Rising Storms

A Harry Potter and Percy Jackson crossover

Chapter 31:

Harry

Harry found himself in his first Defense class of the year, both excited and nervous. Sirius was good with him in one-on-one sessions, but how would he be with a class-full?

The man in question walked into the room as the classroom finished filling up. "Good morning, class! I'm Professor Black," Sirius grinned. "Yes, my husband is also Professor Black, but you'll have to ask him what he would like to be called." A few students chuckled. "Today, I want to test you on what you learned over the last two years. In the next two weeks, we will probably be refreshing our memories of the creatures and spells from first and second year... before we jump into the third year syllabus. Ready to begin?"

"Yes, Professor Black," the class said, some more enthusiastic than others.

Harry sat up straight, interested in seeing what was on the test... and if the test was a paper test or a verbal test. Papers were handed out, answering that question, and Harry looked down at the questions. They were simple questions, but not all of them had been discussed during the last two years. Thankfully, Harry had taken really good notes from the book in first year, and bought better Defense books for second year.

"You may now begin. Bring your tests up to me when you're done, and then you may leave," Sirius said, sitting in the chair behind his desk. He watched over the students as they began their tests.

Harry dipped his quill into his ink and began answering the questions. From the corner of his eye, he noticed that there were many students that were frustrated with the questions (probably the questions from second year). There were students that left the classroom early, not that all of them had actually finished the test, but Harry stayed... writing out all of the answers to the questions that he knew. He went back over the questions that he was a little iffy over. He thought about the questions logically and then gave the best answers he could. Harry turned in the test and left the classroom with a smile to Sirius.

In Divination, Harry sat at the table near Ron's. Harry was the only one without a partner just yet, and the class was about to start. This year, since hardly anyone wanted to take Divination, the class was made up of students from all four houses... However, it seemed like Harry was the only Slytherin in attendance. He sighed, before the sudden sight of Hermione Granger had him looking at the other chair at his table. "Not subtle at all," he told her.

Hermione scowled at him. "Shh!" She looked around at the rest of the class, and then back at him. "Don't give it away."

Harry raised an eyebrow at her. "You're doing that yourself." He ignored her affronted look and turned to the front of the classroom where Trelawney was now standing.

"Welcome, class, to your first year of Divination!" Professor Trelawney looked around her class. "We will start with reading tea leaves. Drink your tea, then you will swirl the dregs of the tea and flip the cup over on the saucer, and switch with your partner. With your partner's cup, you will flip the cup back over and use your book to decipher the images in the tea leaves. Begin."

Harry and Hermione poured their tea and sat there drinking the tea while they looked around the classroom. Harry heard the professor telling one of the girls at the next table that the thing she dreaded most would happen on October 19th, and he sighed. "Professor Trelawney," he said, catching her attention. "That statement is a little vague. Now she'll worry so much about all of the things she's been dreading and when one of those things happens, she'll believe that that's what you meant the whole time." The other students stared at Harry, but he only looked at the Professor.

"Do you have any insight on this event?" she asked curiously.

Harry sighed at her 'mysterious' act. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, digging deep into his intuition as he opened his eyes to look at the Gryffindor girl in front of Trelawney. There was something about the girl... "You have a pet, don't you..? Something small..." His voice was soft and full of curiosity. The classroom was silent, hanging onto his words. Harry hummed, nodding. "Make sure your bunny is safely locked away and won't get out on the day of the 19th." He blinked, shaking off the weird feeling that had overcome him. His lips had become numb during the event, and were now starting to tingle with feeling.

"How did he know?" Lavender Brown asked her fellow Gryffindor, Padma Patil.

Padma Patil shook her head, eyes wide. "You don't tell many people about your bunny. You don't even have pictures of him currently with you."

The other students stared at Harry as the Professor slowly made her way over to him. "You have a bit of the sight, Mr. Potter," Professor Trelawney said, shaking slightly. "You could see a great many things if you train your gift." She patted him on the shoulder and then stumbled her way back to her desk to sit down. But her eyes stayed on his table.

Harry shuddered slightly at the feeling that she was keeping a close eye on him. He drained his tea, leaving just a little liquid behind to swirl his tea leaves around, and he flipped his cup upside down on his saucer. He slid his cup over to Hermione, who was looking at him warily.

"You heard about her bunny somehow," she said, placing her cup on the saucer and sliding it over.

Harry shook his head. "I don't hang around Gryffindors much."

During the rest of the class, Harry and Hermione read the tea leaves in each other's cup. Hermione said something about a grim and a rat, unsure what that could mean, and said that this was all absurd. Harry laughed out loud. "Hermione, my godfather turns into a giant dog that looks like a grim. The rat is Peter Pettigrew, who is currently in Azkaban." He got a thoughtful look on his face. Unless... He shook the thought from his head. That couldn't be... there would be news if Pettigrew had escaped.

"You seem rather sure," Hermione said.

"I am. You should ask Sirius to transform sometime." Harry grinned at the Ravenclaw.

In History class, right after Lunch, Harry brought out parchment and a quill. He was excited to see Remus's first History class. A flash of red had him looking at the other side of the classroom. In History of Magic, Slytherins shared it with Hufflepuff this year. The red was a Hufflepuff girl's hair... Susan Bones, a cute round-faced girl with warm brown eyes. He didn't realize he was staring at her until she looked over, and he looked away... blushing slightly.

"Good afternoon," Remus Black, formerly Remus Lupin, said.

"Good afternoon," the class said as one.

"I know that many of you have already had Defense, and have met Professor Black, my husband." Remus smiled at the nods. "Since there are two of us, you may call me Professor Remus. It makes it easier to remember which one of us you are talking about." Then he jumped into teaching about the history of the magical world, starting at the beginning. His voice flowed, drawing everyone into the lesson.

Harry found himself loving History now... with a competent teacher. He took thorough notes, drawing out timelines of certain events, and answering questions when he was asked... which wasn't often. At the end of the class, Harry stayed behind briefly. "I thought I should let you know. Hermione saw the grim and a rat in my tea leaves. I'm sure you know what that means. He hasn't escaped, has he?"

Remus looked thoughtful. "I haven't heard anything, but I'll ask around, subtly." He smiled. "How did you like the class?"

Harry grinned as he walked to the door. Looking back, he said, "It was the best History class in History." He left the room to howling laughter from the usually quiet teacher. His job was done.

A few days later, the Great Hall was thrown into chaos as they read the Daily Prophet. Harry was given the newspaper by a worried Draco. Harry's eyes ran over the words, ignoring the picture of the prisoner, reading about the escape of Peter Pettigrew. Apparently, no one had noticed his escape until the day after his escape, and the Aurors didn't say anything about it until now... three days after the escape.

Draco's voice pulled Harry out of his thoughts. "Are you alright, Harry? You're shaking."

Harry blinked. "I'm angry," he said. "They let him escape and didn't do anything until now?!"

"The paper just says that the Aurors didn't let the newspaper know until now. That doesn't mean that they didn't do anything." Draco watched his friend warily.

Harry took a few deep breaths and nodded stiffly. "I'm going to go for a walk," he said, his voice stuck in his throat. Harry walked out of the Great Hall and then out of the school towards the lake. The lake was a good place to get away from people and just think. He stood at the edge of the lake looking out to the lightly rippling water.

The giant squid would sometimes lift a tentacle out of the water and wave it. Harry smiled slightly and reached down to pick up a flat rock and throw it across the lake. It hopped across the lake and the squid caught the rock. Then the tentacle swung back and threw the rock back gently, letting the rock bounce a few times on the water. Harry let out a laugh as he jumped slightly to grab the rock out of the air.
