On the morning of Sunday, November 16th, 1997, Amycus Carrow and his sister Alecto were sitting in their office at 10 A.M. Hogwarts time sitting in black office chairs at their black mahogany desk to go over their lesson plans for the upcoming week when they heard a hard and aggressive knock on their door.

"Who is it?" demanded Amycus harshly.

"Draco Malfoy," said Draco in a loud and obnoxious voice, "Let me in, I have some important to tell you."

"Give me a second," said Alecto clearly, "I need to take my wand out so I can reapply the Privacy Charms on this room after I let you in."

"Understood," replied Draco simply.

Next nanosecond, Alecto retrieved her wand from her right hand pocket with her right hand. She then rose from her seat and proceeded to the door.

Alecto opened the door and allowed Draco to enter, then reshut the door and reapplied the Privacy Charms needed to ensure that sight and sound could not leave the room.

"Draco, please sit down," instructed Alecto, pointing to an unused chair to her right. (Amycus was seated on her left.)

Draco sat, and Amycus and Alecto both eyed him intently.

"What do you wish to share with us, Draco?"

"You two need to be made aware that there is a secret room at Hogwarts where the filth who support mudbloods, muggles, and blood traitors might hide out," said Draco smugly as he hoped to win favor with the Carrows.

"Where is this room?" asked Amycus in a businesslike voice.

"It is on the seventh floor in the left corridor. It has a hidden entrance opposite the tapestry depicting the attempt of Barnabas the Barmy to teach trolls ballet," explained Draco in a crystal clear voice, "But you have to ask the room for what you need."

"How does that work?" inquired Alecto.

"You have to walk past three times telling asking for you need in your own head," explained Draco, talking slowly and deliberately to ensure the Carrows would understand completely, "In your case, you need to ask it to become the room where the Carrows opposition is hiding."

"If we do have opposition that is hiding from us up there," said Amycus with a smirk, "We will catch them."

"And if we can't find the room," added Alecto, "We will know no one is opposing us at Hogwarts."

"Draco," said Amycus matter of factly, "You may go now. Sis and I have some investigating to do."

"And we are doing it immediately," declared Alecto.

Next nanosecond, Amycus, Draco, and Alecto rose from their seats and headed towards the door.

Alecto held it open for Draco, and the Carrows waited three minutes and three nanoseconds by the door before heading out themselves to give Draco time to go away. It would look too suspicious if he was following them everywhere.

They then proceeded up to the seventh floor.

They walked past the wall three times thinking to themselves, "We need the room where our opposition is hiding."

After the third time, they heard a weird noise they'd never heard before, but no door appeared.

At this, the Carrows exchanged relived looks.

"So," reasoned Amycus, "That weird noise proves that Draco was telling us the truth about the room's existence."

"And," concluded Alecto, "The fact we are not accessing a room right now proves there is no opposition to us currently at Hogwarts. This is excellent news. We have a great foothold now."

"There being no mudbloods at Hogwarts this year is an excellent start," said Amycus fiercely, "The Dark Lord's plan is working."

"Well," said Alecto simply, "I guess we can return to our office and continue with planning out this week's lesson plans."

"Alecto," said Amycus firmly, "We will check once a week to see if any opposition to us has formed and created a hideout in the Room of Requirement. In the meantime, I want to you praise and support Draco in your classes every chance you get, and I will do the same."

"Absolutely," promised Alecto, "Draco is the best student we have. He's committed to the Dark Lord's future of a pureblood society. "

"Indeed," replied Amycus, "And yes, we can return to our office now to plan out the week's lessons."

But, unbeknown to them, the Carrows had been confounded.

Draco did not know as much about the Room of Requirement as he thought he did, especially with regard to the room's details and idiosyncrasies.

The truth was that if a person or group of people who was opposed to the Carrows or did not support them had already set up shop in the Room of Requirement and had asked it not to reveal itself to the Carrows or their supporters, it would obey the first person's orders."

Neville had asked the Room of Requirement to keep out Snape, the Carrows, and any supporters thereof. This would hold as long as either he or someone he had granted permission to be in the room remained there.

The plan hatched by Neville and Luna had Lily remain in the Room of Requirement as its room guardian was paying off.

Lily had been very careful never to leave the room.

While Lily spent most of her time practicing magic, she made sure to give herself frequent reminders of why she was confined to that room and why she needed to stay there. By constantly reenforcing this with herself, she not only avoided any temptation to leave the room, but also made sure she didn't forget why she was there and slip up out of forgetfulness.

Lily's presence in the Room of Requirement was the reason the Carrows could not access it.

But they didn't know this. They had no previous knowledge of the room's existence at all, and Draco's explanations combined with the weird noise and lack of a door for them made them sure they had nothing to worry about.

Meanwhile, Lily, in her solitude, had heard the same weird noise the Carrows had. She knew this meant that someone had tried to access the room they did not want to but couldn't. This proved to Lily that the room was working for them the way it should, and she resolved to tell Neville, Luna, Ginny, and Sally at the D.A. meeting in the Room of Requirement.

Draco's knowledge of the room was incomplete and the Carrows bought it, giving them a false sense of security.

For the reformed D.A. and its leaders Neville, Luna, Ginny, and Sally, their room guardian had kept their room safe.

Lily was doing her job.
