"While we're still here," piped up Sally, "I have some knowledge and ideas I would like to share with you three."
"But of course," smiled Neville, "That is precisely why you have been promoted to the status of being a leader."
"We're no longer a trio, we're now a quartet," Ginny told Sally warmly.
"So," said Luna dreamily, staring up at the ceiling, "Let's hear your ideas, Sally."
"So," began Sally seriously, "I assume that after everyone in the group has mastered stunning and disarming that we will getting into boggarts and patronuses."
Neville, Ginny, and Luna all nodded.
"We know," explained Sally, "That what finished off Boggarts is laughter. I recently discovered by accident that you can vanquish a boggart via your own internal laughter."
"How does that work?" wondered Neville.
"Instead of thinking about how to make your worst fear look funny," answered Sally, "You instead think of your own laughter. You think of the sound of your own laughter and concentrate on that sound. If you are hearing that sound in your head when a boggart approaches you, the boggart will collapse into dust."
"Are you certain that this is a general truth, " grilled Luna, "It could be that you defeated a particular boggart that was a special case."
"I see why you're in Ravenclaw, Luna," said Salley brightly, "After the first incident of my conquering a boggart by my own internal laughter, I summoned two more boggarts to me using the Summoning Charm Accio. I attempted to get rid of both of these boggarts that I had summoned to me using the internal laughter method and I was successful both times."
"Wow, Sally, " said Ginny kindly, "It really does look like you've made a new discovery."
"We should teach the reformed D.A. both methods of defeating boggarts," said Sally smartly, "The more ways you have to attack a situation, the better your odds of success."
"You've got the right idea, Sally," said Luna proudly, "You are already proving to invaluable as a leader of the newly reformed D.A.'
"Do you have any insights on patronuses?" inquired Ginny.
"I do," replied Sally, "In the case of patronuses, I haven't made any new discoveries or anything, but I would like to debunk some common misconceptions about patronuses to my fellow leaders."
"Have at it!" declared Neville encouragingly.
"Most basically, " started Sally simply, "A person's patronus can change forms over time."
"This is a fundamental fact of patronuses, and it would be more well known if Patronuses were taught more commonly and used more commonly," lamented Luna, "The Patronus Charm really should be taught as part of fifth year Defense Against the Dark Arts at the LATEST. While the average witch or wizard should not be expected to be able to produce a Talking Patronus, there is no reason why the average witch or wizard shouldn't be able to make a patronus."
"I wonder why the Patronus Charm isn't regularly taught at Hogwarts?" said Luna in a confused voice, "But, what are some of the other misconceptions about patronuses?"
"A major misconception about patronuses is the idea that they will always take the form of an animal," explained Sally in a crystal clear voice, "Depending on the witch or wizard who casts a patronus, it can take any form of anything that either represents something important to the witch or wizard who makes the patronus or fits his or her personality. Can you three guess what some of these forms might be?"
"Flowers?" guessed Ginny.
"Numbers, letters, or shapes?" listed Luna.
"Clouds, suns, rainbows, " nudged Neville.
"You guys are in midseason form," said Sally radiantly. "These are indeed some of the most common no animal patronus forms. It's important to understand that a patronus form can be anything. Now, the most important misconception about patronuses is the belief that you need to focus on a happy memory to cast a patronus. It doesn't actually have to be a memory. It can be a wish or a thought. The key is it has to be powerful enough. Something like the first time I rode a merry go round won't produce a patronus because it is not powerful enough."
"You've clearly got a good handle on things, Sally," smiled Ginny.
"I have a suggestion that may be controversial," said Sally softly, "Are you three willing to hear it?"
"We'd be fools if we weren't," said Luna bluntly as Neville and Ginny nodded fiercely.
"I have three, and eventually four people I would like to suggest as people who could be recruited to the newly reformed D.A., " piped up Sally, "They are in my year. However, the three of you may object to them because they are Slytherins."
"I absolutely would object to Malfoy, Crabbe, Goyle, Parkinson, and Bulstrode, " declared Neville at once.
"I'm not retarded enough to even think about inviting those people," smirked Sally, "The people in question are Tracey Davis, Daphne Greengrass, Astoria Greengrass, and eventually, Lily Moon. Lily is muggleborn and not at Hogwarts at this nanosecond. I am too shy to approach people myself to recruit them. I would like to request that Neville recruit Tracey, Ginny recruit Daphne, and Luna recruit Astoria."
"The Davises have always been a light family and the Greengrasses have historically been apolitical," Neville informed Ginny and Luna, "I know Tracey will accept at once. I think Daphne and Astoria can be convinced to join to fight for Tracey and Lily."
"Do the three of you agree to the recruiting plan I just devised?" asked Sally seriously.
"Yes," said Neville, Ginny, and Luna in unison.
"Good," said Sally, "having some good Slytherins in our corner could prove to be very beneficial. But I think we've had enough for tonight."
"I agree," said Ginny, yawning.
"We had a productive night," said Neville matter of factly, "Luna, when do you plan the next meeting?"
"Watch your coins," replied Luna.
