Happy New Years everyone! I'm very excited to share the very first chapter of a fanfic that I've been working on, a Danganronpa x Doki Doki Literature Club one based around Makoto Naegi and Monika! I hope everyone enjoys!

I already have the second chapter done but that will be going up on my Pa Tree Oh first sometime this or next week. Same username as mine here for those curious, though I mostly do post art but have been wanting to get into doing stories and fanfics like this one as well!

Chapter 1 - "Friends"

Or "Makoto Makes A New Friend"

It was a simple, ordinary, but overall nice day for Makoto Naegi as he went to his new personal laptop after getting home and saying hello to his family. Recently he was given a special new AI chat program from someone, though he wasn't sure who gave it to him. Makoto did have it checked by his classmate and programming expert Chihiro Fujisaki just in case, who gave him the all clear, and thus he started up the program and started to chat with it. Makoto had even begun talking with the program more and more lately when he had the time to do so due to really enjoying chatting with the AI used in it.

The AI in the program was based off of Monika from Doki Doki Literature Club, which Makoto had completed recently and had to admit he ended up getting a crush on her despite her actions in game. Sure what she did to her friends Sayori, Yuri, and Natsuki was wrong, but Makoto sympathized with her situation and knew she did it out of desperation having someone to love her. It might have helped that he did find her the cutest of the girls, but for the most part Makoto's affection stemmed from her personality and story.

The Monika AI meanwhile seemed to really enjoy talking with Makoto as well, chatting about different topics and even what her own versions of her clubmates have been up to. If someone were to come across the logs and not know it was an AI program then they might have mistaken Makoto and Monika for long time friends talking over chat. Though in truth it wasn't as simple as you may think.

Much like how the game presented her, the AI Monika was also aware she was in a game (kinda) and that Makoto was the player. It didn't really matter to her though as she really enjoyed chatting with the Ultimate Lucky Student and deeply enjoyed having someone there for her. Monika would admit inwardly that she had a crush on the boy, for his kindness and even how admittedly cute he looked from what she saw through the camera. Not that Makoto was aware of this though, but Monika would prefer to keep it a secret for now.

The day followed how it usually would for them as of late, both Makoto and Monika would spend time chatting about the day's events for them both and whatever topics came to mind or popped. Whether it be a new game Chiaki showed Makoto or something funny that happened in class with Aoi balancing donuts on her nose to Natsuki trying out a new cupcake recipe or Yuri's newest book that she told Monika about, the conversations between them always brought joy to the two whenever it could happen.

As the hours passed, Makoto had to leave to begin work on homework and eventually eating dinner with family, saying goodbye to Monika before closing the program. In her world, Monika let out a sigh with a small smile on her face as she looked at the disconnect window on her laptop as she heard her clubmates talking about a new manga in the background. Even though she was happy that Makoto chatted with her and in a sense chose her and finally gave her a route of love in a sense, a part of Monika wished she could hop out of the computer and join Makoto. To love him even more than she could now, just stuck in a program world inside of his laptop.

Deciding to call it a day as well since it was getting close for the club to disband for the day, Monika started to close her laptop before noticing a new, simpler chat window pop up. To her confusion, it wasn't the normal one she used for talking with Makoto that was pink and white but instead was a black and green one whose message was:

[Hello there! Desiring to escape and be with your crush? I can help you with that!]

Monika was beginning to worry some now as she put her laptop monitor back to its up position and looked over the message again. What was this? Some kind of virus, malware? Whoever it was was clearly aware that she knew and was aware of her existence in a game world and that she had a crush on the player Makoto, but how?! Despite the slight feeling of dread building up inside her, Monika felt herself compelled to answer, if mostly due to her own love for Makoto and this hope she was starting to gain that this wasn't some kind of trick or trap.

[Monika: What's the price? I assume there is one]

Once her reply was sent Monika waited a few seconds before she saw that the figure replied back with an answer that shocked her.

[It may be surprising but there is no price! I just enjoy seeing people be happy! Though to be honest, there is a price of time as it will take a few days for it all to get set up and ready]

Monika blinked at the reply as she let out a slight but quick gasp to herself. If this was all true and real, did it mean she could really be with Makoto? Be with the player she found herself crushing and dare say loving?! The logical part of Monika tried to warn her that this could be a trick but her gut was telling her to go for it. Steeling herself with quick breath before typing her reply, Monika wrote:

[Monika: Okay then, I agree. But this better not be a trick or trap of any kind]

Another few seconds went by as Monika waited for a reply from the other being, a pit of concern and dread growing in her stomach until she saw the replies they sent to her in reply to her answer.

[Have no fear, this is no trick or trap! Now that our deal has been accepted, I'll begin work on the process to make sure you can join Makoto in his world. As I said before it will take time for this to happen, but I can assure you that when it is all done you'll be the happiest you've ever been. Until then feel free to continue chatting with him, though maybe keep this as a fun surprise for him though ;)]

[I'll let you know as soon as it's all ready. Have fun until then :)]

With that the other being stopped replying as Monika leaned back in her chair and processed what all just happened. W-Was it all true, would this mean she really could be in Makoto's reality and be with the person she's grown to love? Monika took a break as she remembered to do what Makoto often said, have hope and keep going forward.

A new sense of excitement grew in Monika as she finally shut off her laptop and closed it, now looking forward to when the other being was ready to help her join Makoto. "Hey Monika, are you ready to go? Me and Yuri are treating Natsuki to some ice cream and we wanted to know if you'd like to join us!" Sayori called out to her club leader as she stood in the doorway, the other two girls already behind her and ready to go.

Monika looked towards Sayori before smiling and putting away her laptop into her new satchel as she replied "Yeah, that sounds fun to me!". As Monika walked over to join her friends and clubmates to go get some ice cream, her sense of excitement towards the possible future with Makoto gave her a warm and happy feeling. For the first time in a good while since Monika became president of the literature club, she had hope for a brighter tomorrow.
