Is The Dark All Dark?

Chapter 15

Harry was silent as he sat next to the lake, his knees drawn to his chest as he stared at the water lost in thought. He released a sigh before he leaned back, stretching his legs out as he looked up towards the sky. There was only a few weeks left before the Yule ball and while he was more comfortable actually dancing, he still hadn't gotten the nerve to ask Daphne to go as his date. The young male suddenly jerked, his magic flaring out to alert him of someone attempting to sneak up behind him. He jerked his wand from the holster strapped to his arm as a spell hit him in the back, sending him tumbling into the water. He attempted to stand up, slipping on the wet rocks, nearly sending him crashing back into the water. He reached up to push his bangs out of his face as he frantically looked around for any signs of whoever had hit him with the spell.

"What the hell?!" he whispered when he saw no one, slowly slipping his wand back into the holster. He managed to drag himself out of the water, letting himself drop onto the cold, hard ground with a groan. His wet robes stuck to his body as he laid there, taking several deep breaths in an attempt to calm his magic. After several cold, agonizing moments he managed to push himself to his feet, rubbing his arms in an attempt to warm them as he walked towards the tent.

"How was your-" Remus started, glancing up from his chess game against Sirius when Harry stepped into the tent. He stopped, staring at his godson wide eyed as he stood in the entry way dripping wet.

"Pup what the hell happened to you? It's cold as fuck out there and you decided to go for a swim?" Sirius gasped, standing up. He summoned a towel as he walked towards Harry, feeling bad as a violent shiver nearly sent him tumbling to the ground.

"Come on. Let's get you out of those wet clothes before you catch your death." Sirius muttered as he pulled the young boy along. Remus shared a concerned look with Tonks before watching the two wizards slip into Harry's room in the tent.

"I was lying by the lake when my magic flared out. I'd barely managed to pull my wand when someone hit me with a spell that caught me off guard. I fell into the water on accident." Harry muttered as he sat on his bed, letting Sirius towel dry his hair. He closed his eyes as he enjoyed the feeling, another shiver going through his body. They sat in silence for several minutes as he attempted to get warm.

"You ok? You got really pale all of the sudden." Sirius suddenly questioned, looking down at Harry as moved to grab the blanket that rested folded on the end of the bed. Izzy frowned as she snapped her fingers, magically adding more wood to the small stove that was used to heat up the cold room. She was worried for her small master, feeling his magic in the air, signaling something was wrong. It frustrated her to no end that he refused to wear his lord rings when he was outside the tent, worried about someone saying something or it ending up in the paper.

"I don't feel so good. I think…I just want to sleep." Harry muttered, shifting to lie down. His godfather only nodded as he covered him, waving his wand to lower the flame on the lantern. Harry gave a small hum as he curled up on his side, closing his eyes.

"Can…you let…mom and dad know…I'm going to be late?" he muttered as he drifted to sleep, his voice a low whisper. Sirius couldn't help the sad smile that appeared on his face for a moment before he silently slipped back into the main part of the tent.

"He say what he was thinking swimming in the lake during the middle of winter?" Tonks questioned with a frown on her face.

"He said that he was hit with some type of spell and he lost his balance. He's sleeping right now but said he was supposed to be meeting with Lucius and Narcissa. Figured one of you could send a Patronus or something to let them know he's going to be late? Figured let him sleep for a bit, then let him see if he thinks he'll be able to sit through their visit." Sirius questioned, sitting at the table. He frowned, not missing the look the two shared as he glared at the chess board. Remus sighed as he shook his head after Tonks had slipped out of the tent.

Malfoy Manor

Narcissa was silent as she sat in one of the chairs in the family library, reading through her book when one of the house elves popped in. The magical creature dropped into a low bow in front of her mistress.

"A Missy Tonks be here to see Mistress." The house elf squeaked. Narcissa couldn't help the sinking feeling in her stomach as she stood up, following her personal elf to the receiving room. Her niece stood near the floo, glancing around the room in silence.

"Is something wrong with Harry?" she questioned as she stepped in, carefully closing the door behind her. She didn't need one of the elves hearing that something was wrong with either of the boys and alerting Lucius while he was at the Ministry.

"We just wanted to let you know he's resting right now so he wasn't going to be able to make your lunch plans. But he still wants to visit with both of you today so if this afternoon was alright I can bring him to Diagon Alley for dinner or something." Tonks stated glancing at her aunt for a moment. It still amazed her to no end just how different Narcissa looked from both Bellatrix and her mother. Narcissa frowned, not failing to notice that Tonks didn't mention just what was wrong with Harry.

"That's fine. I can let Lucius know. But is there anything I can do to help? From what I've learned, Harry isn't the type to sleep during the day so that gives me a clue that something is wrong." She prodded, hoping to get more out of her niece.

"Everything is fine. Just wearing himself out with this stupid tournament. We just have to remember that just because according to magic he's considered an adult, he is still only fourteen years old." Tonks explained, shifting slightly. She knew that her visit would have instantly alerted her aunt that something was actually wrong, but she didn't want to worry the older witch if it was really just magical exhaustion. Tonks quickly grabbed a small handful of floo powder, exiting the manor before Narcissa could ask any more questions.

AFTERNOON

Narcissa stepped into the Leaky Cauldron, glancing around for her husband or son since she'd came straight from the Manor. She spotted Lucius sitting at one of the tables towards the back of the small pub that looked towards the public floos. She silently walked over, sitting down next to him.

"Still no sign of Harry? I figured he would get here before both of us." She stated, catching his attention. The Malfoy Lord sighed as he looked down at the pocket watch to check the time. He had been worrying about his youngest since he'd gotten the letter during lunch that they needed to push their visit back.

"I don't have the best feeling right now. What if something happened to him and they're not telling us?" she worried, absently pulling on her sleeve as she glanced between her husband and the floo.

"I'm sure if something was wrong they would have let us know by this point. He's probably just managed to wear himself out to the point of exhaustion and just needed some extra rest." Lucius attempted to reassure his wife.

"I'm sorry I was late." Harry suddenly stated behind them causing both of the Malfoys to jump. He sank down into the chair, lying his head on his arms. Narcissa shared a look with her husband before reaching out to touch his arm. His skin was warm to the touch.

"Harry if you're not feeling well you could have cancelled." Narcissa whispered, moving her hand to brush his bangs aside earning a small groan in response.

"I'm fine. Nothing to worry about." he muttered, pushing himself to sit up, gently shaking her hands off. Lucius frowned as he caught sight of just how pale his son was but chose not to saying anything. It didn't take much to figure that Harry didn't want to talk about whatever was wrong.

"Did you already order with Tom?" he finally questioned after several awkward minutes of silence.

"I'm really not that hungry. We had a late lunch today." Harry quickly lied. The thought of trying to eat made his stomach feel nauseous so he hoped he'd be able to get away without ordering anything. He pulled the papers of the Potter estate from his bag, hoping to distract his parents before they could ask any more questions. Lucius let the matter drop as he shifted around to sit closer to the boy as he began to explain the first estate in the packet. Harry nodded along as he pointed to each item that apparently belonged to one of the vacation homes the Potter's owned.

"How do you know what the condition of the home is? Is there something here that mentions it?" Harry finally questioned, worried about the conditions of any of the estates since neither he nor James Potter had managed to overlook them in the last several years.

"If you look on this second page it tells you any permanent damages that that home has gained over the years. However, normally each one has at least two house elves that are tasked with the day-to-day upkeep." Lucius explained, turning to the second page. He glanced it over for a moment as he searched for what he was looking for.

"See here. This one says that the wards were left partially damaged from an attack during the war. Plus some minor damage to the exterior wall on the north side." He continued, pointing to each issue. Harry managed to nod along even as his head felt stuffier. Lucius didn't fail to notice how he wasn't asking as many questions as he normally did, always seeming so interested in learning how to manage his titles. Harry slowly reached up, jerking his fingers through his bangs as he attempted to ease the building headache.

"I'm...I need to get a drink." he muttered, slowly pushing himself to his feet. He'd barely taken a step away from the table when he felt himself pitch forward. Narcissa gasped, quickly jerking her wand out to keep him from hitting the ground. She carefully eased him back into the chair, reaching forward to press her hand against his forehead.

"You're burning up baby." She whispered, seeing the cloudy and dazed look in his eyes as he watched her. Worry once again settled in her stomach as they closed, Harry falling forward. Lucius reached his hand out to stop his head from hitting in the table.

"He needs a healer. But if we take him to St. Mungo's Dumbledore will be notified since as far as their records show that's who is magical guardian is." Narcissa stated, looking at her husband worried. Lucius quickly cast a notice me not charm before easily picking Harry up out of the chair. Narcissa gathered the papers up, following him towards the apparition point.

"Call the family healer. I'd trust him a lot sooner than I'd trust any of the healers at St. Mungo's since we don't know who we can actually trust." Lucius explained. Once at the manor Lucius carried Harry towards the sitting room, already knowing his boy would panic if he woke up in an unknown location. Narcissa watched the father and son for a moment before slipping out to fire call their private healer. She knew she needed to let either Tonks or Remus know that they were back at the manor but a small part of her felt anger at the knowledge that they had allowed Harry out while he was clearly sick and hadn't had the thought to even tell them. After several moments off sitting there fighting herself she finally decided to let them know, figuring either way they would find out.

"Narcissa is everything alright? Harry should already be at the restaurant waiting for the both of you." Remus stated, stepping into view after several silent minutes.

"Harry is currently in the sitting room at Malfoy Manor after he nearly collapsed at the Leaky Cauldron. What in Merlin's name made either of you think letting him out in this state was a good idea?!" she demanded. A whine caught her attention, spotting the black grim like dog sitting near the tent entrance. She frowned for a moment before turning her attention back to the two adults she'd trusted her child with. They'd known just forcing Harry to accept them hadn't been an option but if he wasn't going to be taken care properly than perhaps they needed to rethink just who he was allowed to reside with.

"Now Lady Malfoy, please understand when Harry left here he was simply complaining about a small headache, nothing that would have caused either of us to worry. If something happened than he should have returned to Hogwarts." Remus attempted to object. Tonks didn't fail to notice the angered tone in her aunt's voice, fearing for Harry.

"If you'd permit us we can come and get Harry so that he can rest here." He suggested, only earning a glare from the worried mother.

"I highly doubt there is anything you can do for him that we can't Mr. Lupin. For now he is being checked by our family healer. And he will stay here for the night in his room to actually rest and I don't want to hear a single objection from either of you." She snapped, her pureblood mask slipping because of her anger. Padfoot growled as he walked over to sit between Remus and Tonks. His fur stood on end at the thought of Harry being forced to stay somewhere he wasn't comfortable.

"At least let one of us come over to calm him down if he starts to freak out." Tonks questioned, hoping to calm all three of the magic users down before things got even further out of hand. Narcissa was silent for several moments as she thought over the request before she simply nodded. She ended the call before standing up, waving her wand to clean the small amount of soot from her dress before venturing back to the family sitting room. Lucius was standing near the window with his arms crossed as he watched Harry. The boy was curled up on his side, his breathing sounding raspy as beads of sweat covered his forehead.

"If he was sick why didn't he cancelled?" Lucius questioned once she'd sat on the couch next to his head. She carefully brushed his blue and blonde bangs aside, attempting to sooth him with her magic.

"Maybe he was worried we would be angry if he did. Neither of us have given him much faith that we wouldn't be." She sighed, thinking about her actions when they'd originally found out the news. She'd been horrible to him, first by claiming it was all a joke than by trying to force him to be someone he wasn't. They'd been trying to turn him into another Draco when in all honest they'd really just needed him to be himself. Lucius glanced up when one of the house elves led their family healer into the room, pushing off the wall.

"Thank you for taking the time to visit on such short notice Mr. Dangler." He stated, pulling a pouch of galleons out.

"Of coarse Lord Malfoy. Lady Malfoy made it sound like it was an emergency and since I've served your family since you were a boy it was the least I could do." The older male stated, accepting the pouch. He slipped it into his bag before turning his attention to Harry. Lucius stayed silent for a while before slipping out of the room once Tonks and their dog arrived, opting to instead work on some papers he had in his office that needed to be done. He sighed as he sat in his chair, leaning back letting his mind wander. It still hurt slightly to think about the fact that apparently Marvolo was back, but he hadn't reached out. When he'd first lost his father, his godfather had been his rock but when he'd begun to worry more about that farce of a prophecy he'd pushed everyone around him away. Fear still coursed through him as he thought about the chance of Marvolo attempted to kill his son again before they got the chance to explain to him just what had happened.

"Enough of that. I need to worry about this stupid tournament and stuff going on in the Ministry." He muttered in annoyance. He'd barely pressed his quill to the parchment when an owl tapping on his window caught his attention. His eyes widen when he recognized it, instantly knowing it was the owl his father had gifted Marvolo shortly before his untimely death.

I hope everyone enjoyed the latest chapter. Harry was finally able to get a few things off his chest and get to spend a little time with his bio parents without the overwhelming guilt of betraying the parents that sacrificed for him.
