Things looked like they were about to get interesting, but one can never know how much. On the outside it looked like a simple sibling meeting, just family members seeing one another again after a long time. In reality, it was more as if one heart was being sought for many others, longing to see him at least one more time. The curiosity to see what their brother wanted gave them hopes, did he change his mind? Did he wish to be with at least one of them?
Lori was in her room in front of the mirror applying makeup, she used a cyan blouse with black pants and black heels. Her hair was done in a ponytail and a collar hanged from her neck. She wanted to be perfect for her brother, she wanted him to see how much she had changed through all this time.
Ever since she found out that Lincoln wanted to meet with them, she wanted everything to be perfect; she thought about her clothes, her makeup, even the things she wanted to know about his life. She knew it would hurt to hear about how he made his life with Sam, but after all she and her sisters had gone through she believed that it was something easy to get over. Besides, Lincoln deserved to live his life, even if it wasn't with her or any of her sisters. Who were they to deny it?
Of course she had her doubts, and she was sure as hell the other had theirs too. Would he say he loved them and would receive them in his live as his partners? How would Sam react to that? Lori knew it was a stupid idea, and even if it was to happen the odds were stupid low.
But never zero.
The eldest of the Loud sisters shook her head to clear her mind. No. This had to be perfect, and if some of them mentioned something about the past he'd probably leave again.
"Hey Lori," Leni greeted and entered the room. "Are you ready?"
Leni was wearing a white sun dress with a hat, her hair was loose and there was just a little bit of makeup on her face. Her outfit was more casual than Lori's.
"Yeah, almost." Lori replied. She turned back her face towards the mirror, checking her makeup one more time just to make sure everything was okay. She tried so hard to hide her wrinkles; it wasn't enough, it was never enough, it didn't matter how many products she used, for her it was never enough.
"Leni," Lori called.
"Yeah?"
"Do...Do you think Lincoln will like this?" she asked, signalling at her outfit. Leni took a glance at her clothes. She looked completely amazing.
"It is like, totes beautiful." Leni replied kindly. This made Lori feel more confident and...
Leni walked towards Lori's closet and began to search for something. This caught Lori's attention.
"What are you doing?" she asked.
"I'm looking for some clothes for you." Leni replied. This shattered the confidence Lori felt seconds ago.
"But, I thought you said that I looked beautiful." Lori said, her voice denoted a hint of sadness.
"Yeah you do," she replied. "To go to work."
This confused the elder sister. "What?"
"Come on, Lori," Leni had picked a completely new outfit, a pair of jeans and a blue sleeveless blouse. "It's just Lincoln.
It took Lori a few moments to understand. Lincoln would never judge her based on her looks, she knew he'd accept her just as she was. Lori sighed and smiled, she had forgotten that, despite the years on her, despite what life had made them gone through, Leni still was the same kind girl as before.
Leni left the clothes on the bed and walked to the door. "We'll be waiting for you downstairs."
In the living room, the rest of the sisters were ready and waiting for Lori. They all followed Leni's example and decided to use something that was neither too elegant, nor too casual, just enough to look presentable and at the same time keep their essence.
Luan used a white sleeveless blouse with yellow pants and shoes, her hair waving free over her shoulders. Lynn was wearing a football jersey with jeans and sneakers. Her hair done in a ponytail. Lana's first pick was a more casual style: overalls with a red shirt underneath and red shoes, but in the end she decided to use a more feminine outfit, choosing a capris with a white shirt and shoes. Her hair was done in a ponytail. And Lily opted for something comfortable: jeans, a black t-shirt under a purple vest and shoes.
These picks weren't coincidence, they wanted to look more beautiful for Lincoln.
Once Lori came downstairs, they al gathered at the door. "Alright, so here is the plan: Luan, Lynn, Lana, Lily and I are going to go and meet with Lincoln. The rest are gonna stay here."
Everyone nodded. The day had finally arrived, they were about to meet with their brother after a long time of not knowing about him (at least not all of them). They were about to go out, until...
"Girls," they heard someone call, an emotionless voice.
"Lucy?" Lori asked.
Lucy was at the top of the stairs, observing them without any emotion in her bangs-covered eyes. They wondered what she wanted, did she changed decided to go with them?
Lucy began to walk down the stairs, slowly and insecure like a little girl on her first day at school. "I...I just wanted to wish you all good luck," she commented. "I'm not going with you, and I know we haven't in good terms after all this thing about the meeting began, but I think that...you are really brave for going, braver than us."
"We understand you still don't feel ready for this," Lana replied, walking to her and putting a hand on her shoulder. "But that's not a bad thing. We know this is a very hard decision, even I'm nervous about it. But please don't think that way about you."
Lucy wasn't so sure about it, but decided to let it slide.
Lana looked up at the stairs, seeing the other sisters walking down to meet them.
Everyone except for Luna.
"Girls," Lola started. "Good luck."
"Whilst I don't believe in luck, I do expect favourable results from this rendezvous." Lisa commented. The others have her an odd look, which she found funny. "Just kidding, I hope everything goes well."
The others laughed, not everyday one get to see Lisa crack a joke outta nowhere; even if it was as bad as Luan's.
"Thank you so much, girls." Lana commented. "It really means a lot to us."
"We better get going," Lori said. "I want to get a good parking spot.
The sisters crossed the door, ready to face an old demon of their past and start a new chapter on their lives. Were they ready? Hell no, they were far from ready. But they wanted to see him so bad they were willing to risk it. Lana had sent Lincoln a message to confirm the logistics; once the place and time were confirmed, the drove of towards the park. Lana had a strange feeling, a sensation of uneasiness, like they were about to meet with something they would regret. She didn't care, they were still doing it.
About twenty minutes later they walked down the entrance of the park. The day was specially hot, and she was thankful that she was using a pretty fresh outfit. It was almost as if Leni had anticipated the weather. "Man, the day sure's hot..."
"Yeah," Luan replied. "I just hope the heat doesn't melt our ideas."
Only Luan laughed, the other didn't groan like they would usually do. Instead, they were thankful that at least one of them was trying to make this more bearable.
Lana saw the screen of her phone, no message from him yet.
"Hey, girls..." Leni started. "We have, like, an hour or so before Lincoln arrives. Why don't we go and drink some smoothies in the meantime?"
Most of the sisters agreed with her, the heat was strong and they needed something fresh. But Lana declined.
"You girls go, I'll be under the big tree in the middle." she commented. "I'll give you a call if I see him."
None of the other questioned her, she probably had her reasons. Lana sat at the base of the old tree in the middle of the park, seeing her sisters entering the nearest ice cream shop. She sighed and lean against the trunk.
Am I really doing this? she thought. I mean, after all these years we were finally over it; everything was perfect, we made our own lives and had left this bad moment behind.
The blonde drew one knee to her chest and rested her arm on top. Why did he want to come? Why do it now? While she did want to see her brother again, she still pondered his reasons to come back to the place where his life changed. For many years she wondered why none of her sisters left the house, why she didn't left the house.
Maybe it was that they grew so close to each other to leave. Maybe it was that they had one event in common that attached them to that place, something that was so necessary they couldn't just let go.
Or maybe it was that they had nothing left. Sure their parents had let them money and stuff, but what could they do with that? Their lives were made there, the couldn't just go and start over somewhere else. They had a strong sense of family, they felt like the needed to be there for the others.
Lana took her phone and earbuds from her purse, put them in, played some music and closed her eyes. She needed some time to clear her brain and face his brother with a cool mind.
While her mind was in peace, her surroundings were quite another story. Not so far from her, a brown mouse was being chased by a grey cat; they ran through a very crowded street, creating confusion amongst the people as the little rodent attempted to escape death and the cat tried to get his meal. At one point the mouse passed though a drain pipe, climbing its way to the roof of a small house. The cat tried to catch up with it by jumping on a trash can and then to a window, but it couldn't get a firm grip on the edge of the window and fell on top of several trash bags. The mouse escaped to live another day, while the cat walked away still hungry.
Not so far were a pair of kids playing with mini bikes. one of them had red hair and wore an orange t-shirt, with blue shorts. The other kid was taller, he wore a white shirt with purple shorts and used a green hat. Both of them raced through the people, seemingly not caring about their safety or the people around them. At one point they passed near a girl who looked about fifteen years old, she had red hair and used a sleeveless red blouse and white skirt. She carried a pair of shakes in her hands and walked to one the benches where a blonde guy about the same age as her was waiting for her. When the kids passed near her. she dropped the shakes to avoid being hit. The girl, visibly angry, she waved her fist at them. "I'm gonna tell mom!" she yelled.
The song ended and she opened her eyes. Not much people was around except for a few couples passing by. She walked towards a bench and sat, feeling the heat of the sun on her skin. She looked around, trying to see if her brother was there, but there was no sight of him. Lana sighed and put her earbuds back on, not knowing why she looked at her left, noticing a white spot on the distance; this instantly drew her attention, and she stood up to have a better look.
If her eyes were as good as she thought, that had to be Lincoln sitting on a bench with Sam; he looked taller, his frame was broader, his long hair...
Long hair?
She rubbed her eyes and saw it again, noticing his hair falling on his shoulders. No, that wasn't his hair, it was...
Her heart skipped a beat and a knot formed in her throat, she knew this was going to happen. Letting out a heavy sigh, she took her phone and dialled Leni's number.
Lana saw the door of the store shot open in just a few seconds after she told the girls about what she saw. All of them rushed to the bench and began to interrogate their sister desperately. Lana chuckled, and pointed at the other bench. The sisters couldn't believe it, it was...
"Lincoln..." Leni said, taking her hand to her mouth.
Almost instantly, almost as if he had heard Leni's voice saying his name, Lincoln turned his head to the right, spotting the bench where all his sisters were gathered. The white-haired man gasped lightly and stood up.
Lana knew he was looking at her, she felt the weight of his gaze over her shoulders; after all these years, after all the pain, laughs, worries they've been through, after loosing him once.. there he was, with his family. An old wound began to hurt in them, it didn't hurt like it used to, but the pain was still there, reminding them that they could've be in Sam's place. It was definitely annoying, but they ignored it.
Before they realized, Lincoln and Sam were less than two meters away from them. Bot the Loud sisters and Lincoln with Sam stared at each other, not a single word was uttered. Lincoln's gaze was nostalgic, they could feel the sheer happiness in it because they had the same gaze with him. But Sam..
None of them could tell what it was, it felt heavy and full of sentiment. They knew he had told her about it, and if her stare made them feel that uncomfortable, they had no doubt he did not skipped a single detail.
They spent a couple of moments looking at their brother's physical changes: he was taller than their father, his back was wide and his chest looked stronger, the tight fabric of his orange polo and skinny jeans did nothing to hide how worked his arms and legs were; not as big as an athlete, but he definitely had a fair amount of muscle. His face was covered by a 5 O'clock shadow, and they were sure as hell that his voice would be deeper that they remembered.
Seeing the love of your life after a long time, even when it was planned, leaves you breathless and make words difficult. None of them could say a word, nothing could erase the image of their brother from their minds; he looked even more handsome than when he was younger.
And then there was Sam. She wasn't any taller but her face was really smooth, all she needed was just a little bit of makeup to have the face of a supermodel. Her golden hair was a little longer, and the characteristic blue bang was still there. Now that we talked about the smallest changes, let's talk about the game changer. Her body was voluptuous, there was no doubt she had won the genetic lottery. She no longer was a teenager: her breasts were big, her hips were wide and her but was impressive. All those assets gathered in a single woman would make any man go crazy.
Bet he feels like the luckiest man on earth... Lynn thought.
Unlike when they were younger, all the Loud sisters had a stunning body that could steal the looks of any man and woman, but none of them represented a threat for Sam.
They could have spend all that time there, just looking at each other without saying a word, but the little girl on top of Lincoln's shoulders broke the silence.
"Can I get down, daddy?"
"Y-Yeah, no problem, Lina..."
Lina... Lana thought. It can't be...it's his daughter...
Indeed she was, the little girl looked a lot like Sam, but if she inherited something from Lincoln, it had to be his most characteristic trait: his white hair.
Lina looked at the bunch of women standing in front of them, smiling shyly and not knowing what to say. Her childish mind got easily distracted by the sound of some kids playing around, she left the scene and joined them.
"Well..." Lincoln spoke. "I believe you all have some questions."
The Loud sisters decided to have one last look at him, then they all sat to have the talk they all feared, but really needed.
