Waking up in the Lands Between was one thing, but finding out I was a Soldier of Godrick no less and not some John Elden Ring Tarnish? That was disappointing…on some level. Waking up to a screen that told me the player was downloading his game and updating it for the dlc…that…I did not expect that to greet me when I woke up in a cave.
I at least expected to chart my own course of action and remove myself from this decrepit old cave system, not be john NPC…well, when in rome, ham it up!
"Okay, let's get some of the rust off, see if I still got it. Might as well face Soldier of Godrick for ol 'sake before I actually start my build for the dlc."
The player's voice echoed into the game I was in, signifying the player was now playing the game.
Whelp, better prepare myself.
As I trudged into the arena where the enemy soldier was supposed to run out into inside of being out in the open, I calmly walked into the middle of the battle arena and stabbed my greatsword into the ground and palmed the pummel as I waited for the player's character to reach the arena.
"What the…why's the enemy already out in the open?"
Ah, the player's already reached near the boss fog, not sure what I will expect after the player kills me, but hopefully I can make the player's experience worthwhile…honestly, I'm having more fun with this than I should…
My Attention was soon brought to the boss fog as the player's character walked in through, and what greeted my eyes as the character walked in, was the hero starter class. Ah, good choice, may he bonk the game into oblivion! That, or the player might choose the strength and magic route, which isn't bad.
Then again, the player could always respec, so I don't really know what build the player will dedicate himself to.
As the hero class figure finally finished its entrance animation, I, who had my head down, tilted my head up to look directly at the player's character, "Hail, worthy challenger." I said, my voice being a bit deep and gravely, but echoed all the same in the cave.
"Holy shit! I'm in a cutscene for the tutorial?! bit excessive for any new players!"
As I gradually pulled out my greatsword from the ground to wield it in a proper stance, I continued to speak, "I, Soldier of Godrick, Sir Benard Willem shall be your test of might, Have AT THEE!" I shouted at the end, before charging at the player's character.
"Why the hell did they go that hard for a tutorial boss!"
The player's character, now able to move, charged at me with his axe and shield.
I opened my eyes to find myself right beside a grace, sitting up straight, I was able to bear more of my surroundings to find that I was now at the grace right beside the goblin statue that you needed a key for to enter.
The fight between me and the player was honestly one sided, in the player's favor; I did my best to swing my greatsword, but the player was definitely good on his rolls and parries.
Good to know the player didn't have too much rust on him to hinder him.
Sitting up and picking myself off from the ground, I shook myself off the stiffness I felt, before picking my great sword up with me. I guess I was destined for more, and apparently my death did not mean the end of me in this world.
Walking off towards the elevator, I pulled the nearby lever and waited for the elevator to arrive back down, before getting on it and taking the lift up.
Once I reached the top, I was greeted by the sight of the opened door, to which I found the first step grace, and White Mask Varre himself.
The man took notice of me, but seemed hesitant on speaking with me. I myself chose to stand next to the nearby cliff face where I could overlook the whole area, of which I could see the player's character facing off against the tree sentinel.
Oh, gonna try and get the halberd perhaps? That, or overconfidence.
"Oh come on!"
I was soon treated to the sight of the barbarian looking class getting killed by the boss, before the player's character disappeared into the aether.
"Wait, wait the.."
My attention was then pulled back to the nearby grace as I stood while turned my head to look at the player's character stand up from the grace looking in my direction, all the while I myself had planted my greatsword once more into the ground while palming the pummel with my hands.
"What the hell is this chat? What the hell is Fromsoft cooking!"
Fuck if I know, player, just hope you don't go aggro on me.
"Walk up to him and talk? I mean, he isn't aggroing on me."
The player's character was soon controlled to walk over to me, before the words 'talk' appeared in front of me. The button for the action was pressed, signifying that the player wanted to talk.
I nodded to the barbarian character, "Hail, good sir, that fight you gave me was remarkable, truly, worthy of being titled a Tarnished such as you." I said.
I fully turned towards the character while keeping my hand on the pommel of my greatsword, "As I said before our gentleman's duel, My Name is Sir Benard Willem."
"Huh, perhaps this is an added sidequest if you do the tutorial, chat. Glad I went into it."
Lifting my hand off from the pommel of my sword, I hold out a finger, "If you would, I am in search of a worthy lord to serve, please, take this finger so that I may serve a worthy tarnished such as you. summon me when you need me, if you would."
"Oh, oh shit chat! We don't just get summon spirits, we get this dude, fucking poggers man!"
…and I'm fucking dying of cringe a little after hearing that.
