Chapter 5: Life on Magix
Authors note: This is an original episode idea I wanted to make to expand upon the twins' relationship with their fellow roommates, friends from Red Fountain, enemies from Cloud Tower, fellow Winx members, and school teachers, and their time getting used to the various events and details of the Magix Alliance. I'll try to keep this as close to canon as possible.
WARNING: THERE WILL BE MENTIONS OF PTSD AND PUBERTY IN THIS CHAPTER!
Saturday morning. It's a time to relax from classes and spend some time with friends, work on homework or projects, or just sleep in. But for a certain pair of twins in their shared room, their alarm starts to go off in a tune that their parents seem to love: Mr. Blue Sky by the Electric Orchestra. Mabel fusses around in the bed as Dipper manages to snooze on the button. Mabel moans for a bit, moaning, "Morning already?" She then saw the calendar and saw that today was Saturday, which meant they didn't have classes. She then slowly gets up and then yawns happily. "Finally, a break from those classes. No potions, no transformation spells gone wrong, no awful field trips to the swamp and no Griselda saying my sweaters look awful" She then jumps out of bed, grabs a sweater, an undershirt, and other clothing, and rushes into the bathroom, humming happily. As she was in there, she then slid out of the bathroom, a little scared at what happened, and went into Layla and Flora's room. Flora was still sleeping in her bed, but Mabel went up and gently poked her cheek. Flora writes in bed as Mabel keeps poking her cheek. "Flora?" Mabel whispers. "Wake up. It's an emergency."
"Mabel?" Flora said, still tired in bed with her eyes closed, moaned, "It's barely light out. Can this wait until I wake up?"
"I don't think it can," Mabel told her honestly, her voice a little louder, but still quiet enough to keep everyone else sleeping. "Can fairies have...you know...that time of the month?"
Suddenly, Flora's eyes widen with shock as she gets up quickly and sees her. "Even know you're a fairy now Mabel, you're just going through the beauty of nature." She assured her with a smile. "All women go through it, no matter what class or race you are." Mabel nods, not sure what to think of it. "It's OK. We'll go out into town later and see if we can get some pads for you. My treat," Flora offered to Mabel.
"Thank you," Mabel said, hugging Flora in response. "Also, can you get out for a second while I freshen up? You sort of barged in here when I was getting dressed and well...the blood." Flora nods and Mabel walks out of the room and back into the bathroom, going to get dressed. Flora then gets ready, not waking up Layla, and leaves her room and sees Dipper, who is still half asleep and in his night clothes, in the hallway and yawns. He then goes up to Flora, who is now out of her floral-themed bed and brushing her hair, worried about his sister's health.
"Hey, is Mabel ok?" Dipper asked, half yawning.
"It's ok, Dipper," Flora assured him. "Your sister's on her period at the moment. It's perfectly natural for a woman her age to go through, even as a fairy."
"Oh, it's just her time of the month," Dipper said, sighing in relief. "Let's just hope she's not too moody as a fairy. You know as much as I do that her powers heavily rely on her emotion. If she gets too angry, then there will be hell to pay."
Two Hours later, Flora took Mabel out into town for some products to help her out, leaving Dipper alone, working on mastering his new magic powers. He was currently in his fairy form and tried throwing a few punches at a makeshift dummy out of couch cushions, pillows, and a picture of Bill Cipher's face on it.
"You better be glad I didn't have this when I faced you, Bill," Dipper said out loud, feeling confident. "If I did, I would have sent you to see whatever god you believed in myself." As he was talking about how he could master his fairy form, Tecna walked into the living room of the dorm and saw him being confident.
"Dipping Sauce, have you seen my screwdriver set?" Tecna asks him. "I need it for a project of mine."
He turned around and saw her, sort of happy she came. "Tecna," he said, exited, "Just in time. I was thinking about mastering my fairy form and making sure that nobody would be able to threaten me, my family, or anyone I care about ever again."
Tecna giggles a bit, unsure what to make of the situation, and goes to his level, saying "It is good to see what you become, is it not?"
"Yeah, I'll say," Dipper said as he turned around and pointed at the face of the makeshift dummy. "Especially when it comes to defeating beings like him."
"Is that Bill Cipher?" Tecna asked of him.
"Yeup. Honestly glad he's dead," Dipper said as he threw another punch at the head and knocked it off, his fists ignited with fire. "AM I ON FIRE?!"
"Incredible," Tecna said as he grabbed his hand gently. "It's not burning me, yet it appears to be very hot. Almost like Mabel's fire or Bloom's fire."
"Mabel and I both having fire don't exactly surprise us since we're twins," Dipper elaborated. "But Bloom? Maybe it's because the three of us are from Earth?"
"That does sound like a possibility," Tecna noted. "Either way, you have done well for being someone who had no magic before just weeks ago. Fairy of Fire."
"Just Dipper, please," Dipper said to Tecna. "None of the fancy titles fit me."
"Sounds good... Dipping Sauce," Tecna teased him.
"Is it a spoof on my name, or are you hungry again?" Dipper asked her.
"Can't a woman like myself do both?" Tecna said as she looked down. "Besides, you worry too much and you work a lot. Just relax today, please?"
"Alright, I'll try..." Dipper sighed. "But I really am getting used to this form. It makes me feel really powerful."
"It's fun to gain these powers," Tecna said as she sat him down. "But even fires need time to refuel. Can't let this ember sizzle out, can we?"
"Yeah, I guess you're right," Dipper said as he turned back to normal. "You know I sort of got the ideas for the outfit from you and Musa."
"At least you have good taste," Musa said as she walked in with one of her guitars. "Cool if I sit with you two?"
"Why sure," Tecna said as she waved for her to come over. "We were just talking about Dipper's self-training."
"I don't blame him," Musa says as she sits on the other side of Dipper. "He just got his powers weeks ago and just wants to catch up to the rest of us."
"Can you blame me? I'm a teenage boy from Earth who just loves the supernatural and mysteries," Dipper elaborated. "I wanna test these powers to the best that I can." Tecna and Musa can't really fault him at this point. To both of them, being a fairy was a right of passage for any magical being. The freedom of flight, the magic that flows, and the adventures you can have are something any magical person can dream of. But for an Earthling, that's nothing more than a fantasy. Something you see when you're watching a Saturday morning cartoon. When you give the powers of a fairy to a person like Dipper, you basically create a new world for him. At that moment, Tecna then brings both Musa and Dipper into a hug.
"You are gonna be the best," Tecna said to him.
"And don't think for a damn minute that you're going to do it alone," Musa added. "The rest of the Club's coming along for the ride."
Dipper then hugs the both of them. "Thanks, girls," Dipper tells them.
"But I have been meaning to ask," Musa then remembers. "Are you friends with a Marinette Dupain-Cheng?"
Dipper's eyes widen in happiness and smiles. "Of course. She's one of the online friends I made over the past year. I haven't been able to contact her since coming here. I hope she's ok."
"Wait, Musa, why do you care if Dipping Sauce knows a girl from his home world?" Tecna asked Musa, which Dipper does take notice of. Musa sees the both of them are staring at her and then just signs in defeat.
"Marinette's my younger cousin from my mother's side," Musa admitted "She means the world to me, but she can't ever find out about the fact she's half-Melodian."
"What?" Dipper said, shocked at this new revelation. "Why not?"
"It's because she was born with the potential to become a fairy and magic deep within her. If she ever knew she could transform into a fairy, she would have her whole world taken from her and placed here." Musa said, being defensive. "Promise me you won't tell her about this, ok?"
"I promise not to tell her, but you need to tell her one day," Dipper said to her. "It means a lot if you just rip off the bandaid and face the music. Kind of like me asking Wendy on a date after all the horrors of the summer."
"Or going out with Timmy when I did not know him at all," Tecna added. "But he is right. You need to tell her the truth."
"Ugh, fine... after all that Hawkmoth bullshit is dealt with back in Paris," Musa agreed.
"You mean Papillon, right?" Dipper interjected.
In the shopping district of Magix City, Flora, Stella, and Mabel were all out having fun. "You know it's really fun to get out of school for a bit, even if it's on the weekend," Mabel said to her friends.
"You said it, Mabel," Stella said, happy to be with her friends. "Just you, me, and Flora, just having a good old time, just us Winx girls." She says, pulling them close into a side hug as they all giggle. "Now, what's next on the list?"
"We do need to stop by the food market and grab some fruits and vegetables before Tecna finds out we have them," Flora said, checking her list from her phone.
"Why," Mabel asked, "Because she'll eat them all? Because you know she will with her appetite and her state buds."
As she says this, both Stella laughs out loud and Flora chuckles as Stella responds "It's because Zenithans can't stomach organic food."
"It's not poisonous to them," Flora added, "But it just keeps them in the bathroom for a long time."
"And not in a good way," Stella added to the conversation. "It gives them bad indigestion."
"When is there ever a good reason to stay in the bathroom for a long time?" Flora asked Stella.
"Um, hello, Flora," Stella wispered her, "The new Fall issue of Red Fountain Quarterly just came out and you know their sweaty muscles show through their uniform." Flora knows exactly what she's talking about. She responded by just face palms and Mabel just giggles at that.
"I think I understand that, Stella," Mabel said, "But make sure you get two magazines, just in case you get one of them wet. HEYO!" Flora was in tears from laughing at her joke and Stella's face was red in embarrassment and a little insulted, but then smirked.
"Well played, Mabel," Stella proudly said. They then kept walking as Flora kept reading the list.
"We also need some more spell books for the twins and Bloom," Flora added.
"Why need books when they can learn from all of us?" Stella said proudly. "Me, You, Musa, Tecna, and Layla."
"That is a great idea, Stella," Flora complimented her on her idea. "We can teach them all we know about magic to catch them up on their lessons. It'll be great."
"Of course. All my ideas are great ideas," Stella told them as Mabel agreed with her. "But I can't help but feel we're forgetting something."
"Or someone," Mabel said. "Has anyone seen or heard from Bloom and Layla today?"
Outback at Alfea, both Bloom and Layla were in a field together. Layla had her Trident out and Bloom had a Phantoblade longsword as they were both sparring. Bloom had asked Layla to train her because of her mindset that she was useless during the swamp lesson. Layla agreed to help her because Bloom was a dear friend to her, and what better way to do so than for Bloom to live out one of her fantasies of wielding a sword like her tabletop campaigns? After some silence, both of them come at each other as Bloom starts striking Layla, but she deflects it with her Trident, showing her proficiency with her weapon of choice. She then gets on the offensive and starts thrusting her weapon at Bloom, in which she tries defending herself with her sword. But she fears that won't be enough, so she creates a barrier of magic around herself.
"FLAME WALL!" Bloom cast as a transparent red shield enveloped her. Layla's trident bounced off of her as she sighed.
"Bloom you can't rely on magic for everything," Layla told her. "Isint this what this lesson was for?"
"Sorry, sorry," Bloom apologized. "Force of habit."
Layla then walked up to Bloom and smiled at her. "You are getting better with the sword, though," Layla complimented her. "We should see about getting you one that's not from Red Fountain."
"Oh, this thing?" Bloom said as she turned it off. "Sure, lightsabers are cool, but having an actual sword on me would be cooler."
"Plus once you master it, you can blend magic with your weapon of choice," Layla said as she used her magic to coat her trident with water and add some pink water-like substance over her body to be used as armor. "See? Pretty cool, am I right?"
"Whoa, that is cool!" Bloom exclaimed. "And you even used that pink stuff you created over your body."
"It's just a simple Morphix armor. It's not that big of a deal," Layla tried passing off.
"Not that big of a deal? Layla, you created a new type of fluid out of an accident," Bloom said to her friend. "Thats a very very big deal to me. You're a magical master!"
Layla smiles at her compliments. It was easy to get her flustered, but Bloom had no idea what it meant to be a magical master. But she had the right idea that if she can apply her skills to the best of her ability, then she can truly be a master.
Back at Magix City, Brandon's squad, now in street clothes, is hanging out with one another. They had some time off from active duty, so they wanted to take advantage of the downtime as much as they could. Wendy is wearing her usual flannel shirt, jeans, and boots, along with her Pinetree hat. Sky was wearing a white dress shirt with a red ascot on it, topped with a green sweater vest, green pants, and brown dress shoes. Timmy was wearing a green shirt with a white undershirt, blue jeans, and white sneakers, all of which mostly hid his cybernetics other than his exposed robot left hand. Riven was wearing a sleeveless white shirt with maroon pants and sneakers. Helia was wearing a light green shirt with khaki pants and white and orange sneakers. Brandon was wearing a blue and cyan shirt, blue jeans, and blue sneakers, all of which seemed to match.
"Thank the dragon none of us have anything to do today," Riven noted.
"It was nice for Headmaster Saladin to give us a day off from duties," Timmy added.
"No workouts, no lessons about monster hunting, no drills and being scared into doing them, nothing of the sort," Wendy listed off as she was relieved of all of this. "So what are we doing today?"
"Well i was thinking of going to one of my favorite places to go to for lunch," Brandon offered as the rest of them seemed to be on board.
"Ah thank goodness," Helia said, excited about it. "I told grandfather about this, but the food prepared at school just absolutely is not safe for anyone to eat."
"Ugh, don't remind me of that grey slop we have to eat," Wendy said, remembering its awful flavor and repugnant smell.
"It's supposed to be nutritious," Timmy tried defending it.
"It's actual garbage, man," Wendy pointed out. "We need actual food. We're supposed to be some of the best fighters in the galaxy or whatever, and they can't even afford to give us actual food?"
"Which is why I'm treating you all to some good food while we throw some axes," Brandon said as they arrived at their destination.
"Oh yeah, this place!" Sky remembered it. "Brandon and I had this place before we moved into Red Fountain."
"I didn't know you guys had axe-throwing places here on Magix as well," Wendy said as her eyes lit up. "I always wanted to try one of these places out."
"Of course, the barbarian is excited to throw axes," Riven huffed.
"Scared you think I'll beet you again?" Wendy asked, instigating Riven.
"Oh, it is ON!" Riven accepted the challenge as they all went inside and got themselves a landed and a table. They soon got themselves drinks and started throwing the axes at the target. Sky, Brandon, and Helis aren't doing so well, but Wendy, Riven, and Timmy are all doing pretty well.
"huh, this isn't so bad," Timmy said as he got the hang of it. Riven was watching in disbelief while Wendy just whistled at him.
"Look at that, man. You're doing great!" Wendy congratulated him. Timmy just chuckles at that and throws another axe and it hits the middle yet again.
"YES! EAT IT, RIVEN!" Timmy said excitingly as Riven got annoyed.
"So, Wendy, if you don't mind me asking, what DO you like about Dipper," Brandon asked Wendy. Wendy had to sit down for a second and think about it for a second.
"Wow, on the spot, ok," Wendy said, trying to process the question. "It's mostly because he sees me as an actual person and just someone to talk to. Not a prize, not arm candy, and not for other things. We work together because we see each other eye to eye."
"Kind of like how Stella and I work," Sky interjected. "We talk, we laugh, we even grow as people, and survive dangerous events together."
"Exactly," Wendy said, sipping her soda. "Especially the time he saved me from one of my ex-boyfriends and his mind control methods."
"Wait, what?!" The other 5 said, surprised.
"It's a long story, not one I want to talk about now," Wendy said. "All I'll say is that Dipper might be one of the best boyfriends I've ever had."
"Fair enough," Brandon said. The Specialists then resumed their game and had fun while it lasted, bonding more as a team. Wendy might be a long way from Tambry and the Earth friends back home, but Brandon and his squad welcomed her as one of their own.
Deep in the hallowed halls of Cloud Tower, was a dorm of 4 witches with untold power. A dorm teaming with an aura of ice, electricity, darkness, and metallic feelings. This was the dorm of the Trix, four of the most powerful witches at Cloud Tower, and equally as messed up. The first of the bunch was working on casting a new charm onto a telescope so she could spy on others without being caught. This is Isabella Everfrost, but she prefers to be called Icy, and she also acts as the leader of the group.
The second of them was reorganizing the books in the main lounge by size, shape, and name using her void powers to rearrange them. This was Darcy Void, the brains behind the coven.
The third was planning an intricate scheme involving a familiar short fairy and her blue-haired crush. She was finding ways to get them to fight among one another and swoop in as a rebound date. This was Stormy Tempest, the wildcard of the bunch.
Finally, their younger appearance was trying to play a videogame on the living room TV while snacking on deep-fried chicken from a local place. This was Pacifica Northwest, a young witch who was basically adopted by the coven after being thrown out, and granted powers of her own so she could survive.
"Ugh, Pacifica, stop with the fried chicken. It's irritating my nose," Darcy said as she tried to block the smell.
"Well sorry, but I won't stop. Ever since my parents disowned me, I finally got to eat whatever I wanted without being scolded by a 5-hour talk about how women only have one body type," Pacifica retorted back at Darcy. "It's not my fault you don't have any taste in food."
"Yeah, taste, not deep fry anything you get your hands on," Darcy said. "You're not Tecna."
"And plus, why are you playing video games like this?" Stormy said. "Witches are supposed to spread chaos and discord, not play video games all day."
"See that guy I'm fighting?" Pacifica said as she pointed at the screen with her greasy fingers. "My opponent has a 68-win streak. And I'm about to ruin their entire day." Pacifica imputed a few combos on her controller and within seconds, defeated her enemy while the words 'PLATINUM PAZ WINS' flashed on the screen. "And just like that, they're probably pissed they can't reach the funny number."
"I still think this whole video game thing is a waste of time," Darcy huffed. "Books are so much better."
"But we could have a rival to Tecna's gaming skills," Stormy said, praising her skills. "And I know an arcade we can go to so you can replace her high scores with yours."
"That would rile up that fat cyborg's gears," Darcy said, snickering.
"What did I say about provoking them without a reason?" Pacifica immediately reminded those two. "I know it's been a few days since the Black Mud Swamp incident and the troll got sent to Gravity Falls, but it's my job to make sure you're not being cruel again."
"Ugh, fine," Darcy said, scoffing. "Party pooper."
"She is right, Darcy," Icy said as she came to them. "Now that we've done an act of mercy and that does help the plan, it's going to take time for us to adjust to our new positive feelings, similar to us helping out Pazzy here when she adjusted to her new witchy life."
"Oh yeah, when we saved her from being bear meat when her homophobic parents threw her out," Stormy remembered. "That was almost 6 weeks ago."
"August 31st of your Callender, if I recall correctly," Darcy made sure she had the info. "It was your best friend Dipper and your crush Mabel's birthday."
"Yea. I got kicked out shortly after they left home," Pacifica remembered. "If you guys hadn't been controlled by your ancestors and tried to steal Bloom's power, I would have died in the woods."
"Honestly glad we found you," Icy said, sitting next to her and hugging her.
"Let me guess because I warmed your heart? Cleared up your mind? Become a light to your darkness?" Pacifica questioned, making good use of her wordplay. The other witches groaned.
"Ugh; that was terrible," Stormy said.
Later that evening, when the Winx Club is back inside the dorm at Alfea, Inside Bloom and Stella's room, Bloom is taking care of her pet rabbit Kiko as he seems to notice his owner sighing. So Bloom and Kiko decided to head into the living room to get some air. In the living room of the dorm, Musa and Tecna were playing a game on the game system Dipper brought over from Earth as Dipper was reading what appeared to be a spell book on another chair, thanks to Mabel, Flora, and Stella. Layla was there as she was prepping dinner in the kitchen area for everyone.
"Dipper? Can I ask you something" Bloom asked him as he put the book down on the chair.
"Yeah, Bloom? What's up?" he responded, curious about what she had to say.
"Do you miss Earth?" Bloom said. As she said that, he seemed to think about it.
"Of course I do," Dipper answered almost immediately. "I miss my mom, my dad, my cat, Mabel's pet pig Waddles, my classmates back in school, I miss the online friend group, the fall California air..." He seemed to tear up as he went along, "And my new friends I made in Gravity Falls, my great uncles, and..." He then wiped his tears off, but they kept coming. "I thought I'd never see them again because of that demon during the weirdmageddon."
"It's ok, man. Bill's gone," Musa said as she paused the game, making sure to let him know it's gonna be ok.
"Yeah. Your great uncle killed him, if I remember correctly," Layla said, remembering the story.
"Bill Cipher was a complete psychopath who wanted to kill me and my sister for ruining his plan to take over the universe. He even took over my body and tried to kill me while in it. Said he was going to throw me off the water tower and everything." As he was talking, he remembered exactly what he did to him and curled up a bit. Tecna notices this, gets up, walks to him, and immediately pulls him into a bear hug.
"That bad demon will never hurt you as long as I draw breath," Tecna said, letting him see her eyes, full of determination. "But remember, you are a fairy now, so if he does come back, you can show him to never mess with you or your family."
"You promise?" Dipper looked at her and said,
You have my word as the princess of Zenith," Tecna Promised him as Musa and Layla joined him.
"And the Princess of Melodia," Musa chimed in.
"And the Princess of Andros," Layla said as well. "You have different kingdoms willing tp protect you from him if he should ever be resurrected."
At that moment, Dipper then hugs Tecna back and his tears become happy ones, so overjoyed that the fact his new friends would go to such lengths to protect him. At that moment, Mabel, Flora, and Stella came out of Flora's room to see what was going on.
"What did we miss?" Mabel asked, seeing her brother in a bear hug by Tecna.
"Your brother said something about Bill Cipher and the horrors he caused. So Tecna made sure he was going to be ok," Bloom said to Mabel.
"Yeah, Bill sucks," Mabel said. "Glad he's dead and suffering down in Hell."
"And we just told him that the 3 kingdoms of ours will protect him if he ever comes back," Musa said. "Which means you're involved as well, Mabel."
"Make that 4," Flora said, joining in.
"5, actually," Stella added to that.
"And I may not have a planet of my own, but I'll help as well," Bloom said, joining on the thing as well. "Nobody makes a member of the Winx Club cry and gets away with it."
"T-thank you, guys," Dipper says. "I really mean it, too. Thank you..."
"Don't mention it, Dipper," Bloom says as she makes him feel safe. A few seconds later, a letter slides under the door and Bloom notices it. "Oh? A letter," She said as Kiko went over and picked up the letter in his mouth, returning it to Bloom, earning a gentle pat on his head. She then opens the letter and reads it.
"What does it say, Bloom?" Flora wondered to her friend.
Bloom puts the letter down and says "Turns out we were chosen to have kitchen duty this week, and this includes preparing dinner for everyone at Alfea."
Tecna walks into the kitchen for a quick second as Flora notices what she's about to get. "No Tecna, you can't bring your deep-fryer to make the meals," Flora told her. Defeated, Tecna came back out and sat next to Dipper, who was drying his tears from the crying.
"Whatever it is, we need to figure out a good way we can balance this dinner thing," Dipper assured his friends and then saw Mabel smiling "That doesn't involve an all-gummy meal." Mabel's smile quickly turns into a frown, a little angry at her brother's choice.
"Oh, you're no fun!" Mabel grouched at him.
"Whatever we make, we need to make sure it'll be cheap, filling, and well for the taste buds," Bloom told her friends and they all agreed with her. "Something everyone can enjoy, no matter what world they're from."
