We followed Irene into my grandfather's study. My grandfather was reading some paperwork, and he was drinking a glass of scotch. He looked up from his paperwork and stared at me in surprise.

He looked at Irene. "Irene, leave us. Close the door when you leave."

"It really is you. Robert called me early this morning. He led me to believe you and your wife were killed the other day in that nasty business with the terrorists in Washington DC. I was just about to make arrangements to attend your funeral. This is your boy?"

"Yes sir. This is Alex."

My grandfather then asked "Your wife? Is she with you as well?"

I winced when he asked about your mother. It was hard for me to say the next part. "She actually was killed, sir. I need your help. I am in trouble, sir. I had to do some things to rescue my son from the terrorists that were not exactly legal. I will go to prison if anyone finds out I'm alive. My son and I need to disappear. I am going to book a room at the Marriott near Heathrow under the name Leon Steadman. If you could help us, sir. I would appreciate it. I don't want to use my own network to disappear unless I really need to. My son also needs a doctor that can be discreet. His ear was injured in the explosion. You can send the doctor to the hotel."

My grandfather looked at me, "Nonsense, you can just stay here at the estate. I will have my staff prepare a room for you. As for a doctor I can arrange that as well. You remember Doctor Williams we served in WWI together? We grew up together. Your mother and his daughter were the best of friends. You have met him before. I believe he went to see you in the colonies when you were a boy. He lives a couple of estates down on this road. I will have him look you and the boy over. He was very fond of your mother and will be very happy to see you again. Would you like a scotch? You look like you could use one, Boyo."

I was so confused. He usually could not wait to get rid of me when I went to see him. He had never been nice to me before. The last time I had seen him was during your mom and I's second honeymoon. You remember how awful he was don't you, Amanda?"

His mom spoke, "Oh my gosh. He was the coldest most awful man when we saw him during our second honeymoon. He was the real life version of Ebenezer Scrooge. The way he talked to you was like you were a piece of dirt on the bottom of his shoe. I thought you had been exaggerating, Lee. But he was worse than you described him. He was just so awful to you. He just assumed you wanted money and was so annoyed that we had just gone there as a social call and threw us out. I felt so bad for forcing you to take me to meet him."

"Yeah, that is how it usually always was with my grandfather. I expected that reaction again. The man I got was actually very nice and did not call me Jenny's bastard once. That was why I was so confused. Even when I was a teenager, and I had gotten expelled from the Swiss boarding school and went to him for help. He did not put me up in the house. I spent all of fifteen minutes with him. He got me a hotel room until my uncle could come get me. He made that expulsion go away for me and pulled some strings to get me into another boarding school in Germany. Got kicked out of that one too. That's when my uncle put me in military school. But that's another story.

Sorry I was getting sidetracked, I will continue. My grandfather poured me a glass of scotch. My grandfather came over and put his hand on my shoulder and patted it. That was strange because I don't think my grandfather ever touched me or even shook my hand before. Actually I shook hands with him one time when I met him at my parents' funeral.

He came up to me and said, "So you are Jenny's little bastard."

I had no idea who he even was back then. It was not until later when my American grandmother told me who he was. It felt so strange that he was being so nice to me now.

Grandfather looked at me with such sympathy "I am sorry about your wife. It seems like I may have passed the Hamilton curse on to you. I have so much to apologize for when it comes to you. There is no excuse for the way I have treated you. My Jenny would have been most disappointed with me. I will help you with whatever you need. But for now. You both look dreadful. Have you eaten? It is between meal times at the moment. But I will have Irene take you to the kitchen. I am sure Chef will prepare you something. I will have a couple of rooms prepared for you as well."

"Thank you, sir. I am not hungry. But my son usually always is. Also, we only need one room. With everything that we just went through. I want to keep him with me."

My grandfather nodded and pressed an intercom on his desk, "I understand, Boyo. I really do. Irene, can you come back to the study?"

She did and popped her head in the room. "Yes, Jonathon. Would you like me to escort them out?"

The door opened and Irene came in "No, they are staying here. Have the staff prepare the princess room for these two lads. Also take them to the kitchen and have Chef prepare the lads something to eat while the room is prepared."

Irene looked shocked, "Yes, of course. But did you really say the princess room? Are you sure, Jonathon? You never let anyone in that room except to clean it occasionally."

My grandfather nodded "Yes, you heard me correctly. This is my grandson and my great grandson. I think it may be comforting to my grandson to be in his mother's room. Before you say anything, Lee. Irene can be trusted. She can be discreet. I will also need her help in preparing new identities for you two lads. Eat and then rest. You both look like you could use it. Also write down your clothing sizes for Irene. She will arrange for new clothes for the both of you. Let her know anything else you may need for your stay. Now eat and then rest. We will check on both of you just before dinner at seven. If you are up for it, you are welcome to join Irene and me. I will understand if you are not."

I thanked him. Then we followed Irene to the kitchen. You want to take over the story for a little bit, kid. Since the next part involves food?"

Matty smiled at his dad, "Sure dad. I remember not really understanding what was going on. I was just happy to be with you, dad. We went to the kitchen and met Chef. He gave us a cold cut platter. It was so good. The bread and cold cuts tasted so fresh.

I love Chef. I miss him. We should call him and say hi when I get out of the hospital especially if I am still able to talk when the drugs wear off. Actually, I want to talk to everybody, Tony, Sven and Chef. I do really miss them all. It will be awesome to be able to talk to them on the phone instead of just chatting with them on the computer. Maybe we can invite Chef and his wife for the holidays again like we did a couple years ago. Although he and Grandma do not get along. Chef drove Grandma more nuts than Aunt Lillian trying to help her with Christmas dinner."

His mother laughed, "Oh my gosh. Your poor grandmother but that was really funny that year when she had both Chef and Aunt Lillian driving her crazy. I invite all of them every year. Maybe if you keep your voice. You can invite all of them this year for the holidays. I bet they will come to see you, sweet boy. Even if you lose your voice when the drugs wear off. It does not matter. You should still be the one that invites all of them this year."

Notes:

I predict Matty is going to keep his voice. I am not a monster. LOL

As for Lee's American grandmother. Lee's parents died when he was five. The Colonel did not take him until he was seven. I have read so many fanfics that have Lee with his grandmother until she got too sick to take care of him anymore. So I am going with that theory. Even though it is my fanfic and I can do what I want but that makes the most sense to me.

Next chapter: Lee and Matty go to Lee's mother's room.
