Chapter 13 - Children of the Damned

~ Flashback ~

~ Katherine's P.O.V. ~

"Good to see you again, Pearl," I said to the female vampire.

"Perhaps we could talk outside?" Pearl asked me.

"Emily, would you please tell Mr. Salvator that I've stepped away?" I asked my witch maid, Emily.

"Which one?" She asked me, and I smiled at her.

"Both," I said, and she left.

Pearl and I went outside, and she tried warning me about playing around with both Salvator brothers. However, where's the fun in that?

"Honorary Fell came by the apothecary yesterday with a case of this elixir," Pearl said, giving me a bottle of clear liquid, "She asked that it be sold at a reduced rate."

"I don't follow," I said.

"Try it," Pearl told me, and I opened the bottle and poured some on my skin.

The liquid burned my skin.

"What in hell?" I said to her.

"Vervain," Pearl told me.

"Why is there ver-" I was about to ask but stopped since I knew the question, "they know."

"They're trying to find us, and they're getting crafty about it," Pearl said.

"The townspeople ingesting vervain," I said, giving the bottle back to Pearl, "well, that's inconvenient."

"It might be time for us to move again," Pearl said to me.

"No, I like it here," I told her, "I'm not interested in leaving just yet."

"Can we go, mama?" Pearl's daughter Annabelle said, "Is something wrong?"

I was walking in the kitchen to see Stefan and Elena going through a box.

"Hey, what are you guys doing?" I asked them.

"Hey, just going through some stuff," Elena said, "feeling sentimental. Dad had this whole family journal from years ago. I thought I'd dig it up."

'Are they talking about Jonathan Gilbert's Journal?' I thought.

"Jonathan Gilbert's Journal?" I asked.

"Yeah, what do you know about it?" Elena asked me.

"I just did a history report on it," I told Elena.

"Oh. So, where is it now?" Elena asked.

"I gave it to Mr. Saltzman. He wanted to see it," I said.

'What's the big deal with that journal?' I thought.

I was entering my house with groceries when I heard voices coming from the kitchen. I walked on over and saw Damon cooking while he talked to my Aunt Jenna.

"My father never approved of anyone I ever dated. Which only made me want them more. Of course. What about you?" Damon told Aunt Jenna.

"There were a few guys. Logan wasn't the only loser I dated," Aunt Jenna said.

"And you dated him twice," I said, gaining their attention.

"Oh, Harmony, I forgot to tell you not to buy groceries since Damon is cooking," Aunt Jenna said.

I sighed before putting the groceries away.

"It's alright, Aunt Jenna. We needed to restock the fridge anyway," I told my aunt before looking over at Damon, "Hello, Damon."

"Harmony. Hello, Elena," Damon said, making us turn and see Elena.

"Is Stefan with you?" Damon asked my sister.

"He'll be here soon," Elena said.

There was an awkward silence before I spoke up.

"Well, this is awkward. I'm going to see if Jeremy wants to play a game," I said, leaving the kitchen.

Jeremy and I ended up on the couch with Damon, who was playing the game with us. I gave up and let them play as I watched. It wasn't until Damon started talking to Jeremy about Anna.

"Hot trumps weird. Believe me," Damon said.

"Don't be mean. She may be odd, but Anna is a nice girl. I know she is," I told them but was ignored.

When Damon left to answer the door, I grabbed his control and played with Jeremy. However, all too soon, Damon, Elena, and Stefan went up to Jeremy and began questioning him. I was feeling a bit bad for Jeremy. Because I can tell, he was getting annoyed with all the questions. I was also interested in what the three wanted the journal so much. In the end, Damon went to take Jeremy to the Grill to meet Anna. I was left even more confused and went to my room. I stayed in my room for the rest of the night and began to have realistic dreams where I was Harmony Salvator, Damon, and Stefan's little sister.

I was out one in the woods, picking berries, when Katherine Pierce came up to me. I gave her a frown.

"What do you want, Ms. Pierce? I am busy," I told the girl who stole my brothers from me.

"Oh, don't be like that, Harmony. I genuinely care for your brother," Katherine said, making my scoff.

"Which one? Or is it both, you strumpet?" I asked her.

"That is just rude," Katherine said, "Picking on the orphan girl."

"No. Rude is barging in our lives and taking my brothers away from me. For tearing their bond apart. I don't see how they love you. You have nothing but your looks. You're a pretty face. That's all you'll ever be," I said, standing up.

Katherine just smiled at me.

"Well, let me put you out of your misery. You won't see me ever again," Katherine said.

"I doubt that. I'll believe it when I see a carriage taking you out of Virginia for good," I told her.

Just then, Katherine's face transformed into a monster.

I screamed, and she zoomed up to me. She was biting my neck. She made sure to do it painfully as I felt the life leave me slowly. I was at the edge of my life when she released me, and I fell on the ground. Katherine stood above me, licking my blood off her lips.

"Now, you will die all alone, and we will never see each other again," Katherine said before leaving.

I was all alone and scared. I didn't want to be alone. I wanted my brothers. I. Wanted. To. Live. I don't know how long I laid there, but it became dark. I wondered if anyone realized I was missing. I sound coming towards my direction, and I was scared that it was an animal going to kill me. It wasn't. It was Emily, Katherine's maid. She ran up to me and knelt, checking my injury.

"Did she give you her blood?" Emily asked me.

I shook my head, and she sighed in relief.

"I will help save you and your soul, Harmony Salvator, for it is not your time to leave the world entirely, but it will come with a cost," Emily said.

"Anything," I had a hard time saying.

"I will preserve your soul. Everything that makes you who you are, and send it somewhere you can find love and happiness," Emily said, "You won't see your brothers for a very long time, and you will forget who they are until the time is right. Do you agree to those terms."

"Yes," I said to her.

Emily nodded, and she began to chant in an unknown language. Everything faded, and I was drifting in darkness. However, I finally woke up in the arms of my new mother, Miranda Gilbert.

"Hello, Harmony," Miranda, my mom, said, smiling down at me.

~ Flashback/Dream End ~

I woke up in a sweat. I remembered now who tried to kill me. I was a Salvator, but now I'm a Gilbert. I sat in my bed, thinking about the events that occurred. I was angry. If they open that tomb, that monster would be free. She doesn't deserve freedom. Katherine deserves hell.
