Rising Storms
A Harry Potter and Percy Jackson crossover
Chapter 32:
Harry
Harry was told to leave Pettigrew's capture to the Aurors and only focus on his studies. He didn't like it, but his grades were slipping slightly with his distraction. Each day, Harry went to all of his classes with one of his elective classes. Then in his bed each night, he would go back in time to that morning and only go to the second elective class that happened at the same time. All in all, Harry went through the same day three times to go to all of his classes and spend all the extra time on the second go round to do his homework and study. The third go round is solely for sleep.
At Yule, Harry was forced to take a long break from studying by being taken home for the winter break. "Why am I going home? I could be studying!" Harry whined.
James chuckled. "You need a break from studying. Besides, there's someone you need to meet."
"Huh?" Harry looked up at James in confusion.
James laughed as they got ready to floo over to Grimmauld. "You'll see." A moment later, they were gone. When they stepped out of the fireplace, James quietly called out for Remus, for his super hearing.
Remus hurried down the stairs. "There you are," he said quietly. "He just went down for a nap. Come on up, but be quiet." He led them up the stairs and up to a room where Sirius was laying in bed and looking down at a basinet.
Harry looked at Sirius and then at the basinet. A baby? Where did the baby come from? Didn't they come from a man and a woman having sex? That's what his dad told him...
Sirius looked up at Harry and smiled. "Hey, Harry. Come meet your cousin, Regulus."
"Like your little brother?" Harry asked. He stepped forward.
"Yes," Sirius agreed. "I named him after my little brother." He smiled. "You look confused."
"How did you and Remus have a baby without a woman?" Harry asked.
Remus aborted a laugh. Sirius glared at his husband. Then he looked over at James. "You didn't tell him? You just told him your version and left us to explain gay sex?"
James shook his head. "I told him about gay sex, just not about babies in a same-sex family."
"Oh, that's so much better," Sirius said with a slight sneer. He winked at Harry. "Well, then, some wizards are able to naturally conceive and carry babies. I'm one of them, but we had a little trouble so we used fertility potions to help boost the chances." He smiled at the flushed look on Harry's face. "You good there, Pup?"
"Yep!" Harry said quickly.
The men chuckled softly. The four of them enjoyed their Yule break, spending time with baby Regulus and celebrating Yule together. The day that Harry had to be back at Hogwarts was quickly upon them, and Harry sadly flooed to the platform alone after his dad left for work. He saw Draco and Blaise waiting for him on the train already.
Harry's trip on the train seemed to take no time at all. He and his friends joked around and even joined the Weasley Twins in pranking the other students on the train. The twins weren't their usual cheerful selves, however, and Harry asked, "Are you okay?"
Fred sighed as they sat down in their carriage on the way up to the castle. "Madam Bones, mum, went to Gringotts after getting a letter from them... and she came by to speak to dad yesterday."
"How did that go, Fred?" Harry asked.
The twins looked at him, shocked. "How did you know he's Fred," George asked.
Harry smiled. "Fred has little gold flecks in his eyes. When he's angry, they go a little red... slightly." He looked at George. "Your face is slightly softer, and you have a barely noticeable mole right at the bottom edge of your right eyebrow."
The twins looked at each other, searching for the differences. "Huh," they said.
"So," Harry said. "How did it go?"
George shook off his shock. "We don't actually know," he said. "Mum and Dad were locked in his office with a silencing spell, which we couldn't break, and Molly was cooking dinner." He shrugged.
"I see." Harry looked at Draco in worry.
Back in Hogwarts, Harry found himself buried in homework daily. He spent most of his time in the Library. Hermione, however, seemed to be running herself into the ground. She was tired all of the time, and snapping at everyone. She even started crying one day when Remus gently reminded her that she got her dates wrong.
Harry told Sirius about it one Saturday afternoon as they were sitting in the living room of the Blacks' quarters. Baby Regulus was lying on his back in the bassinet, asleep. "I've tried helping her," Harry said. "But she almost bit my head off."
"Well, I don't know what she's going through," Sirius said, keeping an eye on Regulus. "But, it sounds like she's just doing too much and without rest."
Harry nodded. "I try to understand what she's going through, since I'm going through similar circumstances, but I can't understand why she's so overwhelmed and I'm not." He glanced over when a house elf popped in.
"Young one needs a change," the elf said. She was wearing a cute dress with the Hogwarts's logo. "I's change him now."
"Thank you," Sirius said. "You've done so much to help me, Milly. Thank you."
While Milly blushed and changed Regulus, Harry told Sirius that he was going to speak with his dad the next day. "He wants to know how my studies are going. Apparently, mom has been bugging him for an update." Sirius laughed at that.
James and Harry were talking over two-way mirrors on Sunday. Harry grinned at something his dad had said. "What did Siri do then?"
"Siri pranked the showers to where the water looked clear, but made the hair turn hot pink." James laughed in remembrance.
Harry laughed. "I bet Remi hated that."
"He did," James agreed. "But, that's how they became a couple. They've been together ever since."
Harry saw something in the background of the mirror. "Dad, there's something behind you." He let out a startled yell when he saw his dad turn slightly only to get hit on the back of the head. "Dad!"
Draco shot up to his feet. The other guys in Harry, Theo, and Blaise's room were staring in shock. Draco was quiet as he moved to the door of the dorm room. Thankfully, the door was still open, and Draco was glad to see an older student moving on the staircase to the common room.
Harry watched as the house elves fought the attacker, more attackers came from the shadows, and pulled a groggy Lord Potter to his feet. Suddenly, two men were popped into the room, curtesy of an elderly house elf. The elf snapped her fingers and the other elves left.
Sirius and Remus started blasting the attacking men with spells, protecting James's prone form. There were a few curse words thrown here and there as the men fought, but soon the attackers were bound and knocked out. Remus performed first aid to James as Sirius noticed the still active mirror.
"Is he okay," Harry asked, fearfully.
Sirius smiled as he picked up the mirror from the stand that James kept it on. "It looks good. Remus is taking care of him now." He showed Harry his father, who was sitting up now, and then turned the mirror back around. "We'll take care of the attackers and find out who orchestrated this. Don't you worry about that."
Harry nodded. "Okay," he said with a sigh of relief.
Draco spoke up, "Cousin Sirius, I told an older student to get our Head of House. Uncle Severus will let Madam Bones know that there was an attack on Potter Manor." Harry turned the mirror so that Sirius could look at the Malfoy heir.
"Thanks, little cousin," Sirius said with a wary smile. "I'll send her a Patronus to tell her that the fight is over." He saw the other boys in the room. "Please continue to support Harry. You have my gratitude."
"And mine," said a fully aware James Potter. He looked up at the mirror. "Thank you."
Harry turned the mirror around quickly. "Dad! How are you feeling?"
"Dizzy, but I'm fine." James smiled at his son. "Go back to what you were doing before. I'll be fine."
Harry nodded reluctantly, and they hung up. He sat there for a while in silence, but then he looked up at the other boys. "What do we do now?"
Draco stepped over to sit beside Harry on Harry's bed and wrapped an arm around his shoulders. "We do what your dad said. We go back to our games and let him take care of business. It's all we can do. He'll be fine. He seems to only have a small concussion, nothing major."
Harry was still unsure, but he nodded anyway. "Okay."
Harry worried over the next few weeks about what would happen until they got home for the summer.
Remus told him one day after class to relax. "We have this, Harry," said the gentle man.
But, Harry couldn't relax, knowing that someone out there was responsible for the attack on his dad, and might try it again. He would stay up late at night, biting his fingernails, wondering who the mastermind could be. He and his friends entered the common room after dinner and they were faced with pointed wands. Harry looked up from the wand pointed at his nose and into the dark eyes of one of the older Slytherin students. "Pucey," Harry said.
Adrian Pucey, a fifth year, stood before him glaring. "Worrying about your Blood Traitor father is weakness. We don't need that weakness in Slytherin House." He glanced over at a seventh-year student briefly before looking at Harry again. "I challenge you to a duel. If I win, you leave Slytherin."
Harry thought about the situation. Adrian wasn't acting like his usual self. Adding to that, he had glanced at an older student... but the seventh year hadn't done anything... Harry smirked. "If I win, the person or persons that put you up to this will be the lowest of the low in Slytherin house until they graduate."
People started talking in excitement and confusion. Harry and Adrian moved to the area where the duels usually happened, and Harry said, "The only rule is no dark magic. The winner is announced when the opponent is either unconscious or admits defeat."
Adrian nodded. "Agreed." He glanced out at the crowd. "No outside help."
A barrier went up around the two to protect the other Slytherins and the common room. They got in their stances and the count down began. When they were able to, they started shooting spells at the other.
A stunner came Harry's way, and he dodged. He shot back a bombarda at the floor before Adrian's feet. The floor exploded slightly, showing Harry's friends that he wasn't using all of his power, and Adrian stumbled backwards. Adrian shot cutting curses at Harry, one after another. Harry let a few hit as he dodged others, and sent some prank spells at Adrian mixed in with cutting curses to keep him on his toes.
The students around the duelers were excitedly talking about the duel, whispering to each other about who they thought would win. Some people were sure that there was no way that a third year could beat a fifth year, especially with prank spells. Other people, mostly Harry's friends, were sure that Harry would win and prove that age or pure blood doesn't mean power. Harry's friends were slowly coming around to the idea that Halfbloods and Muggleborns were pretty powerful.
The entrance to the common room opened, drawing the attention of some of the onlookers. Professor Snape swept through the crowd to stand next to Draco. "Just what is going on here?" he asked silkily.
Draco smiled up at his godfather. "Pucey challenged Harry to a duel, saying that worrying over a blood traitor was a sign of weakness. If Pucey wins, Harry has to leave Slytherin. If Harry wins, the one or ones that put Pucey up to this will be the lowest of the low in Slytherin until they graduate."
"I see," Severus said, looking over at the two duelers. He would make sure that the terms were followed. The one that didn't fulfill the terms would be ostracized by the school, perhaps, for not honoring dueling terms.
Harry was having fun, almost forgetting that this was serious, and shot tripping jinxes amongst the other spells to give a show. He was a little surprised when Pucey summoned a snake, but he smiled. "~Come here, young snake~," he said.
"~Speaker!~" the viper said, happily slithering over to Harry and up the boy's body.
Harry lifted his gaze to Adrian, starting to pet the viper with his left hand. "Not what you were expecting, is it?" He smirked at the wide eyes. It seems like the older student had forgotten that Harry was outed as a Parselmouth last year. "Let me show you what a Parselmouth can really do." Harry raised his wand. "~Serpensortia,~" he said.
Several snakes, harmless in regards to venom, shot out of the wand and slithered to Adrian who was paling by the second. The snakes shot forward and wrapped around the older boy, holding him tight. "Do you yield?" Harry asked.
Adrian looked over at the seventh year, who looked at him in disgust, and then back at Harry with a small smile. "I yield."
The snakes disappeared as the barrier fell. Harry walked over to the kneeling fifth year as the viper left with a soft farewell. "You fought well, Adrian Pucey. It was an honor fighting you."
"Likewise, Heir Potter," Adrian said.
Harry hummed. "You're wrong about my title." He smiled at Adrian's confusion. "I am Harry James Potter-Black-Peverell," he stated.
Chaos ensued as the common room filled with chatter over the revelation. Harry's friends smirked at the panic and confusion. Some people looked at Draco, asking why he wasn't the Black heir, and he told them that Arcturus Black chose Harry since Dorea Black is Harry's grandmother.
Severus Snape stepped forward. "Anyone that put Mr. Pucey up to this, step forward!"
Adrian stood on the stage, watching as the four boys and one girl stepped before Professor Snape. He nodded at the seventh year boy that still hadn't stepped forward.
"Mr. Snyder," Professor Snape said, calling to the seventh year. "Come forward." The seventh year glared at the professor, but stepped forward. Professor Snape said, "You six have conspired to have one of your own thrown out of the noble house of Slytherin, just for worrying about his father. I want you to realize a few things: James Potter is not a blood traitor for marrying a muggleborn, he didn't actually betray his family's beliefs; Harry Potter, Heir Potter-Black-Peverell is automatically the leader of Slytherin house due to his Peverell relationship, and the Black heirship just cements it; and, finally, you will honor the stakes of the duel or you will be ostracized by the whole school as well as being in detention every day until you graduate." He smirked at their looks of dismay. "What will it be?"
The six students hung their heads, even as Snyder glared at the floor over his defeat. "We agree to the terms of our defeat," said the girl.
"Very good, Miss Blythe," Professor Snape said. The other students were content to gossip about the situation, but their Head of House sent them to their dorm rooms for the night. They would have to wait to see how things would change until the next day. Severus Snape shook his head at the upheaval that the school would wake up to tomorrow. He left the common room and back to his office to finish the grading he had abandoned when the alert went off for the common room.
The next day, Monday morning, Harry led the other Slytherins to the Great Hall for Breakfast, shocking the other occupants of the school. He sat in the middle of the Slytherin table, surrounded by his friends. On his right, were the fifth thru seventh years. On his left, were the first thru fourth years. On the end of the table, between the first years and the teachers, were the six students that had started the trouble... three on each side of the table.
"What do you think is going on with the Slytherins?" Dumbledore asked his staff.
The astronomy teacher, Sinistra, shrugged. "I don't know for sure, but it looks like a shift in power."
Flitwick turned to Snape. "Can you tell us what happened?"
"I can," Snape said. He picked up his coffee cup. "All you need to know is that the six older students nearest us started trouble and have been punished accordingly." He gave Flitwick a knowing glance, letting the half-goblin know that it was something big.
Flitwick nodded. "Oh, Severus, can I speak to you in my office during lunch? I'll have the elves bring us our meal."
Severus looked at his colleague. "Of course." He was curious about what the man wanted to discuss.
At the Ravenclaw table, Hermione was staring at the Slytherin table. Something wasn't right about the seating arrangement. A note popped by her plate and she picked it up.
'Miss Granger,
Meet me in the chamber off of the Great Hall when you are done eating Breakfast. I have a task for you.
A. D.'
Hermione folded the note and put it in her pocket. She ate, thinking about what the Headmaster could possibly want her to do. She ignored the look from a small blond down the table. When she was done eating, Hermione stood from the table, grabbed her bag, and left the hall.
"Thank you for joining me here," said the Headmaster as soon as Hermione shut the door behind her.
"What task do you have for me?" she asked.
Dumbledore smiled benignly. "I want you to go back in time and find out what happened to make the Slytherin house act like they did at Breakfast. Hmm, I think ten turns should do."
"Ten hours?" Hermione asked. What could have happened ten hours ago?
Dumbledore nodded. "That would be about when Dinner let out."
"How do I follow the Slytherins without being seen? I can't be seen in two places at once." Hermione had been with the other Ravenclaws in the hall when the Slytherins were about to head down to the dungeons at that time.
"I borrowed this from a friend," Dumbledore said, handing over a cloak. "It will keep you hidden until you take it off. When you are done finding out what had happened, find a place to sleep until you need to head back to this room."
Hermione nodded. "Yes, sir." She looked at the cloak in her hands. It was a silky material.
"Wait ten minutes before you go." Dumbledore left the room.
Hermione waited for the ten minutes to end. Then she put on the cloak, seeing that her body disappeared, and turned the dial of her time-turner ten times. Hermione slipped out of the room, and waited for the Slytherins to leave the Great Hall. She followed them down to the dungeons and was just outside of the common room when she saw the wand pointed at Harry. What was going on? They all got into the common room, and Hermione stood in the corner of the room during the duel. She was shocked at the performance and the resulting revelation. Now she knew what had happened... Harry was the new leader of Slytherin. She fell into a fitful sleep in a nearby classroom.
A few hours later, she woke up to her wand's alarm. Rubbing her eyes, Hermione got up and put the cloak back on. She made her way through the hall, staying hidden... until she got closer to the room where she had disappeared from, and she opened the door.
Harry and McGonagall were standing in the room, watching the door. They had to be silent because Hermione was about to disappear into the past, and they were disillusioned. As soon as Hermione disappeared, the door opened and closed. It appeared that no one had entered the room, but soon Hermione pulled off the cloak and sighed in relief.
The Deputy Headmistress ended the disillusion spells and cleared her throat. Hermione jumped, looking up at the other two in the room. "Miss Granger, you have lots to answer for. Did you, or did you not, break into the Slytherin Common room?"
Hermione swallowed hard. "Yes, ma'am... but I was told to-"
McGonagall interrupted. "I don't care what Dumbledore told you to do. You broke the rules when you broke into the Slytherin dorms." She held out her hand. "Time-turner."
"Harry broke the rules," Hermione protested. "He dueled!"
Before McGonagall could say anything, Harry responded, "Professor Snape was in the room, so it was a sanctioned duel." He shrugged.
Hermione frowned. "I didn't see him."
"You weren't paying attention to the room." Harry frowned as he looked at the cloak. "Where did you get that?"
"Dumbledore," was Hermione's answer.
Harry walked over and gently took it, looking through the folds.
"What's wrong," McGonagall asked him, having finally taken the time-turner back from Hermione.
Harry found the symbol of the Deathly Hallows on the inside of the cloak. He looked up sharply at Hermione. "This is my family heirloom cloak," he said. "I had it yesterday morning, but I couldn't find it this morning."
"Why would Dumbledore take your family's cloak?" Hermione asked.
"That's something we will have to find out later," McGonagall said. "Miss Granger, you will serve detention every day this week. Be in my office at 7pm each day."
"But I have to study! Finals are next week!" Hermione cried out.
McGonagall pursed her lips. "You should have thought about that before you followed Heir Potter and spied on him."
Harry didn't stick around to listen to the conversation continue. He held the invisibility cloak tightly to his chest and went to the first class of the day. Defense. Sitting in his usual seat, Harry stared straight ahead, even after the class officially started.
As Sirius taught the class, he kept glancing at Harry. He could see the general area where Harry was holding the cloak, so he could guess that whatever was worrying Harry had to do with the cloak. He hoped that it wasn't big... He didn't think they could handle any more 'big' hurdles this year.
In Charms, Flitwick kept an eye on Harry as they reviewed their spells for their finals. Harry could feel the eyes on him. Perhaps Sirius noticed something and told the Charms Master. Harry went back to focusing on his spell work, helping his Gryffindor partner when needed even when the Gryffindor was a little wary of Harry's help.
Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, Harry spent a lot of time outside of classes in the Library. He had to study in thirty minute intervals. He promised his parents and godfathers that he wouldn't overdo it.
"Harry," Hermione said on Friday, when he was heading back to the Library for a much shorter study time. "Please speak to me, Harry, I'm sorry."
Harry turned to look at her. He didn't say anything, just looked at her.
"Please?" Her eyes were wide.
"Why should I speak to you? You have thrown our friendship away."
"No I didn't!" Hermione cried out. "I only did what Headmaster Dumbledore said!"
"You broke into the Slytherin Common Room and spied on me." His voice was flat as he stared at her. "Friends don't do that to friends."
