Drugs, sex and a… baby.

Chapter 6

Max Caufield x Mark Jefferson

AN: Slightly longer chapter. The characters (aside my OC) belong to Don't Nod and Square Enix. "" means talking, '' means texting, italics means thinking. I'll start posting two chapters a week from now on since I'm almost done with the stories. As of now I have a total of 31 chapters, and I'll see how many it will be once the story is finished.

The next morning Max woke feeling a lot more refreshed compared to how she felt the day before.

"It's probably because it's Friday and I can spend the next two days without having to deal with everything going on." Max thought as she got up and grabbed her toiletries and a change of clothing before heading for the showers.

When she entered the shower area, Max noticed that there was no one else in there yet. Knowing which shower to always avoid Max entered the shower which gave the hottest water in the mornings. As she was busy putting conditioner in her hair, the door to the shower area opened, and Max could hear the voices of Victoria and Taylor.

"I can't believe that you guys took so long yesterday." Victoria said. "How hard could it be to grab me a new set of clothes?" she continued.

"It's not like we meant to take that long…" Taylor said but got interrupted by Victoria.

"Whatever, save that for someone who might actually care." Victoria said before walking out with Taylor hurrying after her.

"What was that about?" Max thought before rinsing the conditioner out of her hair.

Feeling fresh and like a new person, Max left the shower room after having dressed and brushed her teeth. As she was walking back to her own room Victoria left hers. Briefly looking at Max before just walking by.

"Wowser, no insult? The world must have gone crazy." Max thought as she opened her room, only to be met with a mess. Looking over to her photo wall, Max saw that someone had sprayed a very nasty message.

Don't Fuck With Me.

"Great, just what I need today." Max thought as she started to clean up most of the mess. Even Lisa had to endure some of the mess made. "Hopefully she'll survive being pushed over." Max thought as she tried to scoop up as much soil as she could. As she put the last thing back in its order Max looked at her clock and noticed that she only had ten minutes until the first lesson.

"Shit! Now I have to run. So much for a chill Friday." Max said to herself as she left her room and made sure to lock it this time. Luckily Max made it just in time for her English class with miss Hoida.

Most of the day, Max felt on edge. Partly due to what she walked back into as she entered her room and partly because she didn't know how Victoria reacted yesterday after she yelled at her.

"I will most likely see for myself during this afternoon photography class." Max thought as she headed out for some much-needed air.

As she walked outside the main entrance, Max saw some members of the schools' football team passing a football around themselves. Looking around she also saw that it looked like Daniel had managed to talk one of the girls attending the school into modelling for him. As Max looked ahead, she saw a flock of birds hopping around near the fountain depicting the founder of the academy. Thinking it would be a great photograph, Max took out her polaroid camera and was just about to take the photograph when she felt something hit her, making her fall and drop her camera.

"Watch where you are going loser." Nathan said as he made his way into the school.

"Great, just great." Max muttered to herself as she got up and looked around for her camera. "Are you shitting me!" Max said as she found her camera smashed on the ground. "How am I supposed to keep taking photographs now?" she asked herself. While she was busy picking up the pieces of what once was her camera, Max didn't see that one of the footballers had kicked the ball too hard and it hit Max right on the head, causing her to drop her camera again.

"Ouch!" Max yelled as a searing pain shot through her head.

As Max was once again gaining her hearing, she heard that someone had run up to her.

"Oh shit. Hey, are you alright?" the person said.

When Max looked up, she saw that it was Logan, Danas ex-boyfriend, who had come to check on her. "Here let me help you up." Logan said as he gave Max a hand and when he was sure that she could stand on her own, he bent down and collected all the pieces of what used to be Max camera. "Again, I'm really sorry. Do you need help getting yourself to the school nurse?" Logan said as he looked Max over for any obvious injuries.

"N-no, I'm alright. Thank you, um, Logan, right?" Max said as she put what used to be her camera back into her bag.

"You sure? You don't look too good." Logan said with worry.

"Yes, I'm sure." Max said again.

"I'm sorry for your camera. I'll make sure to pay for the repairs." Logan said thinking he was at fault for the camera breaking. "I know how much photography students are in need of their equipment." He continued.

"No, it's alright. Someone bumped into me and that's what caused my camera to break." Max said as she turned around and headed back inside the school again.

As Max was passing the lockers and science classroom, she felt the same pain again in her head. After steadying herself against the lockers for a few minutes she felt it go away again. Luckily the photography class was the last class for today, and as she was just about to enter the classroom, Max got a sudden vertigo making her try to grab hold of the closest thing.

"No way! No fucking way." Max heard someone say as she was clutching her head with one hand. "Max you're so going to pay for that." Max heard, realising that it was Victoria. As she got her bearing back again, Max saw that she had accidentally hit a cup of coffee out of Victorias hands. "That cup was for Mr. Jefferson. Do you always have to be so clumsy?" Victoria said in rage as she pushed Max aside to enter the classroom.

"Is everything alright? I heard shouting." Mr. Jefferson said looking at Max and then at Victoria as they entered the classroom at the same time.

"Yes, everything is alright." Victoria said as she walked over to her seat.

"That's good." Mr. Jefferson said as he motioned for Max to also take her seat. "Well then, lets begins today's class." Mr. Jefferson said as he got up and placed himself at the centre of the classroom. "I was thinking, since we have had several lessons where I'm just talking about different techniques that we use as photographers, I think we should take advantage of the good weather today and move outdoors where you are to test what you have learned so far with your own cameras." Mr. Jefferson said as he walked back to his desk. "And maybe you guys could swap around and try using each other cameras, obviously you have to be careful when using your classmate's equipment." He continued while looking at Max as if saying 'maybe this will get you into using digital cameras as well'. "So, without further ado, let's head outside." Mr. Jefferson said as he went to the door waiting for his class to move outside.

All at once, the students rose from their seats, except Max. When the last student had left Mr. Jefferson looked around and saw that Max was still sitting at her desk with her head in her hands. Closing the door, he walked over to her desk.

"Max? Is everything alright?" Mr. Jefferson asked crouching down to be more eye level with Max.

"No." Max said leaning back in the chair. "There was an accident during break and" Max started as she once more felt a wave of pain and vertigo hit her. Once it passed Max saw that Mr. Jefferson saw looking at her with worry. "My camera kind of broke." Max said as she showed him her once functioning polaroid.

"I'm so sorry Max." Mr. Jefferson said as he stood up. "Do you know how it broke?" he asked.

"I had just got outside when someone bumped into me, making me fall and drop my camera." Max said.

"Do you know who it was?" Mr. Jefferson asked as he got up.

"No whoever it was walked away before I could have a look." Max lied since she knew that it was pointless to say who it was that had bumped into her.

"I'll let you borrow a camera for today, unfortunately there are only digital cameras at hand." He said as he handed Max a camera for her to use today. "Do you think your camera can be fixed?" he said as he locked the classroom door behind them.

"I don't know. I hope it can be, but that'll probably be very expensive, and my parents have been bugging me to go digital for ages anyway." Mas said as she put the digital camera into her bag. "This is probably life saying that it agrees with my parents." She continued as she started to walk ahead of Mr. Jefferson.

As they got close the science classroom Max felt another wave of vertigo hit her, and this time she didn't manage to grab hold of something to steady her.

"Max, why don't you sit this lesson out?" Mr. Jefferson said as he helped her up. "I'll take you to the nurses office." He continued as he lifted Max up bridal style since she almost fell again.

"Mr. Jefferson, I can walk on my own." Max protested as they passed the science classroom, feeling pain in her head again as she saw that Warren looked over as they passed the open door.

"Clearly you can't since you keep falling over." Mr. Jefferson said ignoring Max as he continued to the nurses office.
