Villainess.
Her grip loosened around the limb of her bow. The thin strap holding up the quiver on her back slid past her right shoulder until it hooked itself onto her elbow. The weight of the quiver dangling from her elbow suddenly felt too heavy that she stumbled.
To say she was frozen in shock was an understatement. Nothing could have prepared her for this.
She believed she had seen and experienced it all, but how could she have been so naive?
Cunning.
It wasn't too long ago that she had accepted her cruel fate and made the decision to keep holding on. Day in and day out she told herself to never give up, that her luck was bound to change. She foolishly told herself that one day she will overcome her trials and tribulations, and in the end all that was left was ridiculous happiness.
But this was her breaking point.
Deep down she already knew no one would believe her.
There was too much scorn and hate embracing her little light of hope and it was dangerously close to flickering out of existence.
Narcissistic.
She will never be the protagonist.
Malicious.
A sharp gasp sounded through the clearing as she quickly stumbled a few steps back, narrowingly missing the claws that swept down inches away from her face. Wide and fearful eyes looked up and locked onto the crazed reddening hues she dearly loved and would do anything for.
Accustomed to his cold rejection and disinterest, not once did she ever think this level of anger would ever be directed at her.
But there was no time to ponder on the sentimental. Feet pivoting, she quickly took to the forest.
Vile.
Her senses told her he wasn't too far behind.
Alone.
The village elder, Kaede, once whispered words of comfort in the safety of the shadows away from any eyes of scrutiny. Kaede's nurturing was her only refuge in her time of loneliness and when Kaede could not pull her out of the pit of darkness, worry had won over. Without hesitance, Kaede gifted her with a beaded necklace blessed in holy prayer.
"Memorize it." Kaede had told her firmly, and with just as much conviction, she warned, "Do not hesitate when the time comes to use it."
A sudden loud roar brought her back to her damned reality. She lost track of how long she had been running, but she saw a familiar path and took it. She was fighting a losing battle and she knew it. He was a half-demon and she was merely a human. She could never outrun him. Her lungs burned as she focused on taking in large gulps of air to drown out the cramps straining her calves.
She couldn't afford to stop. Not yet at least.
Another roar of anger bellowed from behind her. Without looking back, she fought the pain and pushed herself to run faster. Reaching into the folds of her miko garb, she grabbed the beaded necklace and blessed it with the prayer she had memorized.
Manipulative.
Seeing the well, she came to a sudden halt and whipped around to face the half-demon bulldozing towards her.
With one last whisper of the prayer, she threw the beaded necklace towards the oncoming attacker. The necklace landed on its mark and shrunk around his unsuspecting neck before it could be hurled off.
Caught off-guard and further inflamed with anger, he made attempts to remove the necklace but it wouldn't budge. It didn't take long before he fully registered what had happened. But he soon realized it didn't matter, because she was there, and she had nowhere else to run.
He stalked close to his prey.
Wicked.
She matched his pace and took a step back as he took one closer.
She was heaving. Breathless as she choked on words of self-defense. Her one last chance to explain what happened and that it wasn't what it looked like.
But he didn't listen. He didn't want to hear a single word she desperately spat out. Despite the fact her heart was ripping itself apart inside her, she tried her best.
It wasn't her fault.
It really wasn't her.
Hostile.
When all hope was nearly lost, she closed her eyes and braced herself. With a soft whisper, she spoke one word that activated the beaded necklace.
Immediately he went down with his face planted into the earth by an invisible force he could not fight.
She tried again to explain the situation. But he still fought back. By the time he had staggered back onto his feet, she had used the last bit of her power to form an arrow made of pure miko energy.
Tears rolled down her cheeks as her lips trembled.
She loved him with all her heart.
She bit down on her lips till it drew blood. Her eyes squeezed shut and she let go of the arrow, but it failed to meet its target. Even as she was misunderstood and falsely accused, she didn't have the courage to point her arrow at him.
She was exhausted.
The little light of hope she had finally flickered out.
Kagome
Ashamed and dejected, the least she could do was not die by his hands. So, she made a choice. She decided how and when her life would end.
She spoke the commanding word again.
With no will to continue this farce, she dragged herself towards the well.
Kagome
She struggled to dispel the heaviness of her heart.
Kagome
Climbing onto the lip of the well, she looked down into the darkness.
With one last look back at him…she jumped.
"KAGOME!"
Coughing uncontrollably, she didn't have the time to catch her breath before another kick landed swiftly on her stomach. Blood spurted out her lips and all she could do was squeeze her eyes shut and groan through the pain.
"You've become pathetic, Kagome."
Bracing herself for another blow, she curled into a tight ball and rode out the pain with muffled screams.
There were so many questions running rampant through her head. Why now? How did he find her? When did her past catch up to her?
When the next blow didn't come, Kagome looked towards where her adopted family was held. They were bound and gagged with guns pointed at their heads.
The dark figure hovering above her was speaking, but she couldn't hear past her fear as she watched her family. It happened so fast.
Her little brother fought against the restraints and wailed, but instead he was met with a quick end. His lifeless body fell forward.
Her mother was next. She didn't give them the satisfaction of begging. Her lips mouthed words of love and adoration before her eyes slid shut for the final time. Soon she fell forward too.
Grandfather fought back. He fought so hard that she was surprised to see him running towards her. With renewed defiance, she took advantage of the opportunity her grandfather created.
While her captor was distracted at the commotion grandfather caused, she quickly put some distance between herself and her enemies. Grateful for the diversion, she rushed at her discarded bow and arrows. With practiced ease, she had an arrow notched onto the bowstring, and aimed.
She let go.
The arrow speared through the air engulfed in a white flame that sparked at the tip of the arrowhead. Demons scurried away as the pure holy energy whizzed past them and towards her captor. With an angered snarl, he jumped into the air to avoid the blow.
From down below Kagome watched with a frown, grunting in frustration when he evaded her attack. By now grandfather had made his way to her side. He pulled at her arm, urging her away from demons. Giving into his tugs, she let herself be dragged away.
Why were they going to the well-house? She didn't have time to question her grandfather, because before she could utter a sound, grandfather had embraced her into a tight hug and then shoved her with a brute force towards the well-house door.
She didn't have time to react.
Crashing through the door, her feet stumbled backwards until she felt the hardwood of the well against her back.
She was too slow.
He lurched forward and pushed her into the well's mouth. Her arms flailed around her to grab onto his arms. As if time slowed to mock her, her eyes widened when grandfather's head separated from his shoulder.
"No…No, this can't be happening…NO!"
Hi everyone!
I've been obsessed with 'villainess' manhwa lately and thought, why not write one with a Inuyahsa twist. Hope you enjoyed. Let me know what you think :)
