying my stuff downstairs, I stopped by the kitchen to see Aunt Jenna frantically running around the kitchen. I greeted her as Elena entered the kitchen.
"Toast! I can make a toast!" Aunt Jenna said to my amusement.
"It's all about the coffee Aunt Jenna," Elena said pouring herself coffee.
"Is there coffee?" My twin said as he entered the kitchen stealing Elena's cup.
It's your first day of school and I am totally unprepared," Aunt Jenna said.
By this time, I had snuck the meals I had made the night before into my siblings' bags and was grabbing Aunt Jenna's share.
"Lunch money?" Aunt Jenna offered.
Elena and I refused when Jeremy grabbed the money. I rolled my eyes at that. He knows there will be a lunch ready for him in his bag already.
"What am I missing?" Aunt Jenna said pausing.
"Don't you have a presentation today?" Elena said.
"I'm meeting with my Thesis Advisor at... now. Crap," Aunt Jenna said as she was starting to panic.
"We got it from here Aunt Jenna. Go, we will be fine," I told her walking up to her.
I showed her the two packed bags, before putting it in her main bag.
"One bag has a breakfast sandwich I made and lunch is leftover pasta I made last night. The other is my special snacks to keep your energy throughout your day. Oh! I almost forgot your thermos of my special smoothie," I told her with a smile and quickly hugged her, "Love you, Aunt Jenna. Good luck at school."
Aunt Jenna gave me a thankful smile and said as she left, "You're a lifesaver. Thank you. Love you too."
Elena then turned to Jeremy and said, "You okay?"
Jeremy just rolled his eyes at her.
"Don't start," he said while finishing his coffee.
When he left, Elena turned to me. I just gave a sad smile.
"I miss them, Elena. A lot, but I will be okay as time passes," I told her truthfully, "By the way, I packed a lunch for you and Jeremy. I already put it in your bags while you were talking."
Elena smiled back at me.
"Thank you," she told me.
"Well, I'm going to head out," I told her packing up my breakfast, lunch, and snacks in my bag.
"You want to ride with me and Bonnie?" Elena asked.
"I'm good. I am taking my bike," I told her.
Before I was out of the door, I made sure to have my inhaler. Don't want an attack.
When I made it to school I headed for my locker, which was next to my sister's, and placed my lunch inside as Bonnie and Elena showed up. I tuned out their conversation until I heard Elena comment on how Matt hates her.
"He doesn't hate you, Elena. He will never hate you. He's not like that," I told her.
"Har is right, Elena. That doesn't mean hate. That's, 'you dumped me, but I'm to cool to show it. But secretly, I'm listening to air supplies greatest hits'," Bonnie said.
"Elena! Harmony! OMG!" Caroline Forbes, my favorite female blonde, came up and hugged us, "It's so good to see you both. How are they? Are they good?"
"Caroline, we're right here. And we're fine. Thank you," Elena answered for us.
Caroline looked at me.
"Really?" She asked me.
"Yes, much better," I said with a look that told her we will talk later.
Caroline gave us one more hug before leaving. I looked at my schedule and found out that, because of my grades/IQ, I get to skip my sophomore year and start my Junior classes. One is History with Mr. Tanner, and I had that class with Elena and Bonnie. My train of thought broke when I heard Bonnie speak again.
"Hold up. Who's this?" She said stopping me and Elena.
When I turned to see who she was looking at and said, "Another boy that will catch the eyes of Caroline."
"All I see is back," Elena said giving me a look.
"It's a hot back," Bonnie said, "I'm sensing Seattle, and he plays the guitar."
Elena and I laughed at that statement.
"You're really going to run this psychic thing into the ground?" Elena said.
That confused me. What did she mean psychic? Was Bonnie psychic?
"Pretty much," Bonnie said.
Then, Elena suddenly excused herself, and I left Bonnie to head to History to find a seat. When I got there, Mr. Tanner was already inside. I greeted him nicely as I walked up to him and asked if there was signed seating or if we were able to pick our seats.
"There isn't assigned seating Miss Gilbert. You may sit anywhere as long as you don't slack off in my class. I expect you to keep up with your grades," He told me.
"Of course. Thank you, sir," I replied kindly before sitting in the middle front.
After getting my notebook out, I took out my music book and began reading until the class started. When the class did start, I received a text message and was able to discreetly see it was from Bonnie. She texted how the new "HAWTE" was looking at Elena. I sighed because I knew she was lucky to even keep a guy's attention on her. Sure, I like being alone to practice my music, but I would like a romantic relationship as well.
During lunch, Caroline made me promise that I would go to the Grill after school. I promised to go after practicing my cello, while Elena writes in her journal at the graveyard.
~ At the Gilbert House ~
I was just finishing getting ready when Elena asked if I was ready to go. I said that I was and before leaving my room I went to my mirror to look at the outfit I decided to wear for the Grill: A sleeveless pink skater dress with black nylons, a black cardigan, and my black ballet flats. My hair and makeup were still good from this morning. I headed downstairs with my black bag to see the new guy. He looked at me shocked and wide-eyed and I gave him a smile (not a flirty one).
"Hey. Stefan right?" I asked and when he nodded I continued, "I didn't introduce myself before, but I'm Harmony Gilbert. Nice to meet you."
"Stefan Salvatore. Nice to meet you too," he replied politely after he snapped out of his shock.
"Now, don't take this the wrong way, but why are you here?" I asked.
"I was returning your sister's journal," Stefan said.
"Oh, that was nice of you... We were just heading to the Grill. Do you want to come?" I asked.
"Sure, Elena asked me also," he said.
"Okay, I'm ready. Let's go," Elena said.
We then left for the Grill.
~ At the Grill ~
When we made it to the Grill, I quickly found Caroline and the others and went to them. Then, as we all sat down and began to talk, you can feel the tension. With Caroline trying to get Stefan's attention to her, while he was mostly focused on me and Elena. I wasn't trying to have him focus on me. I hardly knew him, and sure he was good looking and all but he isn't my type.
"So, you were born in Mystic Falls?" Caroline began her investigation.
"Yup and moved while I was still young," Stefan said.
"Parents?" Bonnie asked.
"My parents passed away," Stefan said and my heart went out to him.
"I'm sorry," Elena said.
"Any siblings?" I asked.
"None that I talked to," Stefan said, "I live with my uncle."
"So Stefan. If you're new then you don't know about the party tomorrow," Caroline brought the conversation back to her.
"It's a back to school thing at the falls," Bonnie added.
Stefan looked at us.
"Are you two going?" He asked us.
"Of course they are," Bonnie answered for us, "Yes, Har! You are going!"
I huffed and said, "I have to practice my music, and I promised that I will volunteer at the hospital tomorrow."
"Well, then take a break from your music. I bet you're volunteering right after school, so you can still hang with us," Bonnie said.
After a moment of having a staring contest and gave in.
"Fine. I guess I have no choice," I said.
The conversation went on and on, and I knew that we were assigned reading from Mr. Tanner so I pulled out my history book and began to read. No one questioned me. Though I did get a questioned look from everyone in the table.
~ After the Grill ~
When I got home, I quickly made food for lunch tomorrow like I did today. Then I took a quick shower before changing into my Pikachu onesie pajamas. I turned off the main light of my room leaving my night light (which gives a starry night in the ceiling) and laid down on my bed. As I began to dose off, a heard my door open and close. Then, I felt my bed dip and warm arms wrapped around my waist from behind. I already knew who it was.
"Jeremy? What's wrong?" I asked a bit drowsy.
He was quiet for a bit before answering.
"I wanted to thank you for packing my lunch. You didn't have to," he said to me.
I turned to face him. His arms still around me.
"I know I didn't have too, but I wanted too," I told him.
We stared at each other for a moment more before he brought me close.
"Thank you," he said.
"I will always be here for you Jer-Jer," I told him.
Before I officially fell asleep I felt my twin kiss my forehead and leave my room.
~ Stefan's P.O.V. ~
I was putting on a shirt when my nephew Zack walked in.
"You promised," He said to me.
I grabbed the newspaper that was in his hand. After looking at it I said, "This was an animal attack."
"Don't give me that. I know the game. You tear them up enough so they will always suspect it was an animal attack," Zack said, "I thought you said you had it under control."
"And I do," I told him.
"Please uncle Stefan. Mystic Falls is a different place now. It has been for years. Whether or not people still remember. You being here is only going to stir things up," Zack said.
"It's not my attention," I said.
"Then what is? Why come back after all these years? Why now?" Zack said.
"I don't have to explain myself," I told him.
"I know that you can't change who you are, but you don't belong here anymore," Zack told me.
"Where do I belong?" I told him.
"I can't tell you what to do," Zack said, "But coming back here was a mistake."
~ The Next Morning ~
~ Harmony's P.O.V. ~
I got dressed in a black skater skirt with a white spaghetti strap shirt, a creme cardigan, and my black ballet flats. Makeup as always was simple, and my hair was in a high ponytail. I was up earlier than usual, and way before everyone else so I managed to make pancakes for breakfast. By the time I was finished, my family was awake.
"Hey eat up guys. I made pancakes," I told them.
We all served our portion and ate breakfast. It was a bit awkward, but I missed the family nights. When that was over and done I took out everyone's lunch and passed it to them. They all gave me their thanks and went to get their stuff for the day. Today I wasn't taking an instrument to school since I was volunteering after school before the party. When I arrived at school from my bike, I locked it in the bike section and headed to my locker to drop off my lunch before heading to class.
~ Class Starting ~
"The Battle of Willow Creek took place right at the end of the war in our very own Mystic Falls," Mr. Tanner began, "How many casualties resulted at the end of this battle?"
Bonnie was his first victim to get "Tannered."
"Miss Bennet," Mr. Tanner called.
"Um, a lot," she replied, "I'm sure but like a whole lot."
"Cute becomes dumb in an instant, Miss Bennet," Mr. Tanner said before calling Matt, "Mr. Donovan, would you like to take this opportunity to overcome your embedded jock stereotype?"
"It's okay Mr. Tanner. I'm cool with it," He said making people laugh.
I raised my hand.
"Miss Gilbert," he said acknowledging me.
"There were 346 casualties. Not including the local civilians," I said.
"That is correct. I'm glad you didn't let obvious reasons in the summer stop you from learning. Though there weren't any civilian casualties," he said making my heart drop a bit at the indirect comment about my parents' death.
I looked down a bit hurt at the jab and the fact that I was right when he said I was wrong. I had a knight stand up for me though.
"Actually sir, she's right. There were 27. Confederate soldiers, they fired on a church. Believe it to be housing weapons, but they were wrong," Stefan said," It was a night of great loss."
Mr. Tanner did not look happy that he was being corrected by a student.
"The Founder's Archives are stored in Civil Hall if you would like to brush up on your facts Mr. Tanner," Stefan continued and everyone either laughed or gasped at his jab at a teacher.
I turned to him briefly and mouthed a thank you before focussing on the class.
~ After School at the Hospital ~
I greeted everyone as I was given a coat and gloves.
"Today, we just need you to help with sorting these piles of cloth. Once you are done, you can leave to get ready for the back to school party," the nurse I was helping said.
" Thank you," I told her gratefully.
It took me about an hour to finish (hey! there was a lot of cloth). When I got home I took a shower and got ready for the party. I was wearing a red mock-neck long-sleeved tube top with dark blue jeans, and a dark blue puffer vest. I am going to wear brown boots that stopped mid-calf. My hair was in a messy low bun, with a few strands to frame my face. Like makeup with the difference being red matte lipstick and liquid eyeliner, and a pair of ruby-colored earrings in the shape of a teardrop. Once I was finished I went to the kitchen to stuff some snacks in the pockets of my vest and bag with water before leaving with my sister.
~ At the Party ~
When we got there, I quickly found Matt and hung out with him. I don't drink, so I refused all the offers pulling on a water bottle from my bag. I later was walking around by myself when Stefan walked up to me with a smile. I smiled back at him.
"You came," he said, "I didn't think this was your type of scene."
"It isn't, but I promised that I would come and I always keep my word," I told him.
It was then that I heard my sister's voice calling for help.
"Somebody help!" Elena said.
"Vicki? Vicki! What the hell?!" Matt's voice can be heard.
"What happened to her?" Tyler said.
"Somebody call an ambulance!" Matt yelled.
I pulled out my phone call an ambulance as I walked to where my siblings are.
"Everbody back up! Give her some space!" Tyler yelled.
"It's her neck, something bit her! She's losing a lot of blood! It's bad!" Elena said.
I had just got off the phone and ripped my sleeves off my shirt so I can wrap it around Vicki's neck. I held pressure on the wound and looked up at Matt.
"I just got off the phone. Help is coming Matt, but you need to talk to her. Make sure she is still conscious," I told him.
Matt did what I said, as I focused on my breathing. I didn't need to add an asthma attack to this night.
Realizing my situation, Elena tried to put her arm around me.
"No! Don't touch me! I'm fine," I told her.
Paramedics and the police arrived, and my siblings and I were waiting for our Aunt Jenna to pick us up.
~Meanwhile~
~ Stefan's P.O.V. ~
I ran to my house. Once inside, Zack asked what was wrong.
"Someone else was attacked tonight Zack, and it wasn't me," I told him before running upstairs.
I entered my room when a crow flew in through the open window. Turning my gaze to the window, I said the name of someone who I know will cause trouble.
"Damon," I said.
"Hello, brother," he told me smirking.
"Crow's a bit much. Don't you think?" I asked him.
"You should see what I can do with the fog,' he simply replied.
'When you'd get here?" I asked trying to find out why he was here.
"Well, I couldn't miss your first day of school," he told me, "Your hair is different. I like it."
"It's been 15 years, Damon," I told him.
"Thank god. I couldn't take another day of the '90s," he said making me angry, "That whole grunge look. Did not suit you. Remember Stefan, its important to stay away from the feds."
"Why are you here?" I asked again.
"I miss my little brother," he said.
"You hate small towns. It's boring. There's nothing for you to do," I told him.
"I managed to keep myself busy," he told me.
"You left that girl alive tonight. Mmhm. That's very clumsy of you," I told him.
"Ah, that could be a problem... For you," He told me.
"Why are you here now?" I asked him once again.
"I can ask you the same question. However, I'm pretty sure your answer can be summed up into three little words... Elena and Harmony," he told me smirking, "Took my breath away. Elena. She's a dead ringer to Katherine, and little Harmony reminds me so much of our little sister. Does it work Stefan? Being around them in their world. Does it make you feel alive?"
"She's not Katherine, and Harmony isn't are sister. They're both human," I told him.
"Well, let's hope she isn't like Katherine. We both know that ended," Damon said as he walked up to me, "Tell me something when was the last time you had something stronger than a squirrel?"
"I know what you're doing Damon. It's not going to work," I told him trying to walk away.
"Come on!" Damon said shoving me a bit, "Don't you crave a little?"
"Stop it," I said only to be shoved again.
"Come on. Let's do it together," Damon said, "I saw a couple of girls. Or you know what? Why not cut to the chase. Let's go after Elena." (A/N: see how he didn't say Harmony)
I shoved him away from me.
"Stop it!" I yelled.
"Imagine what her blood tastes like," Damon continued.
I turned my head feeling my vampire face slowly show.
"I can," Damon said.
Turning to face Damon I yelled, "I said stop!" Before tackling him outside.
(A/N: I am not going to continue the conversation. We all know how it ended.)

~ Harmony's P.O.V. ~
When we got home I had to take another shower to get rid of the blood. After I was done, I changed into my Pikachu onesie and went to the kitchen where I made sandwiches for everyone's lunch tomorrow. I sighed and cleaned up my mess before heading to my room. I stopped, however, and went to Jeremy's room. I got in his bed and wrapped my arms around him. He turned towards me and wrapped me in his arms. Then we slept like that.
