Happy Fourth of July! (Said the guy who doesn't even live in the US). Anyway, i'm back with another chapter of this crossover. You know how it is: life, studies, motivation etc. But enough about that, you're here to read the new chapter so that's what you're going to get. Let's dive in, shall we?
It took about thirty minutes to douse all the fires the battle with the Klingons had caused and it took an additional twenty minutes to prepare the ceremony for summoning Mothra. Not to mention that McCoy had helped to check out and give medical aid to the people who'd been hurt in the attack. While several had been killed/vaporized in the battle and several others had been injured, they had been mostly limited to the soldiers defending the village. Only about five to eight civilians had been killed or injured thanks to the efforts of the Enterprise crew and the Iwi defenders. In addition, the three Klingons who had survived the attack had been tied up in one of the huts in the village and kept under guard. Kirk intended to have them interrogated later to see if they could pry something useful from them.
Now though, Kirk, McCoy and Sulu looked around as the natives set up several big ceremonial drums in the chamber around the lake facing Mothra's cocoon. They could also spot several other instruments that looked very similar to earth instruments. If they didn't know any better, the crew would say that they were about to watch a concert.
"I wonder what kind of ceremony we're about to see." Sulu mused aloud as he watched the Iwi work.
"I just hope it will be enough to wake Mothra." Kirk said as he looked at Mothra's cocoon. To think that inside that thing was their best chance of stopping the Klingons from freeing Ghidorah. Kirk and his crew had been through many dangers in the past, but it seemed now they were facing something special.
"What I want to know is how they expect to wake Mothra exactly?" McCoy questioned as he scanned the cocoon with his Tricorder. Even from across the small lake he was still able to get a good reading.
Looking at the results, he said, "I don't get it. She caused a small earthquake before but now she's barely showing any activity. I'd sure like to know how playing some instruments is going to wake her up."
"Maybe the music has a certain function?" Kirk hypothesized. "Maybe it's the people's way of communicating with Mothra? You know, without the Shobijin."
"Yeah." Sulu agreed, although he also wasn't sure what music could do. "Or maybe they just use the loud noise to wake her up?"
"I can ensure you Ensign," Spock said as he walked over to the group "Mothra won't be roused with just any loud noise."
Kirk and company paused for a moment to take in Spock, or more specifically his outfit. He'd traded his regular Starfleet uniform for some kind of ceremonial dress. It was mostly light orange like the Shobijin's dresses and had a golden strap around the waist. Spock was also wearing a kind of head-band that appeared to be made of a white, fur like material. The dress also didn't have any sleeves and he also had no boots or anything covering his feet.
"What's with the get-up Spock?" McCoy asked in confusion.
"This is a traditional dress worn by the head priest assigned to accompany the Shobijin in performing the ceremony to awaken Mothra. Since they are not here it falls to me alone to perform the ceremony." Spock replied as he gestured towards the dess.
"Oh. Okay." McCoy replied dumbly, not sure what else to say about it.
"When you say 'perform', Spock, what do you mean exactly?" Kirk asked.
"You will see, Captain." Spock replied, not elaborating on what he had to do. One of the natives went up and whispered in his ear. "The ceremony is about to begin." Spock said as he started making his way over to the edge of the lake, his comrades following after.
Kirk and company stood a few meters away, to give Spock some space as he prepared himself for the ceremony. Spock looked at Mothra's cocoon for a second, before turning to the village chief and nodding his head, giving the signal to start. The chief in turn said some words to the crowd. Soon, the drummers started drumming. They built up a loud, bombastic tune, soon joined by the other instruments of the natives.
After a few moments, Spock put his hand together, looked up and, to the surprise of Kirk, McCoy and Sulu, he started to sing.
(Mothra's theme-1961 version)
To the enterprise crew, Spock's voice sounded surprisingly beautiful (though McCoy would never admit so out loud). He sang with a hint of passion in his voice which you definitely wouldn't find in his normal, deadpan speaking voice. As he finished the first few lyrics, the cocoon started glowing a light blue color. It was small at first but eventually it started encompassing the entire cocoon.
Many of the Iwi who weren't playing started to get on their knees and bow towards the cocoon. Kirk and co even started to feel a calming influence come over them. McCoy brought out his Tricorder again and scanned the cocoon once more.
"She starting to show more activity." McCoy leaned in and whispered/shouted into Kirk's ear, so as not to disturb the ceremony. And indeed, the cocoon was slightly starting to move. After a short instrumental break, Spock sang the chorus over again.
Sulu, for his part, was captivated by the performance and the effect it was having on Mothra's cocoon. Spock surprisingly good singing voice aside, the lyrics he was singing really resonated with Sulu. In fact, he felt like he recognized the language Spock was singing. Regardless, it was a performance he likely wouldn't forget any time soon.
After finishing the chorus a second time, the Iwi drummers played a few more drumbeats before the music stopped. But then, the cocoon started to shake again. Everyone around had to steady themselves to keep from falling over, as the cocoon started to crack open. Two insectoid legs started to pierce through the cocoon's shell before opening up to allow the rest of the body to come out.
Kirk could honestly say that the sight of Mothra filled him with a sense of joy he'd hardly ever felt before. Mothra looked, as the name implied, like a giant moth. She had two long hind legs with two joints and two clawed toes along with four forelimbs, two on each side of her body, with one large pair and one smaller pair. She also had two long muscular forelimbs that end in large, hooked claws. She had white fur which surrounded her eyes along with some brown-orange fur on her forehead which, as far as Kirk could see, appeared to also cover the rest of her body. She also possessed two large white antennae which currently lay flat against the top of her head. She crawled a few feet into the lake water before opening her large, oval-shaped eyes, along with raising up her antennae. She then let out a short cry before spreading her wings, whilst the rest of her body practically radiated of blue bioluminescence. From what they could see, Mothra's wings each composed of two segments: a larger segment near the front of her body and a smaller segment toward the rear. There was also a circular pattern on both sides of the front corners of Mothra's wings which almost looked like eyes.
From what McCoy could see, he estimated Mothra to be about 52 feet tall and about 90 feet long, with a wingspan 803 feet. All in all, the Enterprise away team could clearly see why she was called Queen of the Monsters as they were in awe by the sight. All the Iwi people went down on their knees and bowed to the Queen, with the majority even bowing so low that their heads were touching the ground. Upon seeing Spock doing the same, Kirk gave a look to McCoy and Sulu, and they all bowed down as well, so as not to seem disrespectful.
Mothra lowered her wings before looking towards the shore. But upon looking at the shore she gave what sounded like a confused cry, as well as tilting her head upon seeing Spock. Most likely since it was usually the Shobijin who would wake her up from her cocoon stage. Spock went up on his legs before slowly walking towards the water. Mothra herself started walking towards him, though slowly and cautiously and not in a threatening way.
Sulu looked at Kirk and asked, "Should we do something Captain?"
Kirk held up his left hand and said, "No. I don't think Spock's in any immediate danger. Besides, we should trust that he can handle himself."
Spock stopped after taking a few steps into the water, to the point where the water covered his feet, and stood still as Mothra stopped right in front of him and lowered her head down to his level, giving him a look of curiosity.
"I don't know if you can understand me," Spock said as he looked at Mothra "But believe me when I say that I am here to help. The Shobijin need your help." he slowly put up his hands, showing her he truly meant no harm. And then, ever so slowly so as not to spook her, Spock started reaching out to touch her. "Let me show you."
Mothra retracted her head a little when Spock started reaching out to touch her, but then she lowered it more to allow Spock to touch her head. Spock place both hands on her head, with the tips of his fingers first, before leaning in more, turning his head to the side and closing his eyes.
Kirk and the others saw this and were astonished by the sight.
"Is he seriously going to perform a mind meld on that thing?" McCoy whispered to Kirk.
"On her, Bones." Kirk corrected quietly, not wanting someone to overhear them. "And yes, it looks that way."
"But why?" McCoy questioned. "Is that the only way he can communicate with her?"
"I think that it's the only way to show that we're sincere about helping out." Kirk theorized. He hoped he was right as well, since this is one of the few times he knew he was out of his depth, Kirk really hoped that Spock could convince Mothra of their good intentions.
Spock looked comparatively small compared to Mothra's head and, indeed, Spock found it a bit awkward to initiate a mind meld with a creature so large. Still, Spock began to initiate the mind meld, knowing it would be the best way to show Mothra that they were there to help. While he didn't necessarily believe in the concept of hope, he did believe that his logical mind could convince Mothra to aid them against their common enemy and prevent disaster should the Klingons free Ghidorah.
"My mind to your mind." Spock began reciting, focusing his telepathic abilities. "My thoughts, to your thoughts. We are one."
And there it was. The sensations that came when using the Vulcan mind meld. Usually, most experienced Vulcans could deal with the strong emotions that surfaced when mind melding with other races, although it was difficult. Here however, Spock found himself overwhelmed by the emotions Mothra brought out of him. Of all the beings he had encountered in the universe thus far, very few have been able to bring out his repressed emotions.
However, years of training and discipline allowed him to keep those emotions at bay, allowing him to focus on his task.
Mothra and Spock communicated telepathically, allowing the queen to see what has transpired while she was undergoing her metamorphosis. When she 'read' the part about the Shobijin being captured, her blue bioluminescence turned frighteningly red.
Everyone took a step back in fear, especially when Spock let out a loud yell in anger.
"They took them!" Spock shouted in a voice that sounded like a combination of his own along with a more feminine voice, though that did little to distract from the furry the combined voice conveyed. "They took them! They will pay!" But then they started to quit down. The red glow started dying down, not dissipating altogether but dimming slightly.
"But there are more pressing concerns." Spock/Mothra said in a slightly calmer tone, though still carried a hint of anger. Suddenly, Spock's expression became one of fear. "Ghidorah." they said in a frightened voice. "They intend to release Ghidorah? We can't allow that to happen." their voice/voices sounded more determined despite the obvious fear that was still present. They quieted down a bit as the red glow started to simmer down almost completely.
"Yes. That could work." Spock, as well as Mothra's faces seemed to be scrunched up in concentration. It seemed Spock was communicating his plan to her. "We must make haste. Ghidorah must not awaken. If he does, the universe will suffer." their voice/voices were now soundly expressing determination but also urgency at the task ahead.
The red glow had finally faded back to blue as Spock opened his eyes and broke off the mind meld. Stepping back and allowing Mothra to stand back up. She looked down at Spock and gave a soft cry. Spock gave a short bow before turning towards his comrades and gestured for them to come over to him. Once they had done so, he explained what Mothra wished.
"She is aware of the situation and has accepted our help." Spock said, much to the relief of Kirk and the others. "She will contact Godzilla and they will head north to distract the Klingons while we sneak in and rescue the Shobijin."
Kirk, McCoy and Chekov shared delighted smiles with each other, happy to have the Queen on board with their plan. They all looked up at Mothra, who gazed at them curiously, and bowed down.
"Thank you for allowing us to help." Kirk said as he looked back up at her with a determined expression. "We won't let those girls come to any harm. And we'll stop Ghidorah's awakening any way we can."
Mothra gave what they could only assume was a similar determined gaze before she turned her head towards the opening in the ceiling.
"I believe it would be advisable to step back Captain." Spock said as Mothra stepped back into the water and started spreading her wings.
Taking his first officer's advice, Kirk did so and ordered everyone else to do the same. "You heard him, get back. Give the queen some room." The Iwi started doing just that, taking the instruments with them as everyone, including the enterprise crew backed up so as not to be terribly affected when Mothra took off.
Once everyone had backed up sufficiently, Mothra spread her giant wings before flapping them, generating a powerful wind current in process. Said current was so strong it knocked a few people of their feet and created waves in the water. After a few more flaps, she started rise into the air bore flying up through the whole, giving a shrill cry as she flew of, intending to find Godzilla and stop Ghidorah once and for all.
After a few moments to absorb what just happened, all the Iwi broke out in cheer at seeing their Queen reborn once again. Kirk and company could themselves feel the jubilation the Iwi felt. But they knew that they still had some work to do.
"So," Sulu asked as he looked at his fellow officers. "What do we do now?" Kirk looked at his fellow officers with a serious expression as he came up with their course of action.
"First, we interrogate those three Klingons to see if they have any information about their base, maybe even codes to help us get in easier. Then we head back to the shuttlecraft and use it to get up north where we stop the rest of them from awakening Ghidorah and rescue the Shobijin."
"There are a lot of uncertainties about that plan Captain." Spock said.
"I know." Kirk admitted. "I'm making this up as we go along. Though I don't think we have a lot of options right now. We must make sure the Klingons don't release Ghidorah. We don't know how far they've come but considering they just kidnapped the Shobijin I'm guessing they're very close right now."
"That would be a reasonable assumption." Spock agreed. "But that also means that they most likely have a way of controlling Ghidorah. And them kidnapping the Shobijin is their way of ensuring Mothra won't strike against them now that she's free from her cocoon.
"Well then what are we standing around for?" McCoy asked rhetorically. "Let's go then. We need to get moving."
"Agreed." Kirk said as they all turned around and started heading back towards the main village area. Once they walked into the massive cave structure, Spock turned to his comrades and said, "I'll change back into my uniform. You go ahead and interrogate our 'guests'".
As Spock walked off, Sulu turned to the others with a mischievous smile on his face and said, "You know, I'm betting he secretly enjoyed that."
"Which part?" McCoy asked in amusement. "The dress or the concert he put on?"
"Why not both?" Sulu shrugged. "I like seeing Spock express himself. Makes him seem more human, you know."
McCoy gave a short laugh and crossed his arms, saying, "That's because he is human. No matter how much he tries to deny it."
"Yes well, that's something he'll always have to deal with." Kirk said as he stared after Spock. "However, I believe we have an appointment to keep?" he asked rhetorically, to which McCoy and Sulu voiced their agreement. But Sulu suddenly got confused look on his face as a thought occurred to him.
"So, where are the Klingons being held exactly?" Sulu asked Kirk, who paused before looking around in confusion.
"Ummm..." Kirk said uncertainly.
McCoy gave a sigh and face-palmed in exasperation. "Guess we'll have to ask for directions." He said out loud, to which Kirk and Sulu agreed, the former looking sheepish.
After finding one of the village warriors and asking for directions, the crew were taken to the hut where the Klingons prisoners were being kept. Turns out the hut was in one of the other tunnels connected to the main chamber. Kirk, McCoy and Sulu stood at the opening of the hut watching the three Klingons, two of which were tied up with rope around their ankles and wrists, with their arms behind their backs. They sat with their backs along the wall and were glaring at the Starfleet officers with the amount of hatred you would expect from a Klingon. While both of them had short black hair and the fuzzy, upturned eyebrows common for the species, one of them had a stubble beard while the other was clean shaven.
The third one was lying down on a small bed off to the right side of the hut. He was the one who had taken an arrow in his arm during the battle and was currently being treated by one of the tribe's healers. He currently had his arm in a sling and was lying down while the healer, a woman, was propping his head up and giving him water from a bucket. To the crew's surprise, the Klingon was happily drinking the water without a second thought. McCoy looked towards one of the guards watching over the prisoners with a questioning look, to which the guard responded with, "He was very eager to get his wound treated, much more than his two companions."
Kirk, McCoy and Sulu could only give each other confused looks. A Klingon willingly accepting help from another species? That's not something they had ever heard of before.
Their confusion was forgotten when the bearded Klingon gave a cough and angrily asked, "What do you want?"
"We just want some information gentlemen." Kirk said as he put his arms up, trying to be diplomatic. A difficult task when dealing with Klingons sure, but at the moment he had to try.
His companion, the clean-shaven one, scoffed and said, "Information. Bah! You just want our help ruining our months of hard work here!"
"Considering that work involved digging up a supposedly powerful space dragon and using it as a weapon against the rest of the universe then, yes, we do want to 'ruin your work.'" McCoy said sarcastically. Kirk gave him a stern glare. He was trying to reason with them as best he could, and his friend's attitude wasn't helping matters.
The two Klingons snarled and started to struggle in their bindings, which didn't do them much good and only resulted in the clean-shaven one falling over on the floor, much to the, silent, amusement of the Enterprise crew. The guards meanwhile, leveled their spears at the two, just in case they had any surprises stored on them (which was unlikely given the they had been searched for any weapons before they had been taken to the hut, but best to be careful).
The bearded one who hadn't fallen over just laughed at the guards "You think we're frightened by those spears?" he asked mockingly while his companion was trying to get back up in a sitting position again. "They won't do much good against Ghidorah once we have him under our control." At the mention of Ghidorah's name, the guards quivered with fear at the mere mention of the name, backing up in fright, but still keeping their spears pointed at the prisoners. Even the woman tending the third Klingon shivered in fright as she accidently kicked the bucket containing the water, making it spill over.
Seeing the Iwi react like this, the two tied up Klingons laughed once more before turning back to Kirk and the others. "You see how frightened these primitives are?" the bearded one asked "Once we have the beast under our control, think of what the Empire could accomplish."
"They are right to be scared." Came a voice from behind them. Turning around, Kirk and company saw Spock, back in his blue Starfleet uniform, along with an Iwi warrior who no doubt guided him to the prison. Spock looked directly at the Klingons as he said, "You have no idea what Ghidorah is truly capable of." he said in voice filled with sternness and a slight hint of fear, much to his comrade's surprise.
Spock walked right up to them and looked directly at the two Klingons, making them stiffen a bit at the intensity of the stare he was giving them. "When I mind melded with Mothra, I saw her memories, I saw what Ghidorah can do should he be released. He is a creature capable of untold destruction. He has no pity, no compassion or remorse. His only interest is asserting his dominance over every living being on this planet and everywhere else. He cannot be reasoned with, and he takes orders from no one. If you think you can control him, then you are fools. You are playing with a fire you cannot hope to control. One that will spread and burn everything it comes across."
Everyone present was shocked at the intensity with which Spock spoke. Spock normally only spoke in steady dry tone. Hearing him speak with such passion and emotion was a bit unnerving to hear, especially with what he said about Ghidorah. Heck, him showing emotion at all was something he rarely ever did and even then, it was under extremely tense or unusual situations. Kirk could still remember how Spock acted during his Pon Farr.
Even the Klingons looked frightened by his speech, though the bearded one still tried to cover it up. "S-so wh-what," he stammered a bit "Our scientists have found a way of controlling the beast. Once the device has been perfected, we will—"
"What device?" Kirk interrupted. The bearded Klingon seemed to realize what he was about to say and quickly averted his eyes, muttering, "Nothing."
Everyone in attendance didn't believe him for a second and even his clean-shaven companion gave him a hard glare.
"What. Device?" Kirk repeated, punctuating his words for emphasis. The bearded one refused to meet his eyes and seemed to stare down at the floor.
"He's talking about the ORCA." responded the third Klingon who had been silent up until this point. He tried to get back up into a sitting position and the woman tending him helped him too just that. Now that he was sitting up, they were able to see more of his features. He had the same sturdy build a lot of Klingons had and like one of his two companions, had a short, stubble beard. what differentiated him however, was that the top of his head was completely bald, having only hair along the sides. If Kirk recalled correctly, that kind of hairstyle was called
"Konom, what are you doing!" the clean-shaven Klingons threat-whispered harshly towards the now named Konom, who only spared him a quick glance before turning back towards the Enterprise crew, who directed their full attention towards him.
"Captain Koloth has had his scientists study the creatures—"
"Kaiju." Spock interrupted. Konom paused before continuing.
"Study the Kaiju on this planet for several months now and they've found a way to control some of the smaller ones with a device he calls the ORCA. I don't understand all of it, but I do know that it seems to use some kind of ultrasonic frequency to compel the Kaiju to follow his commands."
"And he's going to use it to control Ghidorah?" Kirk clarified.
"That's what he believes anyway." Konom shrugged. "Though personally, I don't think it will work.
"And you would be right." Spock agreed. "Ghidorah is far more powerful than the common Kaiju on this planet. Koloth will not be able to control him."
"How can you be so sure?" The clean-shaven Klingon asked Spock. "We Klingons may not be the Galaxy's greatest scientists, but we can still create advancements in our society."
One of the Iwi Guards scoffed and said, "If your 'advancements' can really control Ghidorah, then I pray for your salvation. Ghidorah is far too prideful to let himself be controlled by the likes of you."
The clean-shaven Klingon gave a short laugh at this response. "They are mere beasts! Any intelligent species can control a wild animal with enough persuasion."
"But Ghidorah is not a mindless beast." Kirk responded as he stalked back over to the two as he leaned over to look them directly in the eyes. "We've seen how intelligent Mothra is already. And if Ghidorah is just as intelligent, then you can be sure he won't like being controlled anymore then I would. No intelligent being likes being under someone else's control. There have been several instances all across the galaxy from multiple civilizations of slaves revolting against their masters. Even if you can control him at first, how long can you really keep him under your control? And when you can't control him anymore, how will you deal with him?"
The two tied up Klingons became silent, as if trying to come up with some response. Konom, meanwhile, looked down at his lap and really started thinking about what Kirk was saying. If Ghidorah was as powerful as they said, then he'd been indirectly helping to awaken a force of destruction that could potently lay waste to not just the Federation but any and all civilizations in the galaxy. As the thought entered his head, all the feelings of resentment that he'd tried to push away bubbled to the surface.
Seeing as they weren't talking, Kirk said, "That's what I thought." before bending back up into a straight posture.
McCoy turned a questioning eye towards Konom and asked, "Why are you telling us this? What do you have to gain by it?"
Konom looked up from his lap and turned his gaze on everyone from the Enterprise crew to the Iwi present and started to explain. "Because, I'm tired of serving under Koloth. I'm tired of serving in the empire."
"Why is that?" Sulu asked in confusion. A Klingon who didn't like to serve the Empire? That was basically unheard of.
"Because I can't take stand the empire!" Konom suddenly shouted, shocking everyone listening. "I hate the empire! I hate myself for having to help its conquest of other civilizations!" At this point, Konom had started crying as he released his emotions. Kirk and the others found themselves shocked at the sight before them. To see an actual Klingon cry was a sight almost to absurd to believe. And yet, they were seeing it right in front of them. Konom's companions gave him a condescending look for daring to cry in the presence of the enemy.
Kirk didn't know how to process all this. While the sensible part of him said that Konom was putting on an act, the compassionate side of him said that Konom was being honest. Almost all the Klingons they had met in the past had always had an air of smug superiority to them. Konom, however, didn't give off that feeling when he was speaking to them earlier. Not to mention, Kirk sincerely doubted that any Klingon would openly weep in front of their enemies, even if they were putting on an act.
"I try to put on a brave face." Konom kept explaining through his crying. "I try to do what is expected of me. But it just never felt right to me. And I have disobeyed a few orders over the years because of it. And now, I seem to have made the biggest mistake in the history of the galaxy." he dried his tears with his good arm as he gave a sad and defeated look towards Kirk. "But I want to help correct it. I can help you get into our base and rescue the Shobijin. We can make sure Ghidorah remains entombed."
McCoy walked up to Kirk and pulled him aside. "Jim, how can we be sure he's really willing to help us?" he whispered into Kirk's ear. "For all we know he could be leading us into a trap. I admit seeing a Klingon cry is unusual but—"
"I believe him." Kirk stated with complete sincerity. "No Klingon I know of would shed tears in front of a Starfleet officer. He must be telling the truth. And even if he's leading us into a trap, which I doubt, we must get in there and rescue the Shobijin."
"The captain is right." Spock agreed, having joined in their silent conversation. "We have already set our strategy in motion. Mothra is on her way to enlist Godzilla's aid in distracting the Klingons so that we can sneak in and rescue the Shobijin. We must move quickly if we are to proceed on schedule."
McCoy grumbled an acknowledgement, knowing they were right. Still, that didn't mean he was going to unconditionally trust a Klingon.
Seeing his expression of uncertainty, Kirk said, "How about this. We take him along with us in the Shuttlecraft but keep him tied up and under guard, just to be on the safe side."
"But how what do we do once we reach the base?" McCoy asked, knowing they couldn't exactly walk around with a tied-up and injured Klingon in their own base.
"One of us will stay behind in the shuttlecraft and keep an eye on him, just to be sure." Kirk answered. He adopted an unsure expression. "Like I said, I'm making this up as I go along."
"Then I hope you're 'on the spot planning' serves us well." Spock said as he started to turn around towards Konom. "We have come to a decision." He informed the injured Klingon, who turned his attention towards Spock. "We will except your assistance, but you will remain under strict supervision, so we can be sure that you are being honest."
Konom sighed and said, "That's understandable." He knew better then to think that they openly trust him right of the bat so this was not unexpected.
"We're running on short time here, gentlemen." Kirk addressed everyone in the room. "My crew and Konom will head back to the Shuttlecraft and we will depart to the north regions of the planet. Once we get there, hopefully Konom will be able to get us inside where we can both rescue the Shobijin and destroy Koloth's operation, thereby preventing them from unleashing Ghidorah. Any questions?"
"I have one." said the bearded Klingon as he turned a hatful glare towards Konom. "I hope you realize that by doing this you will become a traitor to the empire. Once all this is over, what will you do? Do you really think Starfleet will grant protection to a Klingon?"
Konom looked uncertain for a second before steeling his resolve. "My first concern is stopping Ghidorah. I'll worry about what to do after once I have accomplished that."
The bearded Klingon scoffed in response, but Kirk didn't have time deal with these things right now.
Mothra had been flying about for an hour now, searching for her king. The twilight was casting a beautiful sunset over the environment, creating a beautiful picture which Mothra could only give a passing glance as she searched for Godzilla. Though it also served as a reminder for her the destruction Ghidorah could cause if he was released. Their last battle with him was very difficult and left the environment so ravaged that it took about a million years for the planet to fully heal.
All that destruction, all the life's who perished because of Ghidorah. Mothra was saddened as she remembered some of her fellow Kaiju who died in the struggle against him. Baragon, Varan, even Angurius met his end in that battle. Angurius and Godzilla were especially close and even after all this time, her king missed his dear friend deeply. Their sacrifice allowed Godzilla to trap Ghidorah in the ice, which she hoped would've been forever.
Mothra steeled her resolve as she thought about those who had fallen. This time will be different. If those humans, those strangers from beyond the stars can help rescue the Shobijin, then she and her king can put down Ghidorah once and for all. The first battle with Ghidorah had weakened both her and Godzilla to such an extent that it took them several years to fully recover. And even when they had fully recovered, Godzilla didn't wish to see her or any of his other friends killed in trying to take Ghidorah down once and for all. But now, it seemed like they didn't have much of a choice. If these Klingons released him, it would spell disaster for everyone involved. Even if she had to lay down her life, she would ensure that Ghidorah met his end.
Finally, she sensed Godzilla's presence and flew off in his direction.
And that's a wrap. So, here's the deal: i was originally going to include the lyrics to Mothra's theme song, but the i started reading a thread on Reddit about using song lyrics in Fanfiction and how it's not worth the risk, so i ended up describing the song instead. I didn't want to take any chances you know, so i simply left the name of the song in parenthesis, that should be good right? Also, i couldn't find a site that described what instrument were used in Mothra's song so maybe some of you guys can help me out on that front. I mean i heard just from listening to the song that drums were used but i'm not a musical expert, so i wasn't sure what other instrument were used.
Also, yes, Mothra's design here is based on her appearance in the Monsterverse. Just wanted to clarify that.
And we have our introduction to Konom. For those of you who don't know, he was a character from DC Comics Star Trek TOS comic (volume 1) from 1984. I wanted to have a Klingon who would help the enterprise crew get into the base and i didn't just want to make up an OC just for that purpose so i brought him in. Just so you know, that wasn't planned from the start. I guess that's what happens when you publish a new chapter annually.
Speaking of witch, i feel i should tell you guys something. I originally started this fic so because i wanted to write something else after finishing "The Wolverine who became a Father", and i was a really big fan of Godzilla and Star Trek at the time so i thought, "why not do a crossover that hasn't been done yet?" But you see, eventually i started writing my new X-Men: Evolution and that became the one i started to focus on. I do still update this fic from time to time, but it's not exactly my primary focus. but since i am a completionist kind of guy, i refuse to simply abandon this fic. just don't expect it to get updated as quickly as my X-men: Evolution fanfic. and even then, i haven't felt as motivated to write as i did a few years ago.
Still, i'm gonna keep going. I don't know if what i write would qualify as good, but writing is a passion i want to keep pursuing, so that's what i'm going to do. Anyway, enough about my personal struggles. Until next time guys!
