It was the day of the Stark Expo and Nik had a bad feeling about today. He wasn't sure why. Tony had finished everything for the new phone and it was ready to go. Pepper had taken care of the sponsors so SI could finance at least fifty intelligent and gifted individuals with schooling. Happy made sure security was tight so chances of someone being attacked were limited. Yet Nik couldn't shake this feeling of dread that curled in his stomach.
Thor knew how terrifyingly devastating the Destroyer was. Having seen it in action a time or two. And for it to be unleashed on the mortal realm was unthinking. The humans have no chance of defeating it. It's armor was impenetrable and infused with the Odinforce. Making the android super strong and able to cast deadly fiery beams from its eyes. Thor knew he would not be able to fight against such a formidable foe being more or less human as he was. He decided instead to help as many others to escape as he could while his Asgardian friends fought.
He longed to join them. For once it was not for the glory or thrill of battle, it was to save those who could not defend themselves. He didn't want to conquer some great and evil monster for the sake of some war story later but to stop innocents from being hurt or killed. And for that aone, Thor knew his time on Midgard had indeed changed him for the better. Perhaps this was exactly what his father had intended him to learn. Thor had learned it without even realizing until now. How having no powers at all taught him how to think about others before running into battle.
It was with a heavy heart that Thor watched as his friends were pummeled again and again. They fought vigorously until they were too wounded to continue. As he saw Sif and the Warriors Three huddled together, bleeding and battered, Thor understood that he had to do something before someone was gravely injured. Determined to accept his fate, Thor approached the Destroyer, trying to appeal to Loki through it. If his life would spare these people then so be it.
Yet Thor regained his godhood after taking a killing blow to his then mortal body to protect the people of New Mexico from The Destroyer that Loki had sent. With his powers and beloved hammer back in hand, he challenged the royal sentinel. Summoning up a whirlwind, Thor and the Destroyer battled it out in the sky. Until at last Thor was victorious. Debris littered the ground around the giant automatons lifeless body. After saying goodbye to his new friends, the Asgardians returned to Asgard to put a stop to Loki's schemes.
Laufey sat upon the All-Father as he slept, an ice dagger poised to strike the Asgardians heart. "Know your death came at the hand of Laufey." Just as he was about to pierce the shard into the sleeping king, a golden light blasted him to the floor. Loki stood in full armor with Gungnir still pointed at the Frost Giant. "And your death came from the son of Odin."
A second blast from the magical staff and Laufey was no more. Frigga embraced Loki and thanked him for saving Odin. Thor walked in and revealed how Loki had tried to kill him using the Destroyer. Loki blasted Thor out of the palace and made his way to the Bifrost.
With the strength of Gungnir to power the Bifrost bridge, Jotunheim would be demolished.
Thor chased after Loki, intent on stopping this madness. "I never wanted the Throne! I only ever wanted to be your equal." The brothers fought fiercely, each trying to gain the upper hand all while Jotunheim was torn apart by the force of the Bifrost. Thor was able to pin Loki with his hammer. Thinking quickly to stop the Frost Giants' annihilation, Thor calls Mjölnir to him so he can break the rainbow bridge and destroy the Bifrost. Loki looks on horrified. "What are you doing!?" As the bridge cracked in two, the two men were thrown flying through the air by the explosion.
Both Thor and Loki held onto either end of Gungnir as they fell. Suddenly they weren't falling. They looked up to see Odin holding Thor by the ankle. "I could have done it Father! For you! For all of us!" Loki's voice was heavy with emotion. His eyes shining with barely concealed tears. Odin looked into Loki's eyes. "No Loki." Those two little words were enough to shatter what was left of Loki's heart. Feeling numb, he let go of the staff and fell into the dark void of space.
Tony was giving his big speech in front of hundreds of people. It had taken Nik weeks to get Tony to agree to what he wanted to say. There had been a lot compromising, mostly on Nikolas' part, but it finally got done and it was good. The speech got the point across about what the Expo was for and how over the next few days, SI would be going through every project everyone had submitted and the top fifty winners would receive a full scholarship.
It was a great inspirational speech that it was such a shame when it had been cut short by a painful blood-curdling scream. Tony looked around frantically trying to find the source of the screaming. He turned his attention backstage to see Happy and Pepper standing over his PA.
Nik was on his knees, tears flowing over tightly closed eyes leaving tracks down his face. His mouth opened wide in an endless scream of pain and heartbreak as both of his hands clutched around something by his heart. Tony forced himself to continue as he watched Nik being carried away. He made some jokes and got people to go back to enjoying the Expo. Tony tried to act casually as he hurriedly left to check on his friends.
