For Maddy, love had been a strange thing.
She had never quite figured out what it was about Nate Jacobs that made her lose all common sense. He was handsome, sure, but there had to be something more to it. At the end of the day, Maddy could also pull her own when it came to attracting men.
He wasn't the ideal boyfriend. Not at all, actually. There were times he made Maddy feel like absolute shit. There were times he treated Maddy like absolute shit. There were times he almost beat the shit out of Maddy.
Then there was the fighting. They were so toxic together, always ready to jump at each other's throats. She knew exactly how to trigger his anger and she would be lying if she said sometimes she took great joy in pushing Nate to the point of no return.
So what was it?
Nate's love language was definitely gift giving. He had spoiled Maddy with anything her heart desired. Sexy shoes, fancy dinners, a fur coat. She felt like a high roller with Nate. A glamazon.
She imagined herself as Mrs Nathaniel Jacobs. As this powerful woman by his side.
But the truth was she was just some young high school girl putting up with an abusive boyfriend and running back to her toxic relationship.
Then there was the disc. She had obviously watched it as soon as she got home. At the time, having just found a collection of dick pics on Nate's phone, she imagined it depicting Nate in a gay orgy or something.
But what she saw was even more fucked up.
She couldn't believe that piece of shit Mr Jacobs had screwed Jules. And that Nate knew. And that now she knew.
Her options at the time felt endless. Because if Nate had money, his dad had serious money. And a lot to fucking lose if this tape came out.
Maddy was also loyal to a fault and absolutely rotten to Nate.
So for the moment, she quietly held onto her ammunition, her insurance policy. Would she ever release it? Maybe. Would she ever return it? Probably not.
Maddy knew somewhere along the way Nate was going to fuck up. Big time. And when that time came, Maddy knew she would want revenge. Because despite her loyalty, Maddy could be one vengeful bitch.
There was one scenario Maddy had never considered- and that was the ultimate betrayal from her best friend. Her soulmate.
And maybe, had she been a little less focused on her personal dilemma, she would have taken more notice of how strange her friend had been acting.
And maybe, had she realised her friend had been acting strange, she would've put together earlier what was going on.
And maybe, had she realised earlier what was going on, she would have noticed Cassie taking the disc from her wardrobe.
But she didn't. And when she went looking for the disc a few days later, it was gone.
Lately you been switching up the mixture, almost like you're on to someone else.
