I'm back! Sorry about my absence. You know the how it is, school/life/motivations being the key factor for why i haven't published anything in a while. But let's not dwell on that! Let's jump right in!
Kirk and the others ran back inside the village to see all the people panicking. Women and children were running around in terror into their huts while the men were getting weapons such as spears and bows, all the while pointing to the tunnel to the outside.
The Shobijin (who were still in Spock's hands) said, "The entrance has been destroyed. The Klingons have found our village. Please, you must help us" The twins said to Kirk and his friends, making them look down at them. "Please, the Klingons know about most of the Kaiju on the planet and that includes Mothra. They know that only we know how to awaken her. If we are captured, Mothra won't be able to wake up."
Kirk looked at the Shobijin with sympathy and determination. Even if they hadn't asked for help, Kirk would have gladly given it anyway. Given what the Klingons have been doing on the planet and given that they're about to storm a village and kill who know how many people, there's no way Kirk would just stand aside and let that happen.
He looked back at the entrance with a determined face before turning to his companions. "Sulu, Bones, you're with me, we'll help fight off the Klingons." To wich the Shobijin smiled in gratitude while Sulu nodded before talking out his phaser. Dr. McCoy grumbled something about "Why does this always happen to us" before pulling out his own phaser. Kirk turned to Spock and said, "Spock, you keep the twins safe." To which Spock nodded before running of with the twins.
"So, do you have a plan, Jim?" McCoy asked curiously while staring at the tunnel.
"For now, we need to concentrate on keeping the Klingons away from the women and children and most importantly, away from the Shobijin." Kirk said while seeing that the warriors of the tribe have all taken positions around the tunnel entrance. "Find cover and ready your phasers. The Klingons won't give up without a fight."
Sulu and McCoy nodded before following Kirk who began running towards the tunnel entrance, ready to defend the Iwi people.
Korg and his companion had just disintegrated one of the planet's native's when they heard sounds coming from the tunnel.
"Seems the natives are in a panic." Korg stated to his comrade.
Said comrade asked, "Shall we give some real panic then?"
"Of course." Korg said, "but not right away." To which his companion gave a confused look at Korg.
"We'll wait for the rest of the men to show up." he explained. While Korg didn't doubt that their fire power was superior to the natives, he didn't want to take any chances, especially since Captain Kirk was no doubt going to aid them. "We'll show these people what happens when you defy the Klingon Empire." Korg stated with a smirk, which his companion copied.
It was very silent as everyone in the cave waited for some form of response from the Klingons. The men were all staring in silent determination at the entrance, waiting for a chance to strike against the enemy and protect their families. Spears and swords being carried by those closest to the entrance while the ones with bows were hiding behind rocks, huts and other types of make-shift cover, with arrows drawn at the entrance.
As for the enterprise crew, Kirk, Sulu and McCoy were behind one of the huts closest to the entrance, phasers drawn. Kirk and McCoy were showing only determination and calmness while Sulu kept darting his eyes around nervously. You could practically cut through the tension with a knife.
Spock was in the main hut at the end of the chamber with Shobijin, his phaser drawn as well. All three being very calm on the outside. Although the two tiny women exchanged worried glances at each other from time to time.
Back with the others, Sulu leaned over to Kirk and whispered nervously, "Captain. Why..."
"Aren't they attacking right away?" Kirk whispered back in response. "Probably to make us on edge and to come up with a plan. Even Klingons startegize for their battles."
"Makes me wish we had a plan." Bones grumbled.
Before kirk could comment on McCoy's pessimism, he turned his attention back to the entrance as they could hear movement in the tunnel as steps echoed into the chamber. The crew and the natives steeled themselves as they waited for the Klingons to show themselves.
Right as the sounds seemed closest to the entrance something came out of the tunnel, but it wasn't a Klingon. It was a small object that landed on the cave floor and bounced a little before rolling down to an overturned cart where 5 natives were waiting. They looked down at the small object in confusion and fear as they could hear a ticking sound from it.
Kirk looked at the object and even from his distance he could see what it was. "A sonic grenade!" he thought in panic before shouting, "Run! Take cover!" before diving down behind the hut with McCoy and Sulu and a few of the other natives following his lead. The ones behind the cart, weren't so lucky as the grenade blew up and flung them quite some distance. This was enough to make the natives panic once more with a few of the soldiers even running away from the entrance, though most of them remained at their posts.
There was a scream coming from the tunnel before eight Klingons came running into the chamber with phasers drawn, with Korg in the lead. They fired phaser blasts at the nearest natives, immediately disintegrating them. Those that weren't hit tried to put some distance between them and the Klingons while also shooting a few arrows. Most of the arrows missed although some made contact with the Klingons. One of them got an arrow in his left arm while one of them got hit in the chest and crumpled down dead. The remaining Klingons made their way to the left side of the chamber from the entrance and sought cover behind another cart before resuming their assault.
Kirk and company also joined the fray with their own phaser blasts. However, their attention was diverted from the Klingons when they saw one of their blasts hit one of the huts further into the chamber, setting it one fire.
"Bones!" Kirk shouted to his friend. "Try to put out that fire!" McCoy gave a firm nod before going away to put out the fire before it spread, with a few natives joining him. Kirk turned back and fired his phaser, managing to stun one of them while Sulu fire at another, who managed to avoid the shot by ducking. Korg hid behind the cart while the others continued to fire. He pulled out a communicator and spoke into it, "We're in position, start phase two." to which came a short reply "Acknowledged." causing Korg to smirk in anticipation before switching the frequency to make another call.
Meanwhile, on the north side of the planet.
Scotty was being led through the corridors of the base with two guards on either side of him, plus one behind him. Koloth was taking him to the science lab in order to work on something. What exactly, he didn't know, because Koloth hasn't said what it is other than "It will be the instrument of the empire's greatest triumph". After a few minutes they had arrived at a door.
Before Koloth could've escorted Scotty inside, he heard a blip from his communicator. Scotty eyed his captor curiously when he brought out his comm unit before walking out of earshot. After a minute Koloth put away his communicator and walked back to Scotty with a smirk on his face.
"Well, you seem to be in a good mood." Scotty stated.
Koloth gave short laugh and said, "But of course, I have just been informed that my plans are moving along splendidly." Turning his head to one of the guards he said, "Keep an eye on him for a few moments." Before walking through the door.
Scotty could only wait in dread and anticipation for what would happen next. Waiting inside a giant ice cave with trigger-happy Klingons around every corner. Taking a glance at his guards, who only stared back with blank indifference, Scotty hoped that his captain and shipmates were having better luck than him.
In the Iwi village.
Kirk and Sulu continued to fire at the enemy, with Sulu managing to stun one more of them when there came more screaming from the tunnel and eight more Klingons came running. While Kirk and the Iwi refocused their attention on the new group, two of the Klingons from the first group slipped away further into the chamber while their enemies were distracted.
Meanwhile, in the main hut, Spock and the Shobijin were wearily listening to the sound of fighting going on outside, silently wondering how the battle was going. The twins kept sending worried glances at each other, something Spock took notice of.
"Is something bothering you?" he asked.
The twins looked up at him and said, "We're just worried about what would happen if the Klingons succeeded. We are the only ones who can help Mothra awaken from her cocoon."
"The only ones?" Spock asked, to which the girls nodded.
"We are the only ones who can communicate with Mothra telepathically. Unless we help her awaken when the time comes, she will keep slumbering until she dies."
Spock thought for a few seconds before asking, "What if I told you there was a way I could help? If Ghidorah is released, it will spell trouble for both this planet and the rest of the galaxy. Since i am part Vulcan, i am partially telepathic. i might be able to help you Please allow me to help you."
The two girls looked at each other before turning back to Spock. "Even so, there isn't enough time to explain what you must do to awaken Mothra."
"Then perhaps I have a solution to that problem as well." Spock said as he put aside his phaser and leaned down to the Shobijin in order to explain his plan.
Meanwhile, outside the battle had started winding down. Even with the Klingons superior weaponry, the sheer numbers of the natives, as well as the assistance of Kirk and company had ensured that they stood a fighting chance against their common enemy. Most of the remaining Klingons were either dead at the hands of the natives' arrows or stunned by the Crew's phasers.
McCoy had just helped to put out the hut that caught fire early in the battle. Having done that, he went back to his friends to give them his support. As soon as he reached Kirk, he pulled out his phaser and asked, "How's it going Jim?" to which Kirk replied, "Fine, Bones, we've almost beaten them"
McCoy looked at the tunnel entrance and said, "Was that really all of them? To which Kirk looked at him in confusion. McCoy shook his head and continued, "It's just felt almost too easy. I mean, aren't Klingons are supposed to be better fighters than this?"
Kirk pondered his friend's question for a second before hearing the natives shout in joy. Turing back to the wagon where the Klingons had been attacking, the two could see that the enemy had been wiped out. Seeing this the two Enterprise crew members and some natives went over to make sure.
McCoy got out his tricorder and scanned the bodies before looking at the results.
"Most of them are dead. Only three survived." He pointed a foot at one who still had an arrow in his arm. "The natives sure know how to handle themselves. Even against Klingons." McCoy put away his tricorder went separate the dead ones from the stunned ones.
Kirk and Sulu looked at each other. "I'll help him captain." Sulu said, but before he moved, a scream pierced through the chamber, two screams to be precise, and they came from the center hut. Kirk, Sulu and most of the natives ran as fast as they could towards the hut, hoping it wasn't too late.
A few moments earlier.
The Shobijin had accepted Spock's plan and performed the necessary preparations when two figures emerged from the hut entrance, Korg and one other Klingon, who immediately went on the attack. As the two girls screamed, Korg tackled Spock, hoping to knock him out while the other one tried to grab the two girls. The girls tried to run but still got caught in the Klingons hands.
After being tackled to the ground, Spock managed to get off a few hits on his opponents' face, knocking him back before bringing up his phaser to fire, only to have it kicked out of his hand by the other Klingon, who was holding the struggling girls in one hand each. Before he could respond, Spock was kicked in the head by Korg, getting knocked out in the process.
"Finnish him of commander Korg!" he said to his superior.
"No! We haven't the time. We must get these two to captain Koloth at once." Korg explained to his subordinate before bringing out his communicator. "We have them sir. Beam us back quickly!"
"Acknowledged." Came Koloth's reply. Korg had just put away his communicator when Kirk dashed into the hut and fired a a phaser shot right into Korg's chest, stunning him and knocking him to the ground.
Before Kirk could fire another shot, the air shimmered and a familiar sound was heard. As Korg and his comrade, along with the two girls were beamed away.
Kirk looked at the spot where they had been in confusion. Sulu and McCoy ran into the hut. after seeing that it was empty, Sulu asked, "Where are they?"
"Gone" Kirk replied while putting away his phaser. "They teleported away."
"What?" Sulu gave his captain a look of bewilderment and incredulousness while McCoy went to tend to Mr. Spock. "But I thought the transporters didn't work on this planet."
"Well apparently they know how to get them to work." Came McCoy's reply while he checked up on Spock.
"How is he doctor?" asked Sulu.
"Other than a few bruises and a concussion, he's fine." After giving his diagnosis, the doctor pulled out his other equipment and went to work on mending his comrade.
Kirk and Sulu went into a corner to talk.
"I can't believe we failed." Sulu spoke in a defeated tone. "We should've seen this coming."
"Yes, we should have." Kirk agreed. "But we can't change what happened. Right now we need to figure out a way of brining those girls back."
"He's coming around Jim." Said Dr. McCoy after having injected Spock with something to help him regain consciousness. Kirk went over to help his friend back on his feet. Once this had been done he asked, "How do you feel Spock?"
"I am fine Captain." Spock replied stoically, before bringing his hand to his head. "Though not 100% it would seem."
"They took the girls Spock." Sulu said.
"I see." Spock replied. "Then we need to rescue them, and stop Ghidorah from being unleashed."
"But how?" Sulu asked.
Before anyone could answer, a group of the natives ran into the hut, looking all over for their tiny guardians. When the couldn't find them, they turned to the Enterprise crew, hoping for an explanation.
"I'm afraid the Klingons were successful in capturing the Shobijin." Spock said to the assembled natives. when they heard this, they looked down to the floor in sadness, some even bringing their hands to their faces as they realize they had failed in protecting them.
"But weren't they the only ones who could wake Mothra?" Kirk asked, and giving the natives something new to worry over as they realized he was right and the time for Mothra's awakening was almost upon them.
"Yes, but they have given me the knowledge needed for me to awaken Mothra." Spock said, making everyone in the hut pause in confusion. Seeing their befuddlement, Spock elaborated, "Before the two Klingons arrived, i convinced them to do a Vulcan mind meld with me, in case the Klingons were successful in their attempt. It seems i was correct to do so."
The natives were both overjoyed at hearing this, but were also a little skeptic at an outsider being able to perform what the Shobijin had done for untold generations.
"I know i am merely an outsider to you," Began Spock seeing the natives hesitation "But right now, we must rescue the Shobijin and ensure that Ghidorah does not escape his imprisonment. and besides that we must ensure that Mothra hatches safely. Surely you understand this?"
The natives looked at each other before looking back to Spock, one of them saying, "We understand stranger. We will make the necessary preparations." before gesturing to the others to do just that. Sulu turned to Spock and asked, "So once Mothra's woken up, then what?"
"Then i will communicate my plan to her." responded Spock. "She will be able to convince Godzilla to head towards the north side of the planet, and if my calkulations are correct..."
"That should get the Klingons attention." Finished Kirk, "Thus making them send out some of their ships and giving us a bigger chance of sneaking in with the shuttle and rescuing the girls."
"Precisely." confirmed Spock
"Then what are we standing around for?" McCoy asked rhetorically. "Let's get to work."
And upon that note, they went out of the hut with a new sense of determination, ready to face the challenges that lie ahead.
And that's a wrap. I really wanted to update this story a bit since i haven't done so in a while. By the way, let me know what you thought of the action scenes. I'm still not confident when it comes to writing such scenes.
But anyway, i will get back to writing my X-men: Evolution story right away (i've got so many ideas for it). So with all that said, i hope you guys enjoyed this chapter and i'll see you next time.
Excelsior!
