Chapter 3
Max Caufield x Mark Jefferson
AN: "" means talking, '' means texting, italics means thinking.
Max managed to get back to the campus just in time for her first class of the day. Luckily, she didn't have another run in with Victoria or Nathan. Miss Hoida was just entering the classroom as Max sat down at her desk.
"It's good to see that Miss Hoida is back teaching again." Max thought. "Had I had more interest in it I might have pursued a degree in English." Max continued thinking.
Before Max realised it, it was time for the last class for the day. As she was walking towards Mr. Jeffersons classroom, Max bumped into Victoria who was holding a cup of coffee.
"Watch where you are going selfie-hoe." Victoria said as she spilled the content all over the front of Max's clothes. "Ugh, great, now look at the mess you created." Victoria continued before walking into the classroom leaving Max trying to wipe as much of the coffee away before it stained her jumper.
"Great, just what I needed today." Max mumbled to herself.
Turning around Max walked straight into Mr. Jefferson.
"Woah, are you alright Max?" Mr. Jefferson asked. Looking down he noticed her jumper. "You better go get that cleaned up right away before it stains. I'll wait for you by the door." Mr. Jefferson said as he went to stand by the door.
Not needing to be told twice, Max hurried to the closest bathroom and quickly wet a paper towel and wiped as much off as she could. Hopefully it won't stain too badly. As Mr. Jefferson had said, he had been waiting for her return by the classroom door.
"Go take your seat." Mr. Jefferson said as Max walked past him into the classroom. "Right class. As you know the voting for the best photograph for this contest is now closed. And as of now there is a selected team counting all the votes." Mr. Jefferson said as he put his laptop on top of his desk. "And the winner will, as you all know, get to have their photograph exhibited in Portland. Now let's see who's here and who isn't." Mr. Jefferson said as he went through the list of students.
"Kate Marsh." Mr. Jefferson said and when he didn't get an answer he looked around. "Has anyone seen miss Marsh today?" he asked.
"I saw her this morning." Max piped up. "She's not feeling to well and asked me to tell if anyone asked." Max continued.
"Thank you miss Caufield." Mr. Jefferson said as he finished the roll call. "Now as you are all aware, there isn't much time left of this semester. Some of you are already busy applying for university or college while some of you are still indecisive of what to do after high school is over. And some of you might already have received news whether you have been accepted or not." Mr. Jefferson said as he started to walk around the room like he always does. "So, what I thought could be a great final project for you guys would be for you all to arrange your own portfolio. Because, without a portfolio, you won't really get that far within the photographic industry." Mr. Jefferson said as he looked around and stopped to look at Max as if saying that she needed to get a move on and start making hers. "Now, I know that some of you have been working on your portfolios for a while." Mr. Jefferson said referring to Victoria and Evan. "And some of you haven't started yet, so for those that still needs help in getting started I'll arrange a meeting one-on-one where we will go over the photographs you have taken so far for class and see if there is anything there that can be put into your portfolio. Any questions?" Mr. Jefferson said.
"When will the winner of the contest be announced?" Victoria asked with an overly sweet voice.
"I will announce the winner during the party tomorrow." Mr. Jefferson said. "Now let us continue with class." Mr. Jefferson continued as he started to go over the subject for today.
As the bell rang signalling the end the school day, Max took her time collecting all her belongings before heading for the door. She looked over to Mr. Jefferson and saw that Victoria had grabbed his attention like she does after every class. Just before Max could exit, she heard Mr. Jefferson tell Victoria off.
"Miss Chase, this has got to stop. Just because I spent some time with you in San Fransisco doesn't mean that you can hog all my time I have after class. There are other students who could use my guidance." Mr. Jefferson said.
"Like whom? Max Caufield or Kate Marsh?" Victoria shot back. "They don't have what it takes to survive within the world of photography." Victoria continued not realising that Max was still within the room. "We on the other hand Mark could be quite the force together." Victoria said laying her hand over his making Max want to vomit.
"That's enough of that miss Chase and stick with Mr. Jefferson." Mr. Jefferson said as he withdrew his hand and looked over to where Max was still standing. "Now if you'll excuse me, I believe that miss Caufield is in need of my attention regarding her portfolio." Mr. Jefferson said as he walks over to the desk and picked his laptop up before showing both Victoria and Max out of the classroom.
"Selfie-hoe." Victoria said as she passed Max, not loud enough for Mr. Jefferson to hear but loud enough for Max to hear the insult.
"Does she never get tired?" Max said out loud to herself having forgotten that Mr. Jefferson was still standing next to her.
"What was that, Max?" Mr. Jefferson asked as he put his hand on Max shoulder to guide her towards his office.
"Oh, nothing Mr. Jefferson." Max said. "I didn't realise that you were still here. Have a good evening, sir." Max said as she tried to get back to her dorm.
"Not so fast Max." Mr. Jefferson said taking a firm hold of Max shoulder. "I mean what I said. You and I are going to have a one-on-one meeting regarding your portfolio. Right now. No excuses." Mr. Jefferson said as he led Max to his office.
