I don't own Vampire Diaries, or any other references I will use for the story. I only own my OC, Harmony.
This chapter along with the 10th chapter was mostly about Jeremy. Because he will soon learn about vampires and what Elena did to him.
Chapter 11- Bloodlines
~ Jeremy's P.O.V. ~
I was in the library trying to find a book for my research paper. Normally, I would have Harmony with me, but I am still not really talking to her at the moment. I don't know what to make of her. Is she going crazy? Do I tell Jenna? So many questions, but I have a paper to focus on.
Browsing an aisle a couple of books almost hit me and when I went to pick it up a cute girl appeared.
"Oh my god. I am so sorry. There was this one book wedged between the other, and then I pulled and then kerplunk, kaboom. Are you okay?" the girl said.
"Yeah, I'm fine," I said as we both went to pick up more books.
We ended up head butting each other.
Laughing she introduced herself, "I'm Anna."
"Jeremy," I said.
She then decided to help me find my books.
"This aisle is local and state history," She said to me, "And a civil war is one over. What do you need?"
"Local, 1860's. Do you work here?" I asked her.
"Nope. You want a reference. This way," Anna said, "Uh, homeschooled. I studied here for a mock school environment. Ah, here we go. Original settlers, town archives, founders stuff. It's all here. So, what's your topic?"
"Uh, town's fear and hysteria surrounding the war," I told her, "and how it influenced certain writers of the time."
"You might want to focus that," Anna said.
"The origin of folklore and myths," I said.
"Hmm. You mean vampires?" Anna told me which surprised me.
Harmony had told me a few days ago about vampires and how everything I read in the journals was true, and nothing but the truth. How can this girl know about that? Does she believe in vampires? We sat down with the books I needed and began to debate a bit.
"You kidding me right? There are no such things as vampires. You sound just like my twin sister," I told Anna.
"Well, your sister is smart. There's not a lot of documentation, but the stories have been told since the Civil War," Anna said, "My granddad used to tell me all these creepy stories when I was little. And he said that his granddad told it to him."
"Yeah, that would be folklore," I told her, "Vampires are metaphors for the demons of the day."
"Which are?" Anna asked.
"The Union soldiers," I told her, "I've read the stories myself. They talk about the enemy. The demons that attack at night."
"That sounds like vampires to me," Anna said.
"Allegorical vampires. Which is what it is," I told her, "Creative expression during a very volatile time. I mean, a country at war doesn't want realism. They want fantasy. Thus, vampire fiction. You and my sister would get along, I swear."
"Man your smart," Anna said, "I got to give it to you. When I first saw you, I missed it."
"Yeah, I've had a rough go of it lately," I told her, "But I'm just now getting back to my old self."
"Well, good luck with your paper. I got to head home," Anna said, "You know my great-granddad actually showed me a journal once of an ancestor and he had written all of this creepy stuff about vampires. It was actually really believable."
"Wait, a journal?" I asked surprised.
"Yeah, why?" Anna asked.
"Are you sure you have to go?" I asked her.
~ TIME SKIP ~
I was playing a game, with Anna, at the Grill, talking about the journal her great-grandfather had. She offered a night of watching a lot of vampire movies, and I told her that I just recently got out of a relationship and that I didn't want her to think that I am trying to hit on her right away. She left soon after and I headed home. I got to my room and saw dinner was waiting for me on my bed. I sighed.
Even though we weren't talking, Harmony still wants to take care of me. I don't think I can keep away as I had done before. I went to her room and opened it to see her already sleeping. I closed the door and went back to my room.
~ THE NEXT DAY ~
I was in the library when Anna found me again.
"There you are," she said.
"Hey," I said back.
"Hi. Okay, look," Anna said to me, "I know I don't know you, so don't ask me why I did this. I just, sometimes- Mostly all the time, I have this need to be right. So, I googled and..."
She handed me a stack of paper.
"What is it?" I asked her.
"Proof. Sort of," she replied.
I looked through some of the titles and with a serious expression, I looked at her.
"What does this mean?" I asked.
"Well, I only went back as far back as 1942 and found there's been a string of animal attacks periodically. In and around the town for the past 75 years. It's consistent. In '62, five bodies found. In '53, four people killed. In '74, three people died, and there's been five this year. All attacked. All suffered major blood loss, as in drained of blood," She stated all the facts she has found.
It was making me start to believe either Anna was crazy just like my sister. Or, that they were both right.
~ WITH ELENA AND JENNA ~
~ Elena's P.O.V. ~
I entered my house. Finally, after the trip with Damon and finding out, by Stefan, that I was adopted. Aunt Jenna was sitting on the couch and called out to me.
"I don't set a lot of rules, Elena," Jenna said, "Not with you. I trust you to tell me the truth. Where were you and why did you lie about it? I thought that we were closer than that?"
"Now is not the time talking about lies," I told her.
"Don't do that. Don't turn your back on me," Jenna said, "I didn't do anything."
"Okay. Question? Am I adopted?" I asked her, "I trust you to tell me the truth too, Aunt Jenna. How can you not tell me? I thought we were closer than that?"
"Elena I didn't- They asked me not to," Jenna said.
"I don't want to hear it," I told her going up the stairs only to be stopped by Harmony.
"You don't have to be mean to her, Elena," she told me.
I scoffed at her.
"Why do you care. Your not really my sister?" I told her in anger and passed her.
~ No One's P.O.V. ~
Harmony went to Jenna and the two huddled on the couch in tears on what Elena said to them. Alaric saw Damon at the Grill and remembered that he was the reason his wife died.
