On Luna's head, hundreds of ideas came as she gathered the papers scattered around the floor, so many she managed to create a perfect song. This wouldn't be possible without Lincoln, who offered to help her even when she acted rude with him. Just by thinking about her brother and his intense gaze, her face blushed fiercely.

"He's cute," She thought. "He's cute, attentive, considerate, kind, sometimes funny…and he'll be there for me forever."

She thought it was best not to disappoint him, so she would give everything to win that contest.

"I'm gonna win…I feel it in my veins…I'm gonna win."

And with that thought in her head, she went to sleep.

About an hour later, Luan arrived at the room. She heard the conversation Lincoln and Luna had, but she didn't understand that pain she felt on her chest; it was like a pinch, it didn't hurt that bad but it was really annoying.

She saw the tall figure of her brother walking out of the room, and now in her bed she couldn't stop thinking about it. It wasn't new, back in school, many girls would do the same; they'd whisper things about wanting to ask him out, and the most shameless would say the things they'd do if he was in their bed. It disgusted her.

Far beyond a protective instinct, she felt a longing, just like them.

Would it be that I'm jealous? She thought in the darkness of her room.

Her sister's soft snores gave her something else to think about.

Is there something between you and Lincoln, Luna?

She rolled over her side. Why do I feel like this?

Luan didn't sleep much that night; she tried to decrypt what her heart was trying to say. It wasn't that hard, what she found difficult was to admit that she was interested in Lincoln; at first, she thought it was just pride and affection to see who he'd become as he grew older. But now she wasn't that sure about that. Would it be that she wanted him…just for her?

"No. He's not mine. He's not mine nor is he someone else's. He makes it very clear when he doesn't feel like doing something we want. He's not ours, and he will not always be there for us. It is better if I get rid of that idea."

And even if she loved Luna and wanted her to win, it worried her how close she and Lincoln had grown.

Two days passed, and the feared date for Luna was finally here. She was nervous, but yet determined to give everything on the stage. She peeked through the curtain, and spotted her family and friends sitting in the first row. After a few minutes, the show started.

Doubt and fear took over her as she saw the excellent performance of the people that participated before her. She thought about leaving everything and walk out of the building; so what if her family and friends made space in their agendas just to come and see her? She did not owe them anything nor forced them to come here.

She peeked again, and saw how her brother looked at the stage with anticipation. He knew she would be the next, and was excited to hear her sing the song they created together. No. She couldn't do this to him.

With determination, she picked up her guitar and plugged it to the amp. She swallowed hard, hoping to get rid of the fear and shame.

"Ladies and gentleman, our next participant is special because she will rock us all tonight!" the announcer said. "Please receive, Luna Loud!"

People cheered and acclaimed her name. The fear she felt moments ago was obliterated and replaced with confidence. She started to play, not missing a single note or forgetting a single word. It was better than she expected, people jumped, head-banged and cheered as she played the riffs. She sang with all she could, and the amps capted each one of her notes. It only lasted a few minutes, but if it was in the people's hand, it could've been hours of dance and singing. When she was done, she received the warmest round of applause of all night, and even when there were pretty talented people after her presentation, she was the people's favorite.

It wasn't a surprise when the announcer said her name after declaring the winner; she got a trophy, cash and an invitation to one of the most acclaimed competitions in the country, which she gladly accepted.

As she walked out of the building, people already waited for her asking for autographs, photos or simply claiming her name. She pleased them as much as she could, and after several minutes of hanging out with her fans, she went home with her family.

They declared how proud they were of her, and she really appreciated it. But there was only one person she wanted to hear of.

"So, was it good?" she said. Lincoln, though he didn't listen with all the noise, understood what she meant.

"Perfect, just as you know how to do it." He replied with a smile.

They all ate pizza while watching the repetition in the TV, and Luna saw from the POV of the public her performance; a brown haired girl wearing purple clothes jumping and playing the guitar, gripping tight the mic and singing with passion. If she didn't know it was herself, she wouldn't have recognized.

Luna enjoyed the time with her family like she hasn't in the last few days. Hours had to pass until she felt her energy levels getting low. The other felt the same, and agreed it was time to go to sleep. Lincoln was the last to go upstairs; she waited for him at the top of the stairs, and hugged him by surprise.

"Thanks for everything, Lincoln." She said, burying her face on his chest.

"Don't mention it. It's what a good brother would do."

"Yes, but you stayed with me even when I rejected you. You accepted me for who I am. I wouldn't have won if it wasn't for you." She looked him in the eye. "I love you, brother."

Lincoln smiled. "I love you too, Luna."

She kissed him on the cheek before getting inside her room. She barely made it to the bed when she fell asleep.

After some minutes, Lincoln walked out of the bathroom wearing his sleeping clothes. Man, I'm so tired, he thought, stretching his arms and yawning.

Halfway he spotted Luan, who seemed hesitant to enter her room.

"Luan?" He asked. "What's wrong?"

"Ah-no, nothing, don't worry, Link." She replied. "I-I'm just a little distracted."

"Can the queen of the pranks ever be distracted?" He asked jokingly. "The one that makes everyone laugh?"

Luan smiled lightly.

"Come on, I know that's not your smile." Lincoln said.

A little more confident, Luan showed him a wide smile, her most remarkable characteristic.

"Now that's better." He commented, putting his hand on her shoulder. "Don't let anything overwhelm you. If you ever need something, you know where to find me."

"I know, Link, thank you."

She kissed him on the cheek and finally got inside her room. She laid on her bed, awake, not being able to sleep. She felt that same pinch on her chest when Luna kissed him; it wasn't something out of the ordinary, after all they were siblings. But then, why did she feel like that?

She didn't forget either what he does for them, and that gave her a reason that, as small as it could be, was enough to love him more.

I thank him for everything, but… is that enough? She asked. What else can I do to make him happy, to make him smile? I feel like I…and only I can give him the happiness he so much deserves.

Luan revolted on her bed as indecision ate her innerly.

Since we've been kids, he's been there for me. I can remember the warmth of his arms, his recomforting smile, his cute white hair… Everything about him makes me love him more and more…and on one is gonna take him from my side.

The next day Luan had an idea. She would have a surprise ready.

Lincoln woke up early that morning. He had a weird dream where he and Clyde were secret agents that protected the world from the aliens. Lincoln was old, while Clyde was younger, and even when Clyde was a professional in the eyes of the company, he was still a rookie in the eyes of Lincoln. He had a strange sensation of seeing this before. He sat on the bed and stretched his body. Maybe a glass of milk and cookies would make him remember more.

As he entered the kitchen, a strange sensation of uncertainness took over him. The room was completely alone and quiet, except for the noise coming from the refrigerator. He sighed and walked over the fridge; as soon as his hand touched the handle, a recording of an evil laughter started playing.

It was Luan's.

He swallowed, and slowly opened the fridge. He managed to see something being shot towards his face, but managed to cover with her arms before the impact. Nothing crashed against him, he opened his eyes slowly, and saw a letter attached to a milk carton. Lincoln took the letter and started to read it.

'This milk is for Lincoln; whoever dares to touch it or read this letter, will receive a very funny April's fools. I will know if someone opened and read this letter. You have been warned.'

If you're Lincoln, this is for you, for all the times you've helped me in my 're the best brother a girl could ever have. There have been times where I didn't behave that good, but I've changed, don't you think? Haha.

I'm out looking for something special, and besides this carton of milk, I got something else for you: there's a hidden key in your pocket (and I'm dead sure you haven't noticed :P) which opens one door in the cupboard. There are several delicious things, and you can eat as much as you want; they were bought with the money we made from Funny Business, remember?

Let's say this is your part. On your stuffed bunny there's another letter. Another adventure to spend the day, isn't that funny? And the last surprise awaits you at the end of the road.

–Luan.

Lincoln thanked Luan for all the things she did for him. He took the key out of his pocket, opened the door she mentioned, grabbed a handful of sweets and devoured them. Once done, he walked upstairs towards his bedroom. There, he spotted Bun-bun sitting in a corner of his bed. He took the stuffed animal and grabbed the letter attached at the back of it.

The next clue was some kind of map, with puzzles he had to solve in order to get the next clue. He spent the rest of the day playing her game and finding more letters. Some of them took him to the park, others took him to restaurants, and others took him to the local fair. It may sound like it's too much, but he had fun.

He found the last note under a bench in the middle of the park; it didn't have a puzzle or anything, it just said 'Go home'.

He had fun solving everything she made for him, and by finding the last clue he thought he had won. But in reality, Luan was the true winner.

He entered the house, and was received by his big sister holding a present in front of him with both hands.

"Luan, I really had fun today," he commented, taking the present. "But why?"

"You see, Link, I haven't really thank you for everything you do for us. You sacrifice your own time to do stuff we like, even if you don't like them. And that's why I thought it'd be a good way to show you how thankful I am for everything."

"You know you don't have to thank me, I enjoy spending time with you all." He said, putting his hand on her shoulder. "But it means a lot that you planned all this just so I could have a funny day."

"And it'll get better. Open the present." She said. Carefully, Lincoln took off the top of the box and looked at its content. It was a game, a game that he so much wanted but didn't have the money to buy.

"L-Luan…is this?..."

"Yes, yes it is."

"Oh my god!" he said with total excitement. "Thank you thank you thank you!"

And with a wide smile, Lincoln hugged her. Luan, with a noticeable blush on her face, returned the hug.

This is exactly the smile I was looking for, and I'll do everything to protect it. I can make you happy, Lincoln, and…all you need to make me happy is giving me your heart.
