SONIC AND THE LITTLE MERHOG
CHAPTER 1: A MYTHICAL ENCOUNTER
In the deep blue sea of Mobius, lies an underwater facility bearing a familiar logo of a certain evil mastermind. Inside said facility, was the mastermind himself: Dr. Eggman. He's currently typing on his computer with tons of research notes on the side, while his robot assistants Orbot and Cubot watch on in confusion.
"Uh, excuse me, Doctor?" Orbot began to ask. "What exactly are you doing?"
Eggman sighed in annoyance while he continued to type. "I told you, Orbot, I'm working on my next plan to not only destroy Sonic and his friends, but to finally conquer this planet."
Cubot scratched his head. "Didn't you say that the last time before Sonic kicked your butt?"
"THIS TIME IT'S DIFFERENT!" Eggman shouted, causing the two robots to yelp. "After months of research, I'm this close to discovering the location of the Moon Door."
"Moon Door?" The robots questioned.
"Yes. On every full moon, which so happens to be tonight, the door opens to an entirely different world. Interestingly, that world used to be part of Mobius thousands of years ago before the door was constructed."
"Wow!" Cubot exclaimed in awe. "What kind of world is it?"
"And why build such a magical door?" Orbot asked.
Eggman continued to explain while typing. "Believe it or not, the door was created by merpeople in order to—"
"MERPEOPLE?!" The robots shouted, causing the egg-shaped man to fall out of his chair and gave them an annoyed glare. The two robots couldn't help but feel excited and not notice.
"Real live merpeople?!" Orbot questioned with a starstruck look on his face. "I never imagined they would exist!"
"I know!" Cubot exclaimed while hopping in excitement. "I need to find my camera!"
"WILL YOU TWO SHUT UP?!" Eggman shouted at the two robots, causing them to flinch and appear sheepish. Sighing, Eggman got back on his chair and continued to type. "As I was saying, the merpeople created the door in order to keep something dangerous out."
"Keep what out?" Orbot and Cubot asked.
"A creature of ultimate power," Eggman answered with an evil grin. "With it under my control, no one can stop me; not even that pesky blue rodent! And one of the keys is through that door!"
He then got an excited look when his computer beeped and showed a map and something blinking on it. "Yes! I found the Moon Door!" He got up from his chair and turned to his robot lackeys. "Orbot! Cubot! Prepare the Egg Sub! We're going fishing!"
The next day, Station Square was bustling with everyday activities. But because it was a sunny day, many humans and Mobians decided to have a beach day at Emerald Coast. Some of these Mobians happened to be the famous Sonic the Hedgehog, Miles "Tails" Prower, Knuckles the Echidna, Amy Rose, Cream the Rabbit, and Cheese the Chao. Amy thought of the idea of visiting Station Square for the day and having a relaxing day on the beach; and of course, she wanted to bring some of her friends along.
Sonic, while not one for beaches (due to a certain fear), couldn't resist the thought of lounging on a beach chair and soaking some rays. Knuckles was hesitant on going due to not wanting to leave the Master Emerald unprotected. But Tails assured him that his new security system that he had personally installed on Angel Island would keep the gem safe. And little Cream and her Chao companion just couldn't say no to a day on the beach.
In a secluded area, Sonic and his friends are doing their own thing away from fans and the paparazzi, be it sunbathing, swimming, or building sandcastles.
"I gotta say, Amy, having a beach day was a great idea," Sonic said as he did a stretch while lying on a beach chair.
"Yeah!" Tails added as he and Cream built a sandcastle. "After the war with Eggman and Infinite, it's nice to finally relax and have time to ourselves."
"That's the idea!" Amy said happily while swimming in the water. "Even Knuckles seems to be enjoying himself."
The four Mobians turned toward the second beach chair that was next to Sonic's to see the red echidna napping and even snoring. This made them giggle in amusement.
Tails then looked around before looking at Cream. "Hey, Cream? Where did Cheese go?"
"Cheese went to look for seashells for our castle," Cream answered with a smile. "He should be back soon."
"CHAO!"
The cry startled everyone that even Knuckles woke up with a yelp and fell off his chair. They all turned to a small light blue and yellow creature with pink wings and a red bow tie flying toward them with a fearful look on his face.
Cream stood up and held the frightened Chao in her arms. "Cheese?! What's the matter?!"
Cheese looked at his caretaker and started to babble in his language and make hand gestures. Everyone else looked on in confusion but got concerned when the rabbit gasped in horror.
"You found a girl washed up on shore?!" She exclaimed while the others gasped in shock.
"Chao chao chao!" Cheese replied with a nod.
Sonic quickly leapt out of his chair, looking ready for action. "Well, what are we waiting for? Lead the way!"
The little Chao nodded with a determined look on his face and flew off. Everyone else abandoned what they were doing and followed him.
As they traveled further down Emerald Coast, Cheese was looking around for where he had found the girl. He then made a noise and quickly flew toward a pile of seaweed. Everyone got confused, but as they got closer, they could see that there was a passed out, female, maroon hedgehog with a silver-white crescent moon mark on her forehead and peach skin that covered her muzzle, arms, inner ears, and torso. Her two front quills reached her shoulders while the rest reached her hips and was wearing a light blue hairband with sapphires on the ends. She was wearing coral pink beaded bracelets on her wrists and only a blue shell top.
Tails was the first to reach her and quickly picked up her wrist to check for a pulse. The others watched with anxious looks, and the two-tailed fox turned to them with a smile.
"She's okay," he announced.
The others let out relieved sighs after hearing the news.
"Thank Chaos," Knuckles said as he wiped his forehead. "The last thing we need is a corpse." He then heard a whimper and turned to Cream, who had a tearful look on her face. Realizing that he unintentionally scared the poor rabbit, he was about to apologize but then Amy whacked him on the head. "OW!"
"Knuckles!" She shouted in anger. "Don't say things like that!"
"S-Sorry!"
Sonic frowned at the two and got between them. "Okay, okay, break it up." He then gave them a look reminding them of the current situation. "Let's just get this seaweed off of her and take her to the hospital."
That snapped the pink hedgehog and red echidna out of it and nodded along with Tails, Cream, and Cheese. They began to remove the seaweed at a fast pace so they could get the poor girl the help she needed. As Amy removed some seaweed from the girl's feet, she let out a startled gasp and dropped the seaweed she was holding to cover her mouth with her hands.
"Amy?" Tails asked, looking concerned. "What's the matter?"
"It's…it's her feet!"
"Her feet?"
Everyone looked to where they expected to find maroon feet. But they gasped when they saw not feet, but white fins. Giving startled looks to each other, they quickly removed the rest of the seaweed and their jaws immediately fell when they saw not legs, but a light blue tail.
"Is that a…?" Sonic questioned with a disbelieving look on his face.
"A mermaid!" Amy and Cream both got stars in their eyes and clasped each other's hands while Cheese looked on in amazement.
"Oh, no, no, no!" Knuckles shook his head in denial and grabbed his head. "That must be a costume! Mermaids don't exist!"
Tails pulled out a yellow handheld device from his tails called the Miles Electric and did a scan on the 'mermaid'. He pulled up her x-ray and had a shocked look on his face before showing it to his friends.
"Hate to break it to you, Knuckles, but she's legit," he said.
The only response from the red echidna was an eye twitch, and nobody could blame him for that.
The amber fox quickly put the Miles Electric away and looked at the others with a serious look on his face. "Forget the hospital! We need to get her back to my workshop!" He turned to the blue hedgehog. "Sonic, carry her back and put her in the tub so that she stays hydrated!"
Sonic gave his little buddy a salute. "I'm on it!" He gently picked the merhog up bridal style and dashed away.
"Let's grab our stuff and hurry back!" Tails ordered.
Everyone gave the fox a nod and they went back to grab their beach gear and left for the train station. But one thing was certainly on their minds.

What's this?! After almost 10 years, I've uploaded something? O.O
For those of you who don't know, I used to have two unfinished stories on here years ago. I decided to delete them because, one, I never had time to finish them like I thought, and two, I wasn't really satisfied with them; not to mention my writing wasn't that good at the time. College kept me busy and I was unable to find work, so I went back to school in 2018 to get a certification, which made things more complicated with trying to write something; not to mention I couldn't think of anything lol. I finally found work at the end of 2019, and then the pandemic happened, which made things even more complicated, even though I got furloughed for a couple of weeks.
Just when I thought things settled down, my job kept me busy. So for the time being, I focused more on reading and hopefully inspiration would come to me. Months ago, my mom helped me find a place of my own and I found a new job in the same profession, and it was exhausting but worth it XD. Around that time, I had a story idea, but sometimes it changes, so I had to think really hard on how to approach it and it took longer than I thought. I decided to just see how it goes because sometimes it looks better than you thought once it's typed.
So here we are. I don't exactly have an upload schedule, but I want to take my time with this story and possibly other stories in the future. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me and I'll try to answer them the best that I can. And if you happen to spot any grammar mistakes that I may have missed while proofreading, please don't hesitate to let me know and I'll go back and fix it.
