"I'll leave this here, and this one there… Oh! This will look totes good here!"
Lily smiled happily while accommodating her recently bought clothes inside her closet. Going to the mall with Leni was one of her favorite things; she liked clothes and really enjoyed her big sister's company. While it was true that Lily got along very well with all her sisters, Leni was a special case; she was the sweetest and usually the happiest of them all, which made her the perfect partner. And, just like her, Lily had it easy when it came to guess her feelings and what would make them happy.
That's precisely why, after accommodating her clothes and admiring them with pride, she felt a strong sensation of sadness in the house. Leni was downstairs, maybe she would know what's going on.
She walked out of her room and went downstairs. There she spotted Leni on the couch using her cellphone.
"Leni," Lily called from behind. "You know what's happening in the house"
"Eh?" Leni replied. "What are you talking about?"
"Everyone seems to be sad, it's in the air, can't you feel it?"
Leni took her finger to the chin and thought about it for a moment. "Hm… I think you're right. Why would that be?"
"It's been like this for several days now," Lily sat on the couch beside her sister. "I think it's weird that even Lucy was trying to cheer up Lynn. Something's going on."
Leni thought about it more, until realization fell on her like a bucket of cold water.
"Oh no…" she said, her eyes wide open. "It's about time…"
"Time? For what?" Lily asked.
"Don't you remember Lily? Years ago there was a person in the house…"
It took her some moments to get it, but it finally fell on her. "Oh…" she said, now discouraged.
"Yes, in a few weeks will be the 'anniversary' of the day he left the house." Leni commented. "Some of us are still hurt."
"B-but you…"
"Well, it, like, affects me that he's gone. But it affected others more, way more." Leni said. She put her phone on the coffee table and faced her sister. "Let's say I was lucky. Besides, I didn't want him to leave. I don't know if he crossed the line when he did that but… I don't hold anything against him. It's okay, our sisters can have better days anyways."
"Better days…" Lily thought. Yes, maybe Leni was right, but it didn't mean she couldn't do anything to soothe the pain. She watched as Leni took her phone back;; in the table there were several magazines, most of them about fashion but one of them caught her attention; it had an article about a spa on the cover.
"Of course!"
"Leni," Lily said. "How about this: why don't we have a spa day? That way we can forget about it for a while, lift the mood and make everyone happy!"
The elder sister looked at Lily for a moment; it wasn't new that she had the best ideas to cheer everyone up. She smiled, and patted her in the head.
Leni reached with her arms and hugged her tight. "Oh, Lily, what did we do to deserve you?"
Lily hugged her back; she was the one who broke the hug, got on her feet and called everyone.
"Sister meeting!" she yelled at the base of the stairs. One by one, the sisters came down, slow and sad as they have been the last few days.
"What's the meaning of this?"
"It better be important."
"I have things to do!"
"I don't wanna do anything…"
"Now listen, girls," Leni cut them off. "Lily and I know you're all sad, we all are. But it doesn't have to be like this."
All the sisters looked at each other, wondering what she meant.
"So, Lily had a great idea. What do you think about having a Spa day?" she said with excitement. At first, her sisters just stared at her, which gave Leni a bad feeling. But then, her sad faces illuminated with genuine smiles.
"Well, that wouldn't be bad." Lori commented.
"I could use a massage right now," Lynn said, rubbing her neck.
Leni stood up and walked in front of her sisters. "Say no more, girls, everyone to Vanzilla!"
Even Lisa and Lana, whose personal hygiene habits were…not bad but pretty questionable, were as excited as the other sisters.
Luna, who was asleep just minutes ago, seemed slightly enthusiastic at the idea.
Upon arriving, they all behaved with etiquette and education, something that once was hard for them years ago. One of the managers happened to know Leni, and made sure they all had the best treatments.
Some of the employees, on the other hand, felt intimidated by the physique of their clients; they all had well developed bodies, especially Leni and Lori, the elders.
No man over the age of 13 would have resisted the sight of 10 beautiful girls covered just with towels; each one with a characteristic that possibly attracted a few looks on the street. Even Lily was developing a very nice body, her classmates could tell.
It was a very relaxing day for the Loud sisters, there wasn't any fight, any argument and everyone enjoyed their time. The employees gave them the best treatment they could offer and, why not? Spoiled them a little bit. They all had fun, no exception, and everything seemed to be okay.
They all chatted about their favorite part of the day; Lynn? The body massage made miracles with her stiff muscles . Lori? That facial mask took away the bags under her eyes and the wrinkles, besides making her look a few years younger. Lana? You guessed right, the mud bath made her skin feel softer than it has ever been. Their tense bodies felt more loose and lighter than ever. Plus, their purses were full of products the spa offered them, so they could take care of themselves at home. They all were happy, but what's a perfect day without an ice cream?
About an hour passed when they considered it was time to get back home. They forgot about the date and the fog of sadness disappeared; nothing mattered but themselves in that moment. Vanzilla parked on the driveway a little past eight; the Loud sisters spent so much time outside they didn't realize it was that late already.
For dinner, they ate the pizza that was left from last night; although they were now adults, their fights for the last slice of pizza didn't stop. Once satisfied, they all walked upstairs.
"Today was perfect!" Lori said.
"It's been forever since my nails were this perfect!" Leni commented.
"Yeah, that spa idea was perfect, Lily" Lynn added.
The blonde blushed, and rubbed the back of her neck. "Yeah, it was nothing. Besides, we all deserved it."
"You're damn right," Lynn said. "Even Lisa wants to go again."
The genis blushed upon hearing her name, and looked away. "I-I must admit it was a unique experience, quite invigorating if you allow me, so yes, I'd totes go again."
Everyone turned to her; after realizing what she just said, she covered her mouth with her hands and blushed fiercely. This was the first time they heard her speak using such an informal word, the kind that Len uses. She tried to fix it quickly but the embarrassment didn't let her speak correctly.
"I-I mean, I really would like to go in the future." She somehow managed to regain her composure. A few moments of silence followed her statement until Luan spoke.
"Well, I'm glad you decided to go, but I thought you didn't like, you know, speaking with other people…" She commented.
Lisa used her index finger to fix her glasses. "One of the most notorious advantages of humans is the capacity to change and adapt;" She said, "In other words: time passes and people change. And I want to change for good."
"That's a good start, and we're glad to hear that." Luna spoke. "What about you, Lans? Would you go again?... Lana?"
They all realized their sister was still at the foot of the stairs; looking at her phone with a perplexed expression. Luan was the first to call her.
"What's wrong, Lana, did Cliff Jr. eat your tongue?" She joked, and though her sister groaned at such a bad joke, Lana didn't ever hear it.
"Hello?" Now Lynn tried to get her attention. "Earth to Lana?...
But it had no effect. Now, it was Lola's turn.
"Lana!" she yelled, causing her sister to flinch.
"What's happening, Lana?" Lori asked.
"Oh, s-sorry girls but…I got a message…"
Lori didn't say anything for a moment, expecting her to elaborate further. "...so?"
"It's f-from…L-Lincoln."
Now her sisters were perplexed. No one knew what to do or what to say.
"W-what does he want?" Lynn asked.
She looked at her phone again, reading the message once more.
"He says he…wants to see me…"
Everyone felt their pulse increase; hundreds of memories came back to them and hit like a punch right to the face. Suddenly, memories and feelings flooded their minds; there were so many they felt like they happened just yesterday.
It didn't matter how hard they tried, the heart would betray them and make sure the things related to love were there forever. That feeling was something special, and yet something that hurt so much…
