I felt horrible for a few days, and Disc wouldn't stop apologizing to me. He even let me stay at his house until I'd fully recovered, which was a very sweet and unnecessary action. But if I tried to go off on my own feeling as terrible as I did, I wouldn't have made it far before fainting.
I thanked him before heading out, and tried to hand him back his map after apologizing heavily. He brushed it as nothing and told me I could keep it.
I couldn't help but feel bad, but I wasn't really myself that day.
So I was finally able to head to the Uni-Tree, and I was excited! While I was recovering, I was able to ask Disc a few questions about the Wattanists, and he answered the best he could. But I had enough information I needed, thanks to him.
After a few days, I'd finally made it to the Uni-Tree. The glow of the bulb, and the Connectar, was brilliance beyond description. It truly captivated me.
And then I saw the Wattanist I'd spent so long looking for.
She was looking at the roots of the tree, gently watering one of the flowers near it. I slowly approached her, feeling a bit shy and uncertain. She rose to her feet and spotted me then and there.
"Oh, hello. Have you come to see the Uni-Tree? I don't think I've seen you around before."
I felt my heartbeat spike and I stuttered for words. Her voice was soothing, and the fact she was quite beautiful was the cherry on top the icing. I quickly scribbled down my name and showed it to her.
"Zokket? What a nice name. It reminds me of mine." Her laugh sounded like heaven. "My name is Cozette, and I'm the Wattanist currently in charge of caring for the Uni-Tree. Is there something you need?"
"I-I..." I swallowed my feelings and was finally able to talk like a normal person. "I want to become your apprentice!" I bowed.
"Oh, that's wonderful. I was looking for someone willing, and it seems like you're right in time."
"R-really?"
She nodded. "The training might take a while because-"
"Oh, I actually have been studying Concordia for years!" I grabbed a bunch of papers from my bag and shoved them at her. "But anyways, I can't take too long because my father is really sick and I need help for him as soon as possible!"
"O-oh! I wasn't expecting that reaction."
She looked at the papers I shoved at her. The thing was, I actually had no clue what I handed her. I was in a bit of a frenzy at the moment, and I wanted help quickly. I spent too long getting to her already.
"You were running studies on a lot of Concordia, weren't you?"
I nodded.
"Interesting. You really put a lot into this. I hate to inform you like this, but some of your information is either incorrect or outdated."
My heart shattered, and I nearly fainted. My information was wrong? It couldn't be true! She calmly explained that she would teach me, and help me find the cure for my father. I must have accidentally handed her one of the pages with that information on it.
"Zokket, I can see you're frustrated. You need to calm yourself unless you want that clouding your mind. And if your mind is foggy, you cannot learn." She handed the papers back.
"I...got information wrong? But I spent my life in these studies."
"I can tell you have a passion for learning, which is why I'll gladly take you as an apprentice. I recall seeing some of this information in older textbooks that I've read before. Thankfully, it's only small fractions of your information that's false. Being this agitated over such a small matter hardly seems fit."
I reluctantly agreed that she was right, and she went back to her flower. After a minute, she looked to me and motioned for me to come over as well. I did as she said and looked to the flower.
"You may think this sprout needs water, but Concordia is grown from something else. Do you know what it is?"
"Connectar?"
She nodded. "Correct. However, Connectar can also be corrupted if it's in the wrong hands." She handed me a little watering can. "Here. Care to give the plant some fresh Connectar?"
I took it from her and examined it. I could feel...something coming from it, but I wasn't sure what. I crouched down and gently tipped some Connectar to the flower.
"I can tell it really appreciated that. A kind soul like you can become a Wattanist in little time, with your knowledge and sweetness. Connectar also helps connect us to the land. Soon, you may even be able to hear the Uni-Tree, as I do."
"You can hear it? As in, it speaks to you?"
"Yes. Only Wattanists have this ability, however. And so many have gone without hearing the tree. Unfortunately, if you cannot hear the tree, that means you do not have the skill to become a Wattanist. Are you willing to risk this?"
"Yes," I said honestly. I needed any help I could get to help father.
"Perfect. Your training starts tomorrow. I'll meet you here, at the Uni-Tree. Come prepared."
