I don't own Vampire Diaries, or any other references I use in the story. I only own my O.C., Harmony.
Oh, and just so you know. Harmony drinks vervain every day and had made an anklet that is both soaked and filled with vervain.
Chapter 12 - Unpleasantville
~ Harmony's P.O.V. ~
It was night time, and I decided to bake cookies. Walking into the kitchen, I saw Jeremy sketching, and no matter how much I wanted to talk to him, I didn't and just made my way to get a start on the cookies. His decision to speak with me surprised me.
"I'm sorry," he said as I turned around, "I still don't believe in vampires, but I can't just ignore you anymore. It's too hard."
"It's fine. I won't say anything else on the subject. I will, however, still help you on your paper," I told Jeremy with a sad smile, "I'm making cookies to go with the pizza."
"Sounds great," Jeremy said.
It was quiet for a moment before I looked at Jeremy and said, "I just found out Elena is adopted."
"What?" Jeremy said.
"Yeah. Well, Elena told Jenna, and I overheard them. I'm not Elena's sister, apparently," I told him, feeling my eyes watered.
Jeremy got up from his seat and hugged me tightly.
"How can she say that?" I asked him.
"I'm sure she didn't mean it. She's just in shock right now. She will be sorry when she calms down. You'll see," Jeremy told me before the doorbell rang.
Jeremy let go of me, and I continued baking when I got a bad feeling. It was the same with Logan Fell. A vampire was here. I ran to the door as Jeremy called for money for the pizza. The pizza guy was standing in the living room. We locked eyes, and I saw his widened a bit before going back to normal. The feeling I had was from him. His attention soon went to Elena, who gave him the money and told him to keep the change. He left, and I breathed a bit better. However, dread-filled my stomach. I vampire was let in the house. The cookies were ready, and we all ate pizza. Then, I skimmed Jeremy's paper and told him it was an excellent paper and that he should get an 'A' on it. He smiled, and we went to our rooms.
~ THE NEXT DAY ~
Elena gave everyone a present. She gave me and Jeremy bracelets. I wore mine on my wrist to confuse any vampire that they can compel me when they take it off, but I still drink it every day and have my anklet, that is both filled and soaked in vervain, all the time as a precaution. After school, I decided to go to the Grill to eat something and do homework when I saw Jeremy talking to a girl I have never seen before. He left, and I decided to walk over to the girl.
"Hey, I'm Harmony Gilbert. I just saw you talking to my brother," I told her to bring out my hand.
"I'm Anna. Jeremy told me about you," Anna said, shaking it.
It was then; I felt a feeling. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't that good either. However, I decided to push the feeling aside and smiled at the girl.
"All good things I hope," I said.
"Well, I met him at the library when he was researching for his paper," Anna said, "I helped him with it."
"Thank you for that. Jeremy told me he got an 'A.' That's good," I told her, "Would you like to eat with me?"
Anna smiled at me as she said, "Sure."
We sat at a booth and talked about our hobbies, and we had a lovely time until Anna had to go home.
"It was nice meeting you, Harmony. Jeremy is lucky to have you as a sister," Anna told me.
"Thank you, Anna. For being there for Jeremy when I couldn't," I told her, "See you around. If you want, there's a school dance happening tonight. You should come."
"I'll think about it," Anna said.
Anna left, and I began my homework before heading home and getting ready for the school dance.
~ At Gilbert House ~
I made it home in time to see Aunt Jenna getting ready to leave for the 50's dance at school.
"You look cute, Aunt Jenna," I told her as I headed upstairs to get ready.
"Thank you," I heard Aunt Jenna say.
I grabbed my bathrobe and headed to the shower. Once I finished, I went to my closet to pull out the dress I had bought for the party. It was a black halter-neck rockabilly swing dress with white polka-dots and red roses on it. I put on my black Mary Jane pumps and curled my hair before placing it in a half updo. I tied a red bow in my hair and put on mascara, liquid eyeliner, and red lipstick to finish the 50's look. I walked outside my room to see Elena run down the stairs. I followed her slowly to hear who she was calling.
"Where is he?" Elena said to whoever was on the phone.
I stayed at the stairs where I could see her. I had a bad feeling in my gut. Something is very wrong. I gazed around the living room until I looked at the ceiling. I covered my mouth to stop the gasp from leaving as I saw a man no vampire on the roof.
"Thank God. This compass was spinning," Elena said, breaking my train of thought, "Stefan must be here. Thank you."
Elena hanged up, and that's when the vampire jumped down and tried to bite her.
"Elena!" Stefan yelled, throwing the vampire of my sister.
I quickly, but quietly, went up the stairs and ran back down, making noise. When I got to the living room, I pretended to be stupid.
"Elena! What happened?! What's wrong?!" I yelled, running up to the couple who was hugging.
"It's nothing, Harmony. I thought I saw a bug," Elena lied to me.
"Really? Did you scream bloody murder for a bug? God. Do not scare me like that," I said before grabbing my leather jacket, "Well, I'm off to the dance. See you there."
"See you there," Elena said back as I was closing the door.
~ At The Dance ~
I found Bonnie and Caroline, and we were dancing the night away. When we got tired, we got some punch then went to the table where Elena was.
"Hey, having fun?" Elena asked the three of us.
"No, but this look took 2 hours, so I'm staying for half of that," Caroline said, making us laugh.
"What's Damon doing here?" Bonnie said, making us all look over where Damon was.
"He wanted to come. I promise he'll behave," Elena said, making me want to laugh again.
"So, what is this, like some threesome now?" Caroline asked Elena, "You and the Salvator brothers?"
"No, but if I'm gonna be with Stefan, then I have to learn to tolerate Damon," Elena said, "It's not like I can kill him."
"Says who?" I asked, making them look at me, "I have a lot of ideas on how you could kill him. All you got to do is ask."
"Don't be silly," Elena said.
"There's a thought," Bonnie said.
"Mmm. I'll help you too, Harmony," Caroline said.
Elena left to find Stefan, and the three of us stayed at the table talking. That was until Damon showed up.
"Hi, Bonnie," Damon said, "Care to dance?'
"I'm out of here," Bonnie said, trying to leave.
Damon cut her off by standing in front of her and saying, "Please give me another chance."
Bonnie left, and Caroline went up to him and said, "Back off Damon," before also leaving but not without grabbing my hand and taking me with her.
I broke apart from Caroline when I saw Jeremy and Anna at the punch table. I made my way over and got close enough to hear Jeremy say, "You're doing that thing again."
"What thing?" Anna asked.
"The thing where you pretend we're dating. Even though we're not," Jeremy said.
"Oh, right. You mean, stalking. Yeah," Anna said seriously before laughing, "Get over yourself. Come on. I've never been to a school dance before, and if it weren't for your sister, I wouldn't have even known there was a party. Humor me."
I was by their side at that moment and smiled at them.
"Anna! You made it!" I said, hugging the girl.
"Harmony, it's nice to see you again," Anna said, "You forgot to tell me this was a themed party."
"Yeah, sorry about that. I wasn't sure if you were comfortable dressing up," I told Anna.
"It's fine," Anna said, "You know what? I'm going to help you with the punch table."
I looked at Jeremy with a smile as I said, "Sounds like a plan. Doesn't it Jer-Jer? She's so nice."
Jeremy gave me a look, and I quickly gazed at the table.
"It looks like we need more cups. Come on, Anna. Let's get more cups," I told her, and the two of us went to get the cups.
We grabbed the cups and were on our way back, when I spoke, "Jeremy is a nice guy, and you seem like a nice girl. If you like him, I say you go for it. I will support you two. No matter what. But he has to want to date you also."
"Why? You don't know me. Yet, you would trust me with your brother?' Anna asked me.
We stopped walking for a bit, and I turned to her.
"I don't know why. I just have this feeling that there's more to you than meets the eye. Whether it's good or bad, I don't know, but I don't want to judge someone without getting to know them," I told Anna truthfully, "Just know that you can come to me if you want to talk."
Anna was silent for a moment, just staring at me before she replied with a smile.
"Thank you, Harmony. You are a good person," Anna said to me.
We made our way back to the table, and I bid the two of them farewell since I felt like going to the Grill to get something to eat.
~ Jeremy's P.O.V. ~
"You know, you don't go to school here. You don't have to help," I told Anna after my sister left.
"I don't mind. It's fun. Oh, before I forget, can I borrow your ancestor's journal?" Anna asked me.
"Why?" I asked her.
"You said I could read it," Anna said.
'That's right,' I thought before saying, "I, uh, don't have it."
"Well, obviously, you didn't bring it. We can go to your house and grab it," Anna said.
"No, I mean, I gave it to my history teacher," I told her.
"Why would you do that?" Anna asked me.
"Because he wanted to read it," I said, not seeing the big deal.
"You can't be giving it to just anyone," Anna said.
"But I should give it to you?" I told her.
"Loan. Loan it to me," Anna said, being pushy.
"I loaned it to Mr. Saltzman," I told her.
"Maybe it's in his classroom? We can go get it," Anna said, and I finally had enough.
"What the big deal with the stupid journal?" I asked her.
Then, all of a sudden, her eyes changed red and veins grew under her eyes.
"Your eye," I said, surprised.
Anna turned around and said, "There's something in it. Nevermind, I got to go."
And with that, Anna left. I just stood there in shock at what I had only seen—Anna's hiding something. Maybe I should tell Harmony what I saw? Would she believe me?
~ Harmony's P.O.V. ~
I was walking through the crowd when Elena suddenly grabbed my arm.
"Harmony, follow me," the urgency in her tone scared me.
"What is it, Elena?" I asked.
"Just come with me," Elena said, "Everything will be okay."
I let her drag me out into the hall, and we began to run. I looked back to see the vampire I saw at the house was coming for us. However, no matter what exit we tried, it was locked. We entered the cafeteria and Elena went for the door. It was also closed.
"Elena, what's happening?!" I asked her.
"We have to get out of here," Elena said.
The doors opened, and the vampire zoomed towards us. He shoved me, and I hit a table hard. Breaking it and making me lose my breath. I couldn't move, and I think I hit my head because everything was blurry. Elena tried running, but the guy grabbed her by her hair and threw her across the table. When he tried to bite her, Elena stabbed him with wooden pencils. She tried to break a mop and stake him, but the vampire grabbed it and tossed it aside. When he tried to bite her again, Stefan threw him off her, and Damon appeared next to me.
"Hey, Dick Head. Nobody wants to kill you. We just want to talk," Damon said.
The vampire went to still go after Elena, but Damon threw the stake at Stefan, who used it on the vampire. It was then that I lost consciousness.
~ Elena's P.O.V. ~
"Now, you feel like talking?' Stefan said to the vampire.
"Screw you," the vampire said.
Stefan shoved the stake deeper as he said, "That's the wrong answer. Why are you doing this?"
"Because it's fun," The vampire said, twisted the stake.
"What do you want with Elena and Harmony?" Stefan asked.
"They look like Katherine Pierce and Harmony Salvator," the vampire said.
"You knew Katherine and our sister?" Damon questioned.
"Oh, you thought you were the only ones? You don't even remember me," the vampire said.
"Tell me how to get in the tomb," Damon demanded.
"No," the vampire said.
Stefan twisted the stake deeper.
"The grimoire," the vampire said.
"Where is it?" Damon asked.
When the vampire was silent, Stefan shoves the stake deeper again, and I had to look away. I didn't notice another vampire was watching what was happening.
"Check the journal. The journal. Jonathan's journal," the vampire said, "Jonathan Gilbert's."
"Who else is working with you?" Stefan asked.
"Who else is there?!" Damon asked.
"No. You're gonna have to kill me," the vampire said, and Damon gestured Stefan to kill him.
Stefan took out the stake and shoved it right back to the vampire's heart, killing him.
"How we gonna find the others now?" I asked the Salvator brothers.
"He had to die," Damon said.
"But," I said before Stefan interrupted.
"Elena. He has got invited into your house," Stefan said, making me quiet.
Then, we realized someone was there. Damon looked at Stefan, who told him to handle it and that he would deal with the body. I looked up and saw Harmony still laying on broken pieces of a table.
"Oh my god," I said before running to my sister, "Stefan!"
Stefan appeared next to me and checked Harmony. He then looked at me.
"She'll be fine. There's no blood, just a few bruises, and a headache. Maybe a concussion, but we can handle that. We'll question her when she wakes up," Stefan said.
"Okay," I said, relieved that my sister was going to be alright.
~ Anna's P.O.V. ~
I can't believe Noah didn't listen to me. Now, he's gone. I told him to leave that Katherine look-alike alone, but no. Not only did he bother her, but he also hurt Harmony. She didn't deserve that.
~ Elena's P.O.V. ~
We headed back to my house, and Stefan took Harmony to her room. The two of us went downstairs, and I sat on the couch while Stefan was in the kitchen.
"Doing Okay?" Stefan asked me.
"Is it weird if I say yes?" I asked him.
"Is it true?" Stefan asked.
"I should feel more upset," I told him, "Or scared or something, but I feel kind of exhilarated."
"It's the adrenaline," Stefan said, "You'll crash soon enough."
"Yeah, I guess," I said before smiling, "I fought back tonight. It felt good."
"I wish you didn't have to fight at all," Stefan said.
"Still," I said.
"I need to tell you something," Stefan said, "And I don't know how you're gonna feel about it."
"What?" I asked.
"I told Damon that I'd help him get into that tomb," Stefan said, "To get Katherine back, but it was a lie. I let him believe that he could trust me."
~ Harmony's P.O.V. ~
I woke up in my room with a pounding headache and slowly made my way downstairs to get Advil when I heard Stefan and Elena talking. I waited by the stairs to listen to what they were saying.
"I told Damon that I'd help him get into that tomb," I heard Stefan say, "To get Katherine back, but it was a lie. I let him believe that he could trust me."
'The tomb where all the vampires are?!' I thought.
"Well, then why would you be worried about telling me?" Elena told him.
"Because he can be very persuasive, and you two have bonded lately," Stefan said.
"That doesn't mean I trust him," Elena said.
'Yet you trust him enough to mess with our heads?' I thought to myself.
"It's gonna take more than just a road trip and a rescue for me to forget who Damon is and everything that he's done," Elena said.
"I don't wanna be his enemy, Elena," Stefan said, "But I can't let him do it."
"Then don't," Elena said, "and I'll help you whatever it takes. Okay?"
The two hugged, and that's when I made noises to let them know I was awake. Elena was the first to notice me walking into the kitchen.
"Harmony! How are you feeling?" Elena asked me as she came up next to me.
"My head hurts, but I'm fine," I told her, "I was going to make myself something to eat before taking some medicine."
Stefan came up from behind me, and I didn't see the look he was giving Elena. However, I did know the look Elena gave Stefan. I felt a tap on my shoulder and turned around. Stefan smiled at me before taking off the vervain bracelet and attempting to compel me.
"What do you remember about the dance?" Stefan asked, looking straight at my eyes.
"I remember dancing with Bonnie and Caroline. I remember Elena talking to us before looking for you, and I remember Elena taking me away from the party where the pizza guy was following us. I don't know why, though. Elena never told me what was happening," I said, making it believe he compelled me, "He was fast and strong. He shoved me into a table. I don't remember anything after that."
"You will forget about the pizza guy following you and Elena. You will forget him attacking you. You fell and hurt yourself while dancing at the school dance. You will forget that we had this conversation," Stefan said.
"I will forget," I said before blinking my eyes a few times. I looked at Stefan and smiled, "Oh, hi Stefan. I didn't see you there."
"How are you feeling?" Stefan asked, "I heard you hurt yourself."
"Yeah, I had an accident while dancing," I said, hearing a faint sigh of relief come from Elena.
"I hope you feel better soon," Stefan said.
"Thank you," I said before finding medicine and grabbing a muffin and water, "Good night."
"Good night," I heard the two of them tell me.
I entered my room and locked the door before getting my drawing journal and drawing a pizza with a 50 on top, before writing what happened at 50's dance. I also wrote the date and how Stefan tried to compel me. I put my journal away, before picking up my phone and sending a text to my Uncle John on the attack of the vampire. I got an immediate reply back that said he would make a trip to visit soon and to let him know if anything else happens. I told him I would and then changed into my pajamas before taking off my make up and going to sleep.
