Someone had sent Tails a lead to his email. It turned out that the second round of their posters ended up working after all. But it was not what they were expecting. As opposed to an email containing details regarding the whereabouts of Shadow, the anonymous sender had instead sent a link to a Broadway theatre's website.
Tails opened up the link.
The background of the webpage at which they arrived was bright red. "WEST SIDE STORY" faded in in black, bold font, and then faded out. Then the word "STARRING" faded in and out of the screen, also in black, bold font. "SHADOW: THE WORLD'S ULTIMATE LIFEFORM" then faded in and out of the screen. And finally, a picture of Shadow himself with his arms crossed appeared but did not fade out.
Sonic stared through the screen at his doppelganger staring back at him, his jaw dropped. Half of him wanted to chuck the laptop off the hotel right then and there. But he knew Tails wouldn't appreciate that.
"Who was this mysterious hedgehog?" he thought to himself. Up until then, the only mutant hedgehogs were himself and Amy. Why would the US government want to create yet another one? And, perhaps more importantly, why the hell would they make him a theatre actor? What did they have up their sleeve? Was Dr. Robotnik lying this whole time? Nothing made any sense.
"What the fuck is going on?" he said.
"Beats me," said Tails, closing and stowing the laptop away in his backpack, "But looks like our next stop is New York. Hopefully, we can get to the bottom of this."
"New York, huh?" said Sonic, a wry smirk on his face, "Let's go."
And with that, the two jumped in the airplane, Tails fired up the engine, and the dynamic duo were on their merry way.
