"All right, the little ones are asleep." Moxxie said as he walked into his bedroom, where Millie was sitting on the bed. "Jessie's not biting as much as he used to."
It was then that he noticed Millie looking melancholy, so he sat next to her. "Is something wrong, sweetie?"
Millie sighed, "Is there anything you're holding back for my sake?"
Moxxie cocked his head, "What do you mean?"
"Y'know that hit on that therapist I did? Well, I was hiding behind his desk while he was having a session with this guy who was complainin' about his girlfriend. He said that he loved her, but there were things she was doin' that drove 'em crazy and that their relationship was in trouble. He said he never told her about it, and that's when the therapist said somethin' about how couples who aren't honest with each other about those kinds of things don't last long."
"Millie, the reason we were hired to kill that therapist was because he convinced our client to divorce their wife, and then immediately went out with her once they separated. I wouldn't trust him with relationship advice."
"I know, but I looked it up and the websites I saw said the same thing. And I've been thinking about us. We've never had a fight, did we?"
Looking back, even Moxxie admitted that they rarely, if at all, fought. Sure, there were disagreements, but never anything that so much as counted as an argument. "No, not really." He said. "But isn't that good?"
"Not if we keep making ourselves sad for the other." Millie replied. "What if one day one of us just snaps and we end up hurting each other because of it?"
"That would never happen."
"How do ya know?"
"I-I just do."
There was a part of Millie that wanted to accept that response, but she reluctantly fought against it for the sake of the stability of their marriage. "Mox, I want ya to be completely honest with me. Is there anything about me that annoys ya?"
Moxxie might as well have been asked how many grains of sand there were at the beach. He strained his brain trying to think of a time Millie made him at the very least slightly peeved, but one look at Millie and all he could think about was how beautiful she was and that she was the hellfire of his life. He had to look away from her to prevent this, but it didn't help much. In spite of all of that though, he managed to pull something from his cranium.
"Well… sometimes you can have a bit of a temper problem. Someone causes you the slightest of problems, and you're on their throats… literally."
Millie sighed, "I know it's a problem sometimes, but that's how I was raised. And I've been trying to-"
"B-but that's what I love about you. You don't take shit from anyone and it's so inspiring. In fact, that one time you beat up that Wacdonalds employee for messing up your order for the third time, I wanted to join in too."
Millie couldn't help but smile, "Aw, Moxx-" Realizing what was happening, she snapped out of her lovey-dovey mood. "No, No, this ain't helpin'!"
"Oh no, I'm sorry!"
"It's ok. Let me try thinkin' of somethin'."
But it was much easier said than done. Much like with Moxxie, Millie had to use all of her brain power to find something she found annoying about him, and even then it was a struggle. She had to look away from her husband to avoid thinking about how cute he was and how much she wanted to snuggle him. It looked as if she was about to pop a blood vessel, but she did come up with something.
"You… you can be a people pleaser sometimes, even when it hurts ya."
Now Moxxie was sighing. "I know, Blitz says the same thing. I've been meaning to-"
"But that just makes ya even more special, Mox." Millie said, inexplicably. "In a place filled with assholes of all kinds, you're the one sweet imp that stands out and proud. And every day I'm thankful for that."
Moxxie gave a smile. "Oh Millie, that's so sweet."
"Satan dammit!" Millie said to herself. "Why did I say that!?"
"Weren't you being honest, though?"
"Yeah… I think, I don't know. It's like yacan't annoy me."
"It's like that with me too."
"But there's gotta be somethin'!"
"Well… how about that time during the Harvest Festival when we were trapped by Striker? I remember you being peeved at me when I pulled out my guns."
"I was?"
"Don't you remember? You said something along the lines of 'I love you, hun, but for fuck's sake!'"
"Doesn't ring a bell, but then again I had a really bad bear trap on my leg that hurt like a bitch. I probably just took it out on you and felt really bad about it later."
"Ok then, let me think of something else." Moxxie went back into straining his brain before coming up with something. "Alright, sometimes you can be a bit self-centered. Like that one time we were hired to kill that rock star, and you murdered him on stage? Everyone in the crowd thought it was an act and cheered you on, and then you ended up doing a solo for 2 hours while I sat behind the stage waiting for you to finish."
"I said I was sorry for that."
"But I wasn't angry. I realized you didn't get many chances to stand out and feel special like that in your life, so I could tell that it was important to you. If anything, I feel proud of you looking back at it- dammit, I did it again!"
"It's ok, let me try again! Um… ya get too distracted sometimes. Like that one job where we went to Hollywood, and ya stopped at every street performer and artist to buy their stuff."
"I was just trying to appreciate the arts! And I apologized for that!"
"I know, but I loved that about ya! You and yer love for artsy stuff is amazin', it's why I stayed with ya through all of it! Son of a bitch, there I go again!"
"I got one! You take too long in the shower when you start singing!"
"Why didn't ya say anythin'!?"
"I didn't care because your voice is amazing, and it gives me joy when I hear you in there."
"That's so sweet!"
"Thank you!"
At this point, Millie was getting desperate. "I swear, there are days when all ya seem to talk about are guns!"
"But I thought you liked hearing my gun trivia?"
"You're right, I do!"
"Then why did you bring it up!?"
"I don't know!" Millie facepalmed with both of her hands as she gave a sigh of defeat, falling face-first onto the bed. "Ugh, what's the use? We just can't find anything that makes us mad."
"... Well, do we absolutely need to find anything?"
"I-I don't know anymore."
Moxxie laid down next to Millie. "Because I'd rather just focus on what I love about you rather than what I don't."
"But what if-"
"What if it reaches a boiling point? Millie, you should know by now that we're different from most couples. We just had a fight, I think, about how much we love each other despite everything. I don't think we'll be going through what that guy at the therapist went through. At the end of the day, I love you with all of my heart, and I think that's all that matters."
Millie gave an even bigger smile than before, because deep down she knew he was right. If their love could survive government agents, a Wrathian assassin, and arguably the most powerful imp in Pride, it could survive anything. There was no point in trying to find faults in one another, because that was going to help no one here. Instead, like what Moxxie said, it was better to trust him and to savor the time they have together.
Millie gave her husband a hug. "I love ya too, sweetie." She said as Moxxie returned the hug. They had said those words to each other so many times that it would've lost meaning to any other couple by now. But not Millie and Moxxie, every time they said an I love you, it felt just as genuine and meaningful as the last one. And this made them double sure that their relationship was something incredible.
Millie kissed Moxxie on the lips and climbed on top of him so that he was lying on his back on the bed. As he returned the kiss, he slowly reached out and groped her ass. "Oh wait, I just found another problem." He said as he pulled away from Millie's lips. "Your butt's too big."
Millie giggled, "Since when was that a problem for ya?"
"I never said it was a bad problem."
Millie gave a seductive smirk, "Well, what are ya gonna do about it?"
"Oh, I'll show you." He then flipped her around so that he was on top now, causing her to giggle even more. They returned to the kiss, which was much more intense now, before making sweet love into the night, erasing all doubts either of them had about their relationship.
