Luna ultimately decided to hold the first meeting of the newly reformed D.A. on Sunday, October 5th, 1997, at 10 P.M. Hogwarts time.

When the group had settled into the Room of Requirement and locked themselves in, Luna, Neville, and Ginny, being the leaders, stood in a row at the front of the room.

"Good evening, everyone, and welcome to the Reformation of the D.A. My name is Luna Lovegood, and I am joined by my dear friends Ginny Weasley and Neville Longbottom as the three leaders of this group while Harry and Hermione are away from Hogwarts on whatever mission they are on. I figured Sunday night would be a good time to start, since it's always a quiet time around Hogwarts and the time the staff will least suspect anyone of being up to something."

"We are good to start off simple," explained Neville, "We're going to start with stunning."

"We'll slowly but surely progress to more difficult spells and defenses," added Ginny.

"We will eventually need to invent new spells and defenses of our own creation so as to throw Death Eaters and Dark Witches and Wizards who have never seen the before off guard," finished Luna.

There was a muttering of interest at this.

"Wow!" piped up Ernie MacMillian, "I see now why you're in Ravenclaw Luna. I may have doubted you in the past, but I see now how truly intelligent you are. There could be no greater weapon for us, both offensively and defensively, than spells of our own making."

"But" interjected Padma Patil, "It's best to get our feet wet first before swimming in the deep end. I think Neville, Ginny, and Luna are quite right to start us off with review and practice of the basics."

"Would everyone please find himself or herself a partner?" instructed Luna simply.

Once everyone had paired up, Luna said, "I want one person in each pair to attempt to stun the other."

Many cries of "Stupefy!" were heard across the room.

To Ginny's and Luna's surprise, but not Neville's, one of the first people in the room to successfully stun his or her partner was Sally Anne Perks, who had stunned Seamus Finnigan on her very first attempt."

"WOW!" cried Luna and Ginny in surprise, "a newbie was the first to succeed. "

"Sally's success doesn't surprise me at all," said Neville warmly, "She has always been the second best in Defense Against the Dark Arts in my year behind only Harry, Because Sally is so shy and such an extreme loner, few people outside of teachers know anything about Sally and her strengths and weaknesses."

Sally's lips moved as if she wanted to say something, but no words came out. In the end, she settled for giving Neville a thumbs up.

Eventually they all succeeded in stunning their partners at least three times before the end of the meeting.

Neville, Ginny, and Luna closely observed the returning members from the previous iteration of the D.A. on the lookout for any noticeable change in them.

While it was newbie Sally had the highest number of successful stuns during the meeting with ten, Ernie MacMillan and Hannah Abbott tied for second having successfully stunned each other seven times.

Ernie was still as he always was: Pompous, confident, sure of himself, and proud.

However, Neville, Ginny, and Luna noticed a distinct change in Hannah.

"Hey, Hannah?" called out Neville.

"Yes, Neville?" replied Hannah.

"We noticed a difference in you compared to the last time the D.A. was around," said Neville matter of factly.

"Last time around," observed Ginny, "You did well and were a successful member of the D.A., but your attitude and approach seemed to be amongst the most casual in the group."

"Now,' piped up Luna, "You seem more focused and more locked in."

"Furthermore," added Neville, "You seem to have developed a steely determination about you. The looks of determination on your face were unlike anything we remember seeing from you last time."

"You also seem like a less casual and more serious person in general than you were two years ago, " observed Ginny.

"First," said Hannah seriously, "My motivations for joining last time were very different than my motivations for joining this time. Last time my motivations were all about academics. Umbitch refused to teach us a vital subject so I joined the D.A. in hopes of learning something that would be useful in my O.W.L. My parents had always stressed the importance of the O.W.L. exams to me."

At this, Hannah's voice got stuck in her throat and she suddenly stopped talking. Neville, Ginny, and Luna suddenly understood the change in Hannah.

There was a minute and a nanosecond of uncomfortable silence before Hannah resumed speaking.

"My mom was murdered last year," Hannah reminded them quietly, "She was killed by Death Eaters. I owe it to mom to attack the war against Voldemort and his Death Eaters with everything I've got. I got to fight. I've got to fight for mom's honor and for the future of our world. I have joined the reformed D.A. to learn to fight. My mom's murder has filled me with a burning determination."

Hannah was not the one only one to feel this way.

"I dedicate my study of Defense Against the Dark Arts to my late mom and dad, who were murdered by Voldemort in his first war," said Susan Bones fiercely.

"There is no worse tragedy than a child losing a parent," said Luna solemnly, "I know that all too well from having lost my own mom when I was nine, albeit her death was the result of a tragic accident."

"I don't know if I did the right thing in joining," mused Demelza, "I only stunned Susan three times."

"Don't be discouraged that I get you twice as many times as you got me," said Susan gently, trying to sound somewhat humble, "I've always been decent at stunning."

"It's not about how many times you got me," clarified Demelza, "I'm bummed out that I only did it three times myself."

"That's why Neville, Ginny, and Luna are having us start from the beginning on the basics," reasoned Susan, giving Demelza a comforting pat on the back, "We are all coming into this with various levels of capabilities, and we all need to master the basics before we get too ambitious. "

"On that note," declared Luna, "We will continue with stunning until everyone can successfully stun his or her partner ten times in a meeting. I also want everyone to take a different partner next meeting and meeting after that we'll be switching partners during the meeting."

"When will the next meeting be?" asked Parvati.

"I don't know yet, so keep your coins on your person at all times," replied Luna, "I going to try NOT to have a fixed date and time for these meetings."
