The Tennysons checked in to a fancy hotel in New York City. "Wow, this hotel has everything! Indoor pool, full day spa..." Gwen marveled at the hostel.
"Wow! That sounds amazing!" Uraraka said, desperately wishing she could try such commodities.
"Yeah! I'd love to see what they have at that spa!" Hagakure agreed.
"I would personally suggest a seaweed wrap. As well as a deep tissue massage." Yaoyorozu said.
"And I wouldn't mind hanging out by the pool. And seeing all the hot babes there..." Mineta added, drooling a bit, before being smacked Asui's tongue.
"Awesome that Max shelled out the cash for this! I bet they could use it after probably AT LEAST a week of sleeping in an RV or tent." Sero praised the eldest Tennyson.
"Let's hope it has a nice buffet, too, to get rid of the taste of any bugs or octopus Max tried feeding them." Kaminari said, gagging at the memory of Max's idea of "food".
"Now, don't get used to it, it's only for one night." Max told his grandkids.
Ben, who was bored, suddenly saw a Sumo Slammers-brand kiosk installed in the mall. "Woah, the new Sumo Slammer video game's in there!" He exclaimed, running towards the entrance, only to be stopped by a guard.
"They're debuting a video game in a hotel? A big, fancy, four star hotel at that? Seems like a weird choice to me. Not gonna get much of a big turnout there." Kirishima questioned.
"Actually, I believe this may be a hotel that has a built-in mall. I've been on many business trips with my brother or parents and been to a number of four and five star hotels, many of which have such commodities." Iida explained.
"Oh, right. I almost forgot you're super rich, too, Iida." Uraraka said with a pout, realizing it wasn't just Yaoyorozu whose lifestyle was so much more lavish than hers.
"Even so, most hotels would prefer if you checked in to go to hang around their facilities even now. And back then, I believe it was loitering to hang around inside a hotel without buying a room. Which, at minimum, would be around ninety US dollars a night. Or 13,772 yen." All Might informed them.
"Yikes. Yeah, I kinda doubt too many parents would shell out that kind of cash just for their kid to see a video game early." Jiro said.
"Pass?" The guard asked.
Ben fumbled around in his pockets. "Uh, must've left it inside. I'm one of the game pros testing out the system!" The boy tried to lie to get in.
"VIPs only." The guard told him.
"Then that's EVEN LESS people that are gonna see that game! And the internet was barely a thing back then! It would have to get popular from word of mouth!" Sato complained.
"Yeah, whoever set this up either didn't do a good job or might actually WANT this to fail for some reason. Not very business savvy." Ojiro agreed.
"Or they're seriously misjudging their target demographic." Shoji added.
Ben dropped the act and slumped back on over to Gwen and Max. "I know what you're thinking, so no sneaking back in there." His grandfather warned him.
"I won't!" Ben insisted. ("He's totally gonna." All the students said at once.)
However, the boy waited for them to leave and smugly turned on the Omnitrix. (A wave of facepalms washed over the more responsible members of the group.)
An invisible Ghostfreak flew up next to the guard. "But he will!" The Ectonurite declared before he flew past the confused guard to where the game was being held.
Iida let out a giant sigh at this. "I can't anymore with this little delinquent..." He said, pinching the bridge of his nose.
"Well, I mean- TECHNICALLY, Ben didn't sneak in." Ashido said with a giggle.
"Loopholes. A parent's worst enemy." Present Mic said with a chuckle, which was shared by All Might and Midnight.
While Aizawa could only groan in exasperation. "And if you students go looking for loopholes like those to disobey my orders, I'll have you expelled and make sure you can't rejoin UA." The narcoleptic teacher warned.
"Yes, sensei!" The students said fearfully.
"The ultimate sneaky peak... for the ghost with the most freak!" Ghostfreak declared yet again, picking up the controller and starting to play.
At an elevator, Max paused before pressing the 'up' button. He then looked behind him, noticing the absence of one of his charges. "Ben?" He called for his grandson.
"You know, I always thought it was mean to put your kids on a leash. But Ben's making it seem like a good idea." Asui said.
"That little boy could use some discipline~" Midnight declared, cracking her flogger-style whip.
Maverick then popped up behind the male teachers. "Why do you guys let her work with children, again?" He whispered.
Aizawa sighed yet again. "Because Nezu is an unstable madman." He whispered back.
"M-maybe it might be a good idea to be more strict with Ben, but I wouldn't go THAT far." Midoriya said nervously, believing physical punishments are the wrong way to go... Mostly because of constantly dealing with the result of such a punishment, that being Bakugo.
[HI SCORE 500,000] flashed on the game's screen. "Yes! New high score!" Ben cheered loudly.
But suddenly, the guard walked up to Ben and grabbed his shoulder. "What do ya got to say for yourself, kid?" He demanded.
"Uhh, 'game over'?" The boy said nervously.
"Busted!" The Bakusquad, minus Bakugo himself, all said together.
Ben, Gwen, and Max were being kicked out of the hotel, the guard throwing their luggage to the ground in front of them. "And never come back!" He snapped at them.
"Jeez, that's a bit extreme, isn't it?" Koda squeaked out.
"Indeed. I could certainly see some form of penalty, such as JUST Ben being banned from the mall facility, but to kick out the entire family feels far too severe." Tokoyami agreed.
"And does some random mall security guard even have the authority to kick them out of the whole hotel?" Dark Shadow questioned.
"Not to mention, if the old man had anything fragile in that suitcase and Triple B broke it, they'd have that hotel's ass in lawsuits." Bakugo added.
"Triple B?" Midoriya asked.
"Buff Bald Bastard." The explosive boy explained.
Max turned and glared at Ben. "I told you not to sneak back in there." He told his grandson.
"Well if you want to get all technical about it..." The boy tried to make an excuse for himself.
However, Gwen was having none of it, quickly growing angry at her cousin. "I never even got a chance to take a shower, in a real shower for the first time all summer! Plus they had a spa. A spa! Nice going, doofus." She snapped at the Omnitrix-wielder.
"Mademoiselle Gwen is quite justified here. Being robbed of a chance to be rejuvenated and allowed to shine at your brightest is truly devastating." Aoyama said with his deepest sympathies.
"They haven't showered since this vacation started? That's pretty unsanitary." Todoroki said, slightly disgusted.
"RV's such as Max's have bathrooms and showers in them, Young Todoroki. But, they are rather small and uncomfortable, even for a child of their size. Not to mention, you have to be quick to avoid using up all the water. So, while it will do in a pinch, it's hardly the ideal experience." All Might said, remembering when he and Dave took an RV trip throughout the states over one of his Summers abroad. He could barely fit in that tiny shower...
In the Rustbucket, Max was scolding Ben. "How do you expect me to trust you if you keep misusing the watch?" He asked the boy.
"Excuse me, I used it 100 times for good! Why can't I use it just once for me?" Ben complained.
"It's not how many times you use it Ben, it's how you use it!" Max tried to reason with his grandson.
"Exactly. It's a powerful device that could cause massive damage, but he still continues to use it as a child would." Aizawa said.
"And this is one of the reasons we have hero licenses, students, so people CAN'T just go around using their Quirks willy-nilly. Even us Pros aren't allowed to use our Quirks in the way Ben is. Like, I can't just go to a movie theater and use my Quirk to knock out the ticket inspector to get into whatever movie I want." Midnight told the students, who responded quickly with "Yes, ma'am!".
"You mean, you can't do that AGAIN." Aizawa said, giving the female teacher a side eye.
"It's also an important lesson that being heroes does not entitle us to whatever we want. We are not high members of society that get to ignore the rules. We are still civilians and civil servants and should act like such." Iida agreed with his teachers.
"Alright, we get it! The licenses won't let us get away with everything! Stop rubbing it in!" Mineta complained, lamenting that a hero license won't give him free license to grope any girl he wants.
"It was no big deal." Ben insisted.
"-To you. And that's all you care about! So, no more 'Sumo Slammers' stuff for 2 weeks! No comics, no trading cards, no-!" The elder Tennyson brought the hammer down.
"-Fair!" The younger Tennyson complained yet again.
"Sometimes life's not fair." Asui said, mimicking what she'd say to her siblings when she had to put one of them in time-out.
"I'd actually say it's quite fair. Actions have consequences. That's something a child Ben's age should certainly know by now." Yaoyorozu said.
"Neither is getting booted from a 4-star hotel I already paid for!" Max snapped.
"Fine, take it out my allowance!" Ben dismissed.
Several members of the audience scoffed at this. "Unless he gets like 50 bucks a week for allowance, I don't see that paying him off any time soon." Hagakure said.
"You don't get an allowance..." Gwen told him.
"Stay out of this!" Both Tennyson men snapped at her, causing her to silently lower in her chair.
"Harsh. She was just making a point." Ashido said with a pout.
"It's a discussion of two men, Mina! No one should interfere in such a clash of wills!" Kirishima declared, holding up a clenched fist.
The rest of the Bakusquad sweatdropped at this. "Dude, not everything is a manly clash of wills. It's not that deep." Kaminari said awkwardly.
"This is my vacation, too! You can't always tell me what to do. You're not my dad." Ben snapped.
The students gasped in horror at this. "Ben... That is so NOT rockin'." Jiro said in disbelief.
In the roughly year they'd been with Aizawa, they'd all grown to consider Aizawa like a second father to them. A few of them (the girls and the Bakusquad, minus Bakugo) have even taken to calling him "Dadzawa" on occasion, whenever they were POSITIVE he wasn't around to hear it. And none of them could imagine saying something like that to him... Well, except one.
"Ben, you have NO idea how much you probably just hurt him." Uraraka said, remembering the time Mineta said such a thing to their teacher after he had caught the tiny perv trying to peek under Hagakure's skirt. It was very brief, but she saw the hurt look on Aizawa's face, before it IMMEDIATELY turned to one of anger as Mineta was trapped in a capture scarf cocoon for the rest of the day.
"He may not be your dad, but he loves you like I'm sure your father does. And you just stomped on that love." All Might said sadly.
"Not to mention, he's his guardian for the whole Summer, so he's in charge of you. So it's probably in your best interest to listen." Todoroki added.
Max was understandably stunned at this. "Well, if I was, I..." He began, before calming down. "Look I'm going back to the hotel and see if I can get at least some of my money back. I'll be back in a few minutes." He told the children.
"Don't hurry!" Ben said as he walked past him to the back of the RV, closing the curtains.
"He'll be fine." She told Max before he left.
However, Gwen could hear Ben throwing things on the ground. "Not fair! NOT FAIR! TOTALLY NOT FAIR!" The boy ranted as he went on his destruction spree.
"Oh, yeah. That's REAL fine." Present Mic said sarcastically.
"I mean, he's still only ten-years-old. Most of us were probably throwing tantrums like that at that age." Sero admitted. "Bakugo still does." The triangle-mouthed boy added.
"You wanna go, Tape Arms?! I'll strangle you with your own tape!" Bakugo snapped, Uraraka holding her boyfriend back for dear life, even having turned him weightless to make it POSSIBLE to restrain him.
"See?" Cellophane asked, pointing to the angry pomeranian.
"Glad to see you're handling things so maturely." Gwen said sarcastically. Ben then opened the curtains, glaring at her and walking out the door. "Where do you think you're going?" She demanded.
"Where does it look like? Out!" Ben snapped.
"Benjamin Kirby Tennyson! You have been grounded! That means you are banned from going anywhere without your grandfather!" Iida scolded, chopping his arms rapidly.
"I mean, we heard Max, he was only grounded from Sumo Slammer stuff." Ashido pointed out.
"Still, he should let his grandpa know where he is going before he goes anywhere." Koda said.
"And he should know that, after his behavior, surely he wouldn't get permission to go wherever he wanted." Shoji countered, giving the boy on-screen a glare.
The hosts looked at each other in concern. Their audience's opinion of Ben was quickly going downhill. And they haven't even gotten to the bad stuff yet!
"Get back here!" She ordered.
"Sorry, I don't speak 'dweeb'." He huffed as he continued to storm off.
"You're going to be so grounded!" Gwen tried to reason with him.
She followed her cousin to an arcade in the city, where she stared up at its sign: "Total Zone". Gwen sighed at this. "Next summer, I'm going to sleepaway camp..." She grumbled.
"That's not a bad idea. I've gone to a few camps like that in my time. I liked all the sports and outdoor activities. That's where I learned to climb things with my tail." Ojiro said.
"And I was always quite a fan of the arts and crafts. I almost made them as dazzling as myself~" Aoyama declared, striking a flashy pose.
"Yeah. I learned a lot of my baking there, too." Sato said.
"We have to go next year!" All the girls insisted immediately after Sato said that.
Inside, Ben saw many people his age playing on arcade machines. Ben booted up a baseball-batting game. As the digital pitcher threw the ball, the screen immediately flashed "Game Over".
"'Game Over'? It just started!" Ben insisted, turning to a nearby employee. "This thing ate my tokens!" He informed him.
"Read the sign, kid. It says 'play at your own risk'..." He dismissed the boy and walked away.
"What?! But he spent good money to play these games! That's not right!" Uraraka said with a pout.
"Arcades like this in America are WIDELY known as scams and rip-offs. There's SOME that are legit, but you're generally better off avoiding them." Anemone informed them.
"Such insidious business." Tokoyami said.
"Yeah! Corporate greed is the worst!" Dark Shadow agreed.
"Then why are they allowed to run if they're well-known scams?" Midoriya asked.
"Just like casinos. No one's forcing you to put your money in and use them. It's a choice you make and can stop making at any time. Play at your own risk, like that guy said. But thankfully, the cost of machines and repairs, rent, electricity use and the fact consoles and streaming are so mainstream now, arcades have virtually died out." Maverick stated.
"Well, that's great for future generations, but it sucks right now for Ben." Kaminari said.
"Tch. You're acting like the little punk doesn't deserve it." Bakugo scoffed.
"This place is a ripoff, you know that?" Ben snapped at the boy as another kid with long dark hair watched.
"You're right. The games here stink." The new kid chimed in.
"Then why are you hanging around here?" Hagakure asked.
"Maybe he's just trying to make some new friends. That's one of the reasons I always liked going to arcades and karaoke." Sato suggested.
"I'm getting a bad feeling about this kid." Aizawa said.
"Oh, come on, Aizawa. He's just a kid, you even said it. How much trouble could he be?" All Might asked, the crowd missing, once again, how much the hosts were trying to stifle their laughter.
"Yeah, but not as bad as his breath! MAJOR case of 'sewer mouth'!" Ben said jokingly, waving a hand in front of his face.
The dark-haired kid chuckled at this. "You're funny! Here, you owe me one." The kid offered, laying his hand on a machine. Suddenly, electricity shot out from his hand and the machine spewed out a mountain of gold tokens.
Everyone was shocked at this. "WHAT!?" The students all cried out at once.
"I thought you two said there AREN'T Quirks in this world! But this kid has one!" Midoriya said in shock.
The two hosts looked at each other uncertainly. "Should we tell them?" Maverick asked.
"If we don't, they'll be waiting around for season 3 of Alien Force. That will take forever." Anemone said.
At that moment, one of Present Mic's cards glowed, this time a purple color. "Purple, huh? That's new." The radio host hero said, before clearing his throat. "Kevin Levin! A human/alien hybrid! In this case, he is an Osmosian, a species capable of empowering themselves by absorbing energy and matter to use how they see fit." Present Mic announced.
The group was shocked at this. "There are human/alien hybrids running around?" Uraraka asked in shock.
"So that means humans can get it on with these aliens. And that there must be some sexy alien women out there." Mineta said, drooling a bit, before once again being smacked by Asui's tongue.
"Amazing. So there are hybrids with alien powers running around, but that look humans. Maybe such a thing even happened in our world? This could be the precursor to Quirks!" Midoriya theorized, writing the idea down fast enough for the pencil to start smoking.
"Have you all forgotten this delinquent is using his powers to destroy and steal this arcade's property?!" Iida demanded.
"Yeah, but at least he's willing to share them with Ben. And maybe others. They DID just show the place is kind of a rip-off." Ashido admitted.
"Two wrongs don't make a right, students. If you don't like how an establishment treats you, you have the right leave and not give them any more of your patronage. You DON'T have the right to vandalize and steal from them." Midnight said seriously.
"Woah, how'd you do that?!" Ben asked in amazement.
"I got some skills..." The dark-haired boy said simply.
Ben excitedly dug in to the mountain, just as Gwen found him. "We can't take those, they're not ours!" She told her cousin.
"They are now!" Ben declared as he stood up with a small pile of tokens in his hands.
"Okay, Ben! Sneaking back into a video game showing is one thing, but now you're stealing! That's going too far!" Asui snapped.
"I mean, he's going to use them in the arcade, so they're getting them back. It's not like he can use them outside of the arcade. So, technically, not stealing." Maverick reasoned.
"But he didn't pay money or win games to EARN those coins! He didn't get them through the proper means! This is damaging the flow of commerce!" Yaoyorozu insisted.
"And the arcade is damaging the flow of commerce by ripping people off. I really don't think there's any other way to say 'fuck this place, we don't care what they do to it'." Maverick dismissed. The cast didn't like the chaotic host's disregard to this crime, minor as it was, but decided to drop it.
He then looked to the kid. "Thanks! I'm Ben." He introduced himself.
"Kevin." The new kid introduced himself as well.
"Wanna play some air hockey?" Ben offered.
But just then, Kevin spotted two thuggish kids behind Ben and Gwen. "Nah, I gotta bail." He said as he walked off in the other direction.
"Now THOSE kids look like trouble." Present Mic said in concern.
"So weird to see kids around our age, probably even younger, acting like thugs." Jiro admitted.
"Everywhere is bound to have some bad eggs. We just don't usually see them when we're not looking for them." Ashido said.
"And they seem to have some business with Kevin. I can only imagine what he's done to make them target him." Todoroki wondered.
"He's total trouble." Gwen said judgingly.
"He seemed OK to me." Ben defended his new friend.
The two thuggish kids walked forward, bumping Ben and Gwen aside. (A few muttered "rude", but said nothing to avoid ruining the tension of the moment.)
As they followed Kevin, a half-bald kid and a strong-armed kid blocked Kevin's way, surprising him. "Long time, no see. Where you going, freak? Home to recharge your batteries?" The half-bald kid taunted.
The whole group gasped at this, several of them wincing when they realized what was happening. "They're targeting him because of his powers." Sero realized.
"Quirk discrimination." Shoji said darkly, remembering how he was mistreated because of how his Quirk made him look.
"I heard that was pretty common in the early days on Quirks. Since not everyone knows about aliens in this world, that means they're really uncommon. Which probably means hybrids are EVEN LESS common. So, yeah. Hybrids are probably seen as freaks and mistreated. That must be rough." Ojiro said sympathetically.
"Poor Kevin. He's a little delinquent, but he doesn't deserve to get beat up for no reason." Hagakure said, hugging Ojiro tightly for comfort as he held her close.
Kevin backed up, where the two behind him each grabbed one of his arms.
Ben stepped forward. "Need some help?" He asked Kevin.
"Heh, he's gonna need a lot more than you." The strong-armed kid laughed, knocking Ben backward. "Now beat it!" He snapped.
"Ben, you're heart's in the right place, but I thought you already learned your lesson on taking on multiple guys that are bigger than you." Kaminari groaned.
"And that's Kaminari admitting that, so you KNOW it's dumb." Mineta said.
'Oh, come on, Mineta! Jiro's already messing with me enough, I don't need you joining in! I thought we were best buds!" The electric Quirk user complained.
"You've got a watch that gives you superpowers, dumbass! Turn into Wildmutt and maul them to death!" Bakugo snapped.
"Kacchan! They're just kids!" Uraraka scolded her boyfriend.
"Well, right now, they're acting like villains! That gas mask freak at the training camp was a teen like us, but he still got his ass kicked and thrown in jail!" The explosive boy countered.
"This is certainly a delicate situation. Pros don't usually handle civil disturbances like this, but it would be rather negligent not to intervene." All Might admitted.
"Meddling, even when you don't have to, is the essence of being a hero. Right, All Might?" Midoriya asked, All Might smiling proudly and nodding.
"I've got some skills too..." Ben muttered as he got up.
"Ben, don't!" Gwen told him.
"Gwen, what the heck?! He can't just let someone get beat up!" Sato exclaimed.
"But, he just committed a crime. He's pretty much a villain now, right?" Kirishima asked.
"Jesus, do misdemeanors not exist in Japan?! You're acting like petty theft is the same is first degree assault! Which is what's about to happen!" Maverick exclaimed.
Aizawa sighed. "I hate to admit it, but Maverick is right on this. It's our duty to save whoever we can, even villains. They can't be allowed to beat him just because he committed a crime. I still wouldn't say to go as far as Bakugo suggests, but he should intervene with one of his aliens. I'd personally suggest either Four Arms or Diamondhead, as they're the largest and most imposing, making them the best to establish authority." The narcoleptic teacher admitted. "Kevin's crimes should still be addressed, but that can wait until after the situation has de-escalated." He added.
Ben ran around a corner and slammed the Omnitrix.
The Omnitrix started to merge into Ben's arm as his face was shown, his eyes closed. It then zoomed in on his left eyes, from which a stripe emerged across his face. His skin then turned blue as his form altered, the eye turning green with no visible pupil or iris. His legs were then shown, covered in a green glow, becoming longer and more slender, the glow dissipating to show two feet, each atop a black ball. It panned up the body to show a slender figure with long arms with razor-sharp claws and a long, striped tail. The figure then spun to show reveal XLR8's face, his mask coming down over it, before he finally stood in all his glory. [1]
"Ooh, XLR8's transformation is pretty cool!" Ashido marvelled.
"And it doesn't look like the most painful experience ever." Asui added.
"I do enjoy seeing the Kineceleran, but I'm not sure he's the best for de-escalating the situation with authority as Mr. Aizawa said." Iida noted.
"That's what the supersonic wedgies are for." Kaminari said, reminding them of how XLR8 handled Cash and JT.
"So, how's the hangout? Still trashed like I left it for you?" Kevin asked smugly.
"So, he vandalized their hideout. That's another crime for him to answer for. And a more serious one, at that." Yaoyorozu said.
"I won't condone it, but it's possible it was simply an accident with his powers, in retaliation for a previous attack or, most justifiably, self-defense if they attempted to attack him before." Midnight reasoned.
"Yeah, and you're gonna pay! You can't take us all alone, freak!" The strong-armed kid declared. (Shoji flinched a bit at that declaration, but said nothing.)
"But I can!" XLR8 declared as everyone turned to look at him in shock...
... But then, the half-bald kid laughed at XLR8. "Little early for Halloween, dude, isn't it?" He taunted the Kineceleran.
"How is that a halloween costume?" Koda asked.
"Yeah, no human should have a body structure for a costume like that." Dark Shadow agreed.
"The closest I could possibly think of is someone with a hunchback or scoliosis." Tokoyami said.
XLR8 sped over to them and ran around, creating a tornado that lifted up the strong-armed kid, causing him to shriek. XLR8 then stopped spinning and whipped him away with his tail as he fell back down, disappearing in a blur.
"Ooh! That's gotta hurt!" Mineta exclaimed.
"Right. I almost forgot XLR8 can create tornadoes by running in circles. We haven't seen that since the Krakken. It could certainly be useful in a lot of combat scenarios, although using it against normal street criminals, especially children, seems a bit too extreme." Midoriya admitted.
"That's one of the problems with only seeing two or three aliens out of ten per viewing, especially with lots of spaces in between. You forget what some of them can do." Uraraka admitted.
"Maybe everyone here should get little flashcards to remember what these guys can do." Present Mic suggested.
"Where'd he go-?" The half-bald kid asked, before suddenly going silent.
Kevin and the two holding him turned around, seeing the half-bald kid had disappeared behind them. Another was picked off and they were all rushed over to where the strong-armed kid fell.
As the last kid let go of Kevin and backed up, XLR8 appeared behind him and lifted his mask. "Trick or treat!" He declared to spook the kid. And he was successful, as the kid ran away screaming.
It was a bit chilling for everyone (minus the hosts) as XLR8 picked off the thugs, one by one. By the end, the students (all except Bakugo and Todoroki) couldn't help but jump as XLR8 jumpscared the final kid. "Holy crap! I never realized just how scary speed Quirks could be until now!" Kaminari cried out.
"Indeed. If this atmosphere were any darker, one would believe it to be a horror movie. Such brutality, no panache." Aoyama said dramatically.
"He thinks that's brutal, he's lucky we're not showing them the Carnitrix." Maverick whispered to his co-host, who nodded.
XLR8 waved to Kevin and zoomed away, to which Kevin smiled.
Outside the arcade, Gwen confronted her cousin. "I can't believe you went alien!" She snapped at the shorter Tennyson.
"He saved someone who needed help! You know, what heroes do!?" Sato exclaimed.
"Right?! When he misuses his powers, she always tells him 'you're supposed to use your powers to help people!' Now that he did, she's STILL mad?! Jeez!" Hagakure ranted.
"He helped me, so I helped him. You wouldn't get it! And neither would Grandpa. THAT'S the problem!" Ben insisted.
"Huh? I don't get it." Ashido said.
"Camaraderie." Tokoyami realized.
"What? Everyone asked him.
"Since Ben acquired the Omnitrix, he's fundamentally different than everyone around him, having powers that even he can't fully comprehend, let alone anyone else. And, he's taken it upon himself to use that power for the sake of others, so he has to learn what he's doing insanely fast to ensure everyone's safety. He's trying to speedrun a mastery of his powers while no one else up to now has powers anything like his. So no one truly understands how he feels as he tries to do the right thing, so they don't understand when he uses the watch to try and do things he enjoys to relieve stress and anxiety. Yet now, he's found someone else with powers, who has shown him kindness for no reason and given him something he desired, allowing him to enjoy himself and show him the possibilities of using his powers in the way he wishes to, rather than how he NEEDS to. And thus, Ben felt a sense of kinship towards him, both as another who has powers and shown him what he can be if he uses his powers however he wants." The bird-headed boy explained.
"Or, in other words: he just like me, for real!" Dark Shadow elaborated.
Everyone was surprised at the analysis given by the normally stoic and quiet bird boy of the class. "Very astute, Tokoyami. Well done. Although, I wouldn't say Dark Shadow's statement matches perfectly with your description, I suppose it does fit the overall message." Midnight praised.
Kevin then joined them. "You see what that speed guy did to those losers?!" He asked.
"Yeah! Dude's name is XLR8! In fact, we're pretty tight." Ben informed him.
The less serious of the students (all except Bakugo and Todoroki) and the teachers (minus Aizawa) all chuckled at this. "That's certainly one way to put it!" Ojiro said.
"Yeah, they're so tight, they're practically the same person!" Present Mic declared, getting a wave of laughter from the group.
"Cool! Hey, want a tour of New York?" Kevin offered.
"Hey, that's not a bad offer." Mineta admitted.
"Or it WOULDN'T BE, if Ben could stay and accept the tour, but he SHOULD be getting back now." Asui said.
"Oh, yeah. Max is probably back by now. And if he finds them gone, he's TOTALLY gonna pop a vein." Jiro agreed.
"You keep Grandpa waiting any longer, he's going to pop another gasket! We gotta go? Like now, Ben!" Gwen insisted.
"Don't you mean you have to go?" Ben brushed her off.
Gwen was hesitant for a moment, before giving up. "...You're on your own." She said and walked away.
"Good, that's the way I want it!" Ben snapped.
"Ben, I know you two don't get along, but she's your family. Don't push her away. Or your grandfather." Koda softly urged the boy.
"The kid's not gonna listen, he's too pissed. He needs time to calm himself down and get his shit together." Bakugo said.
"That would be all well and good, if he didn't have to be back to the RV like Tsu had said." Yaoyorozu reminded him.
The two boys walked through the city. "So, how'd you get your power?" Ben asked.
"I was born with it! I'm like an energy sponge. Motors, air conditioners, lights, batteries, whatever!" Kevin explained. "Soak it up, then dish it out when I have to... or want to." The dark-haired boy declared.
"So, basically me. But I bet I'm better at it." Kaminari boasted.
"Trust me, you're not. Electricity is just the only source of energy he's had access to in order to absorb. He CAN absorb more than that." Anemone told them. "And that's where the trouble start." She said quietly, waiting to drop that tidbit of information later.
"Cool!" Ben said in amazement.
"Come on! I'll show you where I live!" Kevin offered.
"I'm certainly curious about the home that produced a kid like THIS." Aizawa said harshly.
"Yeah, you wish that's what you were seeing." Maverick muttered, too quiet to hear.
Gwen got back to the Rustbucket, where a very angry Max was waiting for her. "Where's Ben?" He demanded.
"Hehe, yeah, about that..." Gwen said nervously.
"Well, looks like he hasn't calmed down, either." Hagakure said nervously.
"After what Ben said to him, can you blame him?" Ojiro asked.
"Not to mention, he came back to find his grandchildren gone, which had to be stressful at first, the extremely aggravating, as Ben left even after he was punished." All Might added.
The boys arrived at an abandoned subway station. A few TVs and game consoles sat on the floor, an ATM sat next to the abandoned ticket booth and a tattered Sumo Slammers poster hung on the wall.
"What are they doing in an old subway tunnel? I thought he was showing Ben where he lives?" Uraraka asked.
"Maybe it's a shortcut?" Sero suggested.
"Unless you're taking the train, a subway isn't a shortcut anywhere. There's no reason for them to go down there unless there's something down there." Midnight said.
And then, the boys finally reached the station and the furniture within, a look of horrified realization coming to their faces. "He lives there. He and his family must be homeless." Iida said in horror.
"I don't know what family would let their kid do most of the decorating." Aizawa said, his eyes wide in shock of the situation.
"So, you think..." Hagakure asked, dreading the answer.
"You live here?" Ben asked.
"Yeah, by myself!" Kevin confirmed proudly.
"He's all on his own? That's so messed up." Ashido said sadly.
"And what's worse, he even sounds PROUD about that." Asui added, heartbroken, embracing Midoriya.
"How old is he?" All Might asked, fearing the answer.
"Eleven. Just one year older than Ben." Maverick told them, leaving them even more heartbroken.
"I can't believe it. No child should have to go through that." Midoriya said, tearing up as he held his girlfriend closer. Even at his lowest points, he remembered his mother had always there for him. Even when she didn't tell him the things he needed to hear, she still tried to support and encourage him. He couldn't imagine not having that as he grew up the way he did. He wouldn't have survived, he was positive.
"Now his attitude makes sense. He's willing to steal and fight those thugs because he likely has to in order to survive. Because he has no one to care for him, he has to do so on his own, by whatever means necessary." Yaoyorozu said in astonishment, now wondering if she'd be willing to do the same in his situation, almost feeling guilty for having so much while he had nothing.
"What about your family?" Ben asked.
"Long gone! They weren't too thrilled having a 'freak' for a son, but it just means I don't answer to nobody!" Kevin explained.
"His own parents even abandoned him?!" Uraraka asked in horror.
"Bastards..." Bakugo growled.
"I knew Quirk discrimination was bad, but I never would've expected anything like this." Sato said, feeling terrible for the boy.
"Now, I know all this is horrifying and you may blame his parents, but there's actually another layer to this problem and it isn't his parents' fault." Anemone told them, causing their stomachs to drop even further than they thought possible. "Present Mic, do you recall what your card on Kevin said?" She asked.
"It's still at the top of the pile. 'To absorb energy and matter'." The radio host hero re-read the card.
"And that's the important part. Energy AND MATTER. That's actually the PROPER way for Osmosians to use their power. They ARE NOT supposed to absorb energy. Doing so affects their minds, leading to insanity." Anemone said, many covering their mouths as the situation made them feel even worse for the boy. "So, yes. Kevin's recollection of events is not very accurate. That's all we'll say for now." Anemone told them.
"An eleven year old child, all on his own... And his own power driving him insane every time he uses it..." Tokoyami said in horror.
"Oh, jeez. That sounds like a recipe for disaster." Dark Shadow said, concerned for the boy.
"And even if someone found him and was willing to take him in, it's possible they'd fear and reject him for his powers." Shoji said sadly.
"Sounds good to me!" Ben said with a smile. "So, why was that gang after you?" He asked.
"I kinda trashed their hangout under the 39th Street bridge." Kevin admitted in embarrassment. "Oh, what about you? Sounds like your grandpa's pretty steamed at you." He asked.
"Like usual. And all I did was sneak in and play the new Sumo Slammer video game!" Ben complained.
"And got them kicked out of a fancy hotel that probably cost at least a hundred bucks." Kaminari reminded him.
"Indeed. Young Ben has a serious problem with taking responsibility for his actions. That's going to HAVE to change if he's ever to become a true hero." All Might agreed.
"The one that won't be out until Christmas?" Kevin asked.
"Yeah." Ben confirmed.
And suddenly, Kevin got a look in his eye.
Many quickly grew concerned at the look in Kevin's eye. "Oh, that's not good." Koda said.
"Agreed. Definitely not liking that look." Asui agreed.
"W-well, at least Ben's with him. He still wants to be a hero, so no way he'd actually go along with someone breaking the law... right?" Hagakure asked nervously.
Come nighttime, the boys ran up to the entrance of a warehouse. "I got a tip a new shipment just came in." Kevin explained, before he ran up to the door's keypad and overloaded it with electricity. "Help me kick in the door!" He instructed.
As the boys kicked it down, they didn't notice a sensor quietly beeping.
The class had a whirlwind of emotions at this: shock, disbelief, disappointment, sadness, anger and betrayal. "Ben's really going through with this. I can't believe it." Midoriya said, shocked and saddened that Ben would give up his morales and commit a crime.
"This is too far, Ben! Your other crimes were relatively minor, but you have officially crossed over into felony territory! This cannot be forgiven!" Iida snapped.
"And it looks like you had the right idea about Kevin, too, Eraser." Present Mic admitted, giving the older boy on screen a glare.
"B=but Kevin's crazy, right? So he doesn't really understand what he's doing?" Ashido asked.
"Not THAT crazy. He clearly still understands that actions have consequences, since he knew to avoid those thugs when they came looking for him. So he's cognizant enough to be aware of his actions. Meaning he can be punished for those actions." Aizawa declared harshly, glaring at the boy on screen just like Mic.
The students felt a bit unsure at this, feeling like their teachers were being a bit too harsh on the boy after everything they just learned about him, but couldn't argue with his logic.
Kevin turned on the lights and Ben was amazed to see hundreds of stacked wooden crates, all marked "Sumo Slammers". "Wooooooah...!" The younger boy exclaimed in awe.
Kevin opened a crate, full of copies of the new video game. "Check it out! Wait's over, dude!" He said as he tossed a copy Ben's way.
"Hee hee, yes!" Ben said giddily as he caught and looked at the game.
"Ben, this is legitimately stealing! Stop this at once!" Yaoyorozu demanded.
Bakugo growled at this, glaring back at the hosts. "Oi, what the hell?! I thought you told us this kid was going to be a hero we should all try to be like! But from what I'm seeing, he just became a villain!" The explosive boy snapped.
"Jeez, it's a video game. AT MOST, it's 60 bucks. That's only petty theft. The B&E is a felony, sure, but it's an unoccupied structure or conveyance. That makes it a third-degree felony, the LEAST serious kind and it would only get him five years and a five thousand dollar fine. It ain't like he's getting a life sentence for this shit. Plus, he's just a kid, so once he turns 26, his juvenile record gets destroyed and it's like it never happened. His whole future isn't destroyed because of ONE mistake." Maverick explained.
"But he broke the law! That's not manly at all! It's the actions of a villain, not a hero!" Kirishima insisted.
"And that's one of the many problems with your society. You act as if these titles are permanent, that you're a hero no matter what you do and can do no wrong, or that villains are literally incapable of doing any form of good. That is incredibly dogmatic and short-sighted. These labels are just that: labels. And they make you forget what you ALL really are at the end of the day: people. Humans. And humans can change. A lesson many of you should know by now. Some more than others." Anemone told them, looking to Bakugo in particular, who looked down in shame as he remembered how terrible he was to Midoriya in the past.
Suddenly, smoke grenades came crashing through the windows of the warehouse, lights from helicopters shone through the window. The place was surrounded!
"Smoke grenades and helicopters? That's a S.W.A.T team response! They're the elite police force, the next best thing to Pro Heroes!" All Might realized.
"That big of a deal for some video games?! That's a little extreme, isn't it?!" Mineta exclaimed.
"It's a response to Kevin, in particular, you DID see he had an ATM in his home, right?" Anemone reminded them.
This caused the mood to darken EVEN MORE somehow as the cast was starting to feel bad about Kevin in a whole different way. "Just how much has this kid done to make the S.W.A.T team the first response for him!?" Sato asked in horror, the class now wondering just how dangerous Kevin must be.
Ben and Kevin coughed from the smoke. "What do we do?" Ben asked.
"Get out of here!" Kevin told him, dropping his copy of the game and bolting, with Ben doing the same.
"W-well, they left the games behind, so it is no longer stealing, no?" Aoyama asked.
"No. They both broke in with the intent to steal and did briefly take possession of those games, so they would still be charged with theft. In addition, they would still be charged with breaking and entering." Midnight told him.
They ran to an entrance, but a helicopter light shined on them. They turned around and Ben ran away, while Kevin rushed to the nearest outlet. Ben went for another entrance, but armed S.W.A.T soldiers burst through the door. Meanwhile, Kevin charged himself up with electricity. (They wondered what Kevin would do with the electricity, but said nothing.)
"Freeze, punks!" A S.W.A.T soldier ordered.
As the soldiers looked for the kids, Kevin hopped in an unpowered forklift and charged it with his hand. "Time to 'rev things up'!" The Osmosian declared as the forklift sped forward. Kevin then ditched it right before it collided into a soldier and knocked him into boxes.
"Oh, jeez! He's trying to kill them!" Jiro exclaimed in horror.
"Unlikely. Forklifts only have a top speed of 15-20 miles per hour. It will certainly HURT, but likely not kill them. One of the forks could've theoretically impaled him, but he was in between them, so that wouldn't happen." Yaoyorozu explained. "Still, it is quite concerning he was more than willing to run into someone with a vehicle." She admitted.
"Let's go!" Kevin called to Ben and the two of them ran out of the last exit, facing water. Two police cars arrived, blocking both roads next to them and a helicopter hovered in front of them. They ran back into the warehouse and hid behind a box.
"Looks like there's no way out now." Uraraka said, feeling a bit conflicted. Sure, they both committed crimes, but Kevin was mentally unwell and Ben had done a lot of good in the past. It felt like a shame it had to come to an end.
"It's unfortunate, but this is what happens for breaking the law." Iida said.
"But, at least Ben will get some counseling and Kevin can get the mental health he needs, right?" Ashido asked.
"That's what's SUPPOSED to happen. But unfortunately, many of these facilities don't give children the education or mental health services the children need. Some even put them in solitary confinement for an entire day, or subject them to chemical sprays." Anemone told them.
Many students now felt similar conflicts to Uraraka. "Yeah, suddenly, I don't want them to get caught anymore." Hagakure said worriedly.
"Great, no way out!" Ben said in annoyance.
"Any ideas?" Kevin asked.
Ben looked to his Omnitrix. "Only one, but can you keep a secret?" He asked.
Kevin hesitated for a minute. "...Sure!" He confirmed.
Soldiers marched into the entrance and blocked it as Ben turned on the Omnitrix and cycled through it. "What are you doing with your watch?" Kevin asked, before his eyes snapped wide open as Ben excitedly slammed it down, transforming into Stinkfly.
"Right. Stinkfly can fly, so he can escape." Todoroki noted.
"From the guys on the ground. The chopper's a different story." Bakugo pointed out.
Kevin smiled at him until- "Ugh, you reek!" He complained, pinching his nose.
"I knooow!" Stinkfly groaned in annoyance. (A few laughed at this, but said nothing.)
Stinkfly, with Kevin in his arms, flew out of the entrance, knocking the soldiers down.
Stinkfly flew across the water, with the helicopters chasing after them. "Oh yeah!" Kevin cheered in excitement, letting his feet touch the water, before looking back up at Stinkfly. "And people call me a freak! How'd you do that?" He asked.
"That's a bit mean, Kevin. The reason he liked you is because you have powers like him, so he didn't feel like a freak." Koda said.
"It's different. There's no malice behind his words. And he didn't know Ben had powers like him at first. Now he probably thinks it's a good thing, so they can be freaks together." Shoji told him.
"Talk later." Stinkfly told him, looking behind them with his eyestalks.
In each helicopter, a soldier with a gun hung out from the side and fired at them.
"They're actually shooting at them!? They're just kids! And they're not even being hostile!" Midoriya exclaimed in horror.
"But from their perspective, Stinkfly is some kind of potentially dangerous monster and they know Kevin is dangerous. I certainly don't approve, but it's understandable." Midnight said reluctantly.
Stinkfly zigzagged around the shots and flew toward the Statue of Liberty. He came up to the statue's face and slalomed in between the points on her crown, Kevin running along them.
"Ah, the statue of liberty. Quite the sight to behold..." All Might marvelled, before shrinking back at the situation at hand. "If the situation weren't so harrowing." He added awkwardly.
"Gotta admit, as long as you can't smell him, between skimming on the water and running on the statue, flying around like that with Stinkfly would be fun." Kaminari admitted.
"I gotta admit, Stinkfly's agility in the air is impressive. And weaving between the crown points is a good way to avoid getting shot and making it harder for the helicopter to follow or really even see them." Asui admitted begrudgingly, still thinking Ben and Kevin shouldn't get away with what they were doing, but also not wanting them to get shot or mistreated in Juvie.
The helicopters flew around the statue and back. "Where'd they go?" One of the pilots asked.
But as the helicopters returned to formation, it was revealed Stinkfly had hitched a ride on the underside of one.
"Pretty clever way to try and hide." Ojiro said.
"Yeah. I don't like what they did, but as a stealth hero, I approve." Hagakure agreed.
"I'm running out of time! I'll lose them in the city." Stinkfly told Kevin.
The gunman on the opposite helicopter spotted Stinkfly and shot, forcing him off the underside. The Lepidopteran evaded their shots and made his way to the city, but the helicopters refused to stop following. "Uh-oh." Stinkfly said worriedly as he took cover in between traffic and on the front of a tour bus, terrifying the people inside. They even flew over the Rustbucket at one point.
"Uh-oh. If Ben wasn't in trouble with Max before, he definitely is now." Sato said.
"Good. Maybe he'll finally bring the hard discipline that will keep that kid in line." Aizawa declared.
"If you mean strangling him like you and Homer Simpson, that don't fly in the states." Maverick told him.
In Times Square, a reporter was being broadcasted to a screen when Stinkfly flew in front of her shot. The cameraman projected the insectoid alien on the screen and he stopped to notice. Kevin made a peace sign.
Some of the students couldn't help but chuckle at this. "At least he's having fun." Sero said.
"He should be taking this situation more seriously. Their lives are at risk right now!" Iida scolded once again.
The helicopters shot at them, hitting the screen and chasing them out of the square. "Can't shake 'em!" Stinkfly said as he kept flying until he saw a truck hauling multiple cars on a road below them. "I've got an idea!" He declared as he made his way to the car-hauling truck as it approached an underpass.
While Stinkfly could fit underneath it, the helicopters were forced to lift up. "We'll get 'em on the other side!" One of the pilots said. They came to the end of the underpass and stopped to look for Stinkfly. However, there was nothing there. "Where'd that thing go?" The pilot asked.
Ben peeped his head up. He and Kevin were in one of the cars being carried, Stinkfly having reverted while under. "Yeah!" Kevin cheered, fist pumping.
"Alright, yeah. Not gonna lie, that was pretty clever." Present Mic admitted.
"Yeah. Lucky THAT was when the watch chose to run out." Mineta agreed.
"Guess it is pretty good at timing after all." Kaminari said, to which many either groaned or rolled their eyes.
Later, the boys ran with the sound of a police siren in the distance, stopping to catch their breath in a lone alley. "So, that watch lets you be that dragonfly thing whenever you want?" Kevin asked.
"And not just that one. It sends out this special energy, so I can turn into ten different aliens!" Ben explained.
"Ben, maybe Kevin isn't the best one to be telling this to." Hagakure said nervously.
"Wait. The Omnitrix sends out energy, Kevin absorbs energy... You guys don't think he could drain it somehow, do you?" Jiro asked in concern.
Many felt a sense of dread at this. "Oh, man. I don't even want to think of how much power that would give him. If the power source will greatly outlive Ben, that means it has AT LEAST a lifetime supply of power. He could shoot it out like Kaminari as much as he wanted!" Midoriya said, equally concerned.
"He might actually be LESS dangerous if that was how it worked." Anemone said too quiet for them to hear.
"Ten?! So the speed guy at the arcade was you?" Kevin asked in amazement.
"Uh-huh." Ben confirmed.
"You're the MAN! Show me what other aliens you can morph into!" He requested.
"It's not that simple. It has a mind of its own." Ben elucidated, shows Kevin the watch, glowing red.
Kevin reached for it. "Gimme it! Maybe I can make it work." He suggested.
"Can't. It's stuck on my wrist..." Ben informed him.
Kevin then thought for a moment. "We should be partners! Between the two of us, with our powers? We could do whatever we want, whenever we want! I mean, totally cash in! What do you say? Friends?" He offered, holding out his hand to Ben.
Ben reached out and shook it. "Friends." He agreed.
"That would be sweet, if I wasn't concerned with how they'd abuse their powers." Yaoyorozu said distrustfully.
"Maybe there's a chance Ben could get Kevin to do good? So they could be manly and help people?" Kirishima said hopefully.
"Tch. Doubt it. The little shit's been a self-serving brat, taking whatever he wants without thinking about anyone else for who knows how long. And Tennyson's not all that far off, screwing around and only thinking about what he wants, not caring about anyone else, either. He'll probably be acting like Goth Boy in no time." Bakugo said, growling as he remembered that he wasn't too different from the two delinquents at one point in time.
The Rustbucket continued to drive through New York City, with Gwen siting in front with Max and adjusting the radio. "Of all the stunts Ben's pulled, THIS is the worst! When I find him...!" Max growled, incensed beyond belief his grandson would go this far.
"Yikes. Max is scary when he gets mad." Ashido said.
"Everyone has their limits. And when the patient one reaches theirs, it's never pretty." Shoji stated.
"Yeah. You guys should've seen Fumi after Shoji got hurt at the training camp!" Dark Shadow declared.
"Dark Shadow, cease this slander at once!" Tokoyami snapped.
Gwen sighed at this. "I should really be enjoying this... So why aren't I?" She asked herself.
"Because you actually care about your cousin, as much as you try not to admit it." Koda told her.
"And she's worried about him and the trouble he's getting himself into. She's a bit of a brat, but she's still a good person." Uraraka said.
Meanwhile, in a subway station, Kevin and Ben hopped over the ticket checks.
They came into the empty station, which had two tracks on the floor. "Check it out!" Kevin said, before noticing a light fixture. "Gimme a boost, I need to recharge!" He instructed.
Ben helped Kevin up, allowing him to absorb electricity from the light. He hopped off Ben and ran onto the empty tracks, gripping a switch, which he charged with electricity, causing the rails on one track to shift and connect to the other.
"He can't just switch the tracks like that! They're set to ensure the lanes are safe for two different trains on different tracks! Changing them like that, while trains are likely en route to their destinations, could put them in danger by putting them on the same route!" Iida exclaimed in horror.
"But why?! What could the point possibly be?!" Uraraka asked.
"What are we doing?" Ben asked.
"A money train loaded with cash comes down this track, so when it crashes into the incoming passenger train? Boom! Instant - jackpot! You turn into that XLR8 guy and we're outta here!" Kevin instructed.
Many were horrified and angered by Kevin's plan. "He's willing to kill countless people. Just for some money. That's too cruel." Sato said harshly, giving the boy a death glare.
"Looks like those thugs were right. He IS a freak. Just not for the reason they meant." Aizawa growled, he and several others completely forgetting the detail that Kevin was mentally unstable.
"Ben, if EVER there was a time to be a hero, it's now." Midoriya said, mentally pleading that the boy would do the right thing.
"After all he's done? He's as bad as Kevin. I wouldn't be surprised if he goes along with it." Asui huffed judgmentally.
"Yikes! Come on, Tsu! Sure, Ben's been a brat this episode and even stole, but he still doesn't want to hurt anyone." Ashido told her. The frog girl gave her a look, but said nothing and looked back at the screen, ready for Ben to make the wrong choice.
"But, hundreds of innocent people will be killed!" Ben told him.
Many students sighed in relief at this. "Thank goodness..." They all said.
"He's a selfish brat, but he's not a bad person. He still wants to do the right thing." Todoroki praised, giving a nod of approval.
"Let's hope he's ready to give his new 'friend' a talking to." Aoyama said.
"Hey, 'no pain, no gain'." The Osmosian said dismissively.
"You can't do this!" The Omnitrix-wielder insisted.
"Sure we can! I just switched the tracks!" Kevin said simply, not understanding Ben's meaning.
"I mean I'm not gonna let you do this." Ben told him.
Kevin's smile dropped. "We shook... We're partners." He reminded the younger boy.
"Consider your partnership dissolved!" Uraraka told him.
"Now get ready to get your ass kicked, emo boy!" Bakugo declared.
"No, this is going way too far!" Ben snapped.
"Then try and stop me, 'watch boy'!" Kevin declared.
"You don't care about anyone else but yourself." Ben said, having a moment of realization.
"You talkin' about me?!" The energy absorber demanded.
"No, I'm talking about me!" The Omnitrix-wielder declared and charged towards Kevin, who grabbed him and threw him to the ground.
"He's finally understanding the problem with how he's been acting. Good." Kirishima said with a smile.
"Still too late for him to be a hero... But he can at least still stop a villain." Present Mic declared.
But then, they saw Kevin throw him away easily. "Not if he keeps fighting like that, though." Mineta said.
"He doesn't want to hurt him too bad. He probably still considers him a friend, because of their kinship through having powers." Ojiro said.
"Now's not the time for holding back! Now's the time to beat the crap out of him!" Hagakure insisted.
As Ben got up, Kevin's hands started sparking. "Ohohoho, you do not want to make me mad!" He warned.
"Me neither! I'm switching the track back!" Ben insisted as he turned on the Omnitrix. "Time to go Four Arms!" The boy declared, slamming down the dial.
However, instead of Four Arms, he found himself turned into Heatblast as he looked over himself. "Ugh, stupid watch." The Pyronite complained.
"I mean, Heatblast's still a good option. A guy made of fire isn't someone to mess with." Kaminari defended the pyronite.
"Honestly, I think any of his aliens would be good for this, except Grey Matter." Sato said.
"Ripjaws could win the fight, but that would still be ill-advised, due to his need for water to breathe." Yaoyorozu noted.
Kevin smiled and walked towards him, to which Heatblast extended a flaming hand. "Move back!" He warned.
"Or what? You gonna burn my dinner?" Kevin taunted.
"Bro, are you kidding me? You look at a guy on fire, aiming fire in his hands AT YOU... and you don't feel threatened at all!?" Jiro asked incredulously.
"Agreed. He's bigger, stronger, more durable and can shoot fire. All of that means you're heavily outmatched." Shoji agreed.
"There's confident, there's arrogant... then there's just foolish." Midnight confirmed.
"Fight me, you're the one who's gonna be burned!" Heatblast threatened.
Kevin glanced behind himself, turning and running to a generator next to the track switch. He gripped it and used it to absorb all of the electricity. Heatblast looked around as the lights around him popped out and glass shattered. This sent the entire subway station into darkness, Heatblast's flames being the only source of light.
"Cutting out the lights. Clever strategy, since he can hide in the dark with his dark clothes and hair while Heatblast is a light source. So he can hide, but still see his target, while his target CAN'T hide, but CAN still see him." Midoriya admitted begrudgingly.
"Dang it! Why can't the villains ever be stupid and NOT have a plan?!" Hagakure complained.
"Because then they wouldn't last as a villain." Bakugo grumbled.
The Pyronite looked over to the generator, but Kevin wasn't there anymore. The dark-haired boy snuck up behind him and jumped on his back. As Heatblast flailed, Kevin tried absorbing him with his right hand. Energy traveled up his arm and he screamed, his body being sent flying off of Heatblast.
The group all gained looks of dread when they saw what Kevin did. "He CAN absorb the Omnitrix's energy!" Kirishima cried out.
"Looks like it didn't work out too well for him, though." Asui said.
"But now the question is, what did that do TO him?" Iida wondered.
Heatblast looked at him concerningly and tried to approach, but got blasted back by fire, causing an explosion. (the group all jumped and gasped at this, but were too shocked to say anything.)
As the infernal alien got up, he got a good look at Kevin: the entire right side of his upper body and whole head had been transformed to have his same rocky fiery skin.
They were horrified at this new transformation. "No way! He actually copied Heatblast's powers! He's like an evil Monoma!" Uraraka shrieked.
"So, just Monoma?" Kaminari asked.
"Now's not the time for joke's Dunce Face! Emo Boy just got a WHOLE lot more dangerous." Bakugo growled.
All Might, meanwhile, looked on in horror. (Being able to take power from someone just by touching them... Just like All For One!) He thought to himself with a sense of dread, an image of Kevin overlapping AFO. But then, the former number one shook his head. (No. It's different from him. Kevin doesn't fully steal the power. Still, this makes him an incredibly difficult opponent if Young Ben can't fight him up close, lest he risk giving Kevin MORE power.) He told himself in his mind. "What will you do now, Young Ben?" He wondered.
"Sike! I absorb energy, remember?" Pyronite Kevin declared.
"You don't have to do this!" Heatblast told him as he got up and rushed at Kevin, but he moved out of the way and blasted the true Pyronite in the back with an intense wave of fire.
"The time for talking is over! You have get him out of the way and stop that switch!" Sato insisted.
"Come on, Ben! Figure something out! You always do!" Mineta cried out.
"He always figures it out with help. But can he do it on his own?" Jiro asked worriedly.
"Have faith, young listener! Ben's a pretty clever cookie for his age. I'm sure he'll think of something." Present Mic assured her. He still lost faith in the boy as a hero, but he was the only hope for the people on the train now.
Heatblast fell to his knees on a track. "It's time I got what's coming to me. Nobody's calling me 'freak' anymore!" Kevin declared.
"You've just given them JUSTIFICATION to call you a freak." Shoji told him with a scowl under his mask.
"Reasons like this is why Quirks were banned and regulated in the first people abused them and made everyone afraid of people with powers." Sero agreed, also glaring at the mutated boy..
Heatblast then suddenly heard a train horn to his left, seeing a passenger train come barreling down the track. Then, a second horn, to which he gasped as the cargo train came down that same track, on his right.
"Payday." The Pyronite fusion said smugly. (The students all cried out "No!", but said nothing else.)
Quickly thinking, Heatblast shot fire at the track switch, melting it and causing the switch to short-circuit back to its first position, saving the passengers train.
Once again, everyone sighed in relief. "He did it. Thank goodness." Midoriya uttered as the stress started to fade. "You did it, Ben. You're still a hero." He whispered proudly to the boy.
"A clever solution. It still caused quite a bit of damage, but at least the worst was avoided." Iida stated.
Meanwhile, the cargo train was about to ram into Heatblast, but the Pyronite formed a fire tornado. The train conductor braced for impact, but the train simply went right through the fire. Heatblast had disappeared.
"Oh, crap!" The students cried out as they saw Heatblast about to get hit, but calmed down when he disappeared.
"That was way too close." Kaminari said.
"Wonder where he went, though?" Ashido wondered.
"I can only think of one place..." Aizawa realized.
Kevin looked around the now empty station, puzzled. "Forget the money! Time to get some priceless revenge!" The mutated alien declared.
"Oh, great. They went from friends, to full-on enemies." Ojiro said.
"At least he doesn't know where to find the Tennysons to come after them." Aoyama pointed out.
"That's assuming he IS the one he's coming after. We already know another group Kevin has problems with, the odds are pretty good there are more." Midnight noted as well.
As the cargo train sped through the subway tunnels, Heatblast lied on top of the train's roof, gripping the edge. However, his grip slipped and he tumbled down a couple cars.
"So he got on top of the train. I guess that makes sense. He's still got to be somewhere inside those fire tornadoes when he makes them." Asui said.
But then, they gasped when he slipped. "There's nowhere for him to hang on! And they're going WAY too fast for him to stay in place without some kind of hold." Uraraka exclaimed in concern.
Thankfully, he managed to save himself, but still couldn't really keep this grip up for long, so he melted through the roof with his hand and held on that way.
"Oh... Well, now he has a handhold." Hagakure said.
"That's probably gonna be a costly repair, though." Dark Shadow pointed out.
"True, but just like with the switch, desperate times call for desperate measures." Dark Shadow defended the Pyronite's actions.
In the Rustbucket, Gwen and Max listened to the radio, hoping for a clue on Ben's whereabouts. "-And expect delays on the uptown subway lines near 51st Street. There have been reports of fires breaking out all over the tunnels." The radio announcer informed the listeners.
"Grandpa?" Gwen realized.
"I know." Max confirmed, spinning the Rustbucket around and driving to the subway lines.
"I wonder if he's going to blame Ben for this one, too." Ashido wondered nervously.
"Well, Heatblast DID cause the fire. Kevin only blasted Heatblast, so he didn't cause any stray damage." Yaoyorozu admitted.
"But at least he did it to save people. That makes up for it a bit, at least." Jiro defended.
Meanwhile, the Omnitrix started beeping red.
"OH, COME ON!" Pretty much everyone except Aizawa and Todoroki complained.
"Oh man! I hate that sound!" Heatblast lamented, before he turned back into Ben.
"US, TOO!" The entire group shouted in agreement, although Aizawa and Todoroki only said it quietly, or quietly compared to the others.
Now much smaller and weaker than the Pyronite, Ben struggled to hold on, as the train exited the tunnel and rode across the overhead subway lines in the city. "Come on, hold on...!" Ben told himself with great strain in his voice as he was barely able to hang on.
A horn suddenly honked next to Ben. The Rustbucket was there, driving alongside the subway, swerving past cars going the other way. Max flipped a switch, which brought out the RV's side rolling tarp.
"That's his plan? For Ben to jump on the tarp?!" Hagakure asked.
"Well, him and Shaw fell from a lot higher down onto it before." Ojiro admitted.
"Not to mention, they don't really have many other options." Todoroki pointed out.
But then, Max spotted a sign coming up in front of Ben.
"YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!" The students exclaimed at this.
"I'd almost swear Young Ben has a Quirk that gives bad luck." All Might said in concern.
"Like an action movie, the danger never stops! Give us a chance to catch our breath, at least!" Present Mic exclaimed.
The elderly Tennyson then swerved the RV to the other side of the road, so the tarp was closer to Ben. They then continued honking at Ben, hoping to get his attention and that he would understand the plan. (The whole crowd screamed "Jump, Ben!", but that's about it.)
Ben then looked up and saw the sign approaching. "Ooh, that's gonna hurt!" He grimaced.
The boy then leapt off just in time, the tarp catching him perfectly. "Nice catch, Grandpa!" Gwen cheered.
The entire class sighed in relief at this. "That was way too close." Sato announced.
"Indeed. But now I'm sure Monsieur Max will have quite a few words for Ben." Aoyama said, somewhat worried.
Later, Max was scolding Ben once again inside the parked Rustbucket. "Are you ever planning on listening to me? None of this would have happened if you just obeyed me from the beginning! It's all about trust!" The older Tennyson told his grandson sternly.
"Then trust me that Kevin's probably misusing Heatblast's power right now!" Ben insisted.
"I would say he has every right to never trust Ben again, but he is right on this one." Aizawa admitted.
"Yeah, Kevin's WAY too dangerous to be allowed to run around with that power!" Midoriya agreed.
"Let's hope it's possible to beat the energy out of him." Bakugo declared.
"Grandpa, Ben's right. There's no telling what he could do now!" Gwen agreed with her cousin.
"Okay...so where is he?" Max asked.
Ben thought for a moment, before remembering something Kevin told him before. "...I think I know!" He realized. (The class leaned forward, wondering the answer, but didn't say anything.)
Fire erupted under the 39th street bridge, at the thugs' hideout.
"Of course. Those punks again." Jiro realized.
"But why? Ben already dealt with them. He was out of trouble, so why would he go back and make more?" Hagakure asked.
"Because they still call him a freak. They can't do that if they're not breathing." Iida realized in horror.
"Uhh! Kevin! We can work this out!" The strong-armed kid tried to reason with the energy absorber.
But the mutated Pyronite simply brandished his fiery arm. "I don't think so." He declared darkly.
"Come on, Kevin! Isn't this going a little too far?!" Koda exclaimed.
"He has the power to do whatever he wants. So he thinks he CAN do whatever he wants and gets away with it." Shoji growled.
The Rustbucket was stuck in traffic, with Max unable to do much more than honk the horn. "Move it!" The elderly Tennyson insisted, continuing to honk the horn.
"Traffic. The weakness of any hero without a solid mobility Quirk." Kaminari lamented.
"Too bad you aren't there to float it for them, Ochako." Ashido said.
"Way too big. I'd puke and have to drop it before we even got a few blocks away." The gravity girl admitted.
"Don't worry, Uraraka. Soon enough, that will seem like child's play to you." Anemone told her, knowing what the girl would be capable of in the future.
"Going Stinkfly! See you at the 39th Street bridge!" Ben declared, slamming down the Omnitrix.
But, once again, the watch glitched and turned him into Four Arms, his giant body curled up inside the Rustbucket, unable to move.
The students all facepalmed at this. "It's like this thing has a grudge against him or something." Midnight said.
"At least Four Arms will be a good match against Kevin." Midoriya said.
"Assuming he gets there before the Omnitrix runs out." Yaoyorozu pointed out.
"Great. NOW I turn into Four Arms!" The Tetramand complained, managing to get out the door and leapt on the roofs of the cars in traffic.
"Oh." The entire audience said simply in surprise, not expecting Four Arms to be that mobile.
At the hideout, all four kids were stuck under a large pipe. Kevin crossed his arms in front of them. "Hah! So much for your gang!" The Osmosian taunted.
But suddenly, Kevin returned to normal, his fire dying and his rocks falling from his skin. "Huh? What's going on?" The dark-haired boy could only wonder.
"Oh. Whew, that's lucky." Kaminari said.
"So, the situation's basically handled. Ben doesn't even need to do anything!" Hagakure cheered.
"Not exactly. Those punks are still trapped under that pipe. Kevin could still easily finish them." All might pointed out in concern.
"Besides, Kevin can't be allowed to just run around, scott free. All he needs is to get his hands on some electricity and come back to finish those punks. Or whoever gets in his way. He needs to be put in a cell." Aizawa added, glaring at the Osmosian boy.
Four Arms then landed behind him. "Your power's gone!" The Tetramand told him.
"Looks like you're about to give me some more, Ben!" Kevin declared.
"Why the hell would he do that, idiot?" Bakugo scoffed.
"We probably don't want to know." Dark Shadow said.
"Indeed. Who knows what devious tricks Kevin has up his sleeves." Tokoyami agreed.
"No!" Four Arms refused.
"You don't have a choice!" The Osmosian told him, walking over to the four kids, lighting up his hands with electricity. "I still got enough juice to fry these guys!" He told his former friend.
"Oh, come on! Why is it never easy!?" Ashido complained.
"They're thugs, but they don't deserve this!" Iida exclaimed.
"Hurry, Four Arms!" Kirishima cried out.
Four Arms ran in and clutched Kevin, throwing off his aim just as he shot lightning from his hands.
For the umptheenth time, they sighed in relief at the thuggish kids being saved. "Way too close." Mineta said.
"So he can just shoot it from his hands. We thought he could do it before, but didn't know. So he really is like an evil Kaminari, but better." Jiro noted, causing the electric Quirk User to grumble.
"But now Kevin can get him!" Uraraka exclaimed.
"He should've tried to get his arms down to trap them at his side." Ojiro criticized.
"He probably still would've been able to reach him." Anemone told him.
But Kevin smirked at this, as Four Arms fell for his trap, placing his hands on the arms wrapped around him and absorbing Four Arms' arms energy, laughing maniacally.
"Oh, crap! That's bad!" Sero exclaimed.
"Who knows what kind of menace he's about to turn into now?" Present Mic asked in concern.
He then grew a third arm and punched Four Arms away. Kevin laughed as his skin turned red and his left eye morphed into two yellow eyes, leaving Four Arms stunned.
Many in the crowd jumped at this unnerving transformation. "Okay, that's terrifying!" Asui squeaked out, clinging closely to Midoriya.
"W-well, at least it can't get any worse, right?" Mineta asked nervously.
Kevin then ran up to him, growing a third set of arms and punching Four Arms so hard he went flying back.
"It got worse! It got SO much worse!" The grape-headed boy cried out.
"SIX ARMS?! That's just cheating! How does he even get the extra two?!" Sato exclaimed in horror.
"Well, at least they're scrawny, so they can't be that strong, right?" Sero asked nervously.
"Maybe, but the two bulky arms are even bigger than Four Arms', so they may be stronger." Todoroki pointed out.
"Hahahaha, this is gonna be REAL fun!" Tetramand Kevin laughed in a much deeper voice.
"TELL me about it!" Four Arms agreed challengingly, the two squaring off and locking fists.
"I'm taking ALL your alien powers!" Kevin declared.
"Not likely, since it looks like he can only drain the powers of the one Ben's transformed into." Midoriya said.
"That's a lucky break. Could you imagine if he could use the powers of ALL the aliens?" Ashido asked.
"Indeed, that'd be a nightmare." Yaoyorozu said, no one noticing the hosts' knowing glances at each other.
Four Arms then twisted and slammed Kevin back into a wall. But, Kevin was quick to return the favor, grabbing him and whipping him into a wall. And he soon began to completely overwhelm the pure Tetramand, punching him in the face with his giant right upper arm, then grabbing him and raising him above his head, dropping him on his stomach on his raised knee. He then punched him back into a wall.
"Oh, man. This isn't going very good." Kaminari said nervously.
"It's like the most insane wrestling match ever. With A LOT of illegal moves!" Kirishima exclaimed.
"Kevin is being much more brutal. Four Arms isn't trying to use lethal force. But Kevin has no such moral dilemma." All Might noted.
"He's more vicious, but his attacks are more predictable. Ben can win this if he's smart." Midnight said.
As they fought, the Rustbucket parked on the bridge as Four Arms was knocked back, catching Kevin's upper arms with his upper arms and punching him in the stomach with both lower arms to knock him back. Max and Gwen got out of the RV and worked together to lift the pipe off the thugs. "'Moving day'. Get out!" Max ordered.
"Alright, looking good! Civilians are out of the way, at least!" Present Mic said in relief.
"And Four Arms is starting to kick Kevin's ass. Looks like those extra hands didn't help after all." Bakugo said with a smirk.
"It's not over 'til it's over. Anything could still happen." Sato pointed out in concern.
Kevin threw Four Arms into a wall and threw himself into the Tetramand like a Spear move right out of professional wrestling.
"This is insane!" Koda squeaked out.
"Four Arms has to think of something. And fast." Shoji said worriedly.
"Kevin's using wrestling, maybe Ben should use sumo, like that game he likes!" Kaminari suggested.
"Using random moves isn't going to help. He needs a real plan. Copying a video game would never work." Aizawa said, the hosts sharing another knowing smirk.
Four Arms struggled to hold Kevin's fists back, when the Omnitrix started beeping red.
"No! Not now! You CANNOT give out now!" Jiro shrieked, clinging to Yaoyorozu like she was a life line.
"If it does, Monsieur Ben is doomed!" Aoyama cried out in concern.
"And those punks. And probably Max and Gwen as well." Todoroki said worriedly.
"No!" Four Arms cried out. And, in a flash of willpower, Four Arms kicked Kevin back. The mutated Tetramand managed to stop himself and skid to a stop, but his vision was blurry and disoriented from the attack, allowing Four Arms to run up to him and punches him in the face with his lower left arm, immediately followed up by the upper left arm. He then repeated did the same maneuver with his right set of arms, finally ending with an upper-left haymaker that sent Kevin flying back, bouncing off the ground and flying through one bridge column and into another, which crumbled down on him.
The students were shocked, but then amazed. "YEAH!" They cheered for the pure Tetramand's victory.
"That was the most amazing turn around EVER!" Ashido exclaimed excitedly.
"Heck yeah! I wish I could see something like that in actual wrestling!" Kirishima agreed.
"Sometimes, a surge of adrenaline and willpower can do amazing things." Midnight told the students.
"And he did a great job pressing the advantage and not giving Kevin any time to recover! That's how you do it!" Uraraka said happily, hugging Bakugo.
Kevin then weakly pushed some of the debris off himself, looking up at Four Arms in defeat. "Come on! I-I give, I give! I'm sorry!" He pleaded as Four Arms reverted back to Ben. "Please, just...lighten up." He continued to beg.
"I just did, by about 300 pounds." Ben said jokingly (Some students and heroes chuckled at this, but said nothing.)
"...I guess I went too wild with power. I don't have anyone else like you to help me." Kevin admitted, actually seeming remorseful.
"We can still be partners. We'd just be kicking butts for good, instead of for ourselves! You could hang with us!" Ben offered, motioning to Max and Gwen.
The group was shocked at this, unable to believe what Ben just offered. "What the fuck, Ben!? Are you insane or something?!" Bakugo demanded.
"I agree! Kevin is a villain! Too dangerous to be allowed to run free! He should be imprisoned for the remainder of his life!" Iida agreed, chopping so fast his arms looked like a solid wall.
"So... Does SENTENCING just not exist in your universe? Does a purse snatcher get locked away for the rest of their life, the same as a mass murderer? That's a little crazy." Maverick questioned.
"Not to mention, your society tends to be quite harsh to those who have already served their sentence, or even those whose Quirk or even appearance even SEEMS to be villainous." Anemone said. "And yet, the boy constantly popping off explosions wasn't the most feared person in his district." She mumbled, looking to Bakugo.
"They do have a point. Even as far as we've come, Quirk discrimination is still a serious problem. And, while they certainly don't have it easy in America, released felons are able to have more of a life there, instead of being almost completely outcasted like here in Japan." All Might admitted. [2]
"Either way, Kevin was willing to murder hundreds of people in that subway. That's mass murder and he WOULD be in jail for the rest of his life, if not executed for his crimes." Aizawa said.
"That would be the case, IF his powers weren't driving him insane. His actions are beyond his control because his mind is being affected by the energy flowing through his body. He doesn't need PRISON, he needs HELP." Maverick said, a number of the students feeling slightly conflicted now, as well as remembering the fact that Kevin was only 11 years old, living all on his own. That also couldn't be great for his mind and his development. "In fact, his story is kind of similar to a villain some of you have faced already." The mantis man added.
Many of the group were surprised at this. "Who?" Midoriya asked.
"Himiko Toga." Anemone answered.
Those who fought Toga on the night Bakugo was captured were bewildered at this. "You can't be serious! She tried to kill Ochako and I! You two are unbelievable! I'm starting to think this was all some kind of way to trick us into being villains!" Asui snapped.
"JESUS, Froggy! You're dialed up to ELEVEN! I'm gonna need you to dial it back ALL THE WAY to zero, then keep turning until the knob breaks off!" Maverick exclaimed. "Jeez, she tried to kill you. The ENTIRE LEAGUE tried to kill you, not just her? What, you're mad because she's the only one that got to actually take a swing at you? I swear, you're like one of those people watching wrestling with the one wrestler who's an asshole, but you only get mad and start hating when he's mean to YOU specifically." The Mantis Man said, rolling his eyes.
"I saw the footage and heard the reports. You two ARE talking nonsense. That girl is a menace." Midnight said.
"No, she's unstable because of her Quirk." Anemone told them. "Quirks are biological functions that affect the way your bodies operate. Like how Dark Shadow can overwhelm Tokoyami in excessive darkness or how Tetsutetsu's Quirk is weak if he doesn't eat enough iron. And those are just examples of how simply having the Quirk affects their bodies. I'm sure there are others in this class ALONE, correct?" The serpent woman asked.
The students thought for a moment, a few of them admitting she had a point. "I need to consume a lot more water than the average person, since I lose moisture from using my fire and need water to make all the ice I do." Todoroki admitted.
"And I as well, require greater oxygen saturation in my blood to run as long as I do at the speeds I achieve." Iida admitted as well.
"And Toga's is no different. She is able to transform into people by ingesting their blood. And because of this, she had a fascination with blood, because it's so intrinsically linked to her. But her family is at least moderately important, so they had an image to protect and therefor told her to stop behaving in such a 'disgusting' way and instead act 'normal'. And so, she did that for years, putting on a mask and hiding her true feelings and desires. Can any of you imagine what that's like? To be told to stop behaving like yourself?" Anemone told them.
This left a lot of the students shocked, none more so than Midoriya, who knew the feeling all too well, constantly being mocked and ridiculed for wanting to be a hero and told he couldn't be one and to give up on his dream. But he then he thought of what they just discussed about the side-effects of Quirks. "If she ingests blood, she must need something contained WITHIN the blood. Perhaps the iron in hemoglobin?" The broccoli-haired boy theorized.
"Bingo! Right you are Midoriya!" Maverick cheered, before summoning a scroll and a pair of reading glasses. "And if she doesn't get enough iron, she'll have an iron deficiency. And that comes with a whole HOST of problems, including: fatigue, headache, heart problems and- oh, look! Behavioral issues!" The mantis man pointed out, the last item on the list being a big enough font to take up the remainder of the scroll.
"Which, I shouldn't have to tell you, is a very bad combination alongside emotional repression, hiding her true feelings, which eventually led to her snapping, attacking a boy she had a crush on. Because she believes that the ultimate expression of love for her is to become the person she loves, which is achieved by drinking their blood. So ultimately, she's just a sad little girl who wants someone to love and who loves her for who she is." Anemone said.
"Damn... That's actually pretty sad..." Sato admitted.
"Yeah. And it's pretty hard to get therapy when you're a criminal trying not to get arrested." Kaminari said.
"Dude!" Jiro snapped at him for the slightly insensitive remark.
"And, eventually, there will be a war in your world, between the Pro Heroes and the League of Villains, after they take over up with a massive force known as the Meta Liberation Army. And you students will be involved as well. And at one point, Uraraka will be gravely injured, to the point she would die without a blood transfusion. And Toga, after Ochako did the simplest, most mundane thing in the world: telling her she had a cute smile, turned into her and gave her that blood transfusion, despite being gravely injured herself." Anemone informed them, looking to Uraraka. "And she gave you ALL of her blood, dying from blood loss in order to ensure YOU won't. A villain sacrificed herself to save a hero's life." The serpent woman finished.
The group was shocked at this, most of the cast horrified to know that their friend nearly died and saddened to know a young girl like Toga would die saving her, while Bakugo was left shocked that one of the people who kidnapped him and put his life in danger would ensure his girlfriend's life WOULDN'T be in danger and Uraraka was stunned and devastated that someone had to give their life for her. And even the heroes were in complete disbelief at this, both the fact that there was a war that their students had to participate in, but that one of the villains they would be at war with would perform such a noble action: self-sacrifice, the epitome of being a hero, in All Might's own words.
And now, Asui was starting to tear up, remembering all the angry, hurtful things she's said and though about Toga since Bakugo was kidnapped, now realizing she would be one of the reasons her best friend survives, at the cost of her own life. "I... I can't believe it... She never had a chance... But she gave Ochako a second chance... I'm sorry, Toga..." She cried softly.
"So this is why it's sometimes important to understand. Not everyone is evil for the sake of being evil, like All For One. Some people don't need someone to put them down, but instead, someone to listen, to try figure out what's wrong and try to fix it. Does that sound like anyone else you all know?" Anemone asked, looking to Todoroki, the group realizing what she meant: the Sports Festival, when Midoriya was able to break through Todoroki's resolve and get him to use his true power, allowing him to accept himself and change his entire life for the better.
"Now, don't get us wrong, we're not telling you to use Talk No Jutsu on EVERY villain you meet. If you see a guy wearing one of those beak-looking, plague doctor masks, PUT. HIM. IN. THE. DIRT. But not every villain deserves that or needs that. Some of them just need someone to give a shit." Maverick declared.
The cast was silent for a moment, before All Might looked up at the hosts. "Thank you, Maverick. Anemone. You've truly given us a lot to think about." The former symbol of peace said gratefully.
"I think everyone's gonna need a bit of a crying session after this." Kaminari sobbed a bit.
"C-can we continue, please?" Uraraka asked, fighting back tears. To which the hosts nodded and resumed the viewing.
"...W-What's in it for me?" Kevin asked.
"Really? Still just in it for himself?" Yaoyorozu scoffed judgmentally.
"You can't expect someone to change in an instant. It's a long road with a lot of twists and turns." Anemone told her.
"Not to mention, it is a bit crazy to expect someone to risk their lives for nothing." Kaminari admitted.
"Maybe, but you shouldn't be asking for perks the moment you have the chance to join. Especially not after you were assaulting people." Iida countered.
"For starters, people will like you!" Ben told him, offers his hand.
However, instead of taking it, Kevin grabbed Ben's arm and lifted him up by it, pinching at the Omnitrix.
"No!" All the students cried out.
"That damn snake! He gave you a chance and you stabbed him in the back!" Jiro snapped.
"This definitely isn't giving us much inclination to help the villains, I'll be honest." Mineta said.
"Well, you still have to be cautious, obviously. Ben did make a mistake of letting his guard down here. Especially with Kevin still being a giant monster. I would've waited for his power to run out and he turns back." Maverick said.
"Ben!" Max cried out, running up and punching Kevin in the back in an attempt to save his grandson, but he was easily batted away.
"Max, no!" All Might exclaimed.
"Crap! And now no one is left who can handle him like this!" Present Mic said worriedly.
"They need some kind of miracle now." Midoriya said, fearful for the Tennysons.
"Hoho, man, you are so dim!" Kevin laughed. "Your mommy drop you on your head when you were a little baby?" He taunted in a cutesy tone. "Now gimme that watch!" The mutant Tetramand demanded ruthlessly.
"Okay, that just sounds horrifying!" Hagakure squeaked.
"But at least he can't just take the watch off." Koda said.
"However, he's probably more than willing to rip Ben's whole arm off to try and get it." Ojiro countered in concern.
"You're the one who's dim, I told you I can't!" Ben snapped.
As Kevin tried to pry off the Omnitrix, it suddenly glowed green and sent out a large feedback of green energy, launching Ben into Max's arms and launching Kevin into the other side of the bridge, causing it to collapse on top of him as the Tennysons ran to safety.
"Whoa! What was that!?" Kaminari asked.
"An energy feedback failsafe in case anyone tries to forcibly remove it." Anemone explained.
"Well, Midoriya, looks like we got that miracle after all." Ashido said with a smile.
"Amazing. So, not only is it a weapon, but it's also a defense mechanism for its user. The creator really must've thought of everything." Midoriya said, writing down this tidbit of information.
"And good thing. Because I don't see any way out of this situation if it wasn't for that failsafe." Midnight admitted.
Kevin then got up, back in human form. "Noooo!" The dark-haired boy cried out in horror as he looked at his hands, before running away.
For the final time, everyone just let out a sigh of relief. "Thank goodness." They all said together.
In the morning, the Rustbucket drove out of New York city. "I'm sorry, Grandpa. For everything." Ben finally apologized.
"With everything you've done, you should be! You're lucky you aren't in a juvenile detention center right now!" Iida snapped, chopping away yet again.
"Well, at least he learned his lesson in the end." Ashido said.
"Yeah. It takes a real man to admit he's wrong and say sorry." Kirishima said, clenching a fist and tearing up a little.
"Still, that doesn't mean his actions can be so easily forgiven." Midnight told the students.
"I know you are. You're my grandson and nothing will ever change that. But my trust is something you'll have to earn back." Max told him, softly but sternly.
Ben lowered his head and Gwen slumped in the passenger seat, both of them regretting the situation they found themselves in.
"That's actually really sad." Sato said, slightly heartbroken at the rift created between grandfather and grandson.
"Sometimes we hurt the ones we love the most." Midoriya said, remembering how much stress his mother had been through since he had enrolled at UA.
"He brought it on himself. He allowed his selfish desires to dictate his actions, even when he knew they were wrong. He made his bed, now he has to lie in it." Aizawa said harshly.
Somewhere in the abandoned subway tunnels, Kevin sat by himself in the dark. "Oh, if they thought I was a freak before? Just wait!" He declared as his hand lit on fire.
"He still has the power!? That's not fair!" Hagakure complained.
"We assumed that feedback disrupted his energy. It must have only altered it somehow." Yaoyorozu said in horror.
"Now who knows what kind of trouble he's gonna cause. Because he's definitely got trouble on his mind." Kirishima said worriedly.
Kevin's laugh echoed through the tunnels.
The whole audience was quiet for a few moments, before... "Well, that's fucking ominous." Kaminari said fearfully.
"So, how about that one, huh, guys? Pretty crazy ride, right?" Maverick asked with a bit of a chuckle, only to note the audience with looks of sadness, disappointment, betrayal and anger on their faces. "Yeah, I guess that's about what we should've expected." He admitted.
"Go ahead and speak your troubles, discussions like this are what the time after each viewing is for." Anemone offered them.
"I just can't believe Ben did all those things..." Midoriya said sadly. He had really started admiring Ben for wanting to do the right thing at such a young age and somehow figuring out how to save the day with the alien he had, even if it wasn't the one he wanted. But now, that admiration had been very nearly shattered and the greenette's image of the Omnitrix User was greatly soured.
"That brat kid went against everything we as heroes stand for! He misused his powers once again, for selfish gain with no regard to others! And he even broke the law!" Aizawa snapped.
"Indeed. Kevin's insanity may not allow him to dictate right from wrong, Ben has no such mental incapacity and should know right from wrong, yet he chose to do those things, anyway! He might as well be a villain at this point!" Iida furiously agreed with his teacher.
The two hosts look utterly dumbfounded at this argument. In a small flash of light, a bazooka-like weapon appeared in the mantis man's hand as he slowly raised the weapon at Iida and Aizawa- the two only being a few seats apart- only for Anemone to put a hand on the weapon and lower it.
"Come on, guys. Isn't that just a little harsh? I mean, Ben saved those punk kids, plus a whole train of people! That's pretty heroic, right?" Ashido asked.
"So what?! Just because he did one thing right, we're supposed to ignore all the shit he's pulled ?!" Bakugo demanded.
"The wording could certainly use some work, but Bakugo is right. Doing those few heroic deeds doesn't absolve him of the crimes he's committed, even if they are relatively minor. Such actions would be a stain on his reputation. In our world, he would've ruined any chance of a future as a hero, all because he wanted a video game." Midnight agreed.
"In other words, the kid has his shot to be a hero, but he blew it." Present Mic declared.
"Jeez, maybe Cyber-RK18 was onto something when he basically had them rip-off 'You Didn't Know' Hazbin Hotel." Maverick said Anemone, while starting to raise his bazooka at Pro Heroes again. [3]
"I wouldn't go THAT far." The serpentine woman said, reaching over to make him lower the weapon again.
She then looked to the crowd. "You and your society, as well as many other worlds, seem to have a strange idea on how people are supposed to behave in hero societies like yours. That everyone is either a hero, villain or bystander with no in between. That if you don't have powers, you should only EVER be on the sidelines, that heroes can do no wrong and that you are and forever be a villain if you do even one singular bad act and it can never be forgiven. That there is no changing what you are and you have to deal with the life you've found yourself in forever. But I say again, no matter what you are: hero, villain or bystander, you're all human. And someone can make a mistake, but unless it's truly unforgivable, such as killing someone, it shouldn't ruin your entire life. And even then, in some cases, that can be overlooked because of your mental state, certain circumstances about your life or upbringing, or the situation itself, such as if it were accidental or self defense. And there is almost always a chance for you to change your ways and improve to make up for your wrongdoings in the past." Anemone told them all. [4]
"But, that IS how things work. Villains are remorseless criminals who only think about themselves and would never consider doing the right thing. And heroes are virtuous symbols who would never do wrong." Yaoyorozu insisted.
"Wow, that is just factually incorrect. There's plenty of villains who do things for their family or in the name of someone they love, not just for themselves. And even the ones who ARE in it for themselves can see the error of their ways. Like this guy, Prince Vegeta of an alien warrior race, the Saiyans." Maverick said, showing an image of a man around Midoriya's height in a blue leotard with white and yellow armor over his chest and, most notably, a very sizeable widow's peak. "Saiyans went around making entire planets extinct or even completely destroying them, Vegeta being no exception, but now, he's a warrior who defends the universe and a... SOMEWHAT dedicated family man, even willing to risk his life for those he loves." The mantis-like host explained, showing this alien royalty obliterating planets, but then showing him with a wife and two kids, as well as him fiercely fighting off other seemingly alien creatures, even sacrificing himself in a giant explosion of energy.
"Wiping out whole planets..." Asui said in horror.
"To sacrificing himself for his family... Unbelievable..." Uraraka said in awe.
"Oh- and he's fine, by the way. They're universes has a way to bring people back from the dead by wishing on a magic dragon." Maverick quickly through in, causing their jaws to hit the floor.
"As long as it wasn't from natural causes, like old age." Anemone added.
"These other universes are just getting insane." Todoroki said in disbelief.
"And as for heroes doing no wrong, that's also not the case, there are plenty of heroes who started off good, but were broken or twisted in some way or another and wound up turning to villainy. This even happened in your world. Does the name Lady Nagant ring a bell?" Anemone asked, leaving several hardcore hero enthusiast like Midoriya or Bakugo, as well as the present Pro Heroes, in shock.
"She was a Pro for the Hero Public Safety Commission. And Hawk's senior. But she went on a murderous rampage one day and had to be locked in Tartarus. The Commission tried its best to get people to forget about this incident." All Might realized.
"That's what they wanted, yes. Because it's THEIR fault for her murderous rampage. They had her working as an assassin to take out both villains AND heroes, somehow ensuring the trust in heroes would never be broken, until the guilt ate away at her and, well, you know the rest." Anemone told them. [4]
"The hero commission really did that?" Mineta asked in horror.
"That can't be. These are the people that RUN the hero society! They keep everyone safe!" Kirishima insisted.
"Corruption exists everywhere. Especially at the top of society. Whatever keeps their agenda going." Anemone told them.
Everyone was shocked at this. Moving on from the corruption of their whole hero society, it was also a massive blow to the world views of many of these students. "Villains who turned their lives around to be good... And heroes doing anything wrong... We were all told that was impossible..." Asui said in complete shock along with many others.
"What else is wrong with everything we were taught as kids? Everything we were raised to believe?" Jiro asked, equally stunned.
But Aizawa then slammed his hand down on his armrest. "Enough! Yes, our system is flawed. Maybe even corrupt. But there's still a certain way heroes are supposed to act! And Ben just spat in the face of all of that! Sure, he did the right thing in the end here, but what if there's something he wants even more? What if a civilian has something rare he can't find anywhere else and he just snatches it, thinking he deserves it for being a hero? We've already seen him get revenge on bullies, what if someone pushes him too far and he turns into Four Arms to put them in a body cast, or a grave, but he thinks it's alright since he's saved so many other people? He can't be trusted with that power anymore." The narcoleptic hero declared.
"Well, in case you forgot, that power is merged to his wrist. So, unless you want to chop the kid's hand off, it's not going anywhere." Maverick said.
Quite a few students were now conflicted with Aizawa's words. "All Might, you don't think like that, too, right? Sure, Ben messed up, but he made up for it. And he even showed us there might be a better way to deal with some villains. That has to count for something, right? He still has to work in it, but once he matures a little, he can still be a hero... Right?" Midoriya asked his idol.
The former Number One sighed at this. "I'm sorry, Young Midoriya. But no. Like Aizawa said, Ben doesn't understand the responsibilities or the principles one should have when accepting the task to become a hero, casting away selfish desires and putting others first, not expecting anything in return and using our powers responsibly, ONLY for the greater good. All of these are concepts that elude him. So unfortunately... I don't believe Ben Tennyson will ever TRULY be a hero." All Might said sadly.
Many of the students finding themselves shocked once again at the harshness of the words of the former Number One. Some felt conflicted and wanted to argue, but what could they say to argue with the words of the former Symbol of Peace?
And, once again, Maverick raised up his bazooka to try and blast the pros, before being stopped by Anemone. "Maverick! Enough with the bazooka, already!" She snapped, finally taking the weapon. She then looked to the crowd. "Well, at the very least, MOST of you seem willing to be open to the idea of second chances and not condemning someone for ONE bad act. That's good. And you pros believe Ben doesn't understand the gravity and responsibilities of being a hero." She said, the groups she mentioned nodding as she mentioned them. "Well, luckily, that's what Ben will learn in the very next adventure. And he'll learn it the HARD way." She told them, sounding like she was dreading that moment, which left the group rather concerned for what they might see as the screen came to life once again.
[1] So, yes. Any time they see the XLR8 transformation, they'll see the one from The Galactic Enforcers, not the more regularly used one. This adds a bit more variety, because at least THREE transformations start with Ben's arm swelling and becoming muscular: Four Arms, Wildmutt and XLR8. Three out of ten transformations that start EXACTLY the same. I can't be the only one who thought that was lame, or at least annoying.
[2] I know I talked about this with someone who left a review on one chapter on AO3, but it was a good while ago, so I don't completely remember, I emptied my inbox, so it's not there anymore and there's no way I can look through ALL of the comments to the story on AO3 to find what we were talking about. So, sorry if what I said here is A BIT inaccurate.
[3] That's a reference to Cyber-RK18's MHA Reacts to RWBY story. Nothing against him at all, but you gotta admit, that was a goofy way of doing what he was trying to do...
[4] Thanks to my friend SliferTheSkyDragonKing for bringing up a lot of points the hosts make in this part.
